I'm join us, but thank you for coming to tonight's session on the campus parent and campus portal. So we'll just wait another minute or two. Make sure everybody can log in but appreciate you all being on time and we will get started very shortly. All right. We're going to go ahead and get started. First of all, my name is Matthew Mayo and the director of digital teaching and learning and school connectivity. [0:33] Joining me today is Ms. Roy Spicer, who is our Section Chief for SIS Professional Learning. [0:40] SIS just simply stands for Student Information System. [0:43] You may have known this for the last couple of years as Power School. [0:47] We have made a switch over the last six to eight months to our brand new SIS for Phase 1 PSU, [0:55] which is School Districts, to switch over to Infinite Campus. [0:59] So tonight's call is all about using the parent portal pieces and also what the student view will look like in the NC CIS app. [1:08] And so tonight you'll learn a little bit more about this. [1:11] This is a statewide view of basically what this looks like. [1:15] And then of course we'll ask you to reach back out to your PSU, your school district and schools for more information as we move forward. [1:23] But at this time I'm going to turn it over to Ms. Roy Spicer who will lead us through tonight's training. [1:28] Thank you Matthew. So good evening and welcome to tonight's webinar on the campus portal for student and parents. [1:36] This is going to be an overview of portal features and you will obtain your information for creating accounts from your schools directly. [1:45] You might get an email or a letter with an activation code or URL. [1:50] So expect some of that information coming to you soon, especially if you're a year round school. [1:56] To clarify, you will need to create a new account if you had a parent portal account in [2:00] power school. [2:02] That's not going to work anymore. [2:03] You're going to need to create your new account in an infinite campus. [2:06] So again, you will get that information from your school directly. [2:09] It might be coming through a letter or email. [2:11] They have different options. [2:13] In addition, some of the things that I'm going to show you this evening may or may not appear [2:17] as options within your portal instances because schools and districts have the access [2:23] and the ability to choose which things that they are going to show within their portal. [2:27] So if there's something that you see tonight that's not available in your portal, [2:31] it's because your school district has chosen not to use that feature. [2:35] All right, so let's get started. [2:36] Give me a minute here to share my screen. [2:49] Everybody able to see my screen? [2:51] Somebody let me know. [2:52] Make sure I don't have a blank screen. [2:54] You're good to go. [2:56] All right, great. [2:57] So let's get started. [2:59] We go ahead. [3:00] So both campus, parent and student portal accounts are designed to keep parents and students [3:06] informed and connected with what's happening with grades, attendance, behavior, and school [3:10] events. [3:11] And there's two different options that are available to you for accessing the portal. [3:16] You can use either your computer or your phone to set up your accounts. [3:21] And we'll discuss that setup in just a few more minutes here. [3:26] So to get started, let's talk about some of the great features that are available within [3:30] the portal accounts. [3:31] Parents and students can see district and school announcements so they can be aware of anything [3:36] happening within the district or if there's a special event coming up in your school or [3:41] even your teacher could send something to you to let you know either the student or the [3:45] parent to know about maybe an upcoming assignment or missing assignments or updated grades. [3:50] So, you can get that information directly through the portal. [3:56] You can also see all of your assignments and grades or attendance events. [4:01] So, if your student missed a day of school or maybe just a period of school, [4:05] if you're a high school student on meeting attendance, parents can choose to get notifications [4:09] of any type of attendance event. [4:11] You can also stay up to date on the academic plan if your school or district chooses this, [4:16] which is going to show you your students' success and their progression towards graduating so [4:22] that academic plan is available within the portal. You might also have the option for paying fees [4:28] or purchasing things through the school store like spiritware or tickets to upcoming events. So [4:36] there's a lot of options available within the portal. Parents can also go and students can also go [4:42] under documents and review their schedules, print out report cards, and you have the [4:48] ability to update information, such as address information or phone numbers. Keep in mind, [4:53] with any of those options, it still would have to go through the review process before [4:58] you're going to see those changes reflected. And again, that information that is going to [5:04] be shown on your portal is going to vary based on your district and schools decisions. [5:09] Alright, [5:12] so for parents it's very important that you have these portals. There is a direct [5:16] correlation between parent engagement and student success. So the more connected and informed [5:21] you are with what's going on with your student, the more successful they are. So you're [5:27] going to be able to see those assignments, especially those missing assignments and you'll [5:30] be able to ask your students about them. You'll be able to stay up to date with any of the [5:35] happenings that are going on within the district or the school. Also, there are options [5:40] for lunch room if your district chooses that where you could pay for your lunch fees as well as limiting what type of choices your student makes. [5:52] And for students, they have a tough enough time. [5:55] It's a hard job being a full-time student and juggling everything that you've got going on with school as well as possibly sports or your social life. [6:03] So having this campus student account is a really beneficial for them. [6:07] They can get their real-time notifications sent to them. [6:10] If a teacher graded an assignment, they're going to see that information. [6:15] They'll be able to look to view what is upcoming. [6:18] It'll have their due dates on the assignment, so they'll know, hey, I need to get that assignment done today because it's due tomorrow. [6:24] They also will get those school and district announcements at any special events happening at the school. [6:29] That'll be especially important for any of those upcoming social events they want to participate in. [6:34] And then when it comes around to changing their schedule, especially for your high school [6:39] students at mid-year, when they get their next semester schedule, they'll be able to view [6:43] that information right on their phone so they'll know where to go. [6:46] So for your incoming freshmen, that'll be a little bit of relief, right? [6:49] They'll be able to figure out where their schedule is, where the room information is, [6:53] and they won't get lost in the halls. [6:55] So it's a great way for them to stay organized and to manage their classwork. [7:00] All right. So how do you create an account? So you will get information from your school that's [7:09] either going to come in an email or in a letter and you might get an activation key or you could [7:14] possibly get a URL link. So either one of those options will be available to you. You can choose to use [7:20] either the you can use your computer, do your web based or you can get the download the mobile app [7:27] and use your phone. Oh, it is recommended if you use the URL link that you do do that on your desktop [7:33] computer and then access the mobile app after that, just a little more friendly that way. So you've [7:39] got some instructions here that show you how to do it, but you're going to make sure to search for your [7:44] district name, choose your state, and then go ahead and complete your information either with your URL [7:49] code or your activation key to set up your new account. All right, so we have some instructions here [7:57] in case you're using the mobile app device. Again, you can use that one or you can log in using [8:03] your computer, your desktop or your laptop computer to access your account as well as to set up those [8:08] accounts. [8:11] So this is what your login page will look like. If you're a new user, you can see on the left [8:16] hand side for the campus parent, you're going to select a new user and that's going to prompt you to [8:21] put in your activation key if you have that. And then on the right hand side, you have your login [8:26] screen for your campus student. [8:31] When you do create your account, you will get an email for security [8:35] purposes. This is going to ask you to verify your email. This is going to be used in the event [8:39] that we need to verify that it's you. Maybe you're logging on with a different device. So you will [8:45] go ahead and click on that link. You'll get an email to click on the link to verify it. Once you do [8:50] that, you will have the ability to use the forgot my password option in the future because sometimes you [8:56] know we have so many passwords that we use, we forget which ones they are even when we write [9:00] them down, but you have to complete this email verifying it for security purposes before [9:06] you'll have that forgot my password option. [9:11] Alright, so let's take a look at what it's going to look like for the parent view of a portal. [9:16] So when you log into Infinite Campus, this is an example of what it's going to look like [9:20] on your home page, so you'll have your student information. [9:23] So in this example, we have Andy's student and Brie's student, so if you have more than [9:28] one student that's enrolled, you'll have that access to all of your students. [9:33] If for some reason you don't see one of your students, contact your school and they [9:38] can update your portal preferences, you're not able to do that, you're not going to be [9:42] able to add any students to your account that would be something that the school would have [9:46] to do. [9:47] So you'll have an overview here, you'll see your student information as well as you'll [9:51] see your district announcements and any inbox. [9:54] In your inbox messages, those would be things [9:56] that would be coming from teachers. [9:58] You'll also see you have some quick links there. [10:01] So your district might provide some quick links, [10:04] maybe something having to do with maybe their website portal [10:09] or something that parents or students frequently access. [10:12] So they can add those there. [10:15] If you have the ability to purchase things online [10:18] or to pay fees, as in the example you can see [10:20] on the right hand side where it says items in cart, you might have something where you've [10:24] purchased something from the school store, or you might have a fee that you need to pay there. [10:29] Then over on the left hand side is your main menu. This might vary per district and per school [10:35] as far as what they set up as their preferences, so it may or may not look like this, [10:40] but you could have your calendar, your assignments, your grades, grade book updates, [10:45] so all of those things you could select on to get more information for your student. [10:51] So let's take a look. [10:54] With the parent view, each student will have what they call their own card. [10:57] So they will have their own information, and depending on the preferences, some of the [11:02] things listed below, you may or may not see, might not come up as an option. [11:07] You can also choose to set up your notification settings. [11:11] So decide when you're going to get notifications, as well as you could update your password [11:16] from your profile. [11:19] So if we click on schedule, you can see the student's schedule for the current year. [11:24] You could switch your student up in that upper right-hand corner. [11:27] You can see there's Albert Sample as well as Joanna Sample. [11:30] So if you have more than one student, you could just choose your different student if you want [11:34] it to then switch to see what their schedule was. [11:37] So you'll see the current schedule with the day and the periods there that are listed. [11:45] Under documents, you could throw down the documents. [11:47] there could be some documents that your school has included for you to be able to view as well [11:52] as create a PDF of some examples would be a student schedule or a report card and some schools [11:59] might even choose to do the transcript. So again, this will be available under the documents tool [12:04] under your main menu. [12:10] And it's always good to keep up with your student's attendance. So if you select [12:13] attendance, you'll get your list of courses that your students enrolled in and then you'll be able [12:18] to see the absences as well as the tardies that they currently have. [12:22] If you click on an individual class, you will be able to see that information broken [12:27] down just by that class. [12:30] Here's that example. [12:31] If you view a specific course and click on that course name, it will give you those totals [12:36] for that course. [12:38] It's also going to let you know the date as well as whether it was excused or unexcused. [12:45] You can also view students' attendance by choosing the calendar tool. [12:49] If you click on Calendar, you could view attendance by date. [12:52] So if you see there in that example, if you click on Attendance and you have your calendar [12:57] come up, anything that has a dot underneath the date, it's going to let you know there's [13:01] an attendance event for that date. [13:03] So then you could click on that date and you'll be able to see what class it was for, what [13:09] kind of absence it was, either an absence or a tardy, excused or unexcused. [13:15] All right. [13:16] So that's just another way that you could view attendance. [13:18] So again, you could do it by attendance or clicking on calendar and then viewing it by the date. [13:25] You click on assignments, you can view a list of the assignments the student has completed, [13:30] or what parents will really like, you'll be able to see what's currently missing for your student. [13:35] So when they come home, you can ask them, hey, where are you going to do that assignment? [13:38] You can see the due date that's there. So if you click on any individual assignment, [13:42] you can see the assigned date, the due date, as well as the score grade. [13:46] So the assigned date will tell you when that assignment was created and assigned to the student as well as the due date there. [13:54] Once that grade is posted, you can see down there at the bottom, you'll be able to view that grade the student received for that assignment. [14:03] As well as assignments you can choose grades and when you select grades that's going to show all of your courses and it's going to have the current grades there. [14:11] So it might be in progress grades or your school might just choose to show you and you're only able to view posted grades. [14:19] So again, that's going to be a district in a school decision as far as what's going to be posted in the portal. [14:25] So you can see here in the first example for art, this is an example of standard base grading. [14:30] So if your student has standard base grading, you will be able to see that in the portal. [14:34] And then the bottom example is traditional grading, so you will be able to see your students grade there. [14:39] You also have the option to hide drop classes. [14:43] So maybe your student was in a course. [14:46] You know, for a couple of weeks decided that they wanted to switch to another course [14:49] or maybe the teacher made a recommendation. [14:51] Maybe they were in one level of math and the teacher said, [14:55] hey, they actually could go to an advanced math course. [14:58] You would be able to hide those. [15:00] dropped courses so that you wouldn't see them on your view there. So, under settings, you could select that option. Under gradebook update, you'll be able to see any type of grade that was updated within the last 14 days. So, all of those deal with grade. You've got your assignments, your grades, and your gradebook updates under your main menu, where you can get some grade information for your student. [15:24] The student view of the portal is very much similar to the parent. You might have some options that they're not going to allow you to make [15:32] updates because they don't want the students making those updates, right? They [15:35] want the parents to do them, but they will have the same type of look. They'll [15:39] have that main menu over on the left hand side and the tools available to them. [15:44] They will see their information, their schedule, their courses, their assignments, [15:48] and their attendance as well. So again, it could vary by district as far as what [15:53] you're seeing, but the student portal view is very similar to the parent. They just [15:57] might not be able to make up some of the updates that you're able to make as [16:01] parent. So let me take you in and let's take a look at what it looks like within the portal. [16:09] Give me just a second to sign in and [16:17] I'm going to really hope that the training site is up [16:20] and running. You can see here if I were a new user, I could select a new user here and it would [16:25] prompt me to put in my activation code. But I'm going to put in my parent username and my password [16:30] and I am using a training site and this is all fictitious data. [16:39] So when I first log in, this is what my home page looks like. [16:43] So I can see I have two students under my parent portal account. [16:47] I have Amanda A. Begg and Daphne A. Begg. [16:50] But I'm going to start off here on the right hand side [16:52] and just show you some of the different areas of the parent portal. [16:56] So if I click here on my user menu, I have some setting options. [16:59] So I'm going to go ahead and click on that. [17:01] And the first one I'm going to show you is the notification settings. [17:05] So if I go ahead and I click my arrow here, I could choose to receive notifications. [17:10] So in this case, I have chosen that I want to see if an assignment is scored, but I'm [17:15] only interested in anything that's less than a 70%. [17:18] Now I could update this if I wanted to if I was like, nope, I want my student to have all [17:23] A's. [17:24] So I want to see anything that's less than a 90%. [17:26] So I could update any of this if I needed to. [17:30] All right, if I wanted to see when attendance was updated [17:34] and get a notification, I could check this. [17:36] Also, if documents require a signature, I could choose this. [17:40] If I didn't want to select some options, I could go ahead and uncheck those. [17:44] Any time you make any update here, you want to make sure you're clicking on Save. [17:49] And then it lets you know that your settings have been successfully saved. [17:53] I'm going to come back and I'm going to look at my account settings now. [17:57] If I click on my arrow, here is where I could update my password if I needed to. [18:02] Also, if I had my security email, I could click it here and add that information. [18:08] Remember, you need that security email and the event they need to verify that it is you. [18:13] My contact preferences. [18:15] So I have my cell phone number listed here. I could also have a work phone or another phone. [18:20] I've got my email address and I have a preferred language. [18:24] I have English chosen here. [18:26] If there was a different language, it would be up to your district and school to provide [18:30] that translation. [18:31] So here I do just have English chosen. [18:34] And then down at the bottom I have my preferences that I have for being contacted, broken down [18:41] by text or voice. [18:42] So if there was a priority message that was going out, I'm saying that I want to get a text [18:47] message. [18:47] or an attendance if my student was absent, [18:51] and I want to get a text message, I could do that. [18:53] I could also choose to get a phone call for that. [18:56] This is going to be if you were district of school [18:58] or using the messenger services. [19:00] Alright, so I have some different options here. [19:02] Behavior as well, if my student had a behavior event, [19:05] I could go ahead and get that notification. [19:08] So those are my phone options. [19:09] Again, if I'm going to make any changes, [19:12] I want to click on Save. [19:14] And it's going to let me know that those [19:16] have been successfully changed. I'm going to click here. You could also update your email preferences, [19:21] right? So you do have those options under the contact preferences. If one of your friends or [19:26] neighbors is telling you that they're getting notifications of things and you are not, [19:31] you want to check here within your portal to see what you have selected. If you're still not receiving [19:36] those notifications, you want to reach out to your school and make sure that they have their settings [19:41] correct for you as well, right? We're going to come back and then here's current [19:46] devices. There are no current devices logged in here, so I'm going to come back. All right. [19:51] Next, going to select my notification. If I come here, it's going to give me anything that's in the [19:57] message center and any notification here. So it tells me there was a data breach. This was me [20:02] yesterday changing some information on the training site, but you did see that there is a notification [20:07] So you could come right to your bell to view your most recent notifications. [20:12] I could click here for my message center and this is going to give me my announcements. [20:16] So this is where your district or school could make some different announcements. [20:20] So here in this example, they're like, hey, don't forget to wear your school colors as Friday for your spirit gear. [20:26] So you've got your reminder there. [20:28] We also have some more district announcements here that your superintendents or your leadership might choose to post there. [20:35] My inbox is going to be anything that a teacher might send. [20:39] So a teacher might send you a message you or your student to let them know of upcoming [20:43] events, maybe parent teacher night, or an upcoming due date for a project. [20:49] So that's your message center. [20:51] If I come over here to the top to Infinite Campus, if I click on Infinite Campus, it brings [20:56] me back to my home screen or might what they call landing page in Infinite Campus for my [21:01] portal. [21:01] And then if I come here and click on these three lines, which we call the hamburger, that will just give you some larger screen time there. [21:10] Alright, so I'm going to come here next and we're going to take a look at the calendar tool. [21:15] So if I click on calendar, I can see I have attendance chosen. [21:20] So here you can see we've got some dots that indicates there were some attendance events. [21:25] So if I go ahead and I click on July 18th, it's going to tell me what courses my student was at. [21:31] absent for on that day, and that also lets me know that that was an absent unexcused. [21:36] So if I go to my 24th, I can see here that this one was excused. [21:40] So this might be a reminder for me if I come here and view this, that hey, I need to [21:44] send a note in if my student was absent and they were ill and I may be forgotten to turn [21:49] in a note. [21:50] It's important to note when I'm looking at this, that I'm under Daphne. [21:54] Remember when I was on my homepage, I had two students. [21:57] So if I need to switch to my other student, I can click on my drop down here, and here [22:02] I could select Amanda. [22:04] So I look at Amanda, she is my good girl right, she is never absent, so she has no attendance [22:10] events yet. [22:11] So I'll switch back to Daphne. [22:14] You could also see here from the calendar the schedule, so I can see my student's schedule, [22:19] as well as any assignments. [22:22] Next, we're going to go ahead and click on assignments, and I have some here just a few [22:27] because school has just started so we don't have a lot to the teachers to put in yet, [22:31] but I've got some for accounting and personal finance. These are that have not been completed yet. [22:37] So if I had any that were missing or for my current current term, I can see that information here. [22:43] So go back. [22:47] It's not like me right now. There we go. These are all missing because my student has not [22:51] completed them yet. And then on my current term, it's going to list all of my assignments that I have. [22:56] If I go ahead and click on grades, I'm going to have all of my different courses listed here. [23:02] We don't have any grades in yet because our teachers haven't posted any grades yet because it's [23:06] the beginning of the term. But once we get further into the year, I could look at all terms or I could [23:12] select the different terms. So this is a high school so we can see for first semester and second [23:18] semester, they have the same schedule. If I go ahead and click into third, we can see that their courses [23:23] is changed because there's schedule changes. [23:26] So you'll be able to view your information for your student [23:28] and you can look at it by term. [23:31] All right, if I come back here, if I go to grade book updates, [23:34] if there were any updates within the past 14 days, [23:38] they would be listed here. [23:39] So any teacher updates would be listed for 14 days [23:42] under grade book updates. [23:43] I'm going to click back on assignments real quick. [23:46] Let me click on homework. [23:48] Here you can see the start date and the end date. [23:52] so I've got my due date, and then if I had a grade, you would be able to view that information here. [23:59] So we've got my due date, and I don't have that grade in yet. So I need to tell Daphne [24:04] she needs to get her work done so we can make sure she is on top of things. [24:10] If I scroll down and click on attendance, again, I could see my attendance events. Remember, [24:15] we could see that under calendar, but I can also see it under the attendance tool, [24:19] and it's going to list the absences per class. [24:22] So for accounting one, if I wanted to take a look at this, [24:25] I could choose my arrow here, [24:27] and it's going to give me the absences for that class. [24:29] It's going to break it down by date, [24:31] as well as whether they are excused or unexcused. [24:35] So you could go back and look at the rest of your forces [24:38] if you wanted to. [24:41] A nice feature is the student schedule. [24:44] So I could come here and be my student schedule. [24:46] I have my teacher's name. [24:48] let's go ahead and click on accounting. When I click on that teacher's name and I can come [24:53] here and get their contact information so I can see that Gina Albinac is the teacher. It gives [24:59] me a phone number for her as well as an email so you can have that information under your schedule. [25:08] If fees apply and keep in mind not all districts or schools are going to use fees but if they did [25:14] you could come here to see your fee information. So here I can see that I have [25:19] fees for both Amanda and Daphne. Amanda has a headset that's due. She's got [25:24] $5 balance on that and Daphne has purchased a yearbook and so we have to pay [25:29] that fee. So I could add these items to my cart and then I could make my [25:33] selection and go ahead and complete that payment. Again that's not going to be an [25:38] option that's going to be available to all schools. That was a district decision [25:42] and whether or not they're using that point-of-sale feature. [25:45] Same thing with the school store. [25:48] You could have a school store option [25:50] where you could select either tickets [25:52] to sporting events or maybe some spirit gear. [25:56] So let's check out Harrison High School [25:57] and see what they have available. [26:00] So I've got some course materials, event tickets, [26:04] some spiritware. [26:05] So we'll go ahead and click on the spiritware [26:07] and see our different options. [26:09] So we're going to say we want a t-shirt. [26:11] So once I do this, I could come here, I could choose who is this for, right, and then I could go ahead and choose my size information and add it to my cart and purchase my spirit here. [26:23] So that's a really cool feature. Again, not all district or schools are going to have that option. [26:30] We talked a little bit about the documents that are available. [26:34] So, if we come here under documents here for Daphne, we have the option of the student [26:40] schedule or the North Carolina transcript, so I'm going to go ahead and click on the [26:43] student schedule. [26:47] All right, so I could just view this if I wanted to or I could print this as a PDF, so if [26:52] you wanted to have a hard copy of your student schedule, you could come right here and select [26:57] that information. [26:59] All right, again, remember you can switch your students by coming up to this drop down [27:04] here. And then I could select Amanda and do the same thing. All right. We also have the North [27:09] Carolina transcript. This may or may not be a feature that your school is going to have [27:14] on these awesome options. So they may choose to just print the student schedule, maybe a report card, [27:20] but not a transcript. So you'll just have to wait and see what your district chooses. [27:26] All right. And then there's also the academic plan, the progress plan. So this lets you know [27:32] where your student is with their academic progress. [27:35] So I'm going to go ahead and click on Generate Report and see what we get as an option here. [27:41] So it's going to let you know what requirements your student has completed for graduating, [27:46] where they are with that process. [27:48] So that's a really nice feature within the parent portal that you might have access to switch back to Daphne. [27:57] And here is your message center again. [27:59] This is on your on landing page on your home page when you first log in, but if you need to get back to it, you can also click on that message center tool. [28:09] We're going to take a look now at the more option. [28:13] So I have address information. So if I go ahead and I click on my address information, if I needed to update my phone, I could come here, click on update. [28:23] Great. [28:29] And then I could come down to the bottom and click on update. It tells me that [28:33] my request has been sent, but notice it says it has to go through the review process. [28:38] So realize that when you're making those updates, it does not mean that it's automatically [28:42] going to be changed. It has to be reviewed. So it might be a couple days before you see [28:47] that change reflected within your portal or your school might reach out to you for some [28:52] additional information to make that change. [28:55] Same thing with your address. [28:57] You could come here, make a change to your address, [29:00] and then it's asking you, [29:01] what is the reason for the address change? [29:03] You've moved, or you will be moving, [29:05] or maybe your address information is incorrect. [29:08] Maybe you've noticed that your street name [29:09] is spelled incorrectly, or your street numbers not correct. [29:13] Keep in mind if you make that update, [29:15] your school might ask you for that verification [29:17] of address, right? [29:18] So you might have to provide a lease or a mortgage statement, [29:20] or utility bill with that information. [29:23] Again, if you were to update that, you would get the message [29:26] that your request was received, but it might need [29:30] to be reviewed. [29:31] All right, so I'm going to come back, go back again, [29:35] and we've got behavior. [29:37] If there were any behavior incidents to view, [29:40] you could see them there. [29:41] So we're lucky, Daphne doesn't have any. [29:44] And here's our contact list. [29:46] This is going to give all of my teachers' information [29:50] for my students so I can see I have Amanda and Daphne's contact information for their students [29:55] that they have this year. So if I needed to reach out to them, this is a quick and easy [30:07] All right, [30:12] under demographics, if there were some demographic information, you needed to update, you could click update here, make that selection and choose update at the bottom. Again, that will go through verification process. Your family information is going to be listed here, so anything that is contained within your household, so you will have your members of your household as well as your country. [30:33] contact information. If you needed to update something, you could do so here. So let me [30:38] come here and just see. So for, definitely here we have an emergency priority of three. [30:45] So let's say that was a mistake and we needed to update it. We need to make that mom was [30:49] emergency priority number one. Go ahead and select update. Again, I'm getting that message [30:55] telling me that the request has been received, but that review process has to go through. [30:59] So if I scroll back down, I can see that has not updated yet. [31:03] So the data manager or someone within the school will have to verify that information [31:07] before they update it. [31:11] Come back if lockers are chosen and you're using lockers within the campus portal. [31:17] If your school has selected that, you'll be able to see what locker your student has. [31:21] I'm here. We even have the combination, which that's kind of handy to have, right? [31:25] And it lets you know where the location of the locker is. [31:29] That would be extremely helpful for your freshman, right? [31:32] And then if there were meal benefits, you would also see that information there as well. [31:37] Again, you have your quick links that your district or your school would provide for any [31:41] website that you might need to access or that post information regularly for your student. [31:48] To get back to my home page, my landing page, I can click on Infinite Campus [31:52] and I'm right back where I started. [31:54] When you're here on your landing page, you can also see that you've got your students listed, [31:59] so I have Amanda and Daphne, and I went through the tools over here on the left-hand side, [32:04] but I could click on Daphne and see that I have kind of like a quick view of information. [32:10] I can see where she's enrolled, her grade level, any fees, her schedule, [32:16] any documents that might need attention, maybe there's something that needs to be assigned, [32:20] as well as assignments that are due and any recent updates in the last two weeks. [32:25] So I could use the tools over here on the left or I could just select my student and get a quick view of my student. [32:32] So that's just kind of a general overview of your parent portal and the things that you're going to have access to. [32:39] All right. I'm going to come back. I'm going to get back into our presentation. [32:45] Please let me know if you're not seeing the same thing as me. [32:48] We're going to go ahead and we're going to talk about help information. [32:51] So where do you go if you need some help? [32:53] What are some of the things the most frequently asked questions when it comes to help for the parent or student portal? [33:00] So one of them is why can't I see all of my children? [33:03] So if you're parent, you want to make sure you're using the campus parent and you're not using your campus student account. [33:09] Because if you're using your students account, you're only going to see that one student. [33:13] So you want to make sure you're using your campus parent account. [33:17] and you will have those notifications. You'll be able to switch your student like we saw, [33:22] but you would have to have that portal access that was designated for you. So if you're not seeing [33:28] your students and you have more than one student and you're not using their account, you're using [33:33] your own, please reach out to your school and they will update that portal preference for your [33:39] other student and then they will be visible to you. So if you are using your correct account and you [33:45] You'll only see one of your children or you have two children and you're supposed to [33:49] see three, reach out to your school and we can update that information for you. [33:54] All right, notifications. [33:56] How do you get notifications? [33:57] So we talked about the notifications when we logged into the example of the parent portal [34:03] account where you could choose to get notifications for attendance, behavior or grades. [34:09] So those are available through the mobile app. [34:11] And it's really nice about the mobile app as you can choose to stay logged in when you're [34:16] using your mobile app. [34:17] And then that's going to allow you to get those notifications. [34:20] So you have to enable that on your device, as well as within your settings of your parent [34:25] portal account. [34:26] What's going to trigger a notification, meaning when are you going to get a notification, is going to be [34:31] whenever there's any update to attendance grades or assignments, and you'll get those notifications. [34:37] If for any reason you have all of those settings set up and you're still not getting those notifications, that's because your school or your district has turned off the notification option. [34:47] So if that's the case and you've tried everything and it's still not working, please reach out to your school and then they can let you know the status of that. [34:56] They might have temporarily turned them off or they might not have enabled notifications for parents or students. [35:01] All right, so here's just another example of get opting in or out of text messages. [35:08] This is going to be if your district or school is using the messenger services. [35:12] So this just tells you how you can opt in or out of getting those text messages. [35:20] If you're having username or password issues, you can reset your password. [35:25] So your school can reset your password for you, all right, so you can reach out to them [35:29] or you can choose the forgot your password or user name option. [35:34] If you don't see that as an option, it's because your district hasn't turned it on. [35:39] So again, you could choose to forget your password, user name option, [35:43] or reach out to your school to get your password reset. [35:46] If you do reach out to your school, there's usually a verification process for that, right? [35:50] Unless they happen to know your voice, you're recognizable, maybe you're a volunteer at the school [35:55] so they know who you are, they might reset it for you. [35:57] Otherwise, they might say, hey, we need some type of verification or we need you to come [36:02] into the school so that we can reset that password. [36:05] And that is just to protect the security of your account. [36:09] If you fail to enter your username and password correctly, right, after a few missed attempts, [36:14] you will see a capture, right, where you're going to have to verify that information. [36:17] And this happens to us sometimes because we have so many passwords or in this case where [36:22] you're creating a new account, you might have had every intention of writing down your password [36:26] and forgot to. So you might have this where you're going to have to enter that [36:30] capture information to be able to gain access again. [36:35] If you're getting an error message, check your internet connection. Make sure [36:40] that your district's web portal is not down. Maybe it's not you. Maybe it's [36:43] just the web is down. So you want to make sure if it's your internet's right and [36:48] everything else seems right. You can reach out to your school and say, hey, it's the [36:51] parent portal having issues and they can keep you informed on that. If you continue [36:55] you to get the error, they might recommend that you reinstall the app if you're using your [36:59] mobile device. [37:01] All right, your app menu items are turned off. [37:04] Your school controls what areas of that app are available to you. [37:07] And there are times during the school year that your school might turn it off, right? [37:11] Especially over summer break, they turn that off because they're getting ready to do schedules, [37:16] they're finalizing braids, so a lot of times that is a period of time where you're not [37:20] going to have access to that information might be during other school breaks as well. [37:27] So here's where you can go to get your information to download your app to do the parent portal [37:34] and the student portal. [37:35] You can download from the app store or get it on Google Play and there's also some knowledge [37:39] based articles here to help you with the parent and student portal. [37:44] Here is a great video on the parent portal that will kind of go over all the information [37:48] you've just been shown. [37:49] So, if you need a refresher, I want to go back and see some things. [37:52] You can click here on this video. [37:55] Also wanted to show you the NC SIS website, which will give you some information also [38:01] that you can be. [38:02] So, let me go ahead and click on that. [38:07] And if you come here, you want to scroll down and you're going to want to look at communication [38:12] and resources. [38:13] And these are some resources available to parents. [38:16] So, if you want to scroll down here, we've got some parents and student information here [38:20] on the new SIS. [38:21] So you could come here to stay up to date with anything happening with Infinite Campus. [38:29] All right. If there's any questions and you're wondering what tools you're going to have available or if you're having access and you're having trouble accessing a specific tool, [38:38] please reach out to your school and ask them about it and they can assist you. [38:44] All right. So that is your overview of the Campus Parent and Campus Student Portal accounts. [38:49] We thank you for joining us tonight. I'm going to turn it back over to Matthew. [38:53] Yeah, thank you so much Roy for all that great information Roy if you would put the slide back up one more time and go to the first page. I know sometimes we're using Microsoft teams for tonight's meeting not everyone can get the chat feature. [39:08] So I want to make sure you could get a copy of this presentation. So in just a second will be on that first page and you can grab that short URL. [39:16] And then you can simply go to file, download a copy of this as a PDF or a slide or PowerPoint as well. [39:27] So she's going to get that up for you in just a second. [39:30] Sorry, I'm stuck. [39:32] It's okay. [39:35] All right, I'll tell you what I can try to share. [39:37] We'll see what happens. [39:39] Hold on, never. [39:40] There we go. Sorry, if it's just I was going too fast, I got hungry. [39:43] Very good. [39:43] At the very bottom you see slides and it's a go.ncdpi.gov slash and then there is the link [39:50] that you'll need. [39:51] It was put in the chat but I know everybody not always can get to that chat. [39:55] Here at DPI we thank you so much for being here tonight parents and students to learn more [39:59] about how to use the mobile app and I hope you're all having a great start to your new year [40:04] as a year round school and we look forward to supporting you along this new process. [40:10] As a parent there's nothing greater than having clear communication about what's going on with attendance and grades and so forth [40:17] So I'm excited myself, so I know you will enjoy this as well and we again, we thank you if you have any further questions [40:25] We do ask that you reach out to the school that your children are attending as they continue to build this out and [40:32] Thank you so much again for being here tonight. Have a great evening. Thank you. I'll have a good night
