[5:20] parents and parents launched our back-to-school chalk art at the Guadalupe Elementary School in the

[5:27] Rose Park community in Salt Lake City. Next slide, please.

[5:33] The colorful chalk murals are attention

[5:36] grabbing for the kids, but they serve an important message and reminder for parents and caregivers

[5:43] to talk with their kids about not drinking alcohol under age. Next slide.

[5:50] We utilized several professional artists for the various activations along the

[5:56] Wasatch Front areas. This was the person that did the activation here at the

[6:01] Guadalupe School. Next slide. And then these are just a few examples of the

[6:08] different Chocard at other schools around the Wasatch Front. Next slide. So there

[6:15] There are eight schools at some of the works we produced here.

[6:23] Eight schools participating, they are both elementary and middle schools.

[6:27] And in addition to the chalk art, a digital campaign will continue using paid and organic social media posts.

[6:35] And I'd like to thank Regina Esparza, the D.A.B.S.'s commissive comms manager for creating

[6:45] the social posts for the D.A.B.S. So if you get a chance to take a look, it's really a

[6:48] fun post. Thank you, Regina. In addition, just a quick note about the media coverage.

[7:00] outlets attended the conference, including Telemundo. So that was very nice to have

[7:07] the great showing of support. Next slide. This is an example of some of the

[7:14] chalk art messages. And next slide. And then we have a few collateral pieces of

[7:22] what you have in front of you. We've got a fun little patches to keep

[7:25] patches that you can, I don't know, throw on your fridge. And then little key

[7:29] change for the kids back back. And these are just little, we call them teachable

[7:34] moments, right? For you to recognize and have a nice little conversation about

[7:40] no underage drinking with your child. And we understand the key change is really

[7:44] popular with the kids to put on their back back. So just kind of a fun little collateral

[7:49] item for them. So please help yourself if you need some more. I've got more of

[7:53] those. Okay. And then I'd like to say just a big

[7:58] super shout-out to Commissioner Vice-Chair Terazon. She let out our launch at the Guadalupe

[8:05] Center, spoken Spanish as well as English and just really did a terrific job. So we thank

[8:12] you very much Vice-Chair for taking the time to be there. Telemundo came a little bit late, so

[8:18] we actually had to call Vice-Chair back and she came back all the way from wherever she left to

[8:25] and did a nice little interview in Spanish with them.

[8:28] So that was very nice of you to be there

[8:30] and fantastic work.

[8:33] We also had the principal of the Guadalupe School Speak

[8:35] and just another side note.

[8:38] She was very open to the fact that we come back

[8:41] and maybe they do a lot of work in the community.

[8:44] They have a lot of after school programs there.

[8:47] They teach English and whatnot

[8:49] and great parenting group there.

[8:51] So we've been invited to go back and talk more

[8:54] or about our parents and power program

[8:57] and how they might benefit from that.

[8:59] So that was a great opportunity to be there.

[9:04] Okay, and then lastly, I'd like to show

[9:06] if we can get it to play a quick video clip,

[9:11] Let's hope for that.

[9:12] There's some power to initiative is bringing colorful murals

[9:15] to eight different schools,

[9:17] including the Guadalupe Center School

[9:19] in Salt Lake City's Rose Park neighborhood.

[9:22] The artwork is designed to be a conversation starter for families.

[9:27] Organizers say parents should start talking to their children about the dangers of alcohol as early as nine years old.

[9:35] They say these murals make it easier to bring up the topic.

[9:40] They listen to their parents more than anybody else.

[9:42] They're influenced by their parents more than anybody else.

[9:45] And so we want to have those conversations.

[9:47] there's data that shows that parents aren't talking to their children about it and those that do

[9:51] have better outcomes. The campaign encourages parents to visit parentsempowered.org for tips on

[9:58] how to start these talks. The Parents Empowered Initiative is bringing... Okay, that's it. Thank you

[10:56] Thank you, Chair Handi. Good morning commissioners and everyone. So I have two reports today.

[11:02] Last last month in July, I said I would give the final report for period 13, which has now closed.

[11:09] The revenues for period 13 were already included in period 12.

[11:14] The expenses for period 13 were about $5.5 million, but that was a decrease of about 9.2 percent from last year.

[11:23] And for the fiscal return to the general fund, that's still to be determined as a state finance, a state finance is still making their final entries.

[11:31] And then for period one for the end of July, the revenues for the period one ended in about 20.3 million, which is a decrease from last year of a three about 3.5%.

[11:44] Expenses for that period were 4.8 million and an increase of about 167%.

[11:53] That's due mostly to the salary increase because they fall in different periods and cut off times.

[12:03] And then during the month of July, we generated $152,457,000 for the Pamela Acts and homeless fund.

[12:11] And on a whole, the DABS was better than the same period last year by returning approximately 15.3 million to the general fund or about 6.5% more than the same period last year.

[12:57] So even though our revenues in both period 13 and period 1 look like they're decreasing

[13:05] year over year. It looks like the net profit general funds transfer increased in both periods year over year.

[13:15] So can you explain to me how that work while revenue is decreasing, but general fund transfer is increasing?

[13:23] Well,

[13:25] expense control, maybe.

[13:27] Expense control, the expenses were down this year, over last year.

[13:38] Okay, go ahead.

[13:40] We see some variations depending on what expenses we have and don't have over the year as far as what we return.

[13:48] We're still pretty flat, which we've talked about over the year, about a 1% increase is what we're looking at.

[13:54] The other thing to keep in mind though is we are finalizing final return numbers with the division of finance right now

[14:00] So we will have more secure numbers for in the coming weeks as they close out everybody's fiscal year

[14:06] But the the number to pay attention to is that 1% that sort of flat for the year

It's got a really great background to come in and kind of hit the ground running. And he has done so. I've told him it's a fire hose and he's taken it pretty well. So really excited to have him on board.

[17:05] A couple of things I'd like to bring to your attention this morning from the past few

[17:10] weeks.

[17:11] Recently, on August 11th, we hosted a retail manager's leadership conference at the capital for all

[17:20] 52 DABS retail store managers, which also included Commissioner Evans, the retail leadership

[17:27] team DHRM partners, division directors from DEBs, consumer purchasing and merchandising,

[17:33] and the Warehouse Distribution Center. And our tiny MIT communications team out there,

[17:41] we love you. We appreciate all of our partners and stakeholders being involved

[17:48] in this leadership conference. It was hosted at the State Capital.

[17:53] Still, store managers had a guided tour of the capital building.

[17:59] It was a bit of a civics in history lesson, and we visited the House, the Senate, and

[18:04] the Supreme Court chambers.

[18:06] Most importantly, however, we reviewed and discussed core leadership focuses for this next

[18:13] physical year and moving forward.

[18:16] A couple of those focus areas included building a strong personal brand by making impactful first impressions.

[18:26] What's your personal brand, right? And we talked about how to define that and why it's so important.

[18:33] And then also something a little bit funny, but leading like a farmer.

[18:37] And we know that our products start from a farm somewhere, right?

[18:43] Right?

[18:44] Alcoholic products start somewhere from farming, and so we thought that was appropriate.

[18:49] Cultivating excellence and team engagement through the ideas of careful pruning, patients,

[18:56] and encouraging growth among teams, it's very parallel, and they all sort of grasp onto

[19:02] it.

[19:02] Some of our store managers are farmers, so it was really fun to engage in that discussion,

[19:08] and then linking increased employee engagement directly to enhanced customer service experiences.

[19:15] The feedback was positive, great responses from store managers and other participants.

[19:21] The store managers expressed appreciation for DAB's push to raise standards and strengthen accountability,

[19:27] empowering them to transition from operational task managers to true team mentors.

[19:33] The managers also voice that they appreciate and feel that they're actively being heard across every level of the department.

[19:42] So we appreciate that we receive that feedback and we're moving in the right direction.

[19:49] Second of all, I'm happy to announce this or to share this publicly.

[19:55] The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services earned top honors for customer service satisfaction among all executive branch.

[20:03] agencies. So, you know, by itself on the back. As the backbone of our operation, our dedicated

[32:17] and give a special recognition in the commission meeting for Utah's first ever Michelin-starred restaurant.

[32:26] For those of you who follow the food and restaurant scene, we have our first ever Michelin-starred restaurant here in Utah.

[32:35] It's called Monty. It's in South Salt Lake inside the Beehive Distilling Building.

[32:40] I just want to say this is a huge milestone for the restaurant itself and

[32:45] congratulations to the chef and the owners there. But this is also a huge

[32:50] recognition for Utah and for our food scene. I think being on the commission we

[32:57] see a lot of the applications coming before us and you know you kind of get

[33:01] excited and hope it works out. But to have this level of recognition from Michelin

[33:08] is just a recognition of, you know, the exceptional food, the scene, the thoughtfulness and the innovation

[33:16] that we're able to facilitate through a DABS. So, I wanted just to take a minute, congratulate

[33:24] Monty and their whole team. I can't wait to get a reservation, but I'm probably going to have to wait

[33:31] a few months now. So Chair, thanks for the opportunity to do that.

[33:38] That's really, really neat that you'd call that on. I saw that story as well,

[34:21] about plans moving forward and we just appreciate that Mary is keeping us

[34:26] organized and is being very methodical in her in her work with audits and so

[34:32] we'll keep we'll keep this committee posted and I guess the ask would be of

[34:37] course I mean of course you can always work directly with Mary or with Erica or

[34:42] any of the D.A.B.S. team but I think commissioner to commissioner Tara's on and

[34:46] myself would also be willing if you know you as commissioners have questions like

[34:50] we can we can bring them to marry for you. So that is so.

[37:11] businesses that we interact with interact with, a huge improvement, and led the licensing

[37:17] and compliance team for a long time.

[37:19] And then in the last year he's really done a great job taking a broad look at our operations

[37:24] and implementing vast improvements.

[37:27] So I'm going to miss you yesterday so I'm going to miss you personally and professionally and it still holds through, but I am really excited for for you to move and for what's next for you.
