[0:00] good morning welcome to the fire committee for the Village of Point ever [0:03] for Tuesday September 12th I'd like to call this meeting to order at this time [0:09] are there any Declarations of pecuniary interests none [0:13] known okay uh we have no delegations the prior meeting minutes have been [0:18] circulated mayor hand do you have any questions or comments no I don't okay I [0:24] will recommend that we receive and approve so [0:28] moved there is one ongoing task carried over from previous meetings is the [0:34] community Master fire plan which is to be added to the 2024 [0:38] budget um can we please have an update on the status of the library and fire [0:43] hall roof project yep uh last I heard they're planning on starting [0:47] approximately not next Monday but the Monday after um the week I think the day [0:53] two actually maybe it is next the 19th it might be next week or 18th that would [0:58] be the 18th yeah is the week of the 20th is when they're [1:02] expecting to Monday's the 18th and do we know how [1:07] long dependent on weather two weeks thank you very much so that should [1:14] see it done by the end of [1:19] September yeah the weather cooperates okay uh the joint health and [1:26] safety committee report for the fire hall is complete and I recommend that we [1:29] receiving [1:33] file Chief McKenzie can you please share the your M fire please [1:39] okay um with community relations so multiple [1:45] car seat installations are still being brought forward to us the guys are [1:50] helping people try to put them in um as we stated last time we're not [1:56] renewing our certifications at this time because you have to go to town [2:01] there people are still coming to us because nobody's answering the phone and [2:04] other agencies to help them um Fire Halls are complete or fire [2:10] hall tours completed with a number of groups uh inspections multiple [2:17] inspections still with sunbridge and the new construction on venan trying to stay [2:22] on top of it also and multiple mobile food truck inspections [2:28] also Community Emergency Management plaudo yeah During the period of this [2:36] report um the county had their CMC meeting our field officer from [2:43] onario onario was there as well over some of the storm debrief from the area [2:49] um and then we had an internal storm debrief here some that and then [2:56] basically does their month so those [3:04] uh vehicles and Equipment all vehicles are in good working order our annual [3:07] pump tests been done on the engine and the ladder we have a couple valves on [3:13] the uh engine that has to be replaced that [3:16] leaking ground ladders have all been completed a little bit of work had to be [3:20] done to them nothing major [3:25] um the boat trailer instead of replacing it [3:30] Rick and I took it upon ourselves to uh fix it so we repaired it got it in [3:35] working order so that uh saved us 5,000 bucks our rescue truck um is still [3:44] having some issues has a small week of antifreeze mechanic was down yesterday [3:52] still cannot find it so they're going to see what they're going to talk to the [3:57] boss and see what they can do and all Al our awning is not working and the motor [4:01] he said it's no good on it's already fried [4:05] so we'll see what they do with that hopefully we'll know in the next week or [4:09] two sorry do you mean the motor on the awning yeah okay thank [4:13] you um health and safety nothing no concerns [4:19] with anybody in the department which is brought forward every monthly meeting [4:22] from our department capital budget no Capital [4:27] expenditures took place uh we're trying to get some still trying to get host and [4:33] we got year we have to order uh so we'll see how that goes for time frame I know [4:39] we have we're still waiting from from last year so we're still having problems [4:43] getting [4:46] things um upcoming events we got bridgy school barbecue we're looking forward we [4:51] have a new principal to work with so that should be exciting for the guys [4:54] this year we Emergency Management [4:58] exercise fire prevention week is October 88th to [5:02] 14th saved by the beep smoke alarm day is September 28th so we trying to [5:08] promote get everybody to test their smoke alarms that [5:12] day probably doing handouts I think the deputy is going to [5:16] be arranging to have door too [5:21] P [5:25] correct um Chief or the deput and I uh went to the Chiefs meeting that was HED [5:33] hosted in Watford uh lots of new faces there um we [5:40] attended the Bike Rodeo hosted by the point Edward Optimus Hall which was [5:44] really nice still trying to keep that [5:49] going worked with Tim Hortons with Camp day again which is a great [5:56] supporters um fire Marshalls town hall meeting meetings Zoom meetings that [6:00] we've attended a couple of those that's gone on with everything that's [6:04] [Music] happening still meeting with E1 fir [6:11] truck um so I I'm G to bring it up now with [6:17] this um it's been extremely challenging with this [6:24] dealer um he's come down a couple times now [6:28] we've talked as you're aware um they they increased the price of the [6:34] truck because we had to get a different engine which they said they wouldn't do [6:40] but they did it and so he he gave us the spec of when we [6:46] first designed the truck and it was incorrect so I told him you got I gotta [6:50] go back so Paul you gotta go back and change it and get exactly what I what I [6:55] want that took probably two months he came down again we talked about it again [7:01] because they're still not getting what we want and what we're trying to do with [7:04] this truck is keep it very simple very basic but there's certain things that we [7:09] are trying to achieve and the main achievement that most Fire Chiefs [7:13] departments all across Ontario they're trying to lower their hose bed their [7:19] truck because they want to keep people as low as possible to load [7:26] H so he brought back some information and sent some pictures and it's not low [7:32] enough for us again so we've seen other trucks where it's lower so I said it's [7:38] got to be lower I'll have to take it back and da D all right so he took it [7:44] back and he said he get it back to me right away and the last letter I [7:49] received I don't know if you forward it to council [7:52] Jim uh I highly recommend for you to see it [7:55] [Music] um with the canoe with the discount of [8:00] the truck it was a nice discount for the truck um they're not going to set [8:04] they're not going to give us anything they're not going to give me another [8:07] spec we have to sign off on this truck if we want it to get it in the order to [8:14] be able to save on whether it's going to go up with exchange whether it's going [8:18] to go up in cost whatever whatever I'm not feeling really [8:25] comfortable because I have to answer to our [8:30] community and Council I don't have a piece of paper [8:34] that is stating that I'm getting what I'm asking for and he's telling me that [8:40] they will do this and everything else um I find that hard to [8:45] believe that I'm not going to get hit with more [8:50] money so I'd like to see some feedback from [8:56] Council what you think personally I don't feel [9:03] comfortable every I shouldn't say every there's a lot of other departments are [9:07] going through the same issues it's not the service we used to receive it's [9:13] different and I'm just I'm very cautious of telling him yes and it's it's not a [9:21] major major thing but it is to me we spent a [9:26] lot of time with our committee of our firefighters to build this truck so it's [9:31] as good as we possibly can make it and as safe and the best quality that we [9:37] can and he comes down we talk he's a very [9:41] nice fellow to talk to and stuff and I he's dealing with other people higher up [9:46] and everything else and they've just said you know what you've got to get [9:49] your name on this truck because if you don't you're you're G to miss it we're [9:54] looking at two years still to build the truck so um [10:00] I don't feel good with it I know the deputy doesn't feel good with it um so [10:07] we we don't know which way to go here [10:12] um to me if it's not a written contract somehow they want to change your wording [10:17] that we're going to receive everything and it's not going to be an increase [10:21] then I can work with them a bit but uh it's been very very challenging I have [10:26] never ever seen anything like this in my time and I've I've replaced every truck [10:32] in our department never have I ever seen this nobody wants to come down nobody [10:37] wants to talk to you nobody they have minimal information for you um it's it's [10:43] over a million bucks folks it's a big purchase I don't think [10:48] if you're not comfortable with it and your crew is not comfortable with it [10:51] then I don't think it's something that you should move on with if you you could [10:57] get stuck with something that's not what you wanted and that's would be a lot [11:01] worse than two years yeah and I mean it's it's one thing for that part of it [11:07] I mean trucks a truck and whether it's two inches higher than what I want [11:12] that's one thing but it's still signing for a million dollars and and then find [11:17] out it's another two $500,000 more that they [11:23] say well this is what you wanted and that's what I'm careful of so unless I [11:27] can get something from him uh the last proposal that we received I don't even [11:32] have it here I thought it was shared so it was a million two I think J something [11:38] 245 or something like that um you know so [11:43] it's what would happen if you didn't go with this truck that's our problem we [11:48] can't it's not as if we can just reach out and talk to anybody they are one of [11:53] the better quality trucks to purchase um [11:59] as much as I'd like to tell them you know what we're just going elsewhere I [12:04] don't have options I don't have a lot of options there's other people that sell [12:08] fire trucks but not for what I we've had extremely good luck with this style of [12:14] truck and this name of truck and I don't I don't think we should be trying to [12:19] Veer off of that and throw the dice got to remember our truck is over 20 years [12:24] old and still operating they really really good so I that goes a long ways [12:30] with me because we anything we do buy uh it's it's got to last now saying that [12:39] one thing that is in our favor I believe anyways I think our truck that we have [12:44] now will be a hot commodity for someone else to [12:48] buy and um last time we traded our truck in our rescue when we when we did that I [12:55] do not recommend trading this one in I try I would sell it ourselves yeah the [13:00] one before we went to manat tulan was that no no no where was it up north oh [13:06] that's that's two trucks two trucks ago so that is in our favor that we are we [13:12] will get a good chunk of change for that one but um I shared that stuff with Jim [13:18] to send it out so when you have a look at it you'll you'll kind of see where [13:22] I'm I would that thank you [13:27] um what one thing I think is is just stay [13:32] firm and say like you you have the option to go back and say I've reviewed [13:35] it with my councel and they need this this confirmation and writing yeah like [13:40] so you're putting it off as my council's saying this is what I [13:46] need yeah it's not like you're demanding it you're saying in order to to move [13:51] forward I need this and writing and then we can sign off yeah when we get there I [13:56] have no problem yeah I mean these people me nothing to me I don't care I have no [14:00] problem that way it's just it's just not a [14:04] comfortable feeling signed for a million bucks say oh by the way yeah by the way [14:13] we need another because I've already done that [14:18] yeah yeah yeah so it's just we need to we need to [14:25] be firm and sign the document and and we're ready to do [14:34] business is this sna just bought another this did they deal with them yeah they [14:40] have dealt with them and St Clair fire chief Richard boy is also dealing with [14:44] okay with them right now yeah Rich and I Richard and I have talked many times and [14:49] they're still having they're having the same different problems [14:53] to anyways [14:57] um uh where are we okay members attending [15:01] the meeting regarding the potential proposed changes to the narial fire [15:05] code um UFM webinar regarding the upcoming smoke [15:11] alarm day campaign uh members attended the meeting [15:16] to discuss large storm event that happened through their [15:22] Community uh several members completed their pump operation exam in their [15:27] practical component written test and practical tests which hats off to these [15:32] people that did this there was a tremendous amount of time and effort [15:36] they put in and that'll be your the first uh monies that we'll be paying out [15:42] to the people for that training which I've [15:47] submitted [Music] [15:49] um with that just so everybody understands so Jim was talking to me he [15:56] wanted something in writing for state how we how we go about this and what [16:01] I've tried to do is talk to again other people that have sent their people [16:05] through for any type of training and how they paid them the hour [16:11] um time frame there's a Time usually that the college allows for any of these [16:17] courses I went in between and tried to balance it out for what I've done I [16:23] think it's fair for our people it's fair right across the line but you need to [16:27] understand it can be a lot more money and it probably will be because as [16:33] things going to progress I think you're going to see [16:37] more and more and people are going to expect it and rightfully so it is it is [16:41] a big time thing that they we put in in a lot of stress I know our people were [16:47] stressed out for this [16:50] course um ended the learning webinar regarding [16:57] uh gas fires and residential structures CL [17:02] utilize vacation time Rick utiliz some vacation time I'm leaving [17:10] tomorrow uh for vacation I thought better finish that [17:15] sentence where you got [17:18] excited um don't start planning the party our open house uh we're I'm [17:24] looking for some direction on it also um with Co [17:29] crisis that we had and know we talked about it and was I only who I talked to [17:34] might have been Jim might have been councel I have no idea but we are [17:37] talking about going every other year every year um I'd like to know what you [17:42] would like because it's coming up I'd like to see it every year every [17:47] year I think that it's a great event for our community really keeps um our [17:52] community pass fire okay I I agree because the people that attend are all [17:56] the people with the young families and and they really look forward to coming [18:00] out okay so we'll we'll get rolling on it um open burn I just wanted to know is [18:09] there any update with that yet Jim or nothing um it's as far as I'm aware it's [18:14] sitting on the judge's dock ready for approval it's been prepared to you know [18:18] where the person I deal with has recommended it for approval so we're [18:21] just waiting for that okay and we've lost three more people [18:27] this month so another person just got hired on the city and I think we have [18:31] another one that's on the list for the city so but we've lost three this [18:38] month that's it thank [18:43] you um the fire monthly financial statements do we have any questions or [18:48] comments of those I I didn't have any questions on any of [18:53] it then we will receive I didn't see anything scary [19:00] at this point the end for the end of July then we can receive and file um we [19:06] moved the next meeting date for of the fire committee will be held on October [19:11] 10th at 8:30 a.m. motion to [19:16] adour 8:30 or 8 said 8:30 in here it says 8:30 but it's eight okay for [19:23] everybody we're here S no problem us okay and 8 a. yeah okay we can change [19:27] them yeah that just kind of automatically shows up [19:32] yeah thank you
