[0:27] Yeah. And Mississippi. That's interesting. [0:34] » I was going to say, how many people are they serve? [0:35] » Interesting. There are three states that states that I'm not. They were talking [0:40] about meals on wheels for like seniors are two of them. [0:44] » I mean, there's there's [6:58] Good evening everyone. Like to call to order the Apex and Parks Recreation [7:02] Advisory Board meeting for January 28th, 2026. [7:07] We'll always start with a moment of invocation. [7:19] Thank you all. Next, the pledge of allegiance. [7:25] » I pledge allegiance to the flag of United States of America and to the [7:30] republic for it stands one nation indivisible [7:36] and justice for all. [7:41] As always, we receive the meeting minutes to review and ahead of the [7:44] meeting. Um there aren't any um objections, corrections, or amendments [7:50] to those meeting minutes from December 10th. I just need a motion to approve [7:54] those meeting minutes. >> Motion to approve. [7:58] » It's been [clears throat] motioned and properly second. All in favor? [8:02] » Any oppose? Motion carried. Uh first up, executive report and projects program [8:09] report. So, we'll start with the the big item [8:13] for tonight on our agenda. Jamila Godfrey, if you want to step up to the [8:17] to the mic. So, come >> on down. [8:19] » Jamila is our new assistant director over programs. So, she is taking over [8:24] the role for David Wood who's retiring as of Friday. So, I'll let Tamila kind [8:31] of give you >> I'll be quick. I won't read the 30 [8:33] minute dissertation that I have prepared for you all. [laughter] [8:38] Now, I'm happy to be here. My name is Jamaala Godfrey and I'm coming from [8:41] Virginia Beach uh Department of Parks and Recreation where I've been for the [8:44] past nine years. Prior to that, I was with the YMCA for about eight years. [8:49] Also in Southampton Roads area of Virginia. So, I'm very happy to be here. [8:54] It just all worked out. I've always wanted to be in this area since my [8:57] brother moved here 10 years ago. And I saw the position and it was just like a [9:02] dream come true. And then everything just kind of fell into place. And I'm a [9:05] resident as of last Saturday. I turned it around quickly. How how we did it, I [9:10] still don't know. From December to now and now I live here and I moved and it's [9:14] just wonderful. But I'm happy to be here, happy to serve, happy to work with [9:19] all of you. So looking forward to it. >> Very well. [9:22] » 757. >> 757. What do you know about that? [9:26] » My family is there. So my brother and sister lives there. Uh my mom lived [9:30] there, too, >> but she just recently relocated to [9:32] Kansas with my youngest. >> Wow. [9:34] » But yeah, so spent a number of days at the Virginia Beach Sportslex. Yes, [9:38] absolutely. >> There. Um, so definitely know exactly. [9:41] » We stopped running the Sports Plex and contracted that out. So, yeah. [9:46] [laughter] But yes, happy to be here and happy to [9:48] work with you all. So, >> I do. [9:50] » Thank you. Welcome. >> Thank you. Thanks. [9:53] » Thank you. >> So, we're really excited to have her. [9:56] Um, she brings a lot of experience in the field of parks. I mean, currently, [10:01] she didn't tell you this, but she watched over seven community centers [10:04] over in Virginia Beach. I mean it's a very large organization 300 plus uh [10:11] employees. Is that right? >> So um has that experience with a very [10:16] large organization so to help us continue to move forward. Um I think [10:21] she's going to be a great addition. So thank you. Uh we'll talk about winter [10:26] weather. That's really the only other thing that I'll I'll have for you [10:30] tonight. Apparently, we could get upwards of potentially 18 inches is the [10:36] last thing I saw. >> I thought I was tripping. [10:38] » That was >> Come [laughter] on. [10:40] » I thought I saw that wrong. >> That was what they said last week, too. [10:43] » Yeah. >> And then it changed drastically, which [10:46] North Carolina does. So, um we've got a storm meeting tomorrow uh to prepare for [10:52] the worst. And then we'll see where it lands because [10:55] » it could get pushed out further east, which wouldn't be as bad on us. And if [11:00] it gets pushed out further west, we may get more rain. I don't know. So, we'll [11:04] see how it turns out. But, um, if we try to update our website as quickly [11:11] as possible. Um, I don't know how many of you are tied into that, but from our [11:16] social media feeds, but um, if you ever want to check, it's on the the web page. [11:20] We also have a Facebook page as well as the Instagram page. So, um, other than [11:26] that, that's all I really have at this point. Definitely a good call last [11:29] Saturday because I know we had games last Saturday. Yes, I did some of them. [11:33] Right. And the neighboring uh town said no. They cancelled. They canceled. They [11:38] cancelled. Yeah. And so >> before the storm even started. [11:41] » Yeah. Before the storm even started. Then you know Saturday kind of breeze [11:44] all was just cold, right? It was just cold. [11:46] » Which is cold. So no weather, but definitely a good call um last Saturday. [11:50] And then if if you do receive questions about why we closed parks yesterday, um [11:55] because we came in for uh between 12 and 5 yesterday, but we closed the parks and [12:00] kept them closed because we have a lot of shaded areas in the parks and I was [12:05] concerned about just people going into the parking lots, somebody potentially [12:09] getting injured on somebody. So, we decided to keep those closed and uh [12:13] depending on what this does, we'll see how we kind of manage that, too. So, [12:20] That's all I got. That's it. What? >> Next up, chairman's report. Nothing from [12:25] me. Looking around for public comment. No one on on that. Old business. [12:33] New business. Need a motion to adjurnn. [12:37] » Make a motion. [laughter] >> Second. [12:40] » Motion and properly second. All in favor? [12:43] » Anyone oppose? [laughter] >> I feel like the record was 604. So, we [12:48] we almost got the record, but we'll close. [12:51] » Did everybody Did y'all make a full motion? I'm sorry. I was not going to [12:53] laugh before. >> Okay, that's all right. We'll pretend we [12:55] didn't hear it. >> I made a motion. [12:58] » I second. >> Okay. So, I will offer this since we're [13:03] done now. Um, in the future, if there's nothing on the agenda, I've been told [13:08] that we can cancel. So, um, that's what we'll probably do in the future. [13:13] » I did want y'all to meet Jimmy. >> Yeah, definitely. But I knew this was [13:17] going to be real quick. >> And it's always just in case there's [13:19] public comment, you know, just >> you just never know. [13:21] » And then I mean, yeah. >> So there. [13:25] » Have a wonderful night. >> Thanks. [13:26] » Good to see everybody. Thank you everybody.
