[0:13] James, did you get my email? [0:18] » Well, I just asked if you wanted to like brainstorm together. [0:24] » Okay. >> Okay. [0:27] » No, that's fine. I just didn't know if that was an [0:31] accurate email address. And that's fine. [0:51] It is 4:30 on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, and I call this meeting of the [0:57] Marine Historic Preservation Commission to order. Roll call. Blaine Johnston [1:01] here. Haley Stewart >> here. [1:04] » James Mon >> here. [1:06] » Heather Jakamo. >> Patrick Giddings [1:10] » here. Ken Fes >> here. [1:12] » Harold Wilson. Thank you. Adoption of the agenda. [1:17] » Mr. Chair, I move that we adopt the agenda. [1:20] » And I second that. >> Motion by Commissioner Giddings, second [1:23] by Commissioner Freeze for adoption of the agenda. All those in favor say I. [1:27] » I. >> Opposed. [1:29] » Motion carries. Thank you. Uh approval of our minutes from our [1:34] December 12th special meeting of historic preservation commission. [1:38] » Mr. Chair, I u move that we uh adopt those minutes. [1:43] » Chair, I move to second that >> motion by Commissioner Freeze, second by [1:46] Commissioner Mom for approval of our minutes of our December 12th meeting. [1:51] All those in favor say I. >> Opposed? None. Motion carries. Thank [1:56] you. Uh new business. Um as required by city code, we are to elect chair and [2:03] vice chair uh first meeting of the calendar year. So, that's our first rule [2:08] of business today. Um, if the commission sees fit, I'll serve as another deer as [2:14] chairman. Do we have any other nominees? [2:21] Hearing none, nominations are closed. [2:25] All those in favor of having Blaine Johnson serve as chairman for Mur HBC [2:29] say I. >> I. [2:31] » I opposed. Hearing none. Thank you. nominations for vice chair. Commissioner [2:37] Giddings has decided to step down from his that position for the year. So, [2:42] we'll accept nominations for vice chair. >> Mr. Chair, I nominate Ken Fes to be vice [2:48] chair. [2:52] » I second the nomination. >> Motion by Commissioner Giddings, [2:55] seconded by Commissioner Wilson to nominate Commissioner Fes to serve as [3:00] vice chair for 2026. All those in favor say I. [3:05] » I opposed. None. Thank you. Congratulations. [3:09] » Thank you. [laughter] >> Um we'll go on to item three, approve [3:14] projects consultant proposals for the water tower national register [3:18] nomination. Um so I think everybody read the email that [3:24] Cassandra put out um to go through that. Uh, Cassandra, do you want to bring that [3:30] up just so everybody could see that force, please? [3:36] » Mr. Chair, the system looks a bit different and I'm having a little bit of [3:39] trouble pulling up the right window. Um, [3:44] this is strange. Um, [3:50] I guess I can screen share my whole screen. [3:58] Does that work? No. [4:23] No, we can just go through the points if you're having problems. Let us [4:29] » I'm so sorry that this is I'm It's not letting me screen share from [4:34] the PDF window. Um, [5:02] well, of course, I have it up on my screen and it's not sharing for you [5:06] Um, I apologize, but I know the [5:09] commissioners do have the scoreeet in, um, I sent them through email this [5:13] morning. Yep. >> There was a pretty clear um, top pick by [5:17] almost every single commissioner for the Arow Rock Group's proposal um, by quite [5:22] a bit. Um, they averaged uh, 96 points out of 100, whereas the next closest was [5:27] 88 points out of 100. [5:35] And their proposal cost was remind me again [5:44] 475. [5:52] » Sounds like someone's double-checking to pull it up. [5:55] » Yep. [6:04] That was 7475. Is that what I heard? [6:35] their official total came down to $7,475. [6:45] And with that, um, because of some work that Miss Shifter [6:51] did on behalf of the commission, um, we have that [6:57] paid for by another firm, um, as part of a agreement between developers are on a [7:04] 10mi project. It's going to cover up uh, part of a canal and a pre-application [7:09] meeting with Shipo. Um the developers agreed to pay HBC $7,500. [7:17] So they our our cost to do that has been covered by a developer. [7:22] So but with that we still have to approve um tag to do the work and [7:29] Michler start the contract and pay and approve an expenditure not to exceed [7:35] 7475. [7:40] » Mr. Chair, >> Mr. Giddings, [7:42] » in our last meeting, did we outline exactly what this was, what it's for, [7:46] and what our process was? I think maybe for the record, we need to back up a [7:52] couple of steps and explain what it is we're doing here. [7:56] » The the request is I guess it was start back [8:00] with Shipo that we got notification from Shipo that they would like to see the [8:05] water tower listed on the national registry. So, Shipo is behind the [8:09] nomination for that. So, um they they determine it's eligible for [8:16] listing. So, our what we'll do is we'll hire the consultant to do all the [8:21] paperwork, leg work to have the nomination ready for us, then send to [8:26] Shipo for Shipo to review, then to send on to National. [8:31] » Correct. And so, an RFP was sent out and we had four responses. Correct. [8:36] » Correct. Miss Schiffler, go ahead. >> Mr. Chair and commissioners, um I can [8:39] speak to that. Yes, I um Shipo uh sent me a list of consultants. Um I sent it [8:44] out to I think about six different consultants. I gave them uh timeline [8:48] information about the water tower. Um I didn't include the uh anticipated budget [8:53] initially, but I got some questions about that. And so I responded to [8:56] everyone to let them know um the same sort of details so everyone had the same [9:00] information and then uh created a scoreeet rubric for all of the [9:04] commissioners which you all have uh scored. Thank you very much. Um [9:08] tabulated the results and that's where we came up with the um the um tag was [9:13] the highest uh consultant. Does that does that cover? [9:17] » Yeah. Yeah. I just think I just think we need the record, right? [9:29] So, do we have a motion to have [clears throat] Tag start the work? [9:38] And you can phrase it however you want. Well, since TAG was the the high scorer, [9:45] uh I then I guess I would make the motion that since TAG was the high [9:49] score, then I would make the motion that that um our vote is that TAG would be [9:55] the ones that do the work. I I'm presuming, Miss Shiffler, that the it [10:00] the final decision rests with the city of Meridian since the contractual [10:05] obligation is between the city of Meridian and TAG. Is that correct? Yes, [10:09] but the city will go with what the what the commission um the highest scoring [10:14] applicant that the commission uh or what they recommend in this case. [10:18] » Then I make a motion that we recommend that TAG do this work. [10:21] » Okay. >> And I second it. [10:24] probably need for the record to not only have them do the contract or do the [10:30] contract with tag, but ultimately approve an expenditure not to exceed the [10:35] $7,500 7475 because that'll all be done this year. [10:41] Correct. And so my motion would be that it [10:44] » the cost through tag would not exceed the 7475 that tag put in their [10:50] submission. >> Okay. And I second that. [10:53] » All right. Motion by Commissioner Gidding, second by Commissioner Freeze [10:57] to have contracts signed with the Yout Group and for an [11:03] expenditure not to exceed the 7475 per their proposal. All those in favor [11:08] say I. >> I. [11:10] » Opposed? Hearing none. Carries. Thank you. Um we will go on to next item. Um [11:17] provide review provide comment. Um, this came about. I was just I get the [11:23] applications for the city and I saw this application on the um, city's website. [11:29] So, I kind of did a quick check on it. The properties are listed in Icris. So, [11:34] we're going to have some work on this later on. But anyway, um I drove out [11:39] past the site and I didn't see anything first glance of of of [11:46] historical significance per se that we want to try and and save. But if you [11:51] looked at the packet that came out, there is a a tutor home on that property [11:57] that's got some nice character on it. Um at least document it and get some good [12:02] photographs of that. Um the application will go before the city [12:09] um in March. Um Mr. Ner, are you there? [12:20] I don't see him. He was there earlier. >> He is online, but um [12:25] » I am okay. >> Oh, there he is. [12:28] » Camera issues, but my sound is working. >> Bill, I've got a question for you. Yes, [12:33] sir. >> Um, on this application, [12:37] » um, can [12:40] I'm just say me as as chair of the commission go before the the city [12:45] council at this time of application and ask for u approval from the landowner [12:50] for us to document at least some of the buildings, the tutor home that's there [12:56] uh, prior to approval. Is that possible? >> You what? You're asking if you can go to [13:03] the council to ask them to go to the property owner to ask for permission. [13:08] » Correct. As part of a condition of approval. [13:11] » Um, well, I don't think you need the [13:15] council's permission to go to the property owner and ask them for [13:18] permission to take pictures. I think the commission can do that, [13:24] » but we just need to get a hold of the land owner then and get permission. We [13:27] just we just can't trespass. But we can go ask for Absolutely. Yeah. No, you [13:31] can't trespass, but I don't think you need the council's permission to do [13:34] that. >> Okay. [13:36] » You just want to double check. >> Yeah. Yeah, you can do that. [13:40] » Okay. >> The council ultimately will appro has [13:42] Well, um I think the council do we I'll have to [13:47] ask Cassandra. Do we normally put the these contracts on the council agenda [13:50] for approval or because the commission has a budget? [13:57] » Mr. Mary, sorry. Could you repeat the question? Yeah, I don't recall if we [14:00] normally put the council put the contract like for tag on the council [14:05] agenda for final approval or because the commission has their own budget they can [14:09] approve it. I don't recall. >> Not typically. Um [14:15] does the commission want professional photos for these or is this um something [14:21] that a commissioner might like to do if if we had permission to take photos? I [14:27] think it's just something a commissioner could go out and take you to do it. [14:30] » Yeah. >> Yeah. I've done a lot of architectural [14:33] type photo photography in the past. >> As long as you have permissions from the [14:36] property owner, it's fine. I mean, I would just tell them I think you've done [14:39] that before, Blaine, like you've done that when we were doing the um when we [14:45] were doing the stuff with the property, the vag [14:48] with the silos, but I I hit that one with the preapp meeting. So, I I was [14:52] able to ask them directly at the time. >> Yeah, that's true. Um, but yeah, if what [14:58] we'll do is I'll just have Miss Shiffler write him a letter, email it if [15:03] possible, asking permission for a commission member to go out and take [15:06] photographs if that would work. >> Um, and Mr. Chair and Commissioners, we [15:10] do actually have the planner on the project at our meeting here. Um, [15:14] and um, is that something? >> Yeah, Nick, that you would be able to [15:19] ask the property owner if um, the commissioners could go out and take some [15:23] photos. Yeah, I can certainly ask the property owner um for them. [15:28] I'll ask the applicant and I'll ask the current property owners. Um do you know [15:32] if it's on is a house that you guys are discussing on the Choi property or the [15:36] Thrusten property? >> I'd have to go back and look at the [15:40] Well, the address is 4925. As I was going through the application, [15:44] I wrote that applica that address, but it's the tutor home that's that's on [15:49] that. So 4920, it's at 4925 Franklin. [15:54] » Yes. >> So that property is actually not [15:56] included on this application and will be remaining Oh. [16:00] » as a county property until the lady who lives there. Um [16:04] » Okay. That was just including that whole >> correct. Yes, it was. So they put a [16:10] concept plan over it to show how it could integrate in the future. So that's [16:13] probably what you saw. >> That's what I saw. [16:15] » It's the two properties just to the west of that threat included in the [16:18] application. >> All right. [16:19] That makes a lot more sense. So um never mind. [16:27] Um any other discussion on that um development application [16:37] hearing? None. Uh we can go on to old business [16:42] um elongated coin machines. I have sent out another [16:48] text emails to Josh Evers. Let me double check real [16:53] quick before I say anything. I have not heard back yet on making sure that he [16:57] wants to be the sponsor on that. Um, [17:02] Commissioner Freeze, I don't remember what the price of that was. Do you [17:05] remember right off hand? >> Um, I think with uh shipping, delivery, [17:10] the whole thing, I think it was around 6,000. [17:12] » Okay. Can we hold off for one more month [17:16] before we make a decision? Sure. >> I just want to I want to make sure that [17:19] that Mr. Evers is in agreement with what we do want to do and probably need to [17:24] get it in writing. Um that he will be the sponsor just to cover our bases. [17:30] So, um with that, uh social media sub apologize to the commission. I slipped [17:38] through this one passed on me. So, give me another month to get some people [17:43] together to form that subcommittee and so we get started on doing that. Um, and [17:49] then Miss Shiffler, what's the time frame on the ADA requirements for social [17:56] social media accounts for the city? Do you remember? [17:59] » Mr. Sure. And commissioners, I'm already um attempting to do everything in [18:02] compliance with it currently, even though the um required requirements [18:06] don't go into effect until April 1, but we are already doing everything we can. [18:10] » Okay. Thank you. Um [18:14] with that, we'll go on to planning for drug preservation month in May. Um [18:22] Commissioner Wilson, you had some information. I lost it. [18:28] uh too much paperwork. Um, [18:32] Commissioner Wilson had some thoughts. Um, we also had some thoughts. Um, the [18:39] Idaho chapter of the Oregon Trails Association sent Miss Schiffer a [18:42] newsletter on old Oregon trails through the area. And [18:48] I thought that might be an interesting topic um for preservation month if they [18:55] could do a presentation here at city hall when we do a walking tour. Um [19:01] Commissioner Wilson, what were your thoughts on on what you presented? [19:05] » Yeah. Well, um these are just ideas that I've been thinking of over the past [19:09] month. And so obviously just kind of some different ways that we could [19:14] involve the community in history month as well as trying to tie it to America [19:20] 250 in some way. >> Okay. [19:22] » I don't think all of these idea uh there's five that I suggested. Um I [19:27] don't think all of them maybe do as good of a job, but uh one that I would say [19:32] I've been following up a little more on is number three, Voices of Meridian. Um, [19:37] I've been in contact with a few people who are uh in their late 70s or early [19:42] 80s who grew up here in Meridian. And I thought it might be a nice event to just [19:48] have them talk about what life was like when they were very very young growing [19:53] up here and how it's changed. Um, now I don't know. I think that could be [20:00] part of a a celebration of just, you know, how people's lives have changed [20:05] for good or for sometimes not so good. And then um how we need to um kind of [20:15] collect those ideas before they're lost and um that's part of the commission [20:20] maybe in their mission. Um, I I I'm trying to remember I think how to [20:27] phrase this. The qu I know the Bass Museum has gone around and they had one [20:32] of their staff visit Bass community members all over the the area and they [20:39] videotaped them and got oral history from the Bass community. Is it are you [20:43] thinking audio and vis on video just audio file or what are you thinking? [20:48] » Yeah. Well, I I was thinking um if we're having events in in May to celebrate [20:53] that, it would be like a panel um that they would come and people could ask [20:58] questions about what things were like. They could have some prepared comments [21:02] um and we could sponsor that at a location around here somewhere. [21:06] » Okay. >> But I also like that idea of recording [21:09] for posterity. >> Yeah. Yeah. To have something in in for [21:13] record for what it's like. Um, so we're not relying on our me memories to do [21:17] stuff. >> Um, [21:21] I'm trying to think, would you think they'd be if we get [21:27] two or three people down here to city hall? Um, [21:33] and and we've done it both ways. We we've had [21:36] events during the middle of the week here at city hall since it's open. We've [21:41] had conference rooms that we can get in and talk. the last couple years we've [21:44] just had our walking tours and stuff outside. So, we'd have if if we want to [21:49] do something inside, probably have to do it in the middle of the week during that [21:53] during preservation month. So, um we'd have to pick an evening and do that if I [21:58] have I think it'd be a great idea if we get two or three people down here talk [22:02] to us. >> Well, yeah. And so, that that's why I [22:05] said I've made a little headway on this. I've I my first of all, my father-in-law [22:10] grew up in Meridian and he's 84. He's not a real big talker, but I think [22:15] I might be able to convince him to come. And his family has a lot of history in [22:20] the the dairy and dairy part of Meridian's history. And [22:25] then um he knows folks, they still have high school reunions for Meridian High [22:31] School. I think it's like their 60th or 70th reunions or [22:36] » mine's my 50th is coming up, so I don't want to hear it. So, uh, so he put me in [22:41] contact with another, uh, lady who moved here when she was 14, uh, Neva Timonss, [22:47] and, um, she's really excited, actually, to share her thoughts about growing up [22:53] here in Meridian. So, there's probably three or four people that I could gather [22:57] myself, and I I bet someone else on the commission would know others as well. [23:02] Oh, I could gather two or three dozen people who who grew up here who are [23:09] pushing [clears throat] 70ish. Um, >> yeah, [23:11] » we're 70th, Patrick. >> Yeah. [23:14] » Well, I'm talking about people our age. [laughter] [23:18] » Um, at the um what's the branch of the library down here? [23:22] » Oh, Unbound. >> Unbound. Mhm. [23:25] » They have a room or two rooms, I think, where they can do podcasts, [23:31] » depending on how serious we wanted to be about this. We might be able to partner [23:35] with the library and we might be able to create um I don't remember what it's [23:40] called, but it's like living recordings of people, things that could last [23:44] forever. We wouldn't have to do it here at city hall. We could do it there. And [23:49] um if somebody really wanted to, you know, take this on as a project, [23:54] » we could just do it as an ongoing thing. >> I think that's a great idea. We do [24:01] ongoing. >> I recently on Facebook had a [24:04] conversation with a member of the Davis family. They had Davis Foods down here [24:08] where the where the um youth ranch is >> youth ranch is now. And I just had a [24:13] great conversation with a member of the Davis family. That was my first real [24:17] paying job back when I was 16 years old. And uh there there's you would be [24:23] surprised how many people once in our walking tour I ran into a member of the [24:27] Calgone family and it was they had Calgone's floral here and so there's [24:33] lots of people around Meridian who could tell stories [24:36] » about Meridian back in the day. >> I think a live panel discussion would be [24:40] great. >> Oh yeah, something like that would be [24:42] awesome. >> Is is Unbound open? Can we get in on an [24:46] evening? >> Um, [24:47] » more than likely. >> I don't know, but I guess [24:49] » so. More than likely we could do an evening. Um, [24:55] my biggest question is h I guess a question and also a suggestion [25:01] is um how do we continue to share these stories once we've preserved them, [25:07] right? Like the goal here is to preserve these living stories. Um, and so I [25:12] wonder if we could put the museum in here to use towards that. Um, what that [25:20] would look like could come in a variation of things. [25:22] » Right. Exactly. That's I I think uh in my mind it reminded me I think PBS does [25:29] that they have living stories and uh I wonder if maybe the Meridian Library [25:34] District if we could partner with them um because [25:39] the history center here is run by the Meridian Library District and Unbound [25:45] and they're um you know their their I don't know what they call it but you can [25:49] do podcasts upstairs there. they could do that and we might be able to partner [25:54] with them where these living histories could be kept on their website and then [26:01] you know they would be there forever for people instead of so something like a [26:06] panel discussion is great but like you say how do you preserve that so that [26:11] it's not just a one-time event where where it's lost that would be totally [26:16] awesome to be able to preserve that. What if um if we had the panel [26:21] discussion, we can obviously record that when it happens so that we get to keep [26:24] that, right? >> Um what if during May we had an [26:27] interactive way for anyone to come in whether it's in the museum or the [26:31] library and just share their story, write their name and email [26:34] [clears throat] down and then they can send in photos. Uh we can start posting [26:37] those to the social media account after so that we have like their voice over [26:40] and then a couple photos um that they shared in like a carousel. Uh that way [26:44] anyone can just come do it. Maybe grab a piece of candy on their way out for [26:48] bringing their kids in or something. So that way we get people that are [26:51] » 85 to five uh and we'll get a good array of places. [26:54] » Yep. That would be awesome. >> And it wouldn't have to be the craziest [26:58] audio. I mean, obviously it'd be preferred to have the nice um things [27:02] that they use at the library. But if we set it up here, um I'm not sure what [27:05] sort of tech we'd use, but anything works. [27:08] » That would be awesome. Um I I guess I guess my decision my my [27:13] thinking is um is this something we want to go forward with for preservation [27:20] month so we can get started on it now? Um gives us [27:25] three months to get everything planned before May [27:31] » to do so. >> Well, I like this voices and meridian [27:34] concept. I I think this is a great idea. It's something that [27:40] » something that some of the old-timers in Meridian, I think, could probably get [27:43] behind. >> So, so let's do this. If if you guys are [27:47] in favor, um Mr. Chair, [27:52] » before you go forward, may I address Cassandra for a second? [27:56] » Yes, >> Sandra. um for a project like this and [28:00] the planning of a project like this and for [28:06] meeting to make sure a project like this happens. [28:10] What so that we're in compliance with sharing [28:14] what work we do with the public. If per say me and another person on the council [28:20] wanted to go through a proposal and like work out the next steps of this, how [28:24] would we have to go about that? [28:29] Um, that's a good question because as you're talking through some of these [28:32] ideas, I am thinking about um what's going to be required of staff. Um, I [28:36] think there this sounds like a a fairly high technology sort of project and [28:41] dealing with um audio and video recording things which I'm um my skill [28:48] level is pretty mid [laughter] pretty mid level. Um, so and I we're not [28:54] really able to ask like it for much support. So I I am [28:59] I'm a little bit hesitant um in terms of what the commission might expect of like [29:04] staff um to to do in this. So I c [29:09] » can we I guess first step can we go go to the library district and ask them if [29:14] they would like to partner with us for the project. So that that's where I was [29:19] headed with with my suggestion. If you guys want to reach out with the library [29:22] district, say this is our thought. This is what we'd like to do. [29:25] » Would you guys like to partner with us? If so, can we use Unbound or can we use [29:30] part of your staff or whatever for the audio visual portion of of this program? [29:36] And then like and then present. It's going to be ongoing. If we can do a [29:40] couple this year going on down the line, keep recording these for the history of [29:45] Meridian. Yeah, Chair. Um, Chair Johnson, I do [29:50] think that's a really good idea. I And Cassandra, I I empathize with all the [29:54] work you're doing and thank you for all the work you do. I would say that if we [29:59] do this, it it should be um our work that we get that set up. I have also [30:05] resources at the College of Western Idaho. I know the um you know, the [30:09] professors that teach marketing and communications and they have equipment [30:12] that does this type of stuff. That might be something great that students would [30:16] like to do. >> Extra credit. [30:18] » Exactly. So, I think there are several ways we could just um we could [30:23] investigate that. I think the library is also really good obviously resource. [30:28] » Then I suppose let's do this. If you want to check with your sources at [30:34] college, Commissioner Giddings, if you want to check with library district. [30:37] Yeah, I'll just I'll just go over to Unbound and ask [30:41] » and ask them and then we can have report back by next month and then if we have [30:46] let's say if we have four people we want to have discussions with during May. [30:51] » I think we have four people here during May [30:54] » we can ask qu I think it's going to be a good program for us yeah to do. [30:58] » You had a question. >> No, I saw Cassandra Graham going okay. [31:05] Um I think on on the city's end it's just partly because the ADA compliance [31:11] or just like city branding and sort of things and how we present something. Um [31:14] it does all have to be reviewed by staff to put out there. Um but it is it is [31:20] something that the commission if the commission is able to do it and figure [31:23] out a lot of the logistics and the tech um then yeah you could definitely move [31:27] forward and do this. >> Okay. Um, I guess one example I might [31:31] just put out there that sort of makes me a little um the the one example is the [31:37] like the walking tour on the phones is um really fantastic, but I haven't had [31:42] um a former commissioner set that up, but I haven't really been able to do [31:45] much on the back end. So, that hasn't really changed or anything a lot. And [31:49] so, um that's that's kind of an example of like a technology sort of thing that [31:53] is long-standing and continues to run. But I um haven't had a lot of I haven't [31:58] um been able to do a lot of edits or updates. So just thinking about like how [32:01] to make this a sustainable project that doesn't need um that's able to kind of [32:06] continue to function. >> How does this change if Meridian is the [32:09] Meridian library is the publisher of the project? So let's say we help collect [32:14] the videos, but what if they're the ones who publish said videos or said content? [32:21] » Yeah. Then I think it would just um then it would kind of be their staff and them [32:26] that would have to review it as it's being from them or it's you know if it's [32:29] a joint project then it's kind of like both both entity staff kind of has to [32:35] » I think maybe step one is just do some homework and be able to report back next [32:39] month and >> because right now I don't know if we [32:41] know what we don't know so we'll do some homework. [32:45] » Yeah, I'm definitely willing to to do that. [32:48] » Okay. Um, one other thing I would just like to mention, um, to help maybe with [32:54] what Cassander's workload is, um, we have a very robust, um, internship [33:00] program at College of Western Idaho and outside organizations, especially [33:04] nonprofits or state sponsored organizations can ask for, you know, our [33:09] students to come and learn like if they're a marketing major or in want to [33:13] be in nonprofit um, and spend time every week helping support the things you do, [33:19] Cassandra. So, if you want to talk further about that offline, [33:24] » I have actually looked extensively at getting interns, but we we could talk [33:27] about that offline. It's it's >> more complicated [33:29] » and more challenging than facility. >> I'm glad to support that though. [33:33] » Okay. [33:37] Um, so you got your tasks, so we'll report back next month and hopefully [33:43] we'll have some information and we can move forward. Sorry, away from the [33:47] microphone. move forward for preservation month. Um, [33:52] I would still like to, if possible, Miss Schiffler, if the people from Idaho [33:59] Trails could give us a little presentation. [34:03] » Yes. >> If it's a backup for future or something [34:05] like that, but if we could get some information from them um [34:10] on what they could do at a future time. >> Um, yes. So, Mr. Mr. Chair and [34:16] commissioners, I um I sent that newsletter out that I have the printed [34:20] copy of from the Oregon Trails Association. So, I talked to their [34:23] president um who gave um a presentation to the metal detector club that Ken is a [34:29] part of recently and said it was great. Um so, I asked him if he could do that [34:33] presentation for us. He's very willing. He's um he's a speaker that's been doing [34:37] this for the Idaho Humanities Council for a while. So, he has like an hourong [34:40] presentation. um an hourlong presentation is kind of long for giving [34:44] it to the commission but is also would be happy to do it um for the public. So [34:49] um I sort of put some tentative dates in there. He could come to the commission [34:52] to do a shorter like 20 minute presentation on the March meeting and [34:57] then he's willing to do um one in May for preservation month. But we do want [35:02] to um he has a lot he he was hoping to like nail down dates if there are dates [35:06] happening sooner rather than later. So, I did put um tenatively March uh or May [35:11] 16th during preservation month, which is when you do the walking tour. So, it [35:14] could be the hour before or the hour after the walking tour. Um he could do a [35:19] presentation in the in the meeting rooms A and B before the walking tour if [35:23] that's of interest. >> Okay. [35:26] » But if it is, we should we should let him know sooner rather than later. [35:34] We can't do both, which is Well, we could do both, I suppose. [35:38] » Why can't we do both? >> We could do both. [35:40] » I think we could do I think we could do both. [35:41] » We could do both. Um because there's no reason why we can't do two programs in [35:46] May. Um [35:50] have ours one week and then have his another week or something like that. So, [35:57] um, if he could do the presentation in March and then we'll figure out a date [36:02] in May that he can come down and do an hourlong presentation. So, I think I [36:07] think what Commissioner Wilson wants to do and his [36:11] ideas and his they all tie together as the people that formed the community. [36:16] So, um, I think we can tie the two together and it all goes with the [36:20] America 250 thoughts. So, [36:26] We'll do that. [36:31] » Shall I tell him to keep May 16 on his calendar? [36:34] » Let's keep May 16th open for him and then we'll we'll plan a date that we can [36:39] have um our oral histories down here. Yeah. [36:50] » Um, >> speaking of the walking tours, I know [36:53] this isn't on the meeting, but we're talking about the walking tours and [36:56] May's preservation month. You'll notice all the commissioners, um, we did get [37:00] new binders printed from TAG. They did an update. They added a table of [37:03] contents. They added two sites that were not on the walking tour before. So, for [37:07] new commissioners, this is your your guide to giving the walking tours. I [37:11] think the whole walking tour is a little over two hours. So, um commissioners can [37:14] kind of pick and choose sections, but that's uh some some homework reading for [37:19] you as you think about leading your own walking tour later this year. [37:23] » So, yeah. So, that's the other thing for well, we'll talk about meeting topics. [37:27] So, yeah, we'll start planning our our walking tour dates um next month. [37:33] So, thank you for this, Miss Schiffer. Appreciate it. um SOP for coordination [37:39] of HPC and current planning update. Do you have anything else for us? [37:44] » I did have a nice update. Uh when I gave the presentation to you about that um [37:49] new SOP, one of the major issues of it is that it was relying on old data. So [37:54] actually um thank you Alexis, our Shipo CLG coordinator. Um, we got a meeting [38:00] between our GIS people and it does look like we're going to be able to um I [38:04] haven't heard an update, but I think we're going to be able to um get updated [38:08] data with um the Shipo's IIR system. So, that's great news. [38:12] » Okay, [38:15] perfect. [38:19] Any other topic there discussions on that, [38:21] » Mr. Chair? >> Yes, sir. May I open the committee for [38:25] discussion about America 250 and any new ideas for how we want to plan around [38:30] that >> for our preservation month? [38:33] » Is is that all tied together? >> Yeah. [38:35] » Okay. Perfect. Okay. So that >> so [38:40] with that we will go on to our special workshop [38:45] in conference room. >> All right. [38:50] For anyone online, this next portion of the meeting will be in person only. So, [38:55] signing off from the online portion. Thank you. [38:58] » Thank you.
