we're getting them approximately a month
[5:32] after I ordered them, which is fabulous.
Way faster than I've ever received them
[5:37] before. Uh summer reading has been going
really great. We will actually wrap up
[5:43] summer reading program on July 29th. I
think that's Yeah, it's a Wednesday. And
[5:49] I just found out today that we might be
able to do a small school supply
[5:54] giveaway that day. Uh we'll limit the
items to a certain number per person
[5:59] that comes into the library. Maybe five
five items per person that comes in for
[6:05] our summer reading program that day. But
I I'm just working out all the details
[6:08] since the person who is donating those
just contacted me today and said they
[6:14] would definitely be able to have them
within two weeks by the time we have
[6:17] that summer reading program. Today we
had Santa John and we um celebrated a
[6:24] special Christmas in July story time.
His wife Mrs. Claus wrote a new book
[6:29] about snowflakes that she shared with
our patrons and we had a really good
[6:33] turnout for that. Normally it's a small
crowd, but we had about 29 people come.
[6:38] So that really surprised me. Um and and
that was good for such a kind of niche
[6:44] event to have at the library, especially
on a Thursday morning. Um we do have a
[6:50] great turnout for our Tuesday morning
story time. We have 30, 40, 50 people
[6:54] come every single week for that. So, but
um other story times sometimes it's a
[7:00] little hit or miss how many people will
attend. And we also had yesterday we had
[7:05] Bonnie Kes is doing some financial
literacy um trainings for us at the
[7:10] library and she started off yesterday
with one with the children called
[7:14] growing money. It's a Baron Stain Bears
program that they have and it's about
[7:18] saving and she did a great job and I do
want to highlight that she'll be back in
[7:24] August at the end of August on the 26th
with a financial literacy program called
[7:29] building a better budget and then from
those um
[7:34] programs that she does, she will do
other programs as well based off of what
[7:38] the community wants to hear about. So it
might be, you know, how to purchase your
[7:44] first home or how to save for your
children to go to college or whatever
[7:48] the community wants. She will tailor
those financial literacy programs for
[7:53] what the community is wanting to learn
more about. And she does a great job and
[7:58] a lot of you probably already know her
because she does every outreach outreach
[8:02] event that I go to, she's there. Um, we
also have tomorrow is Filmer Food Pantry
[8:08] Day. Donations have been good though.
Um, but back when I planned this a month
[8:13] and a half ago, which is how far in
advance I plan our calendar, uh, it was
[8:17] getting a little low. So, we're still
going to have our food pantry day
[8:21] tomorrow because we'll you'll use the
donations. They always go, but I will
[8:26] say I'm I'm pleased that our community
has really stepped up this whole entire
[8:30] summer and we've done a great job
supplying food for our community. Uh,
[8:35] let's see what else we have. Children's
and Music and Movement used to be a
[8:38] Friday morning program. Uh Miss Jenny
now has a full-time job during the week.
[8:43] So, she has moved those to Saturdays.
So, they're on Saturday mornings once or
[8:48] twice a month. She normally does almost
every other, but uh for July, she'll do
[8:52] a special mermaid story time in two
weeks time instead of a children's music
[8:57] and movement. So, she does a lot of
really special events for us as well.

>> and we tend to get a good turnout for
[9:03] those, but it has been an adjustment
going from Fridays to Saturdays. So,
[9:07] it's a little bit of a different crowd.
Um, next week on Wednesday, July 15th,
[9:12] we have a library library love book
drive. The purpose of that is to
[9:17] replenish all the books we've been
giving away for our summer reading
[9:20] program. So, every 10 books that a child
reads, they get a free book all summer
[9:25] long. And every five books that a teen
or a young or an adult reads, they get a
[9:31] free book also involved. We have tons of
adult prizes, by the way. There, that's
[9:35] never a problem. But the children's
books go very quickly. Um, so I'm doing
[9:41] like a replenishment for that. And then
whatever doesn't get used up this month,
[9:47] we will save for next summer. So I spend
a whole year collecting those prizes.
[9:53] And um so we might build this library
love book drive in maybe quarterly to
[9:58] help get really great prizes for our
children. And we did get a lot of
[10:02] compliments this year on the prizes that
we've had and the books that we've had
[10:05] for them. So that's been great. Um Mayor
Mree Reading Club is now meeting on
[10:11] Thursdays and July 23rd is also
>> National Vanilla Ice Cream Day. So we
[10:17] will give away ice cream
>> um to everybody who attends their M cru
[10:22] story time that day.
>> Uh so we love to do special events and
[10:26] our friends of the library um has no
problem covering special little treats

basically how that works is through our

goes into the friends and then the
[10:40] friends in turn gives it right back to
us to do special little events and

about that. Um, my team worked really
[10:49] hard this summer. We were down a 10-hour
position all summer long and they really
[10:55] stepped up and did a great job with
working extra hard all summer long,
[11:00] including today when I left them there
and I'm just so proud of them. So, we do
[11:05] have a position posted right now and the
only way to apply for that is online.

office and then they forward them to me.

session. Um September 10th, formalize

10th, this is also optional. I just gave
[18:06] it there for if council decides to
create this. Establish and nominate
[18:11] persons to be on a special committee to
advise on proposed changes.
[18:17] and then advertising a public hearing in
our leaving Oregon by September 13th. Uh
[18:22] October 1st, if we do decide to have any
kind of special committee, uh hold an
[18:27] open meeting in a public hearing and
offer their recommendation to council.

consecutive weeks from October 14th to
[18:36] November 4th. Then on November 5th, full
public hearing on the notes of intent
[18:42] and then on December 10th, uh for vote
on the proposal itself.

come to the cities if they are

and look at your ideas and what you're

application for by the end of this month
[32:47] which Drew and I are going to be working
on and hopefully we will do that and
[32:50] then if we become a big community
be really great um after the three-year
[32:57] period we can stay on as an alumni and
still get those benefits of funding and
[33:01] grants and and so it's it's I know
Monroe is a big community and there's a
[33:06] lot of other communities that are also
involved and it's been very good for
[33:11] them but it has some examples of cities
too in that can I say something about
[33:16] this? Um, this is one of those examples
of how uh going to training and further
[33:23] education really benefits our city. Uh,
this is something we brought back from
[33:28] small cities conference
this year and I'm
[33:33] really happy to see us taking this

[33:40] mind, I know at a previous meeting I
said uh, council members um, need to be
[33:46] taking a look at committees or a
committee they would like to serve on. I
[33:50] know you Maxine, you're serving on the
finance committee. I am going to be
[33:54] serving on the community involvement and
working with Miss Lynn Fer on community
[33:58] events. um this DIC um possibility is
another community or committee that
[34:07] somebody can serve on. So um that's
there if you're interested.

with this. Um so it's primarily
[34:16] residential
>> or it's a lot of residential, but it's a
[34:20] lot of um infrastructure planning,
commercial, all stuff. They they bring
[34:26] in experts from all different areas.

[34:36] um another thing to keep in mind, I'm
going to be planning a retreat for
[34:40] council which I talked about before with
Shane Short um speaking on um
[34:47] development of the city and Jay's going
to be there talking about a few items
[34:51] and then we also asked Joe to speak
about um planning and zoning and things
[34:56] to look at and things to uh where to
look for ordinances and what to look
[35:00] for. Um just a little training that we
can get done. We're going to invite our
[35:04] planning and zoning commission to come
to that too. Awesome. So, I will keep
[35:08] you guys updated with that. I'll be
getting in touch about good dates for
[35:11] everybody. Um the retreating the
comprehensive plan update is ongoing. I
[35:17] left you a flyer for open houses. The
survey is open until July 14th if you
[35:22] want to. I encourage people to fill that
out. the um steering committee next
[35:28] meeting will be on August 3rd if
anybody's interested. Everybody's always
[35:31] welcome to come at 10:00 a.m. on August
3rd at the new county courthouse up on
[35:37] the third floor and you get off the
elevator just right there. Um and we
[35:42] talk about all different aspects of the
the comprehensive plan. That's that. And
[35:49] then last but certainly not least is the
250 celebration. And I just want to say
[35:53] kudos to Lynhur for all your hard work
in getting in those vendors with not one
[35:59] single scent that by the city that uh
it's basically unheard of and we had
[36:05] some a great turnout. I think some
people said over a thousand people came
[36:10] even with a little storm before us. So
thank goodness for that storm for the
[36:13] weather.

Um it was just a great event and we are
[36:22] very very fortunate to have that growar
