[0:00] But the best fire call we make is the [0:02] one that we can prevent. And so I'm [0:05] really proud of the the men and women [0:06] that we that serve for us and what they [0:10] do to actually help us do that. And we [0:12] do a lot of things from community risk [0:14] reduction, fire prevention, code [0:16] enforcement. It's one of the biggest [0:17] ones we do. But it's it's not just me or [0:22] fire chief. It's all of them. And so, [0:25] uh, we just want everybody to take time [0:27] to do just take a few minutes, go home, [0:30] check your smoke alarm, [0:32] identify some hazards, you know, just [0:35] those little things can save a life. And [0:37] it's simple. And so, that's all we're [0:40] asking. And so, this year's theme is [0:43] charging the fire safety. So, it's kind [0:46] of still leaning towards the battery [0:48] charging of, you know, some of the [0:50] hazards involved in that. And so, that's [0:52] what we're going out. These crews have [0:53] been busy all week seeing all the kids [0:56] and I'm sure they're pretty tired right [0:58] now. So, but as we move on, uh, that's [1:01] all I got to say today. [1:04] >> Everyone come on up. Uh, the our great [1:06] fire department and our CFAA, everybody [1:09] come on up for the proclamation. [1:33] Hi council chamber is muted. Can you [1:35] please unmute? [1:49] Okay, I think we got everybody out. So, whereas the city of Sugarland [1:54] recognizes October 2026 as fire [1:57] prevention month, including the national [2:00] observance of fire prevention week from [2:02] October 4th through 10th to raise [2:04] awareness of the importance of fire [2:07] safety prevention and preparedness in [2:10] protecting lives and property. And [2:12] whereas the 2026 theme, charge into fire [2:16] safety, safe charging is a superpower, [2:19] highlights the importance of safe [2:22] everyday charging habits and encourages [2:24] residents to understand how the proper [2:27] use and care of lithium ion batteries [2:30] can help reduce the risk of fires in our [2:33] homes and communities. And whereas the [2:36] city of Sugarland commends the dedicated [2:39] members of our Sugarland Fire Department [2:42] for their continued commitment to fire [2:44] prevention, public education, and [2:47] protecting the safety and well-being of [2:49] our community. Now therefore, I, Carol [2:53] McCutchen, on behalf of the members of [2:55] city council and by the virtue of the [2:57] authority vested in me as mayor of [2:59] Sugarland, do hereby proclaim October 26 [3:03] as fire prevention month in the city of [3:06] Sugarland. Citizens who wish to address [4:37] the city council regarding action items [4:39] on the agenda will have three minutes to [4:41] speak. Linda, has anyone signed up uh to [4:44] speak? [4:46] >> Yes, mayor. We have three comment cards. [4:48] However, those their topics were not on [4:51] the posted agenda. [4:53] >> Okay. Okay. Well, public comment is now [4:56] closed. Next item is seven, consent [5:00] agenda. All items listed on the consent [5:02] agenda are considered routine and will [5:04] be enacted by one motion. Is there a [5:06] council member who'd like to pull an [5:08] item? [5:10] >> Okay. So, I have a motion by council [5:11] member Watley, second by council member [5:13] Vandar. I went to the Mother Land uh [5:49] cycling event on Saturday morning, [5:51] bright and early in the dark. It was a [5:52] great event. People from all over the [5:54] world were there to support the cyclist. [5:57] Was really great. [5:58] >> Thank you, Council Vanderhar. [6:02] >> That one. [6:02] >> Don't know which one he's supposed to [6:04] use. I'll make it quick as well. Uh, I [6:05] along with a couple of other members of [6:07] the council, I'll let them speak for [6:08] themselves, attended the Sugarland [6:10] Police Department officer development [6:12] graduation where we had two new police [6:14] officers graduate and join our our force [6:16] and they now are um part of a very elite [6:19] group. So, thank you. [6:21] >> Thank you, Council Member Jacobson. [6:24] >> Thank you, Mayor. Uh, most of my stuff [6:26] has been or will be said. [6:28] >> Council Bcher. [6:29] >> Thank you, Mayor. Uh in the last couple [6:32] weeks we had the uh pleasure to [6:33] celebrate Miss Anne Russo's 102nd [6:35] birthday. I know Councilman Jacobson was [6:37] there with me. Uh it was wonderful. We [6:40] also did the latter seven pushin. I [6:42] think all council was at that one. Uh [6:44] did the mayor and council dinner in [6:46] Rosenberg at the ppen fairgrounds. The [6:48] mayor and I opened up the splash pad at [6:50] the new park. And of course cosmic [6:52] baseball happened at the constellation [6:53] field. [6:54] >> Thank you council member Watley. Okay. I [6:57] forgot we did all those things. So, what [6:59] they said and I went to the Traumantina [7:02] warehouse sale and you guys got to go. [7:04] District one shines, y'all. Thank you. So, I was excited about that [7:32] and I attended a reception for the 2026 [7:35] Women Who Mean Business Honores. So, [7:37] city manager, [7:39] >> no report mayor.
