name is Jay Kingston with the Texas A&M
[19:05] AgriLife Extension Service and
I office out of Stephenville and serve
[19:09] as the supervisor for your county agents
here in Hill County and
[19:14] I think uh
I think you know what a good job they do
[19:17] and I just I'm here just to kind of
reiterate that as well. So, definitely
[19:21] appreciate the court support of AgriLife
Extension here in Hill County and
[19:27] your agents are doing a great job of
reaching
[19:31] their your constituents and their their
clientele as well. We put this
[19:37] newsletter together every year. The
front page is kind of an overview of of
[19:41] what we do district-wide, which is 21
counties.
[19:44] The back page we drill down to what is
going on here in Hill County.
[19:48] Uh
If we look at the back page, we can look
[19:52] at all the ag and natural resources
programming that Zach does.
[19:56] He He provides a tremendous amount of
programming opportunities
[20:01] for farmers and ranchers here in Hill
County.
[20:04] And we broke it down into the subject
matter areas. So, row crop production is
[20:09] that first one. You can see there's
numerous field days and seminars and
[20:14] activities, workshops.
I like to look at
[20:19] kind of what impact we have.
And so, Zach was able to reach over
[20:23] 91,000 acres worth of row crop
production here in Hill County.
[20:29] If you look at that economic impact, you
can see based on So, we asked attendees
[20:34] kind of what kind of economic impact
this programming does or will have. In
[20:40] their production, you can see over
$700,000
[20:44] of an economic impact for those
producers that attended those
[20:48] programming. So,
providing some good education to them
[20:52] that
will benefit their operations.
[20:55] We look at the livestock and forage
program area.
[20:58] Again,
quite a few programming efforts going
[21:02] there. Over 130,000 acres of pasture
land, over 17,000 head of livestock were
[21:09] represented at those programs, and you
can see the economic impact
[21:14] just right under a million dollars for
those producers.
[21:18] Uh as you know, feral hogs are always an
issue, will always be an issue, and
[21:23] Zach's doing a good job addressing that
with his with the landowners here in
[21:27] Hill County.
Uh appreciate that support through the
[21:30] bounty program.
Um I think that's making an impact. Uh
[21:36] it's it'll be a continued continued
effort. It'll be a a struggle
[21:41] um
moving forward as well. Uh also
[21:44] providing some programming to uh
those landowners on management
[21:50] strategies
for feral hogs. And then of course
[21:54] horticultural awareness, uh providing
some of that programming to
[21:59] homeowners, to new landowners, uh as
that population grows, providing them
[22:05] some opportunities to learn about how to
take care, be good stewards of their
[22:10] properties as well.
Zach also uh oversees the Hill County
[22:15] Master Gardener program.
Uh they have volunteered over 1,000
[22:21] hours
of of work here in Hill County.
[22:25] And uh
and that is valued at
[22:29] $38,000 at volunteer hours. And so they
just help extend our reach, extend
[22:35] our educational opportunities there. So
appreciate Zach, uh his leadership to
[22:41] the district, the leadership that he
brings to the county,
[22:44] and his programming. If we look at the
Family and Consumer Sciences, uh
[22:49] Lindsay's doing a great job with with I
think a full year of program so far. So
[22:54] we're proud of Lindsay in her first year
here in Hill County.
[22:58] As you know, our
Uh,
[23:01] responsibilities include nutrition and
health, physical activity,
[23:06] uh
and does a great job providing some
[23:08] programming for
Hill County. You can see uh appreciate
[23:13] her
doing the healthy cooking and healthy
[23:16] you programming, which is targeted to
adults uh looking at cooking and
[23:23] nutrition and how that affects health.
And you know, chronic diseases are an
[23:28] issue or will be an issue when when
Lindsey's doing a good job of providing
[23:32] some opportunities
for uh
[23:35] our clientele to learn about those, how
to treat those, how to deal with those
[23:39] day-to-day.
Uh
[23:42] Lindsey and
uh
[23:45] works as well as in a
substance abuse prevention events of
[23:50] whether that's through
health fairs or working with
[23:55] different partners here in the county
and providing some information on
[23:58] substance abuse prevention, uh which
again is something that we need to work
[24:03] on.
Angie and Lindsey
[24:06] kind of partner together and work with
Hill College in providing some
[24:10] programming for some for some youth
there. I think that was the first time
[24:13] that they've been able to be with Hill
College.
[24:17] I know they were excited about it. I was
excited that they could they could do
[24:20] that.
Uh
[24:22] food science and kitchen skills, again,
we're providing those young people some
[24:26] life skills. Angie does a great job in
the 4-H program.
[24:32] Uh her membership grew this past year
with our 4-H members.
[24:36] Uh very very proud of that. She has
uh quite a few volunteers that uh
[24:42] help with that. Of course, we can't do
our job without our adult volunteers and
[24:46] Angie does a good job of recruiting
those and training those and getting
[24:49] those uh
parents involved.
[24:55] One of the
important things that we do is
[24:59] ag literacy literacy education for our
young people and Angie can get into
[25:04] those schools,
work with those teachers and providing
[25:08] kind of that education whether it's
about water,
[25:12] whether it's about biology and life
sciences through agriculture, whether
[25:17] it's
just ag awareness and where their food
[25:20] comes from and and the importance of
agriculture and and production to their
[25:25] lives and so Angie does a great job. You
can see the number of youth that she
[25:30] impacts through her programming as well.
Her forest program is very active here
[25:36] in the county, a lot of projects. You
can see those listed there.
[25:40] Very active on our district level
and then also on the state level as
[25:45] well. So we're we're proud of the agents
and what the work that they're doing
[25:49] here in Hill County and and hope you you
realize and see that impact as well.

addressed. One being the jail. We have
[28:38] multiple repairs that need to be done.
Uh the speaker and software system is

Some of the speakers do not work, mostly

[28:49] Just to kind of give you an idea of what
that may cost,

a few places give us some bids um
[28:57] that are in that line of work and
uh for the speaker system and the uh
[29:01] control system and the lighting system
um we're looking at over 350,000 on the
[29:07] low end.
Um
[29:11] dispatch center needs some repair that
has the main flooring in there since the
[29:15] building was built back in '02 or '03
time frame.
[29:19] Uh some of those consoles are broken and
need to be uh replaced. They can be
[29:24] quite expensive.
Um I don't know exactly what Do we know
[29:28] a rough cost on that, Chief?

[29:34] they won't take them down. We'll have to
move them into a separate area of the of
[29:37] the building until we can get that
remodel done.

over the property room was

it audited from an outside source. Try
[29:53] to get it reorganized. There's no uh
it's just a handwriting system,
[29:57] basically. So, we have a gun range that
is non-operable,
[30:00] uh not safe to operate in and uh I shut
it down when I got here and got it
[30:04] inspected.
Um so, I asked basically asking to use
[30:08] some of those funds that are remaining
to turn the gun range, clean it out,
[30:12] turn it into a
larger property room where the
[30:16] property officer will have
um more access to the property, more
[30:21] safer,
um more secure storage. Uh we're not
[30:24] stacking things on top of things.
Uh we're not risking air conditioners
[30:29] flooding
property evidence, stuff like that. So,
[30:32] uh
got a little uh like a rough estimate on
[30:35] what that might cost just to do the
walls,
[30:38] not not including the uh locker system
and the
[30:44] store shelving but the walls itself be
around 50,000
[30:47] um
to clean that out and put new walls up.
[30:51] And then probably another eight to 10
for the air conditioning system that
[30:55] will need to go in there.
[30:59] Um and then anything else is left over
um
[31:02] to prevent further costs, we'll just
probably purchase some more vehicles.

gone into partnership with Equifax and
[36:48] the Sheriff's app. Um our new
system that the state requires us to use
[36:53] for victim notification does not link up

So, people cannot get on there and view
[37:01] inmate information, bonds, and bond
amounts, charges, uh victim
[37:05] notification. We can't get any of that.
So, the Sheriff's app, uh the Sheriff's
[37:09] Association of Texas, and Equifax has
all joined together to make sure that
[37:13] that information can be placed on the
app. Now, um since we're already a
[37:17] current member, our annual fee of 1,000
of 7,000 dollars will now be cut down to
[37:23] 1,000 dollars.
