[2:53]
Thank you, Mayor
City Council. Thank you for giving me
[2:57]
the opportunity to speak this evening.
It's always an honor to stand before you
[3:01]
and share positive developments within
the group police department and this
[3:05]
evening is no exception.
Thank you for your support of our
[3:10]
department. It means a lot to us. We
truly appreciate each one of you.
[3:15]
At this time, I'm proud to introduce
three new group police officers who
[3:21]
gradu graduated from the Alabama Police
Academy in Selma, Alabama on December
[3:26]
4th, 2025.
These men have demonstrated the
[3:30]
discipline, integrity, and commitment to
excellence that is required to join our
[3:36]
profession. They represent the next
generation of service for our community.
[3:42]
Officers Joshua Gunner, Christopher
Cwley, and Tyrese Nicholson have each
[3:46]
completed an intensive 14week academy
program
[3:52]
that tested them academically,
physically, and mentally. They finished
[3:57]
that journey not only successfully, but
with the professionalism and maturity we
[4:02]
expect from those who wear our badge.
Over the past several months, they have
[4:07]
trained in constitutional law, crisis
response, defensive tactics, firearms,
[4:13]
emergency vehicle operation, and most
importantly, the responsibilities that
[4:18]
come with protecting the public they
serve. They understand that being a
[4:23]
police officer is more than enforcing
the law. It's about earning the public's
[4:28]
trust, building relationships, and
showing up every day with integrity and
[4:34]
respect. every person they encounter.
All three of these officers
[4:39]
distinguished themselves among their
peers during their time at the police
[4:43]
academy. Each assumed a leadership role
within their class and earned individual
[4:49]
recognition upon graduation.
Officer Gunner
[4:55]
Officer Gunner was selected by his peers
to serve as class president, a position
[5:00]
that reflects the respect and trust he
earned throughout his training.
[5:06]
Officer Cwley.
Officer Cwley was chosen as the class
[5:11]
guide on bear and also received the top
physical fitness award, demonstrating
[5:16]
both leadership and exceptional
dedication to physical readiness.
[5:21]
Officer Nicholson
Officer Nicholson served as class
[5:26]
sergeant-at-arms and was awarded the
commander award.
[5:30]
This award is the highest honor bestowed
to a student officer at the Police
[5:34]
Academy
recognizing Officer Nicholson's
[5:37]
professionalism, discipline, and overall
performance.
[5:44]
[applause]
[5:48]
Each of these officers bring unique
strength to our department. Their
[5:53]
energy, eagerness to learn, and
dedication to their community will
[5:57]
strengthen our mission and support the
continued safety of our city.
[6:03]
In the coming weeks, they will continue
our field training program, working
[6:06]
alongside senior officers to apply what
they've learned to real world
[6:10]
situations.
I am confident they will rise to every
[6:14]
challenge placed before them.
Mayor, council members, thank you for
[6:18]
your continued support of our department
and making possible for us to recruit
[6:24]
and develop officers of the highest
caliber.
[6:27]
Our community is safer and stronger
because of you.
[6:32]
Please join me in welcoming officer
Gunnar, Officer Cwley, Officer Nicholson
[6:38]
to the Brook Police Department. I'm very
proud of each of them and I know they
[6:42]
will serve this city with integrity and
honor.
[6:46]
[applause]
[6:51]
And at this Now I'll ask our officers to
step forward and I'll
[6:56]
post office
[7:21]
of
[7:35]
faithfully honestly
[7:46]
Father,
[8:20]
I wasn't
[8:26]
Congratulations.
[9:08]
It's always good to have an informative
meeting here today.
[9:12]
So, all right. So, thank you, Elizabeth,
for letting me know. Okay. So, uh I need
[9:21]
a approval of the abatement of the
nuisance to the damage. You know,
[9:26]
resolution 260112-1,
please.
[9:30]
» I'll make a motion to approve resolution
number 26-0112-1.
[9:36]
» Second
[9:50]
Yes.
[9:54]
» Yes.
[9:59]
» Thank you very much. The next resolution
is 26-0112-2.
[10:06]
» Motion to approve resolution 26-112-2.
[10:27]
Yes.
[10:30]
» Yes.
[10:36]
» Thank you. Next item is demolition of a
home located on 115 Gen Street in
[10:41]
Brutin. That's resolution number 26-1.
112-3.
[10:45]
» I make a motion to approve resolution
number 26-0112-3.
[10:53]
» Second.
[11:07]
Yes.
[11:15]
» Thank you very much. The next one is
approval of public hearing for abatement
[11:18]
of a public nuisance on 15 Ranken
Street. That's resolution number
[11:23]
26-0112-4.
[11:29]
Motion to approve resolution 26-0112-4.
[11:35]
» Second.
[11:45]
» Will this public hearing be held at the
next council meeting?
[11:50]
» February 9th.
>> Okay. Yep.
[12:02]
Yes.
[12:05]
» Yes.
[12:11]
» Thank you. The next item is a
appointment to the tree and
[12:15]
beautifification committee. U and I
would like to uh appoint Jeannie Clark.
[12:20]
Jenny Clark is a business owner in
downtown Brutin. She owns her and her
[12:24]
husband's own weavers. So therefore,
she's right in the middle of all the
[12:27]
tree and beautifification in our city.
So that's an appointment I'd like to
[12:31]
make.
>> Whose spot is she taken? Or is that a
[12:34]
new spot?
>> There was a spot vacated.
[12:38]
» Yeah.
>> Yeah. And then the other appointment, we
[12:44]
don't need a vote on that, do we?
>> All right. So, and then the other
[12:48]
appointment is to the flood and variance
board. And uh I'm going to keep this in
[12:54]
the family. I'm going to appoint her
husband Andrew Clark to that committee
[12:57]
because he is located in the flood zone
and therefore would be affected by any
[13:02]
of the the abatements that would need to
uh invarian that need to be to go on in
[13:08]
the flood zone. So that's Andrew Clark.
And then our our next item is I want to
[13:14]
appoint uh two of our uh members of the
city council, David Jennings and Greg
[13:19]
Flemens to appoint a person to the
development board.
[13:24]
uh industrial development board. So I've
appointed those those two people there.
[13:30]
» Uh David Jennings and um Greg Clemens.
[13:37]
When is that person?
[13:49]
Right.
[14:00]
But we somebody contact Harry,
>> right? Because Harry's done a good job
[14:06]
over the years that he's been on there
and everything. So, okay. Both both of
[14:10]
them have, but if they don't want to be
back on again, y'all have to come up
[14:13]
with two members to to serve on that
board.
[14:20]
Right.
So, so the next announce announcement we
[14:25]
have is about the Martin Luther King Day
events. Um, as you can see, those are
[14:30]
posted.
[14:33]
There's a Saturday.
[14:58]
Sorry.
Um after
[15:11]
» so in the fire department
we'll be uh sponsoring lunch for the
[15:16]
band this year. So so they won't be
hungry.
[15:22]
» So
>> that's nice.
[15:23]
» Yeah. So, is there any anybody else that
has anything they'd like to say from the
[15:28]
audience before we adjourn?
If not, this meeting is a journ.
