[9:16] They have some questions, we're answering them, telling them why we're seeking this

[9:19] permit and doing the best we can to advocate that we got a lot of development going

[9:23] on that's going to outrun the sewer plant.

[9:25] So that's why it's important that we need this NPDS permit to discharge into the

[9:31] river.

[9:34] The clear well, the engineering application was submitted to NCDEQ.

[9:39] This is the permit that needs to be submitted, go through the planning review

[9:42] process, and then they give us the authorization to construct after it's gone

[9:47] through the review process, so that, that way, we can actually put the project out

[17:33] a plotter in their capital outlay budget.

[17:43] plotter broke.

[17:45] I was told there was much deep diving on eBay to try to find this mystery piece

[17:50] that they needed to replace. Nobody actually knew what it was called, but they

[17:53] could describe it.

[17:55] Anyways, the plotter is nearly eight years old and was

[18:01] purchased as a refurbished piece of equipment.

[18:03] Staff have sought quotes to replace the plotter that'll use the existing toner and

[18:07] paper stock they have so that we don't have to purchase new toner as well.

[18:11] The quote they received for the new device was $6,275.

[19:30] box. Due to the occupancy of the building, it's staff's recommendation to begin a

[19:34] cashless payment system at that location, accepting only checks or credit card.

[19:44] And customers wishing to pay in cash may still do so, but they would have to do it

[19:47] at the Camden office location.

[25:12] number of meetings preparing for the Board of Adjustment hearing that was held last

[25:16] Monday night, and then we held our hearing, well, first portion of the hearing last

[25:20] Monday.

[25:22] We had a safety personnel tour of the new high school that included representatives

[25:26] from the sheriff's office, EMS, and South Camden Fire.

[25:30] Brought up some good points, and I think that it was a good opportunity to get them

[25:34] in early to see the space and walk through it and understand the layout of the

[25:38] building a little bit better. We had EMS peer review, and I want to take a little

[25:43] sidebar there and brag on EMS for a minute.

[25:45] So I think you all probably saw the parks eagle award that our EMS employees

[25:50] received on the front page of the paper.

[25:52] And at that

[25:54] award ceremony that evening, I heard something that made me very proud of our

[25:59] service.

[26:01] When we started EMS, I told our director that I want it to be the gold

[26:07] standard, and that's a high bar to set, but I think that we have the ability to do

[26:11] that here in Camden. One of the advantages of the system that we have is it's a

[26:17] fairly small system. And so when we want to try something new or do something

[26:21] different,

[26:24] we have the ability to roll that out a little bit easier than larger systems with

[26:27] more personnel and more trucks and more stations.

[26:30] And so one of the folks that was there that night is also a part-time employee for

[26:36] Virginia Beach EMS. And we had made some change in one of the bags that they

[26:42] use on a regular basis, and it was just a small piece of equipment purchased off of

[26:47] Amazon, and he thought it would work better.

[26:50] We tried it out, and they roll it out to all of our trucks.

[26:53] And

[26:55] he regularly brags when he goes to Virginia Beach EMS about how Camden does things,

[27:00] and Camden is setting the standard.

[27:03] They, I guess, have recently adopted something that we did at Virginia Beach EMS.

[27:07] So I think that that's something that the board should be proud of.

[27:10] Certainly, something that I'm proud of, and I'm super proud to have a staff that's

[27:14] forward-thinking and innovative and looking for creative ways to solve problems

[28:06] making there. We've had our biweekly construction meetings for the new high school.

[28:14] We did the new finance officers' orientation and county tour.

[28:19] We got there just after most of those folks had left that day, so we had to make it

[28:22] back over there. Attended a regional transportation planning meeting, which the

[28:26] county hosted here in the community room.

[28:29] Our Treasure Point site meeting, we're inviting all of the department heads to come

[28:33] down to Treasure Point tomorrow for our department head meeting to tour the site.

[28:37] That's moving along really well. We hope to have our temporary certificate of

[28:40] occupancy at the end of this month, and then hopefully we can move the extension

[28:45] office staff in there sometime late October.

[28:47] So really pleased with how things are moving there.

[28:52] The month of August was super busy for our HR department.

[28:56] We filled 11 positions in the month of August, three part-time positions, eight

[29:00] full-time positions. So it's nice to see those job listings shrinking down on the

[29:06] website, and nice to get our departments up to a full staff.

[29:10] And then, I mentioned earlier that we attended the NCACC conference in Durham.

[29:15] They had some fantastic sessions, both on data centers and on the tax reform

[29:20] legislation that's moving through

[29:24] the general assembly in Raleigh. One thing that's not on this list, but I do want

[36:51] The weather's been a lot nicer. Kids are back to school, so there's not much

[36:55] swimming pools and things like that going on anymore.

[37:02] that, too. So thankfully, we're back down to some better numbers.

[37:08] Our current capacity for the water plant is 720,000 gallons per day.

[37:14] The South Mills Wastewater Treatment Plant treated a total of

[37:19] 25,079 gallons per day. That's a 100,000 gallon per day plant, and that

[37:25] is 25% capacity. I do remember standing up here in front of you all and telling you

[37:29] all like 12% and 10% and things like that about a year ago.

[37:35] So the courthouse area wastewater treatment plant treated an average of 30,358

[37:41] gallons per day. That is a 50,000 gallon per day plant, so we're at 61% capacity.

[37:48] I can say that that usage has gone up since school was in.

[37:51] We've noticed the pump run times a lot longer and some different things, and it's

[37:56] just all from the new schools.
