Hello and welcome to city edition. The city events video news magazine I'm just in fine stone. Good news for the surface water project. It's coming in under budget and after years of planning, construction is set to get underway.
[0:15]
The surface water project is currently entering the construction phase. We are 100% complete on design on the intake and the pipeline.
[0:24]
We are currently awaiting final approval from the U.S. Forest Service on our special use permit,
[0:29]
which we're going to anticipate receiving some time mid-October.
[0:32]
There's a number of other permits involved with this project that are also pending,
[0:37]
and we hope to also receive those by the end of September.
[0:41]
We do have the county building permit in hand, as well as the Department of Environmental Quality
[0:47]
in-stream water work permit.
[0:49]
We're working with federal agencies, primarily the forest service, but also Army Corps of Engineers because of their jurisdiction in waters of the state or working with the Department of State lands for our
[1:02]
Phil permits because we're working in wetlands and waterways. So we have a lot of those are just two of the primary agencies we're working with, but we have a lot of permit requirements.
[1:11]
The intake and the pipeline have been completed in terms of design 100 percent.
[1:17]
We are now moving to the construction phase of those projects.
[1:21]
Council has approved the funding and authorized the guaranteed maximum price with our CMGC
[1:27]
contractor Mortensen back in April of this year.
[1:30]
We anticipate that the steel pipe for the project will begin arriving sometime in the first week of October.
[1:37]
The filtration in Hydro have been placed on pause by the City Council.
[1:43]
City Council has asked us to go and reevaluate our options for treatment, which City
[1:48]
staff anticipates having complete some time late this year.
[1:53]
The Hydro element of the project will be reevaluated sometime in 2014.
[1:59]
Well, filtration is important both because of the cryptospirting and water quality regulations,
[2:05]
But it's even more important for us here in Ben because of the threat of fire in our watershed.
[2:10]
As we currently have this poultry fire going on in sisters, and if it was just a little further
[2:15]
south or a turn for their south and got into our watershed, it could quickly destroy our ability
[2:21]
to use our surface water without filtration in place.
[2:24]
The reason why we are under budget is in large part due to the bidding environment that exists
[2:30]
today for construction. We got very good prices both in terms of labor for installing the
[2:36]
pipe as well as manufacturing the pipe. Our permits are in order and our pipeline both
[2:42]
HTTP and seal pipeline is expected to be arriving in the September early October. Looking into
[2:49]
the future, we see that we will be under construction here in October. We anticipate the pipeline
[2:56]
construction, lasting well through next spring, and the intake construction really wrapping up
[3:03]
not until late next fall.
