we have a new handicapped accessible
[11:46] door we have a new handicapped bathroom
it's it's lovely you should check it out
[11:52] and we also started this year with
support from the library and the library
[11:57] foundation the Dolly Parton Imagination
Library where we're providing free books
[12:04] to children from birth through age when
they turn five they age out so for five
[12:10] years though they get free a free book
every month in the mail and we are at
[12:15] 400 children registered for that program
now so that's going really well we're
[12:20] also working with the city by adopting
the Eco Park as a twice a year project
[12:28] to go clean it up and we eat and rake
leaves and find litter and things like
[12:33] that and we just raked wait Park this
weekend so thank you for letting us be
[12:40] involved in this community and giving us
your support appreciate it thank you
[12:49] before I read the letters here that were
submitted as part of the nominating
[12:56] process I do want to take a moment and
recognize I think some key people from
[13:01] our community that I think can probably
thank Walt for their for his leadership
[13:07] and his impact with former mayor
Taylor's here thank you sir for being
[13:11] here appreciate it
former city councilors Clint Coleman is
[13:17] here rich Ayers who spoke thank you rich
and Robert bitter is here former city
[13:23] manager Greg Ellis is here as well
so thank you all for coming in in
[13:28] helping us recognize Walt and all that
he has helped the city accomplish the
[13:33] first letter that was submitted from
former city councilor rich Ayers it says
[13:40] this brief letter is in support of mr.
Walt Daniels for hometown hero award
[13:45] there are a lot of words that one can
use to describe mr. Walt Daniels
[13:48] gentlemen volunteer extraordinaire
community supporter thoughtful
[13:53] considerate contributor tireless friend
statesman respectful and many more
[14:01] but there's one descriptive word that
sums up mr. Daniels life in Camby and
[14:05] that's leadership well I could never
begin to describe the total impact mr.
[14:09] Daniels has had on this on his community
I can point out a few things I have
[14:14] first-hand knowledge of for at least
three decades he had been a tireless
[14:17] leader and participant in the Camby
Kiwanis Club kmb City Council came
[14:22] Utility Board can't be transit board can
be city parks advocate supporter of the
[14:26] can be public library supporter of can
be public's will schools and the list
[14:31] goes on in my 20-plus years of working
and living in Camby I can think of no
[14:36] one that has contributed more to this
community and has and has asked for
[14:40] nothing in return but at least for me he
has earned more respect for his humanity
[14:45] and leadership than anyone I can think
of in can be truly while Daniels is my
[14:50] hometown hero debated by rich Ayers from
John draw this letter is in support of
[14:57] the nomination of Walt Daniels for the
home Steve Candy's hometown hero award
[15:02] when the qualifications for the award
are considered community involvement
[15:06] community leadership and noteworthy
citizen actions
[15:10] it seems the award was created
specifically to recognize Walt Daniels
[15:13] Daniels as he ticks all of those boxes
not once but countless times over
[15:19] decades of significant contributions to
the community of Camby Walt Daniels is a
[15:24] very good example of the story sorry of
the sort of person every community needs
[15:30] to thrive humble vigilant principled
hard-working and always willing to give
[15:36] of his time and resources for the good
of the community without regard to
[15:41] personal cost or personal gain I have
seen Walt in action in city council
[15:46] meetings urban renewal meetings and in
the in in the behind the scenes of
[15:51] helping with the annual Kiwanis toy and
food bastard food basket distribution
[15:55] his focus has always been that of what
is in the best interest
[16:00] Camby his accents have always been
performed with humility without seeking
[16:05] any attention or congratulations for his
contributions which to me is an
[16:09] important characteristic of a hero and
so it is with some irony that I
[16:13] encourage the city of can't be to step
up with a long overdue recognition of
[16:17] his good works and that's from John drop
from Dawn smiie Becca I highly recommend
[16:25] that you consider while danya's for the
hometown hero award for his unselfish
[16:29] contribution for the betterment of our
city justification for this award
[16:35] walt Daniels served as a member of the
Camby City Council for 25 years from
[16:40] 1987 to 2012 he is now a member of the
city Camby area transit Advisory
[16:45] Committee and presently is chairperson
of that committee I am sure that Walt
[16:51] has given more of his time to Cammy than
the majority of citizens of Camby in
[16:55] closing I'm hopeful that the city of
Camby knows what an asset Walt Daniels
[16:59] was and instill his two Camby he is very
deserving of a hometown hero award
[17:09] so it is with my honor to present the
hometown hero award to Walt Daniels in
[17:16] recognition of your outstanding
community involvement in community
[17:19] leadership as demonstrated over several
decades of volunteer work and several
[17:25] local organizations in for your 25 years
on the City Council for this and all you
[17:30] have contributed as has resulted in
positive benefits to the community and
[17:35] the improved welfare of the citizens of
the city of Camby with sincere thanks
[17:39] and appreciation from a most grateful
and appreciative community thank you all

[18:19] this is really a surprise I'm ready for
words I had no idea the reason why I
[18:31] came tonight was it last time I wanted
to watch the meeting when I came time to
[18:36] vote

for all of us
[18:49] just because you finish the term of
office doesn't mean you should just out
[18:55] in the woods use those talents that you
have developed in skills and given back
[19:00] to the city 25 years on the council
what's real rewarded I thought it was
[19:07] time to step down and after we had gone
through systematic planning so I
[19:13] challenged all it was you who have been
on the council before or anticipate that
[19:18] they're willing to step forward and take
that leadership rule I never dreamed of
[19:25] giving award for my satisfaction was
giving my talent to the community and
[19:32] this is what it appreciate B turnout and
thank you very much it's quite an honor

so here's the plaque that is hanging up
[19:52] in City Hall not seeing it you don't
notice that everyone else on this
[19:58] village has one space Walt has to
because all of you all of you

two quick comments first one is having
[22:45] myself involved in the council now and
in many of us up here can attest you and
[22:50] I think those of us that have served in
council roles know that we aren't able
[22:57] to do what we are what we do without the
love and support of our significant
[23:02] others and family members and so

does
[23:15] you and the rest of the family are a big
contributor to this recognition and and
[23:22] what can be is because of Walt's
involvement so thank you for that we

a little bit longer you're more than

left and right and there was a lot

my boys trick-or-treat bags and Mallory
[26:09] was out there
Quinn's coffee shop slinging candy as

mr. mayor in the interest of getting to

you very much as you know we met with
[28:05] the city and the union met over a series
of several months to bargain contract
[28:10] terms and conditions for a new contract
that would be effective July 1st 2017
[28:15] and through June 30th of 2020 we have
come to an agreement the union has
[28:22] signed off and so the contract is in
front of you for approval tonight from
[28:26] the council there is one change I wanted
to point out it's a it's a housekeeping
[28:31] item really
we realized this week that the articles
[28:38] were renumber din the contract and we
inadvertently missed reference and it
[28:44] was an article 17 it references another
article and we had it incorrectly
[28:48] numbered so we made that change the
union's aware of that change and the
[28:52] contract that you have in front of you
has that change in it the contract that
[28:57] I have yes that I'll be signing this
evening yes okay and in the union is
[29:02] signed off on and on the correction and
we're good to go
[29:06] yes okay any significant pieces in the
contract that we should discuss or make
[29:13] aware the biggest change is a change of
a health care provider and a slightly
[29:19] different health plan which will be
phasing in over the three-year term of
[29:21] the contract any questions for staff or
clarifications anything that we their
[29:30] input Mary I think you can point out
that we've had several meetings go over
[29:36] this yes thank you so it's not just
something we've seen for a few minutes

Amanda we started this process how long
[29:49] ago late in the spring so yeah so late
spring the the contract comes up every
[29:54] two three three years so it was that

I think two or three exec session
[30:13] meetings as a council to discuss one
what we wanted to try to achieve in
[30:18] strategy pieces and then follow-up
meetings after that to discuss
[30:23] I think our initial count all right
Mitchell offers and then counteroffers
[30:28] back and then I think coming to a
conclusion and I well well written and
[30:35] well put together contract so
so this is not yeah counsel progress
[30:39] point this is not something that just
occurred in the last two weeks this has
[30:43] been a long process to get to this point
and I think both sides equally on our
[30:52] mutual footing I think based on the you
know contract you have in front of us so
