[0:05] the vanity county assessor's office is required by idaho code to find the full [0:09] market value of all taxable property each year assessment notices are [0:13] required to be in the mail by the first monday in june sometimes property owners [0:18] disagree with the assessed value when they receive their notice [0:23] hello there hello how are you good i just received my property [0:28] assessment notice in the mail and it has some inaccuracies [0:32] this says i have a two-car garage but i only have a driveway [0:36] what can i do so i understand your frustrations and [0:40] i know you are and i and i know that there are so many parcels to review [0:44] and so sometimes there are some inaccuracies [0:48] you are welcome to go across the street to the assessor's office and speak with [0:52] an appraiser they'll review the information that you have along with [0:56] your assessment notice and see if there are any discrepancies the assessor's [1:00] office is across the street at 130 north sixth avenue and you can just go ahead [1:07] and walk in there and speak with an appraiser the appraiser may ask for [1:10] supporting documents and possibly an on-site inspection if you provide [1:14] compelling and valid information to the appraiser it may result in an adjusted [1:19] value if you're unable to reach an agreement with your appraiser you can [1:23] appeal your property assessment to the board of equalization [1:28] to appeal your assessment you'll need an assessment appeal form you can pick up a [1:32] copy of the appeal form at the courthouse conveniently located just [1:36] inside the ada entrance on north sixth avenue [1:40] or if you prefer you can find these online by visiting bennettcounty.us [1:45] and clicking on the commissioners page at the top of the page you'll find a [1:49] link to the assessed value appeal form which you can download and print at home [1:54] be sure to pick up the right form we have one form for residential commercial [1:59] and industrial properties and another form for agriculture properties [2:04] if you need help completing the appeal form you can call the commissioner's [2:08] office at 208-236-7496 [2:12] or the assessor's office at 208-236-7498 [2:17] when you submit your appeal form you'll need to attach a copy of your assessment [2:22] notice and any supporting documents such as your current appraisal [2:26] be sure to submit your appeal by the due date the fourth monday in june by 5 pm [2:32] you can find the appeals form due date in the upper right corner of your [2:36] assessment notice appeals received after that date will not be considered there [2:41] are five ways you can submit your appeal form you can fax it to us [2:46] or email it or mail it [2:51] make sure it's postmarked by the due date indicated on your assessment notice [2:55] you can also leave it in the drop box outside the courthouse on center street [3:01] or you can submit it in person at the commissioner's office room 101 in the [3:06] courthouse thank you now that you've submitted your [3:10] completed appeal form and the supporting documents i can go ahead and schedule a [3:14] hearing what's the hearing for the hearing is your chance to present to the [3:18] board of equalization they'll make a final decision after hearing from you [3:23] and an appraiser from the assessor's office [3:27] appeal hearings are held between the fourth monday of june and the second [3:31] monday of july this is an opportunity to dispute the value of your property not [3:37] your property taxes appeal hearings are held in the commissioner's chambers in [3:41] the bannock county courthouse you will have three minutes to present your side [3:46] be sure to speak directly to the board members and not the assessor after [3:51] you're finished the appraiser will have three minutes to present their side [3:55] once they are finished you will have an additional two minutes to make any final [3:59] comments the board will discuss the information [4:02] presented and make a motion to accept or deny your appeal [4:06] a notice of action will be mailed to you within 10 days after the last day of [4:11] scheduled hearings if you are unhappy with the board's [4:14] decision you have 30 days from the date of the notice of action to appeal to the [4:19] state board of tax appeals or to the sixth district court [4:23] we hope this information has been helpful to you for questions regarding [4:26] the appeals process you can call the commissioner's office at 208-236-7496
