[33:00]
New and everybody welcome to the Facility Naming Subcommittee meeting
[33:03]
for August 26, 2026. I'm your chair Krakisar with me
[33:08]
here online. Our Councillor's Alex Wilson and Matt Francis. As
[33:13]
we have formed for the meeting, I'd like to call
[33:15]
a meeting to order. And a reminder to just check
[33:18]
your devices to make sure they're not going to make
[33:19]
any sounds during the meeting. We will start with approval
[33:22]
of the agenda. Could I have a mover in secondary
[33:24]
to approve the agenda as presented? Councillor Wilson, Councillor Francis,
[33:30]
any amendments. Seeing none, all those in favor. That carries.
[33:37]
Are there any declarations of interest on today's agenda. Seeing
[33:41]
none will keep moving. That brings us to 5. 1
[33:44]
approval of the minutes of the meeting from October 9th,
[33:47]
2025. Could have a mover and second to adopt the
[33:49]
minutes from that meeting, please. Councillor Francis Councillor Wilson. Any
[33:55]
discussion. Seeing none, all those in favor shall have hands.
[34:00]
And that carries. We don't have any delegations, so we
[34:03]
are on to items or information. We have one item
[34:05]
on the agenda. It is 7. 1 report PW26084, renaming
[34:10]
of Roxborough Park at 70 Reed Avenue North Hamilton in
[34:15]
Ward floor. Before we open up the floor for questions,
[34:18]
can I have a mover and second or to put
[34:19]
it on the floor, please? Councillor Francis. Okay. Any discussion.
[34:27]
Council Francis, go ahead. Yeah, thanks, Cher. I have an
[34:36]
opportunity to review this. This is a tough one. I
[34:42]
just want to speak to this really briefly. You know,
[34:44]
Devin's tragic Devin Salvi is tragic passing. It shook the
[34:48]
community. Um, he was known as a great person and
[34:51]
held up in all regard by his friends and family
[34:53]
and the community. Um, so once the church shows the
[34:56]
secondary school that I graduated from. So this one really
[34:59]
hit close to me when, uh, when this magic passing
[35:03]
occurred. And so I'm glad we can give him this
[35:05]
honour. And, uh, that said, I would like to move
[35:08]
the alternative recommendation in this, um, if I can read
[35:12]
that out, share. So that is, um, in alternative to
[35:19]
the recommendation, the report PW26084 is to direct staff to
[35:23]
perceive with the proposed renaming of Roxborough Park to Devin
[35:28]
Selby Memorial Park. And if Council Direx to perceive staff
[35:34]
to proceed, then the financial consideration of 300 dollars for
[35:37]
the supply and installation of the new signs would apply.
[35:39]
So. At this time, I'd like to, uh, unless there's
[35:43]
anyone else who like to speak to this, I would,
[35:45]
um, I'd like to move to, uh, move that alternative
[35:49]
recommendation if I could get a seconder. And, um, honour,
[35:54]
uh, Devin's name like this. By renaming this part. Thank
[35:58]
you. Okay. Thank you. I will second it. So any
[36:03]
discussion further on that Councillor Wilson, go ahead. Thank you
[36:09]
through you chair. Would stuff just be able to comment
[36:14]
on if, uh, dedications of this type, uh, so recognising,
[36:20]
um, someone in memoriam is part of the review that's
[36:22]
been directed of the facility naming policy, not specific to
[36:25]
today, but I think this, this example highlights, uh, the
[36:28]
need for that review that I think was motioned at
[36:30]
the last cycle of committee meetings and just want to
[36:31]
make sure that instance is like this are captured. Because
[36:34]
I think, you know, this is, I think the report
[36:36]
itself speaks to the fact that this isn't talked about
[36:38]
in the policy today. Director Graham. Through the chair, Cynthia
[36:43]
Graham, Director of Environmental Services, certainly this is a situation
[36:46]
that isn't covered by the current policy. So could be
[36:49]
considered as part of that review. And we would look
[36:51]
to past examples to inform that review. So this would
[36:55]
be one that we would consider. If I understand correctly
[36:59]
though, it was still a notice of motion at the
[37:01]
last GIC. I don't know that that has actually been
[37:04]
directed yet, but anticipate that that's coming forward. And if
[37:07]
stafford directed to do that work, then we would, um,
[37:11]
look at all of the different ways that we name
[37:13]
things across the city and update that policy. No, I
[37:18]
think that makes sense. And in the absence of having,
[37:22]
um, that kind of general direction or that general guidance
[37:25]
on how to do this, um, I think we have
[37:27]
to handle the request that we have in front of
[37:29]
us with the policy we have, but also the community
[37:31]
support that we have, um, and so appreciating that this
[37:34]
is out of the jurisdiction, um, I'm happy to support
[37:36]
the alternative today. And I think if this has further
[37:39]
discussion at committee or council, um, I think it should
[37:41]
get there for that discussion. Absolutely. Um, and I think
[37:45]
any broader questions about how we name things our best
[37:46]
kind of done at the policy level as opposed to
[37:48]
looking at individual applications. Um, so supportive the alternative today.
[37:53]
Thank you. Okay. Thank you. Yeah. Just a question about,
[37:56]
uh, the 300 dollars. It's mentioned in there for financing
[37:59]
directogram. If you can just speak to how that would
[38:00]
be resolved. Yeah. Through the chair. So typically when renaming
[38:04]
proposals come forward, uh, a funding source for the, uh,
[38:08]
cost of either the installation of a brand new sign
[38:12]
or just the insert of a sign, which is the
[38:13]
case in this, um, instance would need to be identified
[38:18]
because Roxborough Park is actively, um, preparing for redevelopment. We
[38:23]
had anticipated those costs as part of our, um, park
[38:27]
redevelopment cost. So we can cover that 300 dollars within
[38:31]
our operating for this instance. Okay. That's helpful. Thank you.
[38:36]
So we have a motion on the floor. It's been
[38:38]
moved and seconded to rename Roxbro Park to Devon Selvi
[38:41]
Memorial Park. Just check to see if there are conversation.
[38:46]
Seeing none, we'll have an electronic vote. And the vote
[38:53]
is up.
[39:06]
And that carries unanimously. Thank you, everybody. So that park
[39:08]
will go through the renaming process. Uh, we have correspondence
[39:13]
that we need to receive. Uh, there were two correspondences
[39:16]
from the Ward Councillor and from Tyrone Greenridge. So could
[39:19]
I have a mover in secondary to receive that correspondence
[39:22]
Councillor Francis. Councillor Wilson? Uh, show of hands vote. That
[39:30]
carries. Thank you very much. We don't have any other
[39:33]
items on the agenda. So being no further business, this
[39:36]
meeting is adjourned at 106 PM. Thank you, everybody.
