Today we're talking with Mayor Teresa
[0:16] Ridge. Welcome Mayor.
>> Well thank you Vicky, nice to be here.
[0:19] » Excellent, so let's get started.
>> Okie dokie.
[0:22] » So tell us something about yourself that
residents may not know or might be
[0:26] surprised to learn.
>> I love travel. And so this last year
[0:34] my husband and I made it to the end of
our seven continents.
[0:39] And
and then we're almost through the 50
[0:42] states. So before the clock strikes
2027,
[0:46] we should be done with all 50 states as
well.
[0:48] » All right, [clears throat] so now let's
share a funny or memorable moment you've
[0:52] experienced as an elected official.
>> Well, recently we as a city celebrated
[1:00] America's 250th anniversary. Something
that that really stuck with me is during
[1:05] the course of the evening a group of
young people, teenagers, came up to me
[1:09] and said you're the mayor, right? And I
said yes. And you never know what's
[1:13] going to come out of somebody's mouth
after that. And and they said we just
[1:17] wanted to say thank you. For those young
people, when they think back on their
[1:24] life in Farmington Hills, whether they
go on to somewhere else or stay here,
[1:30] when they think about their life in
Farmington Hills, they're going to
[1:33] remember a beautiful
wonderful summertime night where they
[1:39] were surrounded by community and smiling
faces and the best fireworks finale
[1:44] anybody has ever seen.
>> So Mayor, what motivated you to run for
[1:49] office?
>> I have a vision for our city
[1:52] and want to see some really important
things get done. And now here we are
[1:58] into the second term of office and I'm
so proud of what we have been able to
[2:04] get done. And you know, when when I was
asked part of the thinking was if I
[2:11] don't do it, will I one day regret that
I didn't try?
[2:15] » That's great.
So, I'm going to take you out of your
[2:18] elected official role and we're going to
have a little fun with five questions.
[2:22] Quick-fire questions.
>> So, first one.
[2:26] What's the best sandwich?
>> So, I like
[2:30] grilled sandwich,
turkey, brie and a little cranberry
[2:35] sauce on a on a CD bread.
>> That sounds delicious.
[2:39] All right, cake or pie? [snorts]
>> Pie, every day of the week.
[2:44] That's my jam.
>> Scariest animal?
[2:48] » In addition to human?
>> [laughter]
[2:50] » No doubt.
>> Ooh,
[2:52] you know, they have that man or a bear.
So, I would say rat because they're they
[2:58] carry disease and
nasty creatures.
[3:02] » Can't argue with you there. Okay,
eliminate one.
[3:06] » Uh-uh.
>> Freeways, roundabouts.
[3:09] » No can do.
No can do.
[3:12] So, I reject this question
because freeways are important. You
[3:17] know, we need to be able to get to where
we need to go. So, can't eliminate the
[3:23] freeway.
>> Okay.
[3:24] » But you also can't eliminate the
roundabout. Now, I know we've got the
[3:28] roundabout haters in town, right? And
but the thing is, if you look at the
[3:33] intersections where we have roundabouts,
we still have crashes. There always
[3:39] going to be crashes,
but they're less dramatic. There's less
[3:44] damage. There's less property damage
because it's just a side swipe, but more
[3:48] importantly, there's less human damage
because it's a lower speed impact and so
[3:55] there's less likelihood of something
that will really hurt a person.
[4:00] » Great answer, very strategic. I like it.
So, finally
[4:05] if you could have one superpower, what
would the mayor choose?
[4:10] » [sighs]
[4:13] » I think as mayor I already have a
superpower.
[4:16] And my superpower is that I can convene.
And so, you know, when somebody gets a
[4:23] call of "Hi, it's the mayor. I'd like
you to come to a something."
[4:28] Um people usually come.
And and try to keep an open mind and so
[4:34] usually the answer for that is yes.
>> Wow, I surely thought you were going to
[4:38] say the fly cuz you're so busy
throughout the city. [laughter] So, you
[4:42] really you really tricked me with that
one. Yes.
[4:44] » I would love teleportation.
>> Exactly. Well, thank you for this was
