[0:15] superintendent and K12 principal at
[0:16] Girley County Schools. Here at Gley
[0:19] County Schools, we are very fortunate to
[0:22] uh live in a district in which we have
[0:24] so much community support. Our patrons
[0:27] allow us to have uh the the best in
[0:31] facilities as well as in um items in the
[0:34] classroom. As far as electronics are
[0:37] concerned, we're what we would call a
[0:39] tech technologically rich district. We
[0:41] have laptop computers available for our
[0:43] students 6 through 12 and we have
[0:45] laptops available for our students in
[0:47] the elementary as well. We've recently
[0:49] upgraded in the elementary school to
[0:51] Prometheian smartboards and we feel that
[0:54] this type of technology is really
[0:55] engaging for students. It allows them to
[0:58] learn the best way possible uh as far as
[1:01] 21st century skills are concerned. We
[1:04] have an outstanding faculty and staff at
[1:06] Griley County and our relationships with
[1:08] our community are one of the best. We
[1:11] are part of the four square model for
[1:15] Green County in the community and with
[1:18] that relationship that we have, we have
[1:21] been able to put together one of the
[1:23] nicest facilities in the state as far as
[1:25] small schools are concerned. We recently
[1:28] passed the bond issue for our elementary
[1:30] and the remodeling process is almost
[1:32] complete. We have some very outstanding
[1:34] buildings right now. Once again, thank
[1:37] you and welcome to uh this short tour of
[1:40] Greley County and Gley County Schools.

[1:45] Gley County Schools offer cuttingedge
[1:47] technology with an emphasis on
[1:49] experiential learning. This means our
[1:51] children not only learn in the
[1:53] classroom, but with observation and
[1:54] interaction as well. With a 10:1 student
[1:58] teacher ratio and high academic
[1:59] achievement, our students are ready to
[2:01] take on the responsibilities as
[2:03] tomorrow's leaders.
[2:05] In our elementary school, each grade has
[2:08] access to the latest technology, ranging
[2:10] from Smartboard learning to educational
[2:12] laptop programs. They're introduced to
[2:15] music and art. And it's not unusual for
[2:17] a group of fourth graders to host a meal
[2:19] for their parents or community members
[2:21] to practice etiquette or celebrate a
[2:23] holiday.
[2:25] just the the the sense of um the
[2:29] community all watching looking out for
[2:31] each other, you know, in in the schools
[2:34] um and the just downtown all over the
[2:38] community. There's there's a sense that,
[2:40] you know, we all know each other and
[2:42] we're looking out for each other,
[2:43] whether it's our kids and um our dogs. I
[2:47] mean, you know, it's all together. So,
[2:51] there are a lot of things I enjoy about
[2:52] living in Gley County. Um, it offers a
[2:55] great school system for my girls to be
[2:58] raised. It's a safe, vibrant community.
[3:01] Um, one of the things that they really
[3:02] enjoy doing is working with their
[3:04] livestock and being involved with 4. We
[3:07] have a great 4 program. We um, show
[3:11] livestock all over Kansas, but when we
[3:13] come back home to Gurley County, we just
[3:14] really realize how fortunate we are to
[3:16] have such a great um, facility to
[3:19] utilize. Um, we have great project
[3:21] leaders and great group leaders and so
[3:24] that just makes it more fun for my
[3:26] girls. Uh, the support that we get from
[3:28] the community, the welcoming, the just
[3:31] overall atmosphere atmosphere of being
[3:35] involved and being appreciated by
[3:38] community members is something that
[3:39] can't be replaced. Our junior high is a
[3:42] charter school which offers a
[3:44] contemporary active education where
[3:46] students experience 1-day, 2-day, and
[3:48] week-long field studies in Kansas,
[3:50] Colorado, and New Mexico. These trips
[3:53] allow our kids to directly apply their
[3:55] learning to nature and the world around
[3:56] them. Our students are also spirited
[3:59] competitors in various sports ranging
[4:01] from cross country to volleyball,
[4:03] football, basketball, and track. In
[4:05] addition, when they enroll, all of our
[4:07] junior high and high school students are
[4:09] issued their own laptop computers for
[4:10] use throughout the school year.
[4:14] Hello, I'm Monica. And I'm Hannah. Um, I
[4:18] enjoy I've always lived in Tribune,
[4:20] Kansas. And I love the fact that I know
[4:24] everybody in the community. I love the
[4:26] fact that I know all my my classmates
[4:29] and all my teachers very well. and it's
[4:32] just a friendly environment for me and
[4:35] it's just really nice to have everybody
[4:39] so close
[4:40] and just everybody know each other. Um,
[4:44] I actually moved here from a really big
[4:46] school and it was it was a big change,
[4:49] but I like it better because as a class
[4:52] we can interact more and you have a lot
[4:56] more one-on-one time with the teachers
[4:57] because the majority of the teachers
[4:59] here only have a few classes and they
[5:03] all have time to help you and break
[5:07] things down for you if you really don't
[5:09] understand.
[5:10] Gley County High School strives to
[5:12] complete a well-rounded education
[5:14] through an integrated comprehensive
[5:16] curriculum. Our students also enjoy an
[5:19] array of activities outside the
[5:20] classroom. You'll find our young adults
[5:22] volunteering in various community
[5:24] projects, participating in student
[5:26] council, National Honor Society, Big
[5:28] Brothers Big Sisters, sports, music, and
[5:31] drama. With the help of our dedicated
[5:34] teachers, parents, and community, Gley
[5:36] County is proud that 90% of our
[5:38] graduating seniors advance onto some
[5:40] form of higher education. This community
[5:43] realizes the importance of education and
[5:46] truly believes in the potential of every
[5:48] student.
