[0:01] I should have sound proved quite a while
[0:04] ago my home office where life got in the
[0:06] way and I never got around of doing it
[0:09] yet but in the meantime I've had a lot
[0:11] of people asking questions on cheapest
[0:13] way to sound Brew for room because you
[0:15] go online and you see a lot of videos
[0:17] how to sample from for 20 bucks well
[0:19] I've done a video talking about that
[0:22] video link right there and the thing is
[0:24] if you go watch those videos you'll be
[0:27] quite disappointed because if you follow
[0:28] those types of advice how to sound
[0:30] perform for twenty dollars how to sound
[0:31] perform for fifty dollars it usually
[0:33] doesn't work you'll go ahead buy the
[0:36] products they recommend and you'll be
[0:38] just looked online and tried to find
[0:40] alternative products that I've
[0:42] recommended in the past that the prices
[0:45] has gone up so much because one thing
[0:48] that I've also learned if you buy a
[0:50] product that has the word acoustic on it
[0:52] like acoustic sealant that's just a way
[0:55] for them to raise the price the sad
[0:58] truth is if you go around online and try
[1:01] to find some products that are for
[1:03] Acoustics acoustic sealant for example
[1:06] because it gives them more reasons to
[1:08] think that the product is a lot more
[1:11] than what it actually is so I did find
[1:13] some products that are comparable to
[1:15] products that I used to recommend at a
[1:17] fraction of the price and I'll have
[1:18] Links of all these products in the
[1:21] description below first thing that you
[1:23] need to do is where is the sound coming
[1:25] from the reality is most of the noise
[1:27] coming into a room is either coming in
[1:29] from a door or a window so if you go
[1:32] ahead and soundproof a wall you might be
[1:34] quite disappointed because you could
[1:36] have just soundproofed the door and also
[1:38] using the word soundproof can also be
[1:40] misleading because really what we're
[1:43] trying to achieve is Sound Reduction so
[1:46] let's start with where most of the noise
[1:48] is probably coming in which is the door
[1:50] and these things will not be used to
[1:53] soundproof the door because a lot of
[1:55] people online is saying just take These
[1:57] acoustic foam thingies here and it will
[2:01] sound proof the door what this is is for
[2:03] sound deadening not soundproofing if you
[2:06] stick these all over your door you will
[2:08] be quite disappointed and these aren't
[2:09] exactly cheap anymore if you want about
[2:12] 24 of these you'll pay around 50 we'll
[2:14] talk about these a little bit later in
[2:16] the video but don't use these to sound
[2:18] proof the best way to do it is to seal
[2:21] all the cracks look at the door turn off
[2:23] the lights in the room that you're in
[2:25] close the door turn the lights on in the
[2:27] opposite room and is there a lot of
[2:30] light bleeding through around the door
[2:32] under the bottom of the door if there's
[2:35] a lot of light bleeding through there's
[2:37] noise bleeding through they say and who
[2:39] is they I have no idea the experts
[2:42] perhaps they say that only a crack will
[2:45] let about 50 percent of the noise back
[2:48] into the room now
[2:50] if that's true how about we just seal
[2:52] that Gap with acoustical caulking now it
[2:56] has that word in front of it acoustical
[2:58] so price just went up we have to find an
[3:01] alternative that works the same way the
[3:03] difference between acoustical sealant
[3:06] acoustical Caulking and regular caulking
[3:08] is that the biggest difference is it it
[3:11] will not dry and crack over time regular
[3:14] caulking will dry and as the house
[3:17] shifts as you get very angry and you
[3:20] slam doors that caulking will crack and
[3:24] will let noise back in you wouldn't
[3:26] think it would just there was little
[3:27] hairline cracks but it does now what I
[3:30] recommend instead of acoustical sealant
[3:32] is called Red Devil caulking it's 779 at
[3:37] recording of this video on Amazon and
[3:39] this stuff is guaranteed not to shrink
[3:42] not to crack so where do you put it well
[3:44] on your screen this is exactly where you
[3:46] put it around where the door meets that
[3:49] small case thing you have to seal that
[3:52] Gap what you should do first is take
[3:54] some small nails and make sure that it
[3:56] is properly affixed to the wall after
[3:58] that's done make sure that the area is
[3:59] clean and dry and then add your caulking
[4:02] let that dry after that's done you want
[4:04] to create a better seal when you close
[4:07] the door because a lot of the time if
[4:09] you close the door does the door wobble
[4:11] a bit if it wobbles noise is coming
[4:14] through you want to stop that wobble how
[4:16] do you do that you can use weather
[4:18] stripping weather stripping is cheap you
[4:21] can get weather stripping for under ten
[4:23] dollars however you can go a step
[4:25] further and add something called a door
[4:28] seal kit and it's around fifty dollars
[4:30] and at recording of this video it's on
[4:33] sale for I believe 45 dollars video
[4:36] right there I install it I test it and
[4:40] it works pretty well it works better
[4:42] than a weather strip but it's five times
[4:45] more expensive and it's more work to
[4:47] install now after that's done you still
[4:50] will have one Gap at the bottom of the
[4:52] door that lets a lot of noise in now
[4:54] there is an issue here because if you
[4:57] you don't want to restrict too much
[4:58] airflow there is something that you can
[5:01] do just to see if it does restrict
[5:03] airflow just add a blanket at the bottom
[5:05] of the door now if you want a more
[5:07] permanent solution you can add a bottom
[5:10] door sweep now the door sweep that I
[5:12] recommend is under ten dollars and it's
[5:14] a U-shaped door sweep these u-shaped
[5:16] door sweeps I find works very well you
[5:18] order it it comes in one size and you
[5:21] just cut it to the width of your door
[5:23] and you'll notice a lot of Sound
[5:25] Reduction now after you've added your
[5:27] bottom door sweep your door seal kit or
[5:30] your weather stripping and your cousco
[5:32] caulking no not a cool school caulking
[5:34] you're a red devil caulking your room
[5:37] will be a lot more soundproof than it
[5:39] was the amount of noise coming in will
[5:41] have been reduced will it cost you more
[5:43] than twenty dollars it actually doesn't
[5:45] have to if you just go with the caulking
[5:48] and the weather strip and then threw a
[5:51] blanket on the floor to stop the noise
[5:53] from bleeding in yeah you can soundproof
[5:55] the door for under 20 works a lot better
[5:57] than sticking these on the wall I can
[5:59] tell you that now after all that's done
[6:00] you can still go a step further and add
[6:02] something in front of the door to make
[6:04] it more soundproof to block some noise
[6:07] and also make the room sound better no
[6:09] it's not these it's a moving blanket or
[6:12] two moving blankets moving blankets are
[6:15] thicker they're heavier than regular
[6:17] blankets they're better than
[6:20] just using some curtains and they'll
[6:23] block noise and they'll make the room
[6:26] sound better how you hang the curtains
[6:28] also is is by using velcro what you do
[6:30] you just staple the velcro or you can
[6:33] actually sew it onto the moving blanket
[6:35] industrial velcro works a lot better
[6:38] because blankets are quite heavy you
[6:40] might be wondering well these blankets
[6:42] how much do they cost while moving
[6:44] blankets don't cost that much you can
[6:46] get two moving while you can get one
[6:47] moving blanket for 17 bucks but let's
[6:49] forget about that let's get two moving
[6:51] blankets for twenty dollars that's a lot
[6:53] cheaper than acoustic foam and you can
[6:56] actually use it for different things
[6:57] also the moving blankets will not only
[7:00] block some noise coming in through the
[7:02] door but will also make the room sound
[7:04] better it'll do what these things are
[7:07] meant to do you add those plush material
[7:10] on a flat hard surface it will absorb
[7:14] some sound waves it's not going to
[7:16] absorb enough sound waves to actually
[7:18] block a lot of the noise but it will
[7:20] make a little bit of a difference and it
[7:22] will not break the bank which is good
[7:25] and you can use it for other things
[7:26] that's it with the door let's move on if
[7:29] you're having troubles with the window
[7:31] the window is a little bit uh more of a
[7:34] challenge because to add stuff on the
[7:37] window to make it a lot more sound proof
[7:39] will cost you a lot of money changing
[7:42] the windows to really thin single pane
[7:44] windows to double or triple pane windows
[7:47] that's quite costly there are ways to
[7:49] reduce the amount of noise coming
[7:51] through the window by using the caulking
[7:53] that I was talking about in the door you
[7:55] can use that around the window frame
[7:57] around the window where the window meets
[7:59] the frame and those cracks will bleed
[8:02] noise in not a whole lot of noise but if
[8:05] you already have the caulking bring it
[8:07] over to the window also after that's
[8:09] done you can use the moving blankets
[8:11] block the window with removing blankets
[8:13] use the double sided velcro and that
[8:17] will work but you can also use blackout
[8:21] curtains now blackout curtains sound
[8:23] deadening curtains it's it's it's more
[8:26] yes it's more sound deadening curtains
[8:28] than sound proofing curtains but they
[8:30] will stop a little bit of the noise from
[8:32] coming in the thing is is try if you can
[8:35] just buy a single panel one single panel
[8:39] because one wide single panel will work
[8:43] better than two panels because you'll
[8:46] avoid getting that slice right in the
[8:48] middle making noise bleed into the room
[8:51] if you do that you will reduce a little
[8:53] bit of the noise coming in from outside
[8:55] it's not going to be huge I can't I'm
[8:57] not going to lie to you and tell you
[8:59] that you're going to reduce the Noise by
[9:01] 50 or 25 percent what it's going to do
[9:04] it's going to deaden especially road
[9:07] noise if you're dealing with a lot of
[9:09] road noise that those high pitched noise
[9:12] are going to be deaden a little bit now
[9:15] by deadening that noise it'll make the
[9:17] noise a lot less annoying but it might
[9:19] just be enough to make the room home
[9:20] peaceful enough for you so now the walls
[9:24] while the walls is a little bit more
[9:26] tricky because I am not going to sit
[9:29] here and tell you to add these on the
[9:32] wall adding Mass on the wall is what's
[9:34] going to soundproof your wall it's that
[9:37] simple you have to add Mass you have to
[9:39] add mass less sound waves are able to go
[9:42] through if you can do it yourself adding
[9:44] the drywall on the wall that has the
[9:47] most noise coming through then you will
[9:49] be a lot happier than adding some
[9:52] acoustic foam that I threw somewheres or
[9:54] some acoustic panels if you have to hire
[9:56] somebody it'll be more expensive now you
[9:59] can Elevate the amount of soundproofing
[10:01] by adding some Mass loaded vinyl a sheet
[10:04] of it in between the two layers of
[10:07] drywall now Mass loaded vinyl is a very
[10:09] dense very heavy but thin rubber that
[10:13] acts as a sound proofer and also as a
[10:16] sound deadener so it's not only going to
[10:18] block sound it's all also going to
[10:21] absorb noise or help absorb some of the
[10:24] noise the thing is with mass loaded
[10:26] vinyl it is quite expensive so so it's
[10:28] not the cheapest way to soundproof a
[10:30] wall it will cost you around 100 or more
[10:33] for the mass loaded vinyl because the
[10:36] more you need the more it's going to
[10:37] cost the thing is if you buy in bulk
[10:40] it's going to be cheaper however it
[10:43] comes in a roll the roll will just be
[10:45] bigger now Mass loaded vinyl will weigh
[10:48] about one pound to two pounds per square
[10:51] foot now keep that in mind now let's
[10:54] take a step back if you aren't willing
[10:56] to add some drywall if you can't afford
[10:58] or is unwilling to add some Mass loaded
[11:01] vinyl what else can you do to the wall
[11:03] to make it more soundproof electrical
[11:06] outlets now you would think that there's
[11:10] no noise coming through the Electoral
[11:11] Outlets let's just pretend here that you
[11:13] have a wall between rooms that is
[11:16] uninsulated no insulation in the walls
[11:18] because most walls between rooms are
[11:20] uninsulated and now most electrical
[11:22] outlets will be back to back a lot of
[11:25] them not all of them if you go right to
[11:28] the electrical outlet and you start
[11:30] talking and you have somebody else on
[11:32] the other side of the room at the
[11:33] electrical outlet and they can they have
[11:35] their ear right to it they'll hear you
[11:37] quite clearly because there's a hole in
[11:40] the wall and yes there is an electrical
[11:42] box but that electrical box is full of
[11:43] holes as well now the best product to
[11:45] use to soundproof electrical boxes of
[11:49] that type are putty pads now putty pads
[11:52] are great you just wrap it around the
[11:54] box it keeps it from bleeding noise and
[11:56] also it's fire safe it was actually
[11:58] developed to contain fire if a fire were
[12:02] to start inside the electrical outlet
[12:04] the wall needs to be open for you to do
[12:06] that now chances are are your wall is
[12:09] finished you can't get behind the
[12:11] electrical outlet box so what do you do
[12:13] can't use putty pads well let's go back
[12:16] to your red rooster caulking or no Red
[12:18] Devil Caulking and no this video is not

[12:43] because the crack is too big then use a
[12:45] product called backer rod it's cheap you
[12:47] just cut a piece and you wrap it around
[12:49] around electrical boxes and then you add
[12:52] your caulking around all the cracks to
[12:55] make sure it is all sealed put your face
[12:57] plate back on you might be surprised at
[13:01] how much noise has been reduced then
[13:03] that'll work even better if you can go
[13:05] on the other room and do that to all the
[13:07] outlet covers and light switches you
[13:09] will definitely notice more of a
[13:11] difference than just sticking an
[13:13] acoustic foam on the wall after all
[13:15] that's done let's talk about acoustic
[13:17] Foams and acoustic panels because a lot
[13:19] of videos out there that's all they
[13:21] recommend acoustic foam what that will
[13:23] do it'll make the room sound better
[13:25] it'll deaden the noise inside the rooms
[13:28] so it can appear that the room is a lot
[13:30] quieter and if you get rid of all the
[13:33] echoes in the room the noise that you're
[13:35] making within the room is not going to
[13:38] sound as loud on the other side of the
[13:42] room but if you want to soundproof your
[13:44] room to stop noise from the outside from
[13:47] coming in it's not really going to sound
[13:50] proof anything therefore deadening the
[13:52] sound and for making the room sound
[13:54] better but do you have to spend hundreds
[13:56] of dollars in acoustic panels or
[13:58] acoustic Foams to achieve that you
[14:00] actually don't have to do that you can
[14:03] do that with things that you already own
[14:04] another way to absorb the noise inside
[14:06] the room and not have to spend a lot of
[14:09] money doing so is do you have add your
[14:11] second moving blanket on the wall now
[14:14] that's not going to soundproof the wall
[14:16] that's not going to stop noise from
[14:17] coming through it's only going to make
[14:19] the room sound better and it is a lot
[14:22] cheaper but uglier than adding some
[14:24] acoustic on the wall alright so that's
