I'd just like to say something before I

do pray.

I thank God for Sheriff Ace Buck
[3:58]
who asked me about 5 or 6 years ago to
[4:01]
come and be the chaplain to him and to
[4:04]
the deputies. He
[4:06]
uh
[4:07]
definitely told me said not to the jail.
[4:09]
He said Shed, I I need you and the
[4:11]
deputies need you. So, I thank God for
[4:13]
that.
[4:14]
And uh
[4:16]
God has blessed him and he's going to
[4:18]
continue to do great things for the
[4:20]
county and the state. I believe that.
[4:23]
About 3 weeks ago
[4:25]
uh I called John Nyberg and to meet with
[4:29]
him.
[4:30]
And I met with him for about an hour.
[4:33]
And I will say this.
[4:35]
John
[4:37]
is a kind-hearted
[4:39]
person.
[4:41]
And I shared with him before I left.
[4:44]
Uh
[4:45]
one of my parishioners several years ago
[4:47]
told me when I started uh to pastor.
[4:50]
And that time I pastored a
[4:54]
all African-American church.
[4:57]
And it was hard.
[4:59]
And she told me she said stand firm
[5:03]
but be gentle.
[5:05]
And I did that. And God delivered me
[5:07]
from cussing.
[5:10]
And I thank God for that.
[5:13]
But I'm at a place now is multicultural
[5:15]
and it's just as sweet as it could be.
[5:17]
It almost blow my mind. I thought I had
[5:19]
died and went to heaven.
[5:21]
But uh John
[5:22]
stand firm.
[5:24]
You have to.
[5:26]
And be as gentle as you can.
[5:29]
Because not only are you dealing with
[5:30]
the deputies, you're dealing with the
[5:32]
county. And I will continue to pray for
[5:34]
you, my brother.
[5:37]
Let us pray.

Father God, I thank you

for Sheriff Buck
[5:44]
the years that he served. And we thank
[5:47]
you for him and that you will continue
[5:48]
to grace him
[5:50]
and be with him. But Lord, we thank you

for John Nyberg,
[5:55]
who's standing in the gap,
[5:57]
sheriff-elect,
[5:59]
and I believe in my heart in November,
[6:01]
Lord, he will be the sheriff.
[6:05]
But right now, he will be the acting
[6:06]
sheriff. So, we're asking you to be with
[6:09]
him, his wife and his children and
[6:12]
grandchildren, and to be with this
[6:14]
county in Jesus' name. Amen.

The purpose of the today's special
[6:59]
meeting, as previously stated, is to

fill the vacancy of the office of
[7:02]
sheriff. As required by North Carolina
[7:04]
law, the board has consulted with the
[7:05]
county executive committee of the
[7:07]
political party with which the former
[7:09]
sheriff was affiliated and has received
[7:12]
its recommendation. The board will now
[7:14]
consider the matters necessary to fill
[7:15]
the vacancy, including approval of the
[7:17]
sheriff's bond, appointment to the
[7:19]
office of sheriff, and administration of
[7:22]
the required oaths of office.
[7:25]
Mr. Clark, we got the bond and we got
[7:27]
the uh recommendation from the executive
[7:29]
committee.

Um we've served and had an individual that

served us

as citizens of Carteret County for

almost 20 years.
[12:32]
Um they are big shoes to fill.
[12:35]
Um
[12:37]
The one thing that I will not be able to
[12:38]
do is talk as long as he has.
[12:42]
So, the rest of it um
[12:44]
I wholeheartedly will pour my whole self
[12:47]
into this um opportunity and this job
[12:50]
and this um
[12:53]
purpose.

Courtroom number one. We're going to
[13:10]
have the
[13:11]
another ceremony there, but the years
[13:13]
I've known John Nyberg, he's
[13:15]
been a man of great integrity and honor
[13:17]
and a hard worker and uh
[13:20]
I told him he was a kind of a little
[13:21]
quiet for politics. We're going to try
[13:22]
to break him out of his shell, but he
[13:24]
he's coming along and uh and but he is a
[13:27]
first class person and uh he does have
[13:30]
big shoes to fill with Asa Asa led in
[13:32]
the same manner
[13:34]
and we are uh
[13:35]
certainly uh grateful to have a quality
[13:38]
person as our sheriff to continue on
[13:41]
through the many changes that's going to
[13:42]
be happening to the jail and the
[13:43]
sheriff's office and the as the county
[13:45]
continues to grow so
[13:47]
