This is the random public schools, full school committee meeting for Thursdays, September 3rd, 2026. To begin at 7.03 pm, excuse the delay. [0:18] Ms. Cardona, can you do a roll call, please? Yes, Ms. Alaveras. [0:23] Hi, isn't Miss Millwood here? Miss questions? [0:28] Yes. Mr. O'Connell. [0:30] Yeah. [0:31] Thank you. [0:33] All right, and we have quam. [0:36] Good pleasure. [0:37] Thank you. [0:40] All right. [0:41] So at this time, I'll allow, um, [0:45] I'm opening the four two public comments. [0:49] And so just, we need it. [0:50] In accordance with the School Committee policy, [0:51] the BEDH, the public comment segment shall not exceed 30 minutes, speakers will be allowed [0:58] up to three minutes to present. So, anyone in the audience, that wants to potentially [1:05] take in public comments, please, I think, raise your hand, I think it is in the audience section. [1:12] And I'll give you minutes. If anyone wants to, public comments call, go on the lines, [1:20] what [1:23] the common call going twice, [1:28] all right, that section of the agenda is closed. [1:33] Thank you. All right, so chair, vice chair, update, and so I'm going to just do a quick [1:38] intro and then I'll hand that piece over to Natalie. I just listed on P.S. School of [1:43] Assignment Reports. And so with that, I asked Natalie as vice chair to just take on some additional [1:50] communication and contact roles. And that includes one just communicating with all members of the [1:58] full committee as we are all assigned school assignments. And so it's just to encourage, [2:03] you know, just the community engagement. And so I wanted her to just check in with all members to see [2:09] there's anything from PTO schools account so that needs to be potentially added to the agenda. [2:15] And so that is a part of Natalie's role just to check in with all members regarding specifically [2:20] school assignments and it was subcommittee updates. If anybody just doesn't have a chance to email me, [2:27] rebarding, you know, anything that you want to add to the agenda, Natalie is going to check in. [2:31] All right, another little hand on off to you. Yes, thank you, Miss Christian. So [2:36] with that, just to reiterate really quickly who the school assignments are. So assigned to the [2:50] school is Ms. Kirby Christian assigned to the Young Elementary School is Ms. [2:54] Coles Roby assigned to the Randolph Committee, Randolph Committee, Community [2:59] Middle School is Ms. Ida Gordon and assigned to the Randolph High School is [3:04] Ms. Lisa Millwood. Again, just to reiterate what chairwoman Christian said, I'd like to [3:11] just help and assist anyone in everyone and being a, what is that word called, [3:18] a liaison between getting things onto the agenda and communicating any updates that you might have [3:26] from your schools respectively. Some ideas include town council meetings, schools say council meetings, [3:34] and those dates. We'd like to, you know, add those to the agenda and list them out clearly [3:38] for the public, right? And announce them for everyone. Fun events that are happening in your school, [3:44] new and upcoming, just new and upcoming curriculum that's being introduced that, you know, [3:51] we want to highlight and really emphasize, I know that every school has, you know, is going [3:56] through sort of their own pace and we want to just highlight all of those good things. And so [4:02] after discussion, we have agreed that we will add this to the agenda by school committee, [4:08] so committee reports quarterly. Not monthly, I think that's a lot, but obviously if you have [4:12] anything to mention in between those quarterly updates, then we will more than you are more than [4:18] welcome to mention them at committee reports on your own. But if there's anything that I can do to [4:26] help, just let me know. And we like this idea primarily because usually at the end of every agenda, [4:32] there's committee comments. Well, we never feel like there's enough time to, you know, for committee members [4:37] to give enough to a lot of times it's, you know, [4:41] to appreciation or gratitude or sentimental comments. [4:45] But we want to make sure we're really [4:46] all being a part of the community and engaging [4:49] and really reporting that back to the full committee [4:51] as a whole and, you know, as all meetings are recorded [4:55] out to the general population in public as well. [4:59] All right. [5:01] We've got lots of comments regarding that specific, please. [5:07] All right. [5:08] That's all I'm sorry. [5:09] Oh, yeah, that's good. [5:09] I was trying to find my new point. [5:13] I would like to jump in a little with the young school of possible because my wife [5:19] just signed up to be on the PTO, so I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of feedback through her [5:24] to the PTO. [5:28] Oh, yes. [5:29] Natalie, go ahead. [5:31] Have any updates you receive from your wife or whoever regarding the young, even if you become [5:36] aware of it yourself, feel free to shoot me a message and if for whatever reason you can't [5:41] make a meeting, I'll make sure to mention that update on your behalf. [5:45] I am going to have trouble getting the PTO meetings as a parent, because they're [5:51] during the town council meetings, but I'm sure my wife will fill me as you well know. [5:58] Of course. [5:59] All right. [6:00] Thank you. [6:02] Thank you. [6:04] Okay. [6:06] Superintendent, I will hand it over to you for your updates. [6:09] Thank you. [6:12] You're muted. [6:22] Can you hear me? [6:25] Okay. [6:26] Sorry. [6:28] All right. [6:28] So good evening, everyone. [6:30] It has been a really nice start to school this year. [6:35] We had the teachers for two days and then our students came in yesterday and today. [6:41] And it's been really nice. [6:43] So we started with Convocation on Monday. [6:46] And that's where all of our staff and teachers came back and we met, we actually met on the field. [6:52] And we had our high school graduates that graduate in August, they had a graduation ceremony with their parents came. [7:00] And then we had a gentleman by the name of the team flowers who has done a lot of work around play with an agency, very similar to like champions or play works. [7:15] And so we had all of our staff on the field doing various exercises, but everything they did were activities to model of things they could do in their classroom. [7:26] So it was really nice today. I got tons of pictures. [7:30] And just text from people showing how the teachers were implementing some of the activities that they had learned. So we have a lot of positive feedback. Everyone's super excited and refreshed and renewed and rejuvenated. [7:46] And the kids seem genuinely happy to be back in school, so a great start, I mean there are a couple of hiccups, we are trying to implement this new transportation platform that we have. [8:01] We are not rolling it out yet to parents because we haven't learned how to use it, the provider is going to be providing us with some professional development around it. [8:12] But the good thing is when it actually is up and running properly, it not only will it help us [8:19] do roots better to optimize the roots, but also parents will actually be able to log in and [8:24] see where the bus is, where it is in real time, and what time they should expect to get to the stop. [8:33] So there's a lot going on with that, but in the meantime, the roots are, I wouldn't say the roots are [8:40] changing as much, but there's been a lot of change in our transportation, because we still have kids in rolling. [8:47] So sometimes if a bus gets to go, we have to move kids. So there's going to be hiccups with that. [8:54] Probably for the, well, this week is over, but like for next week, and maybe even the week after, [8:59] I was talking to the transportation coordinator earlier today. She's already had to change the route. [9:05] So that's something that we continue to work on and try to make sure that, you know, we're accommodating as many families as we can. [9:17] I did speak to the team that's handling all of our communication to make sure that they provide more updates on our website under the Family Engagement. [9:28] so that folks have more information around transportation and how like the criteria for that. [9:37] In terms of student enrollment, which is another big thing we're dealing with right now, we have. [9:44] So this isn't a secret, right? Every year we know that Dunnaven tends to get overcrowded as does. [9:50] JFK mainly because of the way housing is located in Randolph and we tend to put our elementary [9:56] students are must they need a specialized program that's in a school outside their local area. [10:03] They get placed in the closest school to their house, very localized school placement. [10:10] And so we're seeing bigger numbers in some of our grades, particularly at the kindergarten level, [10:15] so we may have to do some movement of students around, because contractually based on the teacher [10:22] contract where there should not be a gap of more than six. So right now we're seeing 18 at [10:30] one school in 28 at another. So we're going to have to move some students around. So we're [10:36] working on that as we speak. And some of that is, I mean today, I saw a line there are still people [10:44] in rolling. So we're looking at that and just keeping an eye on that to make sure that our enrollment, [10:49] that we have enough classrooms and that we're not needing to [10:55] rehire more more teachers. [10:57] So it's just something we're, you know, we're on it [11:00] and we're looking at the numbers every day. [11:04] I wanted to, can I share my screen? [11:06] I just wanted to share with you briefly [11:13] our art, what I'm looking for my screen. [11:17] I wanted to share with you the leaders of the, I know I have to share my screen so hold on. [11:29] Do I have the ability to share? [11:31] Yeah, I'd make you co-host. [11:33] Okay, so let me just set it. [11:34] You see a request to come in for an ask as I just need to go. [11:44] Can you see my screen? [11:46] It's noting. [11:48] There we go. [11:50] All right. [11:51] I just want to make it bigger so you can see the whole thing [11:53] and I have a ton of stuff open. [12:00] You should do it. So these are our principles this year. [12:06] Some of them are very familiar faces that you're used to with there are some new principles. [12:10] So we have principal licorice, John licorice, who's at the high school. And when we have [12:16] Megan Dwyer, who does an excellent job running aim academy, which is our alternative high school. [12:23] And then we have Principal Monosteem who does the rent of community middle school, and then Principal Duane, who is at Donovan, [12:33] new to rent off this year, is my Dom, Fabian Pierre Maxwell, who is the JFK Elementary Principal. [12:42] And then we have Principal Brain, who has been at North, for several years now, she came [12:49] when it was Lions, and then another, not new face to Randolph, but new to the Principal [12:55] Ship is Principal Natan-Cottlier, who is the Principal of the Young Elementary, who has been [13:03] and teacher for lions. So this is our new principal team this year and you will meet them all in [13:14] person as you visit their schools and I may ask them to come into some of these meetings from [13:19] time to time to give some updates on things that are happening around the district but I just wanted [13:24] to share to make sure that you all know when you see them they will be at spirit night but they are [13:32] a great team to work with. We've had a awesome summer getting prepared for opening and they [13:39] I really believe that they are the right people in the right seats at this time for everything that [13:46] we have planned for this year. So it's been very exciting. And for the most part, the newest member [13:54] would be Ms. Pierre Maxwell because she is the JFK principal who is completely new to the [14:02] district, whereas everyone else has moved into their role from prior positions in the district. [14:08] So I just wanted to share that with you so that you had an opportunity to see the faces of our [14:18] demographics well, and we also have some assistant principles as well that we will share at a later time. I didn't have pictures of all of them yet, so I didn't share. [14:32] A couple of things I just want to mention to all of you is we have our spirit night, which is on September 18th. [14:43] It's going to start at four o'clock. It's on the baseball field every end of high school. [14:48] It will start out with some of the fun events. I believe that there's the ice cream trucks are going to be there. [14:53] The toggle truck is going to be there and that's courtesy of Common Square Health Center. [14:59] We... [15:00] We'll have our grills going with the hamburgers and the hot dogs that will do through our approved service program. [15:07] The balances, all that stuff for kids, so we're encouraging, and there'll be lots of communication going out to families to remind them of this event. [15:17] I did actually receive a call from Council of Burgess yesterday that there's apparently, [15:25] I think it's the cart rate trophy, but apparently there's a trophy that has been in this town, [15:31] sounds like it's been ever a long time, that was broken and then disrepair and has been repaired. [15:40] So they are looking to, and it sounds like it's a trophy that has sort of gone to athletes [15:46] over the years, over multiple years, and somehow it ended up in the turn of free library basement. [15:52] So anyway, the town has gotten this thing repaired, and so they wanted to do a presentation [15:58] to our Super Bowl winners with this trophy on September 18th. So. [16:04] Are you sorry? Have you saw it? Have you seen the trophy? I have not seen the trophy of you. [16:11] It's humongous. [16:12] Well, so where is the trophy store in at when I saw it? It was in the Washington room. Okay, it's [16:21] Like six or seven feet tall. It is very heavy. I don't know how he's going to move it. [16:28] Oh, that wasn't a six foot troll. Okay. Well, I, so I'm meeting with Coach Marshall on Tuesday to get more information. [16:37] because I didn't know anything about it, and I hadn't, I wasn't even aware that this was a thing. [16:45] So he texted me, yes, and we kind of went back and forth. So I reached out to Coach Marshall today. [16:51] So we're going to just talk about it because I don't know where it's, I'm assuming it's going back to town hall. [16:56] Yeah, I'm going to ask, where's it going to go? I don't think it's going to go into the school, especially if it's six feet. [17:03] I don't know so I will have answers after Tuesday I guess. Lisa. I just want to say this isn't the first time we've had either staff at the town or town counselors that are going directly to staff in the school department and not going through the superintendent or going through the school committee. [17:28] And things like this, like honestly, Dr. Stovelle should have known about this when it was first being, you know, coordinated and it's, it's a problem when she's not involved in these conversations until the last minute. [17:43] Yeah, and we spoke, she and I spoke about that and send the agreement we can say it here publicly as well. [17:49] Yes, that is the appropriate way. All, all, just, you know, Coach Marshall, Michael Mason, [17:57] Joe Sexton, everyone are staff for the district. And Dr. Sylvail is the one in which we should be [18:03] all elected officials should be going to if there's a question or a concern. [18:09] And she most likely will get an answer or direct the people in the way that they need to. [18:15] So I agree with you and we've definitely talked about that and I believe that you've talked to Coach Marshall, as well, just to ensure. [18:22] We're meeting on Tuesday. [18:25] We're meeting on Tuesday because I just want to, I didn't realize the trophy was that big. [18:29] So now I really, I don't know where it's going. [18:32] I don't know how it's getting there. [18:33] I don't, I don't know who's going to be responsible. [18:35] Well, I mean, and I don't know, again, according to Councillor Berges, it's been repaired [18:40] or restored. [18:42] I don't know how old it is, how fragile it is. [18:45] I don't know any of that stuff. [18:46] So I just want to make sure if it's going to be in our care, like how are we managing that, [18:52] if it's not in our care, it's taken care of that. [18:56] Because I don't know if it's being presented to our students to keep or if it's just being [19:00] sort of shown to them. [19:01] So that's the purpose of the meeting to like get all of that information, clear to you. [19:07] Yep, good questions, ask. Go ahead, Kevin. [19:09] If I could just jump in real quick on the previous comments, [19:15] I'm going to assume that council [19:16] Burgess brought this up because the coaches reached out to the whole town council through email, [19:23] asking us if we would attend on 1918. So that's probably how this came about. I don't think he [19:30] jumped out of his lane with this. Well, an invitation is different than injecting a different [19:37] item to the agenda. And I'll say, you know, to which is it has no real bearing. I know that [19:44] Burgess has kind of been restoring and seeing a lot of like archived things and presenting [19:50] and passing them along, which is fine. I think there's just the invitation is very different than [19:55] adding an agenda item. And I think that's just the distinction we're trying to just [19:59] team, right, because we got the invitation as well. [20:03] If I could just add in, because I question this as soon as I got the invitation, [20:08] because initially the invitation didn't go to school committee mark, and the town council. [20:14] So I started questioning at that point what was going on, and my understanding, Kevin, [20:20] is that Burgess was working directly with John Marshall on this. [20:25] Dr. Stovell wasn't a part of this until she saw the invitation. [20:27] The superintendent shouldn't know about this after an invitation goes out to town council members, [20:33] and then clearly the communication wasn't there because if you look cabinet, you're originally email, [20:39] school committee wasn't even on it. [20:41] So that's where things can fall through the cracks and the problems can arise when we don't include the superintendent. [20:49] So I would ask as a school committee member that you go back to town council and just reiterate the fact that, [20:54] If they're working on projects, which is fantastic, it like nobody's questioning whether or not [20:59] this is a good thing, it's just a matter of making sure that we're following chain of command [21:04] and we're respecting Dr. Stovell's role as the superintendent. [21:15] Okay, [21:21] Stovell, is that it? [21:22] Or no, I just one more thing. We are, so when I say we, I'm talking about the central office team, [21:29] primarily myself, I'm a Sanford who oversees [21:32] like family and community engagement. [21:35] And then, assistance, content, and Michael Bollier, [21:38] we are hosting on Tuesday, September 22nd at 530. [21:42] And I don't know if we've determined exactly [21:44] where we're going to do it yet. [21:45] It's either going to be probably at Randolph-Haisley, [21:49] either at the library or at the Randolph Community [21:52] Middle School, but we are hosting a listening and learning [21:56] form where we just want to hear from our families, right? [21:59] We think partnering is a big deal and we understand that our families are, there are a lot of obstacles to getting out in the evening, you know, attending various events. [22:13] But we are hoping to get our families to come out to just kind of hear about one, what we, what we hope to. [22:22] and how we hope to partner with families, [22:27] but the real thing is for us to listen to our families and see each. [22:30] What are some of the things that we can do to improve the experiences for families in the district? [22:36] So again, this will go out multiple times to all of our families, but we are really looking forward to having this form. [22:43] This we want this to be the first of many that we, you know, one of the things that we realize is, you know, we have high expectations and then certain things will happen and then things get taken away. [22:56] like, oh, we give less homework because kids aren't doing it or we do this and, you know, [23:01] for, for various reasons. And I believe that our parents value education, just like parents [23:08] do in other communities, and there may be some obstacles in the way. So we want to hear like, [23:12] what are those things and how can we support? And what do parents need to be able to support at home? [23:17] And some of it may be they just need more information from us regarding curriculum and things like that. [23:22] So we just want to have a conversation and it is going to be open to the entire Randolph community. [23:28] We are debating about how we're going to schedule the room in terms of like if it's overwhelmingly elementary parents, [23:37] we want to make sure that secondary voices get heard so we're going to figure that out. [23:41] But this is our first of, at least several that we are going to do so I'm hoping that those who are listening here this and actually come out [23:51] you'll there'll be more information to come that follows up on this so we're we're really excited [23:57] and really trying to figure out again the best ways to engage parents so we want to hear from them [24:02] like what what are things that would make you come out are these things that we should do virtually [24:07] and what is it that you want to know and hear at that will help us support your children not just [24:13] social motionally and, you know, but also academically and beyond, you know, beyond the [24:22] bake sale. [24:22] Like, we'll be on the PTO stuff, like all of that stuff is great and I don't want to minimize [24:27] it because we value all of the hard work that our parents put in, but I think the work [24:34] that we need to do is so much deeper than that and the only way we're going to get there [24:38] is by talking to our families to figure out what they need. [24:41] So I'm really excited about this forum and it's really for us to hear more so than speak from our parents. [24:51] When that was my report. [24:52] Thank you. [24:53] Did you mention the location for this? [24:56] I'm going to double check because we had two locations and I don't know if they sent out the flyer yet. [25:04] So before I announce a location I will double check and I will make sure that this gets sent out. [25:09] it will be sent out in multiple languages, [25:10] and it'll be sent out across talking points. [25:13] It'll be on Facebook, but the date is September 22nd at 5.30. [25:18] And then you mentioned, you want to know what parents want to hear, [25:25] what they want to listen to or understand. [25:28] Are you going to have like a survey? [25:30] Are you going to have like an open mic or Q&A staff? [25:33] Like how are you going to gather that information? [25:36] I think a few things, we are going to probably do a survey, but that night, it's literally going to be a discussion. [25:43] You know, we're probably going to sit there and it's just going to be a discussion. [25:47] I, you know, I didn't want to ask people RSVP, but I, but I almost do jump. [25:51] I'm not because I'm, I want, I just want to know how many people to expect because depending on the number is really going to determine how [25:59] how small or how big will we go, right? [26:04] I mean, I love the idea of just sitting at a table and talking, [26:08] and not, not being a formal process, [26:11] but if it becomes a bigger crowd, [26:13] then we'd, yes, we'd have mics and people [26:15] have to, you know, go to the mic and ask questions. [26:18] And so we're open to any of it. [26:21] We just want our parents to come out. [26:23] And so, we will definitely adjust. [26:26] We'll be prepared for the bigger crowd [26:28] the smaller crowd, but you know, I also know if we send out and say RSVP, we're going to get, you know, [26:34] a lot of people won't do it, right? But they'll show up. And so the goal is to get people to show up. [26:41] So we'll be prepared for any of that. And so the thing would be if it's a ton of folks is just creating [26:47] some order around how folks ask questions. So that, you know, multiple voices get heard and not just a few [26:54] voices, so that will work on the process. [26:59] I'm sorry if you already said this piece, and then next to my next question. [27:03] And so who's going to be present, are going to be like all the principles, [27:07] administrative staff leadership? [27:11] So right now we're making it optional. [27:13] The people that are going to be, so yes, there will be some principles. [27:16] I don't know if it all will be there. [27:18] But everyone knows about it. [27:20] The key people that are going to be there. [27:22] the assistance superintendent, the chief of family engagement. [27:29] So those are the three and the reason we did it is because what we really are trying to do [27:33] is gather information and the whole point of gathering the information is as we're working [27:38] with the principles and working with the, because what I don't want this to be and I will [27:44] name this, I don't want this to be people coming in and like sort of, you know, they don't [27:50] like a principal and because it's not really about that it's about how do we improve the district and so if they're individual issues and I'm not saying they can't speak on an individual issue, but if the issue is to like, you know, target a staff person, like that's not the goal, the goal is to really think about like we know that there are issues in the district, there are lots of challenges that we face on a regular basis and it's like how do we problem solve that together and how do we get parents? [28:17] You know, we spent a lot of time on a lot of things, but what we don't really talk to parents about a lot are like the academics, like do they know when their children are learning, do they know how to support what their children are doing at home? [28:29] Are they even aware of what we do to support children, social, emotionally? [28:33] Are they, like there's so much stuff that happens and so we want to hear from our parents, see what they think they know what they know and then how do we support? [28:44] Because I think there's going to be a lot of things where parents are going to say like I didn't know that I hear all the time from parents [28:49] They're like I didn't know you do that right right and so it's like like hearing that and then thinking about what are the best ways to communicate that [28:57] I have one school tell me parents like [29:00] We don't want any more talking point. We've kind of shut them all down because you all communicate too much [29:05] And I got another school going you don't communicate enough so like it's like [29:09] You know, I keep saying, air on the side of caution and communicate correct, but if that's not what parents want, like, I don't, you know what I mean, and I think part of the issue is some parents have children in three different schools and they're getting, you know, so we, we've got to figure out the best ways to do that. And I, you know, for me, it's like, I can sit in a room and kind of put my head together with a bunch of people in doble like why not have the people on impact in the room. So that's the purpose of the meeting. [29:39] right. Thank you. Natalie, go ahead. [29:43] This is so brilliant and I'm so excited about this. I just had a comment. So we have [29:51] spirit night. You announced two very huge important nights for the district. And I sincerely [29:56] don't think that one is more important than the other. However, [30:00] Things that have to do with sports, things that have to do with the band, things that are like more fun, get more public attention, and more announcements, and they reach people, students, families more. [30:12] How can we ensure that the listening learning forum is just as publicized, that we get the word out as soon as possible, that we just encourage as many students and families to come and participate? [30:23] because I agree, I think this is just a very great opportunity for parents to come and listen [30:31] to what, you know, the people that you mentioned have to say about what the district offers [30:35] to the students, but like you said, for them to provide, you know, questions and comments [30:41] and ideas and feedback just so that the district also understands what parents and families. [30:47] know, really excited about it. Just can't wait to see a fire to start, you know, circulating it. [30:54] Yeah, yeah. It'll be, I think something already went out, but if it didn't, it'll [30:58] stuff will definitely be going out starting next week. Awesome. Thank you. [31:03] Yeah, I think it's just all about advertising. Right. Yeah. Natalie, you're right. [31:07] Yeah, people do in May show up to the things that are quote unquote mere more fun. [31:11] But then we do have families that are very much in freeing to what you guys are going to be [31:16] and in the purpose. So it's just, it's making sure that, like you said, Aaron's out of caution, [31:21] it's communicated to as many avenues as we possibly can. And then just up to the families to get [31:27] there and really, you know, join in the conversation. Dr. So, do you anticipate having another one later [31:35] in the year? Yeah, I think we're, we're, our goal is to at least do three. Okay. So we're thinking [31:41] one at the beginning sort of one in the middle and then one at the year to kind of have a baseline [31:46] of like where we've been so we want to see you know how this one goes and you know and sort [31:54] of what comes out of it and hopefully you know from it we get a lot of parent engagement and then [32:01] you know I would ideally I would I know that the schools have school site councils but there was a [32:07] time when I actually have a superintendent council and I stopped that during COVID just because, [32:12] you know, it just seemed like too much to ask for people to like do that, but this could be an [32:18] opportunity to sort of, you know, revitalize that again and normally what I did was I picked someone [32:25] from each one of the schools so that I have representation of all the schools on my advisory board. [32:31] So this is sort of sort of kicking that up again. [32:37] Funny story. I was on one of those super, super, super, super. [32:42] Okay, you were for the Lions. Yes, yes, yes, so that's how I got. [32:46] Oh my start and all of this. I think thanks to Lisa. [32:50] But yes. [32:53] Awesome. Yeah, I'm very excited about that. [32:57] As you know, like, beginning of school, like you said, there's been a lot of emails, a lot of communication. [33:01] And this is, I think, perfect timing for families to come in and air all of that and really, like you said, work together. So this is very exciting. Thank you. [33:10] For that. [33:12] Moving to, and you said that was it for yourself, right? [33:14] It's for me. Thank you. [33:15] Okay. [33:16] And then we're going to move into. [33:20] I'm sorry. [33:22] I'm sorry. [33:23] It's a funky music. [33:25] I'm also my agenda. [33:28] No, I'm sorry. [33:38] I don't have anything from child council to update you guys on right now. We didn't talk about anything that would affect the schools. [33:46] Personally, I'd like to just say that I enjoyed my open house at the young school. [33:53] I really love the teachers that my daughter's going to end up with. [33:56] Um, I really like to miss Ragly. [33:59] I'm sad that she's going to go on maternity leave, but she, she was like, she's a lovely [34:04] science teacher. [34:04] I love my conversations with her. [34:06] I love, oh, everyone not in Met and I look forward to this school year for my daughter. [34:12] Very exciting. [34:14] Good. [34:16] Thank you. [34:18] Oh, and on another note, because Tia was talking about, um, [34:26] So I love all the updates that I've been getting for the past two weeks. [34:30] Sometimes I get them twice, the same ones, but I don't care, I'll take it. [34:34] That way I know. I'm one of those people beating into my head. [34:38] So I look forward to more of those. [34:42] And that's it. [34:45] Awesome. [34:46] All right. Thank you again, Kevin. [34:48] Alex, anything from you, our student rep. [34:54] Alex, I do have a question. [34:55] Do you want, like, what meetings do you all have as far as, like, it's, I don't even know. [35:04] Um, I mean, sort of like any student board and student president, like, what meetings and how often are those? [35:10] By for me personally. [35:13] Yeah, for the high school itself. [35:15] Um, I have student council, which is pretty relevant. [35:19] Um, relevant, like every two weeks. [35:23] Okay. And then I have NHS, which is also like every two weeks. And then I'm in a couple of different clubs with a not as relevant. [35:32] Okay. So for student council, do you all have a part of your agenda or a part of your meeting in which there may be questions that you want to present to the school committee? [35:43] And if not, maybe that's something you may want to suggest to add. [35:48] Yeah, I've been working on creating a club that's called a communications club and [35:53] that would be having 12 students that basically do forms and talk to students, [35:59] gear what the student body wants, and then those students go for [36:03] and talk to these administrators and these representatives to get their ideas through. [36:11] Okay. [36:14] Okay. Great. And I'm sure pretty soon I forget we'll quarter or what time it is, but it's got some point in time. We'll get emails from that is that they hit the Citics class. [36:27] to the school committee and the town. And so I'm sure we'll get that pretty soon, but that's [36:33] that's something that's been done as well. Great, great, great, great. All right, and you're all [36:40] set Alex nothing else? Not the moment. Good, thank you for that though. Okay, so moving in just to the [36:47] community subcommittee reports. There meetings coming up so I know facilities not today, I'll just kind of jump to Natalie if you don't mind if you want to just give a brief update. [37:05] Sure. We met at our first facilities meeting today at 6 p.m. right before this meeting, [37:10] we met with Joe Sexton, our facilities director who provided us with a substantial update [37:15] of all the work that was done over the course of the summer and at every school. He and his team [37:22] just did so much to improve different things. We also had some help from the town who re- [37:30] We paved the parking lot at the JFK, which just looks fantastic. So a lot of work was done over the summer. All of the inspections were completed. Everything is up to date. [37:42] I'm trying to just brainstorm. [37:46] We also reviewed past capital requests for previous fiscal years. We did not have time to address current requests, but that's okay. There's still time to work on that. [37:56] We addressed things that are still pending information that he's gathered over his past six months here on the status of each of those requests, which is just substantial. [38:07] We discussed potentially moving some items around to better suit the needs of the district and the schools. [38:16] So, he is going to work with the school's team and the town on the best way to address that and forward. [38:25] He listened to some requests for Ms. Millwood on some lighting fixtures. [38:32] And so, thank you for that Ms. Millwood and, you know, we just welcome anyone that has concerns regarding facilities of the school district to join our facilities meetings and listen to the good word of Mr. Joe Sexton because he's great. [38:46] Yes, he had a wonderful PowerPoint slide going school by school. [38:51] It was great. [38:52] It was very informative. [38:53] And they have been busy. [38:54] And it's good to hear that they hired three new staff. [38:59] So that's great to add to the staffing to continue to support the schools throughout the school year. [39:07] Kevin, you had a question. [39:09] Your hand is up. [39:10] Yes, I'd like to know where we are with capital requests that the town council has already [39:18] I will send you the minute as soon as a dawn circulates those and Kirby are these meetings recorded. [39:27] Yes, subcommittee and full are recorded. I will send that to you Kevin so that you have it and you can rewatch. [39:33] Just so I don't spend time wasting the full school committee meeting reiterating everything that Mr. Sexton has discussed because he did. [39:40] We spent almost the entire hour discussing those capital requests. [39:44] Yeah, and just to say that those are also available on the website, too, for school [39:48] committees. [39:49] So now you have to worry about sending individual from Dawn, it can kind of just be a link from [39:53] the website. [39:56] But he did. [39:57] He did talk about that and we talked about the allocation, Lisa, you had to hand up at ICU. [40:02] No, and I forgot to bring it up during the meeting, Natalie, just to have on your radar, [40:08] the community preservation committee, voted to make some upgrades to the playground over a tower hill. [40:19] I don't know if any of that information has gotten over to us, but my understanding is the work that they were going to do on that playground would require them to actually double the size of that space, [40:31] which would then cause some issues with where we're parking the buses. [40:37] So I just want to make sure that for the facility subcommittee that we're keeping an eye on what's going on. [40:42] It has not officially come to the school committee yet. I don't know if you've heard anything [40:46] Natalie or Kirby. But that's that's something we should we should check in on. [40:54] Thank you, noted. We'll follow up. [40:58] For sure. [41:02] Sit for my facilities update next week. [41:05] Over third at the JFK. [41:07] For a tour of the JFK followed by a facility subcommittee meeting at six followed by a full full school committee meeting at seven. [41:14] I look forward to seeing everyone there. [41:16] Great. [41:17] And so for the other subcommittees negotiations, that's to be determined. [41:22] we are scheduled or slided to have or begin negotiations again and so there will be updates to that [41:31] as as everything it makes way governance. That's the first meeting will be September 17 at 6 p.m. [41:41] And then policy there's a meeting for the September 10th at 6 p.m. And with that I want to [41:47] and branch over to the policy or action items that we have to look into today. [41:53] And really there's only one at this point, right Dr. Stavelle as we talked about. [41:57] And that is the protection act. [42:03] Yes. [42:04] So the protect act is a result of Governor Haley putting out a new law. [42:14] I think it became law on August 5th and then it went to the Department of Secondary Education and so they released some guidance. [42:29] So technically we were supposed to have this act on our books as of September 1st, 2026. [42:36] We did not have a meeting and I actually did not receive the email guidance until August 28. [42:41] So I'm assuming we are not the only district in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who has missed the September 1st deadline. [42:50] So I submitted to the chair of policy and to the chair of the school committee, the policy that the MASC sent out. [43:02] And basically the Protect Act, for me, it's nothing new. [43:07] It's what we've been doing in Randolph. [43:08] If you remember when the immigration issues started hitting and ice was in Randolph, [43:16] we sent out communication to our staff and our families, probably back in February of March, [43:25] and saying that, you know, we don't allow ice in our buildings. [43:29] We protect our students. [43:30] We don't give out. [43:30] We don't even collect immigration information, [43:33] so we don't have it to give. [43:35] But that's basically what this protect act is, [43:38] it's saying that you cannot allow, [43:40] not just for immigration, but for any reason, [43:43] you cannot allow federal officials into your schools, [43:46] unless they have a judicial warrant, [43:49] or, you know, and so what we've done is, [43:53] we will send out that information again [43:56] that shows the picture of like, what a judicial warrant looks like, [43:59] versus like an administrative warrant and so that that's basically what this new law is saying. [44:07] So I submitted a policy to Lisa, who I has her hand raised. [44:13] I don't know if Lisa wants to comment on the protect act. [44:16] Yeah, one prior to that, I just want to make point to it has not gone to the policy subcommittee [44:21] for for the review as of yet but because the governor has placed a deadline on it, [44:27] That is why it's on the agenda up for a vote just so that we can remain in compliance in the whole goal or idea is to then push it down to [44:35] The policies of committee for further review and if the music update, it can be pushed back up to the full committee [44:42] All right, Lisa go ahead. I mean as the chair of the policy so committee I approve that the should move forward and so I am asking for a [44:51] motion to wave the three-read rule for policy ACL Massachusetts Protect Act, interacting with law enforcement officers engaged in civil law enforcement. [45:00] So a moment, seconded, [45:06] let's go down and give you the vote. Any discussion on it? Nothing. Oh, yeah, this is just the weaving. Excuse me. [45:14] Good afternoon. [45:15] Hi. [45:16] Ms. Millwood. [45:18] I, Mr. O'Connell. [45:21] I'm staying. [45:23] Ms. Question. [45:24] Yes. [45:25] And now I'd like to make a motion to approve policy, ACL, Massachusetts Protect Act Interacting at Law Enforcement Officers [45:32] engagement civil law enforcement. So moved. Second. Any discussion on all? I haven't had [45:44] a chance to read it. So with us dropping in three rule acts. I'm not going to be able [45:51] to vote on it. I understand. Thank you. [45:59] Yes. Ms. Oliveris. I. Ms. Millwood. Yes. This question. Yeah. [46:06] Yes. Mr. O'Connor. [46:08] It's stained. [46:10] Thank you. [46:21] And that's it. [46:22] That's it for all the action items. [46:24] So I'm moving to, I welcome a motion to approve the school committee in minutes of August 27th, 2026. [46:33] Can I get a microphone for that? [46:34] Thank you. [46:36] Second. [46:38] Second. [46:42] Miss Alaverick. [46:44] I. [46:45] Miss Millwood. [46:46] Yes. [46:47] Mr. O'Connor. [46:48] Yes. [46:48] question. Yes, thank you. Very. [46:57] Only committee comments at this time floors open to the committee to make an additional comments. [47:05] If [47:08] I can jump in, I wanted to give a major shout out to the Randolph High School band. [47:17] That is one seriously amazing group. [47:22] This is Emery's first year, but the high school, and she has had a beautiful start to [47:28] the school year. [47:30] Kudos goes out to the leadership team over at the high school. [47:33] They did a phenomenal job with student, a freshman orientation. [47:37] the other night. Great job putting the parents to work. I mean we had assignments. They had student [47:45] leaders there to volunteer to keep us rolling and keeping the parents organized. They separated [47:52] us from the kiddos. It was, it was a really, really good night. Not to mention to see so many friendly [47:58] faces up there. And then getting right back to the band. Number one, as a new band parent, [48:05] I have never felt more welcomed by a group of families and staff, the support that the kiddos are receiving is just absolutely amazing. [48:16] And I've never seen anybody so organized. [48:19] These guys got it down to sending you a link so that you can sync your calendar. [48:26] And so I have everything for the rest of the year already slowed into my calendar. [48:30] So they definitely know how to organize this, [48:33] I'll give them that. [48:34] So just want to say, great job starting the year off. [48:39] Great. [48:43] Okay. [48:44] No comments, Kevin, any comments, Alex, any comments? [48:50] And just for myself, I'm very excited for this year. [48:56] Our team is in place. [48:57] You know, there was a lot going on last year [48:59] and Doppersville has the team that she dreamed of. [49:03] one of those I want to say in place or Lisa's the dream team, whatever I'm calling it that. [49:11] And so I really feel confident that a lot of great work and great support is going to happen this year [49:18] and as long as we continue to stay in communication and just supporting the work of the superintendent [49:23] and the district, the kids, the families will be the successor of all of our efforts. [49:30] All right, and so I think you all again, and I will welcome a motion to adjourn. [49:35] It's all moved. [49:37] Second. [49:39] Thank you. [49:41] Ms. Salavera. [49:42] Aye. [49:43] Ms. Millwood. [49:45] Yes. [49:46] Mr. O'Connell. [49:47] Yes. [49:48] And Ms. Christian. [49:50] Yes, thank you all. [49:51] See you this 17th for the full committee and workshop. [49:55] Good night.
