[0:00] hi I'm Lorelei Fowler I'm a junior here
[0:02] at Jasper County High School I want to
[0:03] take you on a tour of two of the most
[0:05] coolest Innovative classes the
[0:07] engineering class and the film class
[0:08] what's so great about the film class
[0:10] here at Jefferson County High School is
[0:12] because we get hands-on experience with
[0:13] like professional level equipment and we
[0:15] make films we have a news show you can
[0:18] take your ideas and put them on a screen
[0:20] if you don't go by the textbook it's up
[0:23] to you it's Project based so in film
[0:25] there's a lot of different jobs from
[0:27] makeup costumes pre-production building
[0:30] sets from anything from pre-writing
[0:33] which helps with writing scripts writing
[0:35] shot lists writing a timeline you go
[0:38] from that to protection which deals with
[0:40] camera lightings equipment and even
[0:42] building sets and then post-production
[0:45] which is in the editing lab where you
[0:46] can create sounds music editing all that
[0:49] cool stuff one of my personal favorites
[0:51] I like directing I like seeing over the
[0:54] actual production I like collaborating
[0:56] with all of my fellow classmates who
[0:58] bring so many different aspects into the
[1:00] set and creating these Visions on the
[1:03] screen for everyone else to see my ideas
[1:04] our film class is not classroom limited
[1:07] so we like to go out into our local
[1:09] community and we shoot for businesses
[1:11] most recently we went to our local
[1:12] courthouse and filmed a shot there
[1:15] I took over the engineering program here
[1:17] about five years ago after teaching
[1:19] science for 10 years and that first year
[1:21] we got some film equipment from the
[1:22] state and film was born as an offshoot
[1:24] of engineering now we have three classes
[1:27] of film as well as three classes of
[1:28] engineering I teach both Pathways and
[1:30] they work really well together actually
[1:32] we do various projects together for
[1:34] instance the engineering program will
[1:35] build film flats for sets for film
[1:38] department and we're building it so in
[1:40] panels so that it can actually piece
[1:42] together we can take it up in store and
[1:43] then we can put it down when we need it
[1:45] so pretty Innovative we go to Athens we
[1:46] go to Jekyll Island every year and the
[1:48] film students go and work on a contest
[1:49] the engineering comes and helps them out
[1:51] film will do promos for engineering
[1:53] projects for instance they race an
[1:54] electric vehicle so the film students
[1:56] will do a new show about the electric
[1:57] vehicle our education is
[2:05] about the programs is because they're in
[2:07] the same lab slash Studio I have
[2:09] students that actually work on both
[2:10] programs so they're both in film and
[2:12] Engineering this year I think I have
[2:13] about 10 maybe 15 that do that so it's
[2:15] really great for collaboration between
[2:16] different class periods throughout the
[2:18] day alumni of our program even go on to
[2:20] achieve bigger things in the industry
[2:22] from working on sets getting jobs in it
[2:25] just going to school for film and that's
[2:27] that's pretty cool I tell the students
[2:30] in film when they first come in here
[2:31] that there's a job for everything in
[2:33] film doesn't matter what you're
[2:34] interested in and film industry in
[2:36] Georgia is booming so there's lots of
[2:38] opportunity for for students to go out
[2:40] and work in the real world multimedia
[2:42] education that's innovation
[2:46] all right
