Um I'm McKenzie Thompson representing
[1:43] the Nantucket Lighthouse School um for
this sign proposed sign. Um we are
[1:49] looking to do a
[1:53] 53 by 8-in um
horizontal sign, which would essentially
[1:59] be replacing the existing sign.
Um this MAST sign shown on the screen.
[2:05] Ours would be slightly longer, but
slightly um less wide
[2:11] to make up for the amount of words that
we have there. Um the Nantucket
[2:17] Lighthouse School is what would we would
be displaying on the sign.
[2:21] Um we would be looking to do
use the kind of historic Nantucket
[2:29] Collection paint samples from Marine to
do this. So, with white as a background
[2:34] and then that Newport blue as the um
lettering as well as the edge banding.
[2:42] Um we don't plan to copy the scalloping
that's on the existing sign.
[2:49] Those like scalloped edges, we plan to
just do a very straightforward
[2:53] rectangle. Um we've got a few quotes
from on island as well as off island um
[2:59] with
that we're hoping to move forward with
[3:02] as soon as we can once we kind of
potentially get approval here. I do just
[3:07] also want to mention this um
fence that it's on is under 5 ft. I know
[3:13] that there's like regulations around the
size based on the the height of the
[3:17] fence and I did just want to reiterate
that that's under 5 ft.

I had a conversation with the property

apparently she has in her lease with all
[5:28] the tenants to go through the sign
council process and
[5:33] adhere to the regulations and
she
[5:37] didn't realize that they weren't being
adhered to until she got this
[5:42] second ticket and um
Yeah, so we had a really good
[5:47] conversation. I said, know, you really
need to submit a master sign plan moving
[5:50] forward and maybe it would behoove you
to attend a meeting.
[5:54] Um, maybe ask some questions if you like
of the council members.
[5:59] But, um, you know, I stressed the fact
that the next
[6:02] violation would be a $300 fine per day.
So, um, kind of got her attention, but
[6:09] um,
you know, she wasn't aware that
[6:14] of all the extra signage.
And, um, I had to kind of clarify all
[6:20] the
the last or the first citation I sent,
[6:24] um, with all the logos and explained the
definition of a sign and how it attracts
[6:29] attention and whether it be a logo or if
or, you know,
[6:34] bow decorations around the door or what
have you, um, that those are considered
[6:40] signs.
So, it was a good conversation and
[6:44] hope to hear from her
at the beginning of the season next
[6:48] year.
And and that was basically it.

for me. I'm a little behind in some of
[7:02] the things that you all sent me. I was
just trying to catch the low-hanging
[7:06] fruit cuz you know, the proliferation of
the freestanding signs is out of control
[7:11] this summer.
So, I was just trying to tackle all of
[7:15] that a lot of that and a lot of
education. So, there's a lot of red
[7:19] still that I just haven't gotten to.
Um, you know, between fine violations
[7:25] and HDC violations, it's been
very busy summer.
[7:32] » Yeah, I mean, I think, um,
you know, some of the the players who
[7:37] like the pop-ups and the new operations
that may or may not understand the
[7:44] that our rules actually are enforced. I
think those people it's good to get no
[7:49] at least a notification so that come
next summer they're not, you know,
[7:52] playing coy again and doing the same
stuff.
[7:55] Um you know, some of the, you know, old
institutions of the island who have
[8:00] pushed the envelope or kind of forgotten
about the rules.
[8:04] Obviously we want to catch them
eventually and let them know, but I feel
[8:07] like
they're not going anywhere. So there's
[8:09] there's one
I've I've heard rumor from
[8:14] my wife that there's some unusual
signage at a
[8:18] farm stand that needs some attention.

sentiment is felt throughout town

and there are folks that say

might be fined. They might be going
[8:57] through the the enforcement process.
But it's the same
[9:02] reaction so to speak. Some people take
get very defensive about it and some

some people listen to you and say, oh,
[9:09] I'm sorry I didn't know and it won't
happen again and others, you know, say
[9:12] how come this person is doing it and
then they they get kind of

uh not well, they challenge you. And but
[9:20] that's true in every single department.

it at the health department. It's not
[9:28] it's not new. It's just um it does
happen.

as we've talked about before.
