[1:27] Speaker: Gerald services performed an investigation,
[1:31] and what we found is two storm drains
[1:33] that were stopped up and also a damaged drain pipe.
[1:37] What we did to remediate the issue is we cleaned out
[1:39] those storm drains, wash the lines,
[1:42] we also repaired the damaged storm drain.
[1:44] Went by the day after it had rained,
[1:48] there was no pooling, so we will continue
[1:52] to monitor the area to make sure there are no more issues.

[2:17] The next item on our agenda is an update
[2:21] on the Bellevue Center.
[2:38] Speaker: I would like to introduce first
[2:40] from Memphis we have chief operating officer who
[2:44] is here with us, and also deputy director from the Memphis Parks.
[2:58] Speaker: Bellevue Tennis Center is undergoing renovations
[3:00] and repairs right now, these are indoors in the tennis hut
[3:06] and also around the tennis hut which
[3:09] will result in resurfacing the parking lot,
[3:12] putting an observation deck in, and so far
[3:16] I was there twice last week.
[3:19] They had demolished the bathrooms in preparation
[3:22] to reconfigure for the college, they
[3:27] have also pulled the carpet up in the office area
[3:30] to resurface the flooring and make it all match.
[3:33] They have also removed anything that
[3:37] would prevent them from getting a smooth coat of paint on their.
[3:41] We removed all of our things from the building,
[3:44] we have a pod outside and we will just keep it there until we
[3:49] can move everything back in .
[3:54] We have had summer camp for the last nine weeks that wrapped up
[3:58] on July 31st on Friday, we have moved the children to North
[4:03] Tennis Center which has plenty of room to house all of the kids
[4:06] from Bellevue and on average we've had 50 to 60 kids there
[4:12] a day for the last nine weeks.
[4:15] They are having a great time, we plan on reopening the tennis
[4:21] center at Bellevue in January once the repairs and renovations
[4:25] are complete but we are also starting new programing
[4:29] for our Bellevue participants, including a men's cardio league,
[4:35] a women's league, we have teams that
[4:38] play at a Bellevue transferring there for the time being.
[4:42] Permanent contracts transferred for the time being
[4:49] and we are putting together some more things for children
[4:54] for the spring to host a grand opening at Bellevue
[4:58] and then have them play and show what
[5:01] they've learned over the course of the summer and the fall.
[5:06] Committee Chair: Can you tell me where those other places are?
[5:17] Speaker: Ridgeway road, we also have courts at Frazier,
[5:25] rice community center.
[5:43] We do not have programs in Frasier
[5:47] because that Tennis hut is closed.
[5:49] We hope to have repairs and renovations start
[5:52] on those in the fall, we've Been selected to apply for a grant
[6:06] so that the city doesn't have to bear the cost.
[6:24] Councilwoman Sutton: I want to applaud
[6:32] for what I say was amazing for the children, tennis
[6:37] players, non tennis players, everybody just
[6:42] came across all over Arkansas, everybody was here
[6:47] and it was just amazing to actually see it manifest,
[6:54] come to pass, and all the hard work that you all did.
[7:00] Tennis Memphis parks, all the work done collectively together
[7:06] to make this happen and I'm excited to see
[7:08] it evolve through the years.
[7:11] Our children had an opportunity to see pro tennis players hit
[7:16] with them, and some of us seasoned people also had
[7:20] the same opportunity , so it was just something that was needed.
[7:31] It gave everybody a different perspective on our future,
[7:36] how it should look and what it should look like moving forward
[7:43] .
[7:44] And then we manifest the vision.
[7:45] I'm just looking forward to more tournaments
[7:49] coming at left which because it's a beautiful facility.
[7:53] A lot of money and time was put into that facility
[7:57] for things like this on this spectrum to happen.
[8:00] Secondly, I'm excited about Bellevue
[8:04] and what is going on with the brick and mortar part,
[8:07] the renovation that is happening.
[8:09] I'm glad to hear about the lockers and the bathrooms,
[8:13] the paint.
[8:14] We had a meeting, we sat there and got the colors coordinated
[8:18] correctly to make sure they have the colors in there and that was
[8:26] so important to the director .
[8:33] I'm so glad that was able to happen, and to actually
[8:36] see Bellevue such an amazing tennis center evolve,
[8:41] and what is going to evolve in along with Jesse Turner and all
[8:46] the other extension that we have.
[8:49] This is a long time coming because Bellevue serves downtown
[8:56] and it was a very active community tennis center,
[9:01] just to see it was very unique with their programing
[9:06] because of where it sits in the middle of the heart of South
[9:12] Memphis where our babies can come in and experience tennis .
[9:20] What I want to ask is the CIP dollars come
[9:25] are we looking good with the CIP dollars moving forward?
[9:32] I want to know have you met with the architect .
[9:59] We wanted to make sure the dollars were
[10:02] implemented and set aside for such a facility, so thank you.
[10:05] What does it look like on their part?
[10:11] Speaker: We will be bringing the resolution to council
[10:16] for approval But the future of what sports look
[10:48] like in the park, we will be looking to enhance it even more
[10:52] not only this fiscal year, but in the coming Councilwoman

[11:03] Tennis Memphis is evolving into something
[11:08] that I thought I would never see for the many years I've
[11:11] been playing tennis and I hope we
[11:12] can continue playing this partnership
[11:15] with the city of Memphis and make
[11:16] sure we set an example for our future and our children,
[11:19] this is a legacy for them, and we
[11:21] will be able to pass the torch on to them,

[11:38] of the courts, the netting and the resurfacing?
[11:45] Speaker: That's what we will have the stakeholder meetings

[12:10] to the welcome area, the entry color schemes and locker room

[12:37] Before we wrap up, we are winding down some projects.

[13:03] that we have going on, the Accelerate Memphis dollars.
[13:07] This is Frazier Park, right outside of Ed Rice.
[13:14] Speaker: Some of these videos we've taken over the past few
[13:18] weeks, there has been more progress since then and we have
[13:22] a condensed timeline that shows the final product .
[13:33] Speaker: The pavilion is back there in the back
[13:35] looking all illustrious.
[13:42] Speaker: There's been 16 parking spots added to Glenview as part
[13:45] of this project , and that is a Glenview Park pavilion.
[13:56] Here we have Pine View Hill Park,
[14:01] this is one of the larger playgrounds
[14:03] that's Being constructed.
[14:07] Also, the landscaping improvements as well as
[14:13] parking improvements adjacent to the golf course, which
[14:16] has really seen a renaissance.
[14:18] We had a record number of rounds at Pine Hill
[14:22] this last year so thank you to Councilman Ford
[14:25] for his leadership on that particular project,
[14:29] and a record July.
[14:34] Gooch Park Pavilion, this park means a lot to many of us
[14:39] for a number of reasons, certainly we
[14:41] want to acknowledge the work of the late Joanne
[14:44] Street of Hollywood University, better known as Hub.
[14:49] This is a pavilion project we work with the community
[14:54] on, as you can see accessibility improvements
[14:57] and here we have Westwood Pool.
[15:01] Essentially a couple weeks ago, we have since
[15:04] continued the cleaning, we've got inspections set for today,
[15:09] so we are hoping to hit substantial completion
[15:12] and we will be working alongside Councilman
[15:14] Ford for the grand opening celebration,
[15:17] but certainly Westwood residents and community,
[15:20] all the stakeholders are really excited
[15:22] about this particular project for a lot of reasons.
[15:27] The Park pavilion is being constructed in South Memphis
[15:30] area on Elsie Road adjacent to the existing playground,
[15:35] we are really excited about this project
[15:38] as well which is going to provide
[15:40] more opportunities for gathering and play in South Memphis.
