Um the electric crew constructed the
[5:46] electric for the 10th Street extension
and they've been constructing some
[5:49] underground electric lines to provide
additional switching capabilities
[5:52] between some of the circuits.
Um,
[5:57] water department completed
summer hydrant flushing, it's performing
[6:01] maintenance.
Um, water usage has increased by over
[6:05] 25% over the last couple years, mainly
due to industrial consumption. So, we're
[6:10] looking into options to increase well
capacity to meet the needs of the city.

for the uh, utility commission, but
[6:38] there is one thing I want to make sure
to bring to the public's attention and
[6:42] address. Uh, we didn't vote to approve
anything, but it is kind of in the works
[6:46] what they may what they're proposing to
do.
[6:49] Um, and I was happy to vote no on, uh,
but went through anyway. What they're
[6:53] proposing to do is make it so that
if you have a solar electric project
[6:59] here in town, that the utility would
change the rate that they pay for the
[7:04] electricity you produce right now. And
in effect, what it would do is it make
[7:08] it so that the people that produce
electricity in town eventually, uh,
[7:13] would get paid or I guess the city would
make more money on the electricity they
[7:18] buy from the local residents than the
electricity that they buy from the other
[7:23] whippy contract that they're dealing
with. I think that it's important that
[7:27] we are all aware that this is a public
utility, that it is backed by the city,
[7:33] that it is backed by the citizens of
Reedsburg. And to me, it just doesn't
[7:36] seem right that we would pay a rate that
would make it so we would make more
[7:41] money off of them.
If you look in the fine print, they're
[7:45] justifying it by saying that we would be
paying similar electric rates, which
[7:50] technically is true, but it doesn't take
into any consideration for what it takes
[7:55] to bring the electricity here to the
doorstep. And that's the difference
[7:58] here. Right now we're buying electricity
delivered to Reedsburg for about 8 cents
[8:03] a kilowatt hour. We're paying out at 11
cents, which I can understand needing
[8:07] somewhat of a rate adjustment, but this
would bring it down to the 2 to 5 cent
[8:11] range. So, it would really
drastically change what we would pay out
[8:17] for energy made here in the city. I just
don't think that's right.
