outlined in the memo, we're asking
[0:43] council to approve change order number
one for the Compton Street resurfacing
[0:47] project in the amount of $59,270.
During curb removal, the contractor
[0:53] discovered that the existing asphalt is
significantly thinner than anticipated.
[0:57] nor engineer Aman Marsh determined that
the planned inch and a half overlay
[1:01] would not provide enough structural
support and could lead to premature
[1:04] failure. Um, our engineer recommends
adding a 2-in asphalt base layer beneath
[1:09] the planned inch and a half surface
layer. This increases the total contract
[1:13] from $359,731
to $419,1
[1:19] with no additional contract days. Uh,
staff recommends approval of the change
[1:23] order to ensure the long-term durability
of the road. We'll be happy to answer
[1:27] any questions if you have them. And also
a side note, I have reached out to MDOT.
[1:31] Uh they will approve this. So it won't
affect our grant. The grant dollars
[1:35] coming in. Um so we have that approved.

[1:44] progress you made so far? The south side
of the road. All the curbs done on the
[1:48] south side of the road.
>> So So adding two does that affect the
[1:53] the curb? What? Well, so that's the
thing is if you if we don't go full
[1:58] depth, there's going to be additional
wedging because of where the grades we
[2:01] had to set the curbs to get the water to
flow because there wasn't proper water
[2:05] drainage. If you go down there right
now, we peeled the asphalt that was
[2:08] overlaid over the old curbs and it's
already it's like 3 to 4 in on top of
[2:13] the old curbs that were there. So, the
new car with putting the new curb in,
[2:18] we're setting those so that they don't
need to be overlaid
[2:22] um and that the water will make it to
the catch basins on the corners of the
[2:27] streets.
>> I guess what I'm trying to figure out is
[2:31] are we leaving the existing base layer
as or is that all the way coming out and
[2:36] you're putting the new 2 in? So all the
asphalt that's there, what we would do
[2:41] is we would do a 3 and 1/2 in mill over
the whole road. And then there's going
[2:45] to be some spots that there asphalt's a
little bit deeper because it's not
[2:49] uniform. There's spots that where it's 2
in and there's spots where it's like
[2:52] four to 5 in. Um so what we would do
then is turn around and pulverize the
[2:58] rest of the material that's there and
use that material that's on site to
[3:02] grade the road. So that when we put the
new asphalt, the new three and a half
[3:05] inches in that's what you're gonna have
a uniform three and a half inches
[3:09] across.
>> I would make sure we burn already set up
[3:13] curbs and then as folding over existing
and running over the the curb.

[3:24] » I guess the question I have is there's
usually a contingency factor in a lot of
[3:28] these. Is this kind of eaten up into
that?
[3:34] We may not see budget impact.
>> Yeah, we'll see a slight impact on
[3:40] what's in the contingency because
there's been other materials we've made.
