These are the changing types of conditions that we need to adapt to and prepare for. 411 01:07:22,000 --> 01:07:34,000 And I did mention drought. We actually have declared drought seven out of the last 10 years in some or all of parts of our state, many of them due to low snowpack. 412 01:07:34,000 --> 01:07:46,000 But that's not the only time that we've we've declared drought in 2021 with the heat dome. We lost almost all of our snowpack in the space of a week due to extreme high temperatures. 413 01:07:46,000 --> 01:07:53,000 So there's a variety of changing climate trends that are leaving us with less water when we need it most. 414 01:07:53,000 --> 01:08:04,000 In our infrastructure and our ecosystems were designed for the precipitation and temperature patterns of the past and that is no longer a predictor of what we will experience in the future. 415 01:08:04,000 --> 01:08:13,000 So this really gives us an opportunity to talk more about what are those integrated water solutions that are going to be right for different parts of our state. 416 01:08:13,000 --> 01:08:21,000 And the University of Washington climate impacts group has given us a wealth of data and information to help us understand what the future might hold. 417 01:08:21,000 --> 01:08:36,000 And just in the next 25 years or so we expect to be in snowpack drought more often than not so about 70% of the time we will be facing low snowpack years. 418 01:08:36,000 --> 01:08:43,000 This is a look at statewide projections around flooding and I mentioned that more of our water is arriving in the winter time. 419 01:08:43,000 --> 01:08:57,000 I think for people in the west side of the state that seems like that's normal, but really we are projected to see an increase in in the amount of rain that we get in the winter time. 420 01:08:57,000 --> 01:09:08,000 And with those higher temperatures in the winter less of that will be locked up and snow and more of it will be running off into our rivers and potentially causing flooding and bigger flooding. 421 01:09:08,000 --> 01:09:18,000 And these projections show that by the end of the century we expect to see up to about a 25% increase in that two year peak run off. 422 01:09:18,000 --> 01:09:23,000 So in many of the watersheds around the state. 423 01:09:23,000 --> 01:09:33,000 This is a projection around snowpack for the DeWamish green watershed and in here we're looking at both low emission scenario and high emission scenario. 424 01:09:33,000 --> 01:09:38,000 Recognizing that models are just that they're just projections to not predictions. 425 01:09:38,000 --> 01:09:47,000 There is a range but regardless of the emissions scenario that it will be ours in the future to inherit. 426 01:09:47,000 --> 01:09:57,000 Our future in Washington will be one with us now, so this is showing the change in April 1, snowpack in the last in eager feet of water. 427 01:09:57,000 --> 01:10:11,000 That is equivalent.
