[0:08] bringing you the wrap-up of the city
council meeting from this Monday, August
[0:11] 24th, 2026.
Business from the floor lasted from 6:03
[0:16] to 6:41 p.m. The evening featured the
council's decision on exceeding the
[0:21] revenue neutral rate of 21.948
for the 2027 fiscal year with the
[0:26] proposed mill levy of 23.267.
The council heard from four public
[0:31] speakers on the topic. On a roll call
vote, the council voted eight to zero to
[0:36] exceed the revenue neutral rate. City
Manager Paul Kramer provided a final
[0:40] review of the 2027 city budget and the
process to get to tonight's meeting.
[0:45] Ultimately, the council voted to approve
the proposed budget unanimously. The
[0:49] council also received a preview of the
city's 2027 community development block
[0:53] grant priorities, including public
facilities and improvements, public
[0:57] services, and housing rehabilitation.
The council also unanimously approved a
[1:02] staff to bid the 2027 street improvement
project of 51st street from Black Swan
[1:07] to Quivira with the completion of the
project's final plans. And the council
[1:12] voted eight to zero to approve annual
purchase of vehicles across four city
[1:16] departments, including six new patrol
units for the police department, a new
[1:19] F-550 pickup truck for the parks and rec
department, a new excavator for the
[1:24] public works department, and three new
staff SUVs for the community development
[1:29] department. City offices and the civic
center will be closed on Monday,
[1:33] September 7th for Labor Day, and the
city council will be back in session on
[1:37] Monday, September 14th, starting at 6:00
p.m. in council chambers here at city
