[1:38] We acknowledge that we are in the traditional homeland of the Kalapuya
[1:41] people, specifically the community that was known as Chifen,
[1:45] the area that we now call Springfield.
[1:48] Kalapuya people, who have lived in this region since time
[1:51] immemorial, were illegally dispossessed of their land and forcibly
[1:54] removed to what are now the Grand Ronde and Siletz reservations over
[1:58] several years, but most notably in treaties between 1851 and
[2:02] 1855. The Kalapuya are now members of the
[2:06] Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of
[2:10] Siletz Indians, and members of the Kalapuya still live,
[2:14] work, study, and thrive in this area and continue to make important
[2:18] contributions here in Springfield, across the land we now refer to as
[2:22] Oregon, and around the globe. This information is shared out of a
[2:25] responsibility to prevent the erasure of Native culture,
[2:29] heritage, and people, and to ensure a quality contemporary education
[2:32] for future generations.
