[6:32] What we are trying to do is to establish a student
[6:38] internship program that will provide qualified high school students with
[6:44] paid part-time supervised employment opportunities connected
[6:51] to their CTE stemming career preparation.
[6:55] This is something that we felt like we have an opportunity that we can do
[7:00] considering the EIC and all that's working there, and the additional help that we
[7:06] need. The program will allow students who qualify, seniors
[7:11] who qualify for early release to apply skills learned through schools, through
[7:18] work experiences with the Grenada School District, and where appropriate and
[7:23] participating community partners also join us.
[7:29] The program will begin during this school year, '26, '27 year.
[7:34] And it would begin first with one fab tech
[7:40] funded by the Grenada Public Education Foundation.
[7:46] Additional student positions will be developed throughout the year as funding
[7:52] and as students become qualified to do
[7:57] meaningful work assignments, then we will have appropriate supervision.
[8:04] Now, we've looked at this through
[8:10] Julie, who has looked at the legal side of what takes place whenever you
[8:16] employ someone. So these students would be paid part-time employees, and
[8:22] they must qualify for senior early release, as I mentioned before.
[8:28] They would normally work around eight to 15 hours a week,
[8:33] and that would remain below the applicable
[8:39] PERS coverage threshold of 20 hours a week. Okay?
[8:45] We think it would be a very good program.
[8:47] The proposed career paths for this would be a fab tech, a
[8:53] teacher's aide for pre-K,
[8:58] automotive tech That would be working at the bus shop, health tracks
[9:04] tech in health sciences. That would be a healthcare work site
[9:10] person, maintenance tech, a person that would be working in
[9:14] carpentry and construction within the maintenance department.
[9:20] Engineering tech, this would be a person that would be
[9:26] getting ready for Project Lead the Way engineering, and would be working at the
[9:32] EIC in a hospitality tech, someone that would be working with
[9:38] culinary arts and food service in the school district, they'd be working
[9:44] within that area. Now, the pay would be
[9:48] $8.72 an hour. This program has already been
[9:53] piloted by a couple of school districts across the state, Pascagoula School
[9:59] District, and Pascagoula's CTA Teacher
[10:06] Academy, they're already doing this.
[10:08] We think this is a wonderful way for our students to gain some real work
[10:13] experience, be supervised well, and to
[10:19] learn what they need to do in the workplace.
[10:22] And it would give them an opportunity to earn a little bit of funds that
[10:28] would make it a little bit more relevant.
[10:31] Students are expected to be at the assigned work site, performing the assigned
[10:37] work under the supervision of a designated employee during all
[10:43] scheduled work hours. In other words, we're not just going to put them out there
[10:47] and let them run on their own. Somebody's going to be there working with them and
[10:53] trying to help them to understand what they need to do.
[10:56] They would clock in and clock out so we can keep up with our hours very
[11:02] appropriately. And, we're expecting these students to comply
[11:08] with all district policies, procedures, rules, everything that we do in the
[11:14] workplace. We expect our students to do the very same thing.
[11:18] And if they don't do that, then we would remove them from this student internship
[11:25] program. We think it's a good program.
[11:28] It would be coordinated with administrators and we think it would be a wonderful
[11:34] thing. And so we're asking for board action is being requested to approve
[11:40] the establishment of the Grenada Career and Technical Center student
[11:46] intern program, and authorize the administration to begin
[11:50] implementation with one fab tech person
[11:56] first, and subsequently develop additional student
[12:01] interns as we go into the year. And Dr.

[12:16] And we feel good about this program because it gives students an opportunity to

[12:41] students from the school and into the work site.
[12:44] And so we don't want to say per se that the students that go through educator prep
[12:48] will become teacher assistants, but we want to give them that opportunity to
[12:52] experience the workforce. And so just to get them as much experience as possible
[12:56] and just trying to find ways to get our students into the workforce.

[22:59] Search at Milwaukee Tools, and we're excited about that.

[23:20] They went in, they were excited, and they're up and running.

[24:11] If you're not preparing kids for the workforce or to go on to

[24:34] think that it's gonna be a great program, and we think that it's gonna have a very
[24:38] bright future. The third thing I wanted to mention was,

[24:50] weapons detection system to put in our schools.
[24:56] And what we would like to do, we've got some more research to do on this, but what
[25:02] we would like to do... And when we're talking about weapons detection system,
[25:08] this is something that sits at the entrance to the schools. Okay?
[25:14] And then when students walk through, then it's gonna be able to scan them
[25:21] and see if they might have some type of weapon. Okay?
[25:26] Because we know that we have issues that's going on within our community, and we
[25:32] want to do everything we can to help to make sure our students are in a
[25:38] very safe, hosted environment at school.
[25:42] And so what we would like to do is we would like to research this project,
[25:48] then we would like to do a reverse auction so that we could get the product
[25:54] that we need for the cheapest amount of money.
[25:57] Now, basically what we're talking about is each of
[26:02] these systems would cost in the neighborhood of $80,000 to
[26:08] $90,000, each one. We
