the town of cedarberg is known for many
[0:05] things it's a great place to live in
raise a family there are many historical
[0:10] sites and buildings including the last
covered bridge in the state of
[0:15] Wisconsin among the historical buildings
is Turn Hall which is listed on the
[0:20] national register of historic
[0:25] places despite its rich and varied
history cedarberg Turn Hall had not been
[0:30] actively used for years The cedarberg
Landmark preservation Society purchased
[0:35] the
building there was a time where the turn
[0:39] hle was a discrepant fallen down
building the roof was in the center of
[0:43] the building the walls were crumbling
and we thought it be a good project for
[0:46] us to undertake to reconstruct we raised
some money locally and got a small Grant
[0:52] from the state of Wisconsin hisorical
Society to fund the necessary building
[0:57] costs and materials and this is
completed about I'd say about 35 years
[1:02] ago and at that time we then rented the
building to David Eline who used it as a
[1:08] race museum for his antique race
[1:12] cars there came a time about 3 or four
years ago where David Eline uh decided
[1:17] to dispose of his vehicles and close the
museum and the building was vacant for a
[1:21] period of time and we did a substantial
amount of research and effort to
[1:25] determine whether we want to sell the
building or release the building at the
[1:29] same time hanky and Associates a local
creative strategic marketing firm was in
[1:34] search of a new office site with a more
open
[1:38] concept the challenges in renovating the
Turn Hall were significant the building
[1:44] had no Plumbing no septic no electrical
of which to speak and had never been
[1:49] used as office
space despite the obstacles hanky
[1:55] understood the value and the cool factor
of rehabing a national recognized
[2:00] historical building the irony is that
the Craftsman and Heritage of a landmark
[2:05] would come together with the latest
technological advancements town of
[2:10] cedarberg officials worked well with the
hankes through the many steps necessary
[2:14] to make this dream a reality town of
cedarberg and the hanky Associates uh
[2:19] went through a Cooperative effort
actually uh we did some minor things
[2:24] like uh allow parking in a park parking
lot which was across the street also
[2:29] helped with the uh crosswalk across a
busy street and reduce the speed limit
[2:34] but more importantly we worked as
partners to uh accomplish a goal the
[2:38] town is very business friendly and we do
what we can and uh if uh changes need to
[2:44] be made if things need to be
accomplished uh on a Cooperative nature
[2:48] you that's what we're about we wanted a
place to build a place create a place an
[2:53] atmosphere that was an open creative
collaborative uh area a place that could
[2:59] really Foster ideas because great ideas
come from everywhere and
[3:06] everybody the result of this vision is a
bright new chapter for a historical
[3:11] landmark it is a showpiece for the
community and demonstrates what can be
[3:16] accomplished when the vision of private
Enterprise and a progressive local
[3:20] government like the town of cedarberg
combin talents and work ethic and we're
[3:25] very pleased with this current use
because it's a an Adaptive use that has
[3:29] kept the building in essentially the
same condition as it was and yet made it
[3:33] useful for a modern purpose we couldn't
have made it happen without many people
[3:38] uh the town of cedarberg um The Landmark
preservation Society everybody worked
[3:43] together to make this happen yeah town
of cedarberg is not only historical and
[3:47] we have some very unique things but
we're also accessible it's important we
[3:51] think to preserve and restore all the
buildings in the area because it's part
[3:54] of our heritage and it's something that
makes cedarberg special it's something
[3:58] that puts cedarberg above all the other
communities in the area town of
[4:02] cedarberg officials have the experience
willingness and knowhow to help other
[4:07] entrepreneurs with vision and a chance
to preserve history while making the
[4:11] future richer for generations to come
it's an opportunity to make history and
[4:17] it could be yours
