[3:47] worked together in the past on issues related to TRCA,
[3:51] but also, um, in your, in your work on ravine
[3:54] stewardship, uh, you have, uh, obviously a passion for the
[3:59] work of TRCA and the work that we do on
[4:01] stewardeem, the lands in this bioregion. And I, I just,
[4:05] we're very pleased to have you now, uh, with all
[4:07] of your experience with, which includes working with the provincial
[4:11] government for many years on some of the landmark and
[4:14] the Keystone legislation that we work with every day, like
[4:18] the environmental assessment act and important piece of legislation that
[4:22] we use all the time here at TRCA with our
[4:24] partners. Um, we're very, these were foundational pieces of work
[4:28] that you worked on in your rules at the province.
[4:31] And we're very pleased to have you now, uh, as
[4:33] a member of the board. And we're looking forward to,
[4:36] uh, working with you. And especially, um, leveraging all your
[4:40] expertise and knowledge as we, uh, work on, uh, the
[4:44] incredible projects and the incredible initiatives that we do in
[4:47] support of, uh, our mandate. So just want to thank
[4:51] you very much for already the initial discussions that we've
[4:54] had. And, uh, for your interest in, in, um, getting
[4:57] out there on our sites and, and working with us
[5:00] even closer. And I know, um, Deputy Mayor Ainsley, I
[5:03] don't know if the add. I know that you've worked
[5:06] with Paul in your capacities. Yeah. No, uh, Paul has
[5:10] a long history of environmental stewardship. And I'm very happy
[5:14] to have him on the board and looking forward to
[5:16] working with him and welcome to the Board of Directors,

[5:23] Sure. So, um, I'm very excited to join the board.
[5:30] It's a, uh, a new chapter in my life, uh,
[5:34] I'm looking forward to it very much. And I do,
[5:37] I made very interested in, uh, obviously what the TRCA
[5:41] does. It's mandate and, uh, it's role in, in stewarding,
[5:46] very, you know, one of our critical assets. And, um,
[5:51] I had the good fortune of living on, uh, or
[5:55] being very close to ravine for most of my life.
[5:59] And this has shaped, it's in my jeans, I guess
[6:02] that I'm interested in natural areas, urban natural areas. I
[6:06] was one of the fathers of the original City of
[6:10] Toronto or Veen's protection bylaw, which has changed considerably since
[6:15] then. And that was back in 1977. And I, uh,
[6:21] when I was a director of the North Rosedale Reed
[6:25] Parts Association, as it was called, I and others initiated
[6:30] studies of the Rosedale ravines, which are in Councillor Saxes
[6:34] Warg. And that was back in 1977. And we retained
[6:38] the You of the Scientific Study plot - based study.
[6:42] And we went back 40 years later using UT Daniels
[6:47] to reassess the situation. We were shocked. At the amount
[6:51] of invasives. And other changes to the ravines, which was
[6:57] a clarion call that we needed to up the ante
[7:02] in terms of protecting a very important resource for Toronto.
[7:07] And so in that note, uh, we reorganised an organisation
[7:11] that we've been helping for many years, and it's now
[7:15] called Toronto Nature Stewards. And it's a citywide organisation. It's
[7:20] about six years old. It started with nine sites that
[7:25] the volunteer, uh, volunteer steward and, or sorry, not, yeah,
[7:30] nine sites and 53 volunteers. This year we are stewarding,
[7:36] um, uh, 50 sites. And we have 2, 000 volunteers.
[7:44] And it doesn't cost the city anything. Uh, the staff
[7:47] are paid for, uh, by private contribution. And I see
[7:53] you with the ravines and other areas, uh, in the
[7:57] watershed, of course, uh, that invasives and the conversion of
[8:01] lands are the biggest threats. And I look at things
[8:04] like, um, metro Lynx's building across ravines, over ravines like
[8:11] the Ignition West LRT. As examples of that. And we're
[8:17] invasive, she can find the mervy wear. Professionally, I have
[8:20] a master's environmental studies from York. Those are the early
[8:26] days for that program. Uh, as was alluded to earlier,
[8:31] uh, I work as a staff person in cabinet office
[8:36] and with the Ministry of Environment back then, I was
[8:39] one of the fathers of the environmental assessment act. Uh,
[8:45] for more than 35 years I've been doing government relations
[8:48] work, uh, primarily with the city of Toronto. And the
[8:53] province. Um, so no fee is one of my clients
[9:00] and you, you know, that, uh, they have a huge
[9:02] campus at. Uh, they have a huge campus at steels
[9:07] and Dufrin and they are stewarding part of the, um,
[9:10] uh, Don Valley West ravine adjacent to their campus. And
[9:15] I've helped them with this. Got it started. That's how
[9:18] we, I met John when he was newly minted. Uh,
[9:22] and that was, uh, six years ago seven years ago.
[9:27] And that program continues and we have a strong relationship
[9:30] with the UT, which has been a big supporter of
[9:33] ours. So that's about me. I look forward to being
[9:37] a very active member. I want to get oats and
[9:40] do things. I want to represent the organisation and help
[9:44] advance its interests. So thank you very much. Thank you

[19:39] game with our, uh, very, and I believe the best
[19:43] flood mapping, uh, in Ontario based on the LIDAR work
[19:47] and everything that we've done to make sure that this
[19:49] is the best tested, uh, flood mapping. We have identified
[19:53] all those areas that would experience, uh, the flood risk
[19:57] and our, our within, uh, within the risk areas. What
[20:01] we have been trying to do, and I know we've
[20:03] done a lot more, especially with councillor DASCO and councillor
[20:06] Fonsenco in PIL, especially related to a little atopical creek
[20:10] where the issues and events, um, same events that were
[20:15] actually reporting on here. We've had a lot of local,
[20:18] um, workshops, a lot of outreach to try to get
[20:22] more of the businesses, more of the residents signed up,
[20:27] uh, so we can then make sure they get those
[20:29] alerts, uh, that they're all subscribed that we can send
[20:33] those alerts as quickly as possible to them. Um, but,
[20:37] but I do think, uh, there are some more potential
[20:39] opportunities, but I'm going to let Samir dolla and his
[20:42] team speak to that, uh, smear. Do you want to

[20:53] vulnerable areas throughout our jurisdiction. And just last week we

[21:02] areas. So last week we sent this information out, uh,
[21:06] which provides all the information you would need to inform
[21:08] your constituents. So, um, if you haven't received that yet,
[21:12] we will follow up with Emily just to make sure
[21:14] that you have this package. And again, a lot of
[21:16] the information on the website. We've made a lot of
[21:18] enhancements. So anybody, any member of the public could actually,
[21:21] uh, registra online to receive, um, the flood warning messages
[21:26] as they are released. And our website TRCAGing. ca. That
[21:31] is publicly available. It's an amazing website. I believe it's
[21:34] probably one of the most advanced flood warning systems in
[21:37] Canada whereby you could see in real time where our
[21:41] gauges are. We have real - time cameras. We have
[21:43] precipitation gauges and any member of the public could actually
[21:46] go in there during event before an event and look
[21:49] at, um, exactly what's happening within the area. And this
[21:53] also, all the, um, flood warning gauges, the real -
[21:56] time gauges are located in hotspots areas where we are
[21:58] concerned about flooding. So there's a wealth of resources out
[22:02] there, but again, as I mentioned, we do develop site
[22:05] - specific packages that we provide to each of the
[22:07] councillors and within these areas. So if you haven't received
[22:10] it yet, please reach out to us and we could
[22:12] make sure that you get that. Please do send it
[22:17] to me. My other question was, I know you focus
[22:19] on fluvial flooding flooding from the rivers, but some of
[22:23] our big damages are from pluvial funding, fronting just localized
[22:27] rain that the sewers can't carry away. Are you now
[22:32] or will you soon be able to give people warnings
[22:35] of their pluvial risks as well? Through the chair, um,
[22:41] again, it's outside of our mandate to look at the
[22:43] pluvial risks, but a lot of the information we do
[22:46] collect, especially the real - time precipitation gauges. We've set
[22:50] them up to really alert us and provide a worms
[22:52] to us based on intensity. So, uh, as you're aware,
[22:56] as we get these really, the sewer systems are designed
[22:58] to only handle a certain amount of water. And if
[23:01] we get these real intense downbursts of rain, that's when
[23:04] they get overwhelmed, usually during a major thunderstorms. So this
[23:09] information can be very helpful. And we've been working closely
[23:11] with all our municipal partners. Uh, they do have this
[23:14] information, uh, they have access to our website. And we
[23:17] actually provide special access and communications to reminds people partners
[23:20] so that they could get this information. So again, we're
[23:23] working very closely with them on, on the aspects associated
[23:26] with pluvial flooding as well. Okay. Those are my questions.

[23:51] question. At this time, it's the overall situation across the
[23:54] watershed, but we are looking to make advancements, uh, so
[23:58] that may be something we could provide in the future.
[24:01] But one thing that we do try to clarify within
[24:03] our messages is the locations to be concerned about. So
[24:06] last week, for example, we had, um, an intense downpour
[24:10] that was actually the lower DON area. So we were
[24:13] in touch with metro length city of Toronto, Toronto transportation,
[24:16] but also in our flood warning message, we did identify
[24:18] that as the area of concern. So, uh, again, in
[24:21] the future, we're looking to make some of those advancements
[24:23] where we can be more targeted. But at this time,
[24:24] um, but we try to clarify as much as we

[1:12:46] emotions that I'm announcing in retirement of, uh, Paul Noak,
[1:12:51] who has served as their senior enforcement officer. Uh, for
[1:12:54] a number of years and has been and has offered
[1:12:58] dedicated service to TRCA for the last 46 years. Uh,
[1:13:02] Paulister's hiring and Paul has done such a great job
[1:13:07] demonstrated outstanding dedication, uh, be passion for Conservation. And his,
[1:13:13] uh, enduring commitment to protecting and preserving our watersheds has
[1:13:17] made a lasting impact on our organisation. And the communities
[1:13:21] we serve. He, uh, you know, is always out there
[1:13:24] when needed is always on. Uh, for his colleagues and
[1:13:28] supporting his colleagues. And on behalf of TRCA, I just
[1:13:31] wanted to extend my sincere, um, gratitude to Paul for
[1:13:34] all of the exceptional service. All of his contributions, uh,
[1:13:39] we wish him the very, very best, uh, well deserve
[1:13:42] returnment. And I just, you know, the chair and I
[1:13:45] were reflecting on this earlier today, 46 years of dedication
[1:13:49] to an organisation. How often do you hear about something
[1:13:52] like that nowadays? It is incredible. And we just wanted
[1:13:55] to thank him so much for everything he has done,
[1:13:59] uh, wish him the, uh, very best. So thank you
[1:14:02] so much, Paul. Thank you very much, John. Unbelievable. 46
[1:14:10] years of service to this organisation. Just goes above and
[1:14:14] beyond. So we wish Paul all of est in his
[1:14:17] retirement and just can't thank him enough for the impact
[1:14:20] that he's had on our organisation. Um, there are a
[1:14:23] lot of, uh, summer events happening. There is an events
[1:14:26] calendar. Do you want to talk about any of these

[1:14:36] it's okay, uh, I also want to also introduce you
[1:14:40] to a new member of our team, uh, and at
[1:14:43] least a prize of you that we do now have
[1:14:46] a chief human resources officer that has joined us. Um,
[1:14:49] and I wanted to make sure that you were aware
[1:14:52] that arena risotto, uh, has, um, has been the successful,
[1:14:57] uh, candidate for the chief human resources officer position. Uh,
[1:15:01] Irena joins us after two decades of progressive HR experience
[1:15:06] across the public sector, including, um, important roles that she's
[1:15:10] played, uh, including where she just joined us from, uh,
[1:15:13] at Metro Lynx where she had the position of director
[1:15:16] of strategic human resources and partnerships. And we're, uh, and
[1:15:20] prior to that arena worked in various organisations, healthcare organisations
[1:15:25] where she oversaw labour and employer relations matters. So, uh,
[1:15:29] arena holds a public policy administration, a law degree from
[1:15:33] York University and honours bachelor's arts degree from, uh, York
[1:15:37] University psychology law. She's just the exceptional, uh, already we've
[1:15:43] had some great discussions in the role over the last
[1:15:46] week. And we're very excited to work with Irena. So
[1:15:48] I just wanted to make you aware you will see
[1:15:50] her in future items. And so that's a new person
[1:15:53] that's joined our senior leadership team at TRC. Hey, thank
[1:15:58] you very much, John. So a huge welcome to Irena.
[1:16:01] And again, more comms between large organisations that we're already
[1:16:05] working with. So her relationships with metro links will be
[1:16:07] very, very helpful. All right. Our, our next Board of

[1:16:14] that we will need to meet between now and then
