speak that you do [25:45] have three [25:47] minutes the first person is Rod [25:52] Hubert hello everybody I haven't been [25:54] here in about 3 months and I was here in [25:57] regards to the Paving this and that and [26:01] the only one that thought to help me was [26:03] this young [26:04] man and uh what they did do then is [26:07] patched in front of my house I I don't [26:09] want my street done but like I'm [26:12] concerned about all of wood lawn you [26:14] know so you know I see that they started [26:18] it but uh we got to get going with more [26:20] stuff it's too you know we can't sit [26:24] here and discuss things and not have [26:26] anything resolved you know you know it [26:29] takes time and money I know that but uh [26:32] got to get with it but I hopefully we're [26:34] on the right thing here but uh I'm [26:38] grateful I just you know I'm just an [26:41] ordinary taxpayer and our taxes that we pay pay your salaries [26:49] so maybe everyone can take a task on and [26:53] help the city better than we're doing we [26:56] sit here uh two Mondays a month and [27:00] really more should be done I'm a retiree [27:03] from the city and I know what goes on [27:05] and stuff but I hope things are going in [27:08] the right [27:09] direction and uh that's all I wanted to [27:12] say thank you very much [27:15] huh thank [27:19] you um Reverend H Reverend Jim [27:26] coming Madam president City council [27:28] members as you may recall when arpa [27:31] funding became available we had [27:33] petitioned for a small pretty small [27:36] share of that funding uh to create a [27:39] basketball Park uh at court Park uh in a [27:43] piece of land that is bordered by Pearl [27:46] Street Main and Wing um and uh [27:51] we I'm not necessarily here to talk [27:54] about that per se but really to talk [27:56] about the fact that that the motivation [27:59] behind that request came from the people [28:01] in our community it wasn't uh Pastor Jim [28:05] coming up with something out of his [28:07] robes uh but it was it was really came [28:10] from uh discussions that I had with the [28:13] young people in our neighborhood uh and [28:16] it was also a concern for their safety [28:19] as well because uh as I've mentioned uh [28:22] a few times um Pearl Street is a place [28:26] where cars whip uh they really they go [28:28] through very quickly uh and you know a a [28:32] Mis bounced ball and somebody running [28:34] after it without kind of thinking and [28:37] then tragedy occurs so you know we want [28:40] my main concern is the safety of the [28:42] Youth of our community and an [28:45] opportunity for those youth uh to be [28:47] able to do those things that the arpa [28:49] funds were created for to pre to provide [28:51] place of recreation physical activity uh [28:54] and health um so with that I brought [28:58] along with me uh a young man uh dead nut [29:01] Singh who lives in the neighborhood uh [29:03] dnut um he's going to have all your jobs [29:06] one day uh he is the sharpest young man [29:09] I have ever met and that includes myself [29:13] uh I'm not young anymore but uh he's super sharp uh super intelligent [29:18] and and a beautiful representative of [29:20] his community so I'd like you to please [29:23] listen to him uh this evening and I [29:26] promise I did not give him words [29:28] uh so thank you thank [29:32] you dut [29:39] sing good night city um city councils [29:43] and Madam [29:45] president my name is dead n Singh and [29:48] today I came here to talk [29:50] about my [29:52] neighborhood and we have a green space [29:55] around our neighborhood and I was [29:58] wondering if we can invest to get the [30:01] green space all around because we want a [30:04] basketball court or a playground over [30:08] there and I H I have signatures from [30:11] people around the neighborhood even our [30:13] little youths from all around the whole [30:17] neighborhood even the other Street [30:19] people wanted it so I'll want I have a [30:23] signature here to give y so if y'all [30:26] want it y can have [30:35] this a big day for [30:37] me you're doing a great [30:43] job is there more you'd like to tell us [30:45] no ma'am okay well thank you very much [30:48] for coming and thank you for bringing [30:49] the signatures you're welcome thank you [30:52] you're [30:56] welcome I have no one else signs up to [30:59] speak so I declare the public comment of [31:02] City business [31:03] closed this time any miscellanous [31:06] business of the [31:09] council Miss [31:12] Patrick thank you madam president just [31:15] have a few announcements here [31:21] um sorry um I wanted to announce that [31:23] there's going to be an art night connty [31:26] the return of art night I should say on [31:28] uh September 20th from 5: to 8:30 and [31:32] that's going to be um over uh all around [31:35] downtown uh several different locations [31:38] celebrating um some wonderful artists [31:40] that we have here in SKC so I hope folks [31:42] will get out for that I also wanted to [31:44] um bring to attention um I think all of [31:47] us probably receiv received this but the [31:49] New York State Public Service Commission [31:51] is having um public hearings around the [31:54] state uh between September 17th and 25th [31:58] the closest one for us is indeed [32:01] September 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the [32:03] Albany public library on Washington [32:05] Avenue in Albany and that public hearing [32:08] is in relation to the fact that National [32:10] Grid is going to be raising its rates um [32:13] somewhat significantly um so i' uh you [32:17] know wanted to bring that to people's [32:18] attention and also ask them to uh maybe [32:20] Google and find out more about what's [32:23] going to be happening um effective April [32:25] 1st [32:26] 2025 and then finally um our SKC fire [32:30] department um has sent out a couple of [32:33] um flyers and we probably could get some [32:35] of these uh posted well they actually [32:38] are posted on social media uh one is [32:40] about 911 and when to call 911 and I'm [32:44] just going to quickly uh go through that [32:46] which is when you smell smoke or see a [32:48] fire when you witness or are the victim [32:50] of a crime when you witness or are [32:53] involved in a serious accident uh when [32:55] there's an emergency illness or a [32:57] suspected poisoning when a child senior [33:00] citizen or handicapped person is lost [33:03] confused frightened or needs special [33:05] assistance these are those are [33:07] potentially dangerous situations and the [33:10] fire department would really like you to [33:11] call 911 in those situations um and then [33:15] my last thing is just that we all know [33:17] that there's more and more um ebikes and [33:19] E Scooters out on the street and uh we [33:23] really you know there's some safety [33:25] precautions regarding the the especially [33:28] the batteries that are part of uh those [33:31] um those vehicles um so really want [33:34] folks that have these kinds of of [33:37] vehicles to understand uh the safety [33:39] regulations around the lithium batteries [33:41] to make sure that if they're charging [33:43] the battery that they're charging the [33:45] battery with the appropriate uh charger [33:47] that came with the battery if they have [33:49] to replace the battery that they're [33:50] replacing it with the same kind of [33:52] battery um there's all sorts of things [33:54] that are part of the manufacturer's [33:55] guidelines so I just would really asked [33:58] folks to uh pay attention to all of [34:00] those um depending on which vehicle you [34:04] have because uh more and more we're [34:06] hearing about various fires that are [34:08] being caused by these by these uh [34:10] Vehicles if the safety precautions are [34:12] not being uh being adhered to and that's [34:16] it others Mr [34:19] [Music] [34:20] Farley thank you mad president first of [34:22] all I want to say thank you for everyone [34:23] that came out to speak tonight [34:25] especially young treat uh treat when you [34:26] see young people com to to talk to us [34:28] helps us kind of remind of of of our why are we doing things that we're doing [34:33] so I really greatly appreciate that um [34:36] my thing I kind of want to just talk [34:38] about really fast is just you know I [34:40] know people have heard one way or [34:42] another seen the news and just know that [34:44] our community is in deep mourning right [34:46] now um through the loss of life of of [34:49] four young people and other people um [34:52] and in in different accidents and things [34:53] have just been happening so um I just [34:55] want to remind everyone that this is a [34:57] Time time for us to reflect um to be [35:00] kind to one another to be patient to one [35:02] another and extend each other the the grace that is needed um because [35:06] these things happen and the Ripple [35:08] effects go deep um and and and and [35:11] spread reach far beyond what we [35:12] sometimes think about from not just the [35:14] families and friends but even to the [35:15] First Responders who um have to respond [35:18] to these things and then have the [35:19] daunting task of notifying families that [35:22] people have passed away so um just that [35:25] was just particularly sing in my mind [35:28] today so I just wanted to share that [35:30] with everyone to just remind that people [35:31] are in mourning and and and you know [35:34] just to be extra kind and and and [35:36] mindful in our day-to-day activities [35:39] that's [35:40] it thank you Mr M thank [35:45] you thank you I would just um like to um [35:48] Express or um on behalf of this connect [35:51] Caribbean Day committee to express our [35:53] thanks to the mayor and his staff and [35:56] also the um police Department the fire [35:59] department and the sheriff department [36:01] and the auxiliary U department for the [36:04] tremendous support they have uh placed [36:06] in us to make sure that we have a [36:08] wonderful and Grand successful um event [36:11] last Saturday in Central Park music [36:13] Heaven once again it's incident free so [36:16] the committee is so proud of what [36:17] happened there and all the attendance [36:19] despite the rain there were thousands of [36:21] people there in attendance and also a [36:23] special shout out to our Park director [36:26] Bill M and his staff for working um [36:29] throughout the day into the evening to [36:31] support us and to make sure that we have [36:34] everything available to us to make sure [36:36] that the event was successful so once [36:39] again so Bill Masa and his entire park [36:41] staff and beyond that I think staff from [36:44] other department thank you and thank you [36:46] to everyone to help us to make that [36:48] event a grand success 2024 thank you [36:51] thank [36:52] you yes [36:56] um um I'd like to thank everyone that [36:58] came out tonight to speak and to [37:09] Rain didn't stop any of it I I was [37:11] amazed to see The Umbrellas come out [37:13] like the rain started people like I'm [37:14] not going anywhere I'm just going to put [37:15] my umbrella up and I just have to also [37:17] add to what Mr mud said about the staff [37:21] and just the outstanding job that they [37:22] did and everything went really well at [37:24] all events I made I made a couple of [37:26] them got the dance at one to so it was [37:29] great um in terms of upcoming events I [37:32] just wanted to not that there to save [37:34] the date for October 12th 2024 where [37:36] there'll be a tennis and pickle ball [37:38] fundraiser to uh support disconnected um [37:42] cancer firefighters no skincity [37:44] firefighters Cancer [37:46] Foundation and that'll be held in [37:48] Central [37:49] Park Mr um Farley did speak to the fact [37:53] that we there was a tragic accident [37:55] which claimed four very young lives [37:58] and so may you may may know this or may [38:01] not know this one of those young people [38:02] actually was a city employee so our [38:05] condolences to all of them and his [38:07] father actually still works here so you [38:09] know the city has been impacted by this [38:11] the the loss of this young man as well [38:13] so just asking to keep those families [38:16] and your thoughts and um and give them [38:19] your condolences and if you see them or you know if you attend any of the [38:23] services there's still one other service [38:25] to be held so um and my personal [38:28] condolences to the family it was very [38:30] tragic accident um that happened over um [38:33] well last weekend so at this time I [38:36] would just ask for a motion to [38:39] adjourn all right move by Mr Moon second [38:42] by
