Dr. Martinez-Mill. Here. [0:32] So let's see if there's any public comment on our closed session agenda items. No? Great. Thanks. We'll go ahead and adjourn the closed session, and then we'll be back at 630. Thank you. [2:10] Great. Thank you. I welcome you back to [2:13] our board meeting tonight would like to report back from our closed session agenda and item. [2:21] The Board of Education has completed its evaluation of this superintendent. [2:26] There was a consensus among the board members. [2:29] The Dr. Baxter has been a tremendous leader this year. [2:33] And we are so pleased with what's been accomplished. [2:36] We thank you. [2:37] We're looking forward to our work together again with you next year. [2:42] and with that, and this evaluation, Dr. Baxter moves her step, moves over a step effective July 1, 2026. [2:55] And then with that, let's go ahead and please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance. [3:24] Great. Thank you. Are there, do we need to re-order the agenda at all? [3:31] We have no changes to the agenda. [3:33] Yeah. [3:33] Great. [3:34] Thank you. [3:35] And so with that, we'll move on to our presentation 4.01, California School Dashboard [3:41] Local Indicators. [3:51] Hear me right? [3:52] Oh, perfect. [3:53] There we go. [3:56] So, it's good to see everybody. [3:58] I'm Patty Cheetle, a coordinator in the Office of Instruction. [4:02] And I just, I'm here to give you a very short presentation. [4:05] This evening, I'm pleased to share the results of SPUSD's LCFF local indicators. [4:13] As you know, California's accountability system relies on multiple measures to evaluate school success. [4:21] While state data tracks academic assessment results, districts are required to evaluate and report, sorry. [4:27] Sorry, required to evaluate and report progress on LCFF state priorities where data is not connected or collected at the state level. [4:39] These local indicators allow us to reflect on our essential foundations including basic services, [4:46] the implementation of state standards, parent engagement, school climate, and access to a broad course of study. [4:53] This presentation serves to fulfill our annual public reporting requirement and [5:00] It offers a look at the strong baseline we've established for our students. These standards must be reported to the state as met and not met based on criteria established by the state. And I'm happy to report that we have met all the priority standards. Measurement of the local indicators is reported through the LCAP process. And after tonight's presentation, we take the information and then we enter it all into the dashboard. [5:30] Okay. [5:30] So now I'm just going to share some specifics about the priorities. [5:37] So the district has met priority one basic services. [5:41] Facility inspections confirm that all of our campuses are safe, clean, and in good repair. [5:47] Additionally, 100% of our students have access to standards aligned instructional materials for use at school and at home. [5:55] As well, the district has met priority two, implementation of state academic standards. [6:02] This indicator reflects our commitment to rigorous standards and academics. [6:07] Our instructional materials are fully aligned with California's academic standards across all core subjects. [6:15] Additionally, we have ensured that continuous standards align professional learning is provided to our teachers, [6:21] giving them the tools and strategies necessary to deliver high-quality instruction in every cluster. [6:32] Okay, [6:35] the district has also met priority three parent engagement. [6:39] This designation reflects our efforts to build positive and transparent relationships with our parents and guardians. [6:47] We seek input through a variety of committees and partnerships. [6:51] The district has also met priority six school climate. [6:54] A majority of students perceive their school environment as safe, and [6:59] feelings of school connectedness have improved across all student groups. [7:08] And then our last priority that we reflect on is priority seven. [7:13] We have also met priority seven, access to course study, let me adjust this a little bit, there we go. [7:20] Students at all educational levels are provided equitable access to and are enrolled in a broad course of study. [7:28] Over time, we have increased the number of available career, academic, and arts pathways. [7:34] We have also expanded dual enrollment opportunities through our partnership with Pasadena City College, [7:41] allowing students to earn college credit concurrently. [7:46] And that's actually, I said it would be a nice short presentation. [7:52] I know you've heard a lot of this and Christian probably shared with you during the LCAP. [7:57] And so this is just an opportunity to kind of close that out. [8:01] I know you're voting on approval for the LCAP. [8:04] So thank you very much. [8:06] Thank you, and thank you for all that you do. [8:10] Thank you. [8:11] Our district. [8:12] Thank you. [8:15] All right. [8:16] Actually, let me just ask, are there, this was a presentation? [8:20] Are there any questions? [8:24] No, just to echo your comment. [8:26] It is really good to see the things on the dashboard though, [8:29] because you can feel really good about the dashboard. [8:32] And you don't have to dig too deep way to know [8:34] that we're on the right track and just keeps us going. [8:36] So thank you for that. [8:38] We always like short to the point presentations. [8:44] Great, thank you very much. [8:47] Okay, we have no public hearing so we'll move [8:50] on to communications. [8:51] We'll start with visitor comments just a reminder [8:53] to keep your comments to three minutes [8:55] and the board will not be responding [8:58] or commenting in response to those comments. [9:03] So we'll start with our comment, [9:05] our one comment from Megan Kaiser. [9:11] Good evening, Bard. [9:13] I didn't plan on actually coming here this week [9:14] after seeing you last week, [9:16] but something actually happened this morning, [9:18] and that's the reason I'm here. [9:20] And unfortunately, I didn't catch that there was a mistake [9:23] in all of the preparations for hope to be able to trial days. [9:29] but you know it's been a heck of a week for us as a family since I saw you last [9:34] week my mother-in-law is back in the hospital my dad's about to go into chemo [9:38] again tomorrow and I haven't been able to be on top of the things that I [9:43] normally as a mother would be and tomorrow should be hopes trial days for or the [9:48] start of her trial days at prostate and at 9.51 this morning I got an email from [9:53] Nancy saying hey just a reminder Ms. Kaiser her trial days are tomorrow at this [9:58] at this point I have no time. I don't... [10:00] I don't know when it is, I don't know when she's supposed to be dropped off. At 10.03, I received an email from Frostig saying that she needs to be dropped off at 8.15 tomorrow and she needs to be picked up at 1.00 pm. I'm a mom with three children. I work full time. I have a very tough choice to make. And the choice that I have to make right now is between my son's neurology appointment, or hope being able to make it to Frostig and do this trial date because it's really important that my son [10:29] gets his ADHD medicine, and it's really important that I'm there, and he has that before [10:34] he starts his internship at PCC, and I'm so grateful to the high school teachers that [10:38] put him up for this internship. [10:40] That's really important to him, and I can't be in two places at once. [10:44] I can't. [10:45] So, unfortunately, I hope he's going to miss that trial day tomorrow, because I don't have [10:49] a choice as a parent, and I'm so frustrated that I keep speaking about how unfair this is [10:55] and how we're being treated unfairly and not being communicated with and I'm not trying [11:00] to be difficult. I'm not trying to not work with my district. I really, I'm not. But in [11:05] all of this, we're still having issues like this and it's not fair to our family anymore. [11:11] And we want to know when enough is enough and our board members will actually speak up and [11:16] figure out what's going on right now because none of this is right, none of this is about [11:21] my daughter's education. None of this is fair, what's happening to me and my family. [11:26] And it's not fair to be put in this position of making this choice. I can't ask my husband [11:31] to just all of a sudden call up from work tomorrow and risk his career and what puts food on [11:38] the plate. And I can't make this choice and be in two places at once. And I'm not trying [11:43] to make this more difficult and I'm not trying to make this hard on the district, but it's [11:47] not fair. It's not fair that the ball keeps being dropped, and I keep showing up, and I keep [11:54] coming to speak to you, and more and more things happen. And none of this is any of our fault, [11:59] and none of this is hope's fault. And it could cost her, her trial dates, her placement, [12:05] everything. And we still don't know where she's going in fall, and it's the most frightening situation [12:09] I've ever been in my life. And I really hope that you will find the time to speak up and help. [12:14] Great. [12:18] Thank you. [12:22] So we'll move on to board reports. [12:28] Ms. Adams, you pick me first. I'd love it. [12:33] While I am going to wish everybody a wonderful summer, I think there's, you know, I'd like [12:42] to say that you guys would all get some vacation time, and I hope you do, but I know there's [12:46] a lot going on behind the scenes here in the district, which is what really keeps us at [12:51] the tip top shape that we're in so thank you very much and I look forward to what the [12:59] next school year is going to bring. We have some you know exciting new opportunities [13:04] I think and things that we're delving into so that's great. [13:09] Great, thank you. [13:11] Dr. Murthy as well. [13:12] Of course good vacation wishes from me as well. It is a pleasure to know that we got [13:17] off to a good start with our summer school efforts. [13:20] And since I've got three grandkids doing three things [13:24] in all three places, it sounds good. [13:28] Nobody's called me to complain. [13:30] It doesn't get better than that when you have teenagers, right? [13:33] So, and we're just happy to be here. [13:36] Ended so well and very pleased that the full participation [13:41] of the board in the evaluation of our superintendent [13:44] And it was a positive experience, so thank you for that, everybody. [13:52] Great, thank you. [13:53] I think we'll just go ahead and move on to the superintendent's report. [13:57] Thank you. [13:59] Summer break is in full swing, and our colleagues from SPF jumped right in with energetic groups of students of all ages in their summer school classes. [14:07] The past two days, I've had the pleasure with Miss Grantee of visiting several of these classes. [14:12] And I want to give a special shout out to the staff, teachers, student volunteers, and [14:18] spec leadership for creating such creative and memorable summer experiences for students. [14:24] Today in a math class, I heard students working collaboratively and [14:28] one turned to the other and said, we haven't learned from that one over there. [14:33] She was referring to a math problem written on the board that the students hadn't had the opportunity yet to solve, but they were about to tackle it. [14:41] While down the hall, we were able to hear students practicing a medley from the musical [14:46] Wicked, and another highlight was visiting some of our youngest learners in the preschool [14:51] ESY and the K2ESY. [14:55] Seeing students grow and develop during the summer is always a highlight. [14:58] Thank you, Speth. [15:00] And we hope that everyone has a great summer and returns rested, recharged, and ready to learn on August 12th. Great. Thank you. Thanks to all who made that first day in this first week of huge success. So thank you. Is that our instructional update as well? Did you have something else? Yes. No. Okay. Human resources. [15:29] I just wanted to echo Dr. Baxter. [15:32] visiting the classrooms the last two days was a lot of fun and everyone was engaged in [15:38] smiling so those are all good things so I hope everyone also has some time to rest this summer [15:43] and get ready for next year. [15:46] Thank you and business services. Chris I mentioned tip top shape [15:51] and our facilities it takes many many many people I would like to acknowledge and think first [15:58] First, our custodian crews at all of our sites, they spend, you know, four or five weeks heading into promotion and graduation. [16:06] It looks great all year, but then they get it extra nice for graduation, and then summertime, you know, a lot of people ask school employees, [16:14] oh, must be great, you got to summer off, right? [16:16] Well, no, our custodians are working every bit as hard or harder than they do during the normal year because they have all of the deep cleaning to get done in the entire school. [16:24] So I'd like to first of all thank our custodians for the great job they do all year long, but particularly in the summer. [16:30] And then secondly our maintenance crew, Alfredo and his team, I'd like to acknowledge and thank them for all their hard work. [16:37] We've had some amazing community support that has brought our facilities to a great place, but [16:43] it also takes ongoing maintenance and all the sites to keep them looking as nice they do. [16:47] So I'd like to thank both of those groups for all they do. [16:51] Great. Thank you. And, you know, so much of this is about leadership, so Dr. Baxter, I think you have the dream team here sitting around the table. [17:02] With that, we will move on to consent agenda items. We have 21 items to have a motion. Or actually, let me stop. Would anyone like to pull one? [17:13] No, I move approval of consent items 0.8.01 through 8.21, and I'll second that. [17:25] Great, thank you, Ms. Girl. [17:27] Ms. Adams, aye. [17:28] Dr. Kipkin. [17:29] Aye. [17:29] Dr. Martinez Miller. [17:31] Aye. [17:33] Great. [17:34] We'll move on to our action items 9.01, the local control and accountability plan, 2026, 2027. [17:41] seven. Thank you. This is up tonight for approval as an action item. You've already heard [17:49] from the local indicators. Additionally, there was an LCAP presentation last board meeting [17:56] as well as the public hearing. So, this is up tonight for your consideration for approval. [18:01] Great to have a motion. I'll make a motion to approve. I will second. [18:06] All right, is there any discussion on this item? [18:15] Only to say again that it was very nice to have the presentation last week. [18:20] It's a tremendous amount of work to put it together. [18:23] And though, she's the lucky one who's on vacation today. [18:27] Christian Trevez gets a lot of kudos for pulling it all together, [18:32] as if it were easy and he is not. [18:36] Absolutely. Thank you. [18:41] I will move on to 9.02, the adopted budget, Mr. Loops, I know you made a thorough, comprehensive [18:50] presentation last week. [18:52] Yes, the district has met all of its statutory obligations with regard to posting in local [18:57] papers with regard to the budget being available with regard to the public hearing held last [19:02] week as well as a presentation detailing the budget. [19:05] But here it is before you for approval, and as I spoke about last week, this is with the information that we have as of today. [19:13] The California budget has not passed, everything will be different one way or the other when we get the first interim in the fall. [19:20] But where we stand today, we're in an okay spot, and I request approval, please. [19:24] Thank you, and again, thank you for all the work you do. [19:27] Do I have a motion? [19:28] I will gladly make the motion to approve the adopted budget, and I will happily second it. [19:33] Okay. Any further discussion on this item? [19:37] That was a kill. [19:38] His items. [19:39] Aye. [19:39] Dr. Kipke? [19:40] Aye. [19:41] Dr. Martin is going to. [19:42] Aye. [19:43] Okay. [19:44] So 9.03 resolution 2025 to 2026-21 assignment of delinquent tax [19:52] receivables to the California Statewide Delinquent Tax Finance Authority. [19:59] Yes. [19:59] This is the J. [20:00] The district has belonged, belonged in or it's been billies for when people do not pay their property taxes. And so this JPA of the property taxes that this is something that I believe most districts participating, this district has participated in and it is to our financial benefit to do so. I request approval of resolution. [20:18] and tuition of this resolution. [20:22] Any further discussion? [20:24] Seems like a smart thing to do. [20:26] Yeah. [20:27] Present. [20:28] Aye. [20:29] Dr. Crypti. [20:29] Aye. [20:30] Dr. Martinez-Millen. [20:31] Aye. [20:33] And our last action item is 4.0. [20:36] I'm sorry, 9.04. [20:38] Board policy 4119.24, maintaining appropriate adult student [20:43] interactions, it's grunting. [20:45] Yes, thank you. [20:46] This policy was brought to the board last week for the first reading and there have been some slight adjustments to the wording as requested and we are now recommending approval for policy 4-1-1-9.24. [20:59] Thank you. [21:01] I will go ahead if you'd like. [21:04] I'll make the motion to approve. [21:06] And I will second it was great thanks to you for listening carefully and getting the stuff in that we cared about so thank you for that. [21:13] Absolutely. [21:13] Thank you. [21:15] Any further discussion? [21:17] Let's go. [21:18] Is that him? [21:19] Aye. [21:20] Dr. Kipki? [21:21] Aye. [21:22] Dr. Ritesen. [21:23] Aye. [21:24] All right. [21:25] Well, with that, we will not have a meeting next board meeting next month. [21:30] We'll be back in August and I will adjourn this meeting.
