[8:31] me the opportunity to speak with you today. My name is Ansley Han and I'm a

[8:35] senior at Beach High School. My partner Blake and I are both members of Beach

[8:38] DECA and this year we're working on a project called Bravehearts. Our project

[8:43] is focused on supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families

[8:46] through fundraising, awareness, and community involvement. We chose to

[8:50] support the pediatric cancer unit at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital because

[8:53] we wanted our project to have a real impact on children and families in our

[8:58] community. Our why

[9:03] children in hospitals, especially those battling cancer, chronic illness, or

[9:07] long-term treatments, face challenges that most kids never experience. One of

[9:11] those being emotional stress and fear. Um, hospitals can seem very scary and

[9:15] cold to children. Um, it's a really hard experience for them. So, we want to make

[9:20] sure that they feel as least alone as they possibly can. Um, another one of

[9:24] those being the loss of normaly. Um, being in the hospital means missing

[9:28] birthdays, holidays, sports, and school. So, we want to be a comforting face to

[9:33] them and make them feel a little bit more normal.

[9:39] Um, also Bravehearts is more than just a fundraising project. Our goal is to

[9:42] bring our community together around pediatric cancer and create

[9:46] opportunities to make people feel a difference. Throughout this school year,

[9:50] we want to involve students, schools, businesses, and families throughout SER

[9:53] County. We want people to understand that even something as simple as

[9:57] participating in event, sharing information, or donating can help

[10:00] support children's going through something um incredibly difficult.

[10:05] Why Vanderbilt Children's Hospital? Um Vanderbilt Children's Hospital is the

[10:09] largest pediatric hospital in Tennessee. Um they have patients from 50 states and

[10:14] international. Um they have 363 beds and 108,000

[10:19] patients each day. They're the number one children's hospital in Tennessee and

[10:24] the Southeast. They are also the number one hospital statewide for 10are

[10:28] admissions. Um me and my partner Blake visited Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

[10:32] And for pediatric cancer specifically, they have a room, a playroom in each

[10:37] floor where they have games, uh Xbox, they have coloring books, um things to

[10:43] make them feel a little bit more normal. The first event um we want to host is

[10:51] the Every Color Counts Color Run, which will take place on September 5th at 9:00

[10:54] a.m. at Memorial Park. Registration is $10 and our goal is to create an event

[10:59] that is fun and welcoming for families, students, and community members while

[11:02] raising money for our cause. The idea behind the event is that every color

[11:06] represents a different person, family, or story affected by cancer. When all

[11:10] those colors come together, they create something much bigger than any one

[11:14] individual. That represents exactly why we want Bravehearts to be a community

[11:19] coming together to support children and families.

[11:24] We chose Memorial Park because it gives us an ideal community setting for an

[11:28] event like this. The park already has several features that make it

[11:31] appropriate for an active community event, including a walking track,

[11:34] multi-purpose athletic field, restrooms, picnic areas, and other recreational

[11:38] amenities. We also want to be respectful of the park and the people who use it

[11:42] regularly. Our goal is not to disrupt the community, but to create an

[11:45] organized event that fits naturally within the park.

[11:48] We understand that hosting an event in the park in the city park comes with a

[11:51] lot of responsibility. We plan to have designated areas for registration, the

[11:55] start and finish of the run, and our color stations. We also will be using

[12:00] biodegradable colors so that it'll get washed out in the rain. We also will

[12:05] have a plan for cleanup and making sure that we leave the park in the same

[12:08] condition or better than we found it. Safety is also extremely important to

[12:12] us. We will make sure participants know where they need to be. Volunteers.

[12:15] Volunteers understand the responsibilities and we follow the

[12:18] city's requirements for special events. We know that Henderson Parks has

[12:21] specific guidelines and procedures for special events and we want to make sure

[12:24] we work with the parks department through the process rather than assuming

[12:27] we know everything ourselves. One of our biggest goals is getting Sar

[12:32] County involved. We've already reached out to schools through the county and

[12:35] asked them to help us spread the word through emails, uh, Sumner chat, social

[12:39] media, and other school communication. We want this to be something that the

[12:42] students and families from all over Sar County and Henderson can participate in.

[12:46] Although this color run is the first event, it is not only it is not the

[12:50] beginning of Bravehearts. Throughout this be throughout this year, we want we

[12:54] can we plan to continue finding ways to raise money, spread awareness, and

[12:57] involve our community in supporting pediatric pediatric cancer. We want to

[13:00] build something that continues through the entire school year rather than one

[13:03] event and stopping there. Today we are here because we would love

[13:07] to have your support and guidance as we walk toward making every color counts

[13:11] colorant a successful event at Memorial Park. We're both high school students,

[13:14] so we know we have a lot to learn about organizing an event of this size. And

[13:18] that's why we're excited to work with you guys. We want to make sure we are

[13:21] following the proper procedures, respecting the park, keeping

[13:24] participants safe, and creating an event that the Hendersville community can be a

[13:27] part of. At the end of the day, Henderson will or sorry, at the end of

[13:31] the day, Brave Hearts isn't about showing children and families facing

[13:34] pediatric cancer that they aren't alone. We believe that the one small event can

[13:37] bring a community together and we're hoping that the every color counts color

[13:41] run could be the first step in making that happen. Thank you for your time and

[26:48] football field. If it rains, we've secured Hendersonville High School's gym

[26:52] as a backup, so it will go on rain or rain or shine. The fee is $20. It's a

[26:58] one-day event held each fall that consists of a 25 yard dash, many

[27:02] hurdles, tennis ball throw, and again, it's children ages 3 to 5 as

[27:09] of October 31st, 2026. All children must pre-register in order

[27:14] to participate. Everyone that pre-registers by October 1st will

[27:56] also excited to have the Nashville Stars joining us for our final games of the

[28:01] season. They'll be out there with the booth um giving out treats and prizes to

[28:04] all the kids to help celebrate the season. Um, also our fall adult men's

[28:10] and co-ed softball leagues and kickball leagues are ongoing and those have been

[28:15] going great. And our fall pickle ball league is uh full with 10 teams and

[28:21] they'll begin playing September 14th. And then um starting next week, we'll

[28:26] start shifting our focus towards basketball season with registration

[28:29] opening for our high school and adult leagues. That's it for Miss Jasmine.

[28:47] you'll see the month of September's um, special event list in the back of your

[28:52] packet. Um, a couple things on on there to note. Um, [clears throat] the Middle

[28:58] Tennessee Highland Games, September 12th and 13th out at Sanders Ferry. Um, the

[29:03] Hometown Heroes Day, September 19th at Drake's Creek, the World War II ship

[29:08] that came back a while ago for approval. Um, on here it shows the 21st. That is

[29:14] the day that they get here. The first day of um, that'll be open and running

[29:17] is the 23rd.

[29:21] And then a couple other things um, to update on. Nerf night has been set for

[29:25] the fall. Um, it will be October 1st. It's $10 per child. There's three age

[29:30] divisions. There's uh 4:30 to 5:30. There are 9 to 12 year olds. Those are

[29:34] typically for the kids that have sports later in the evening. Um 6 to8 year olds

[29:39] 5:30 to 6:30. And then another 9 to 12, 6:30 to 7:30. Um Power Wheels is set for

[29:45] November 8th. Uh registration for Oh, registration for Nerf Night has already

[29:49] started and it's filling up pretty quickly. It's a popular one. Um Power

[29:53] Wheels is set for November 8th. Uh registration for that will begin

[29:56] midepptember. Um, and that is there's three age divisions, 3 to four, then 3

[30:00] to five, then six to seven, and that is $25 per car. Um, and then our trick-or-

[30:05] treat has been set for October 30th. That is a Friday night. Um, that is

[30:09] different than in the past. Um, but also Beach and Hendersonville play football

[30:14] on that Thursday. So, we're not going to try to do that the same night. So, that

[30:21] is going to be a Friday. The park is going to be packed. It'll be fun,

[30:24] though. Uh, registration is now live for that as well. Um, for vendor booths and

[30:28] they are $25 as well. Um, I believe that is all I have right now.

[30:35] » We least question. All right. Anybody have Mr. Cole's

[30:41] maintenance report? >> Yes, sir. Um, the you will see the park

[30:46] staff out this week uh mulching all the playgrounds that have mulch as a

[30:51] surface. Uh, for those of you who may not be aware, we had a lightning strike.

[30:55] I know Mr. Head is aware. Uh, we had a lightning strike in the park a couple

[30:59] weeks ago. It knocked out several things involving our network and um IT related

[31:06] issues, security cameras in certain places and some irrigation issues as

[31:12] well as lights on some of the fields. So, they've changed about 25 of the 50

[31:17] light bulbs at this time. They were in the park today working. Uh the soccer

[31:22] irrigation is back working. We think um and then we are continuing to work

[31:29] through the IT issues. Um I can't say enough about our IT department. And

[31:35] Jason's sitting back in the back. I think he's back there. He's got his hand

[31:38] up. Not only does he make those nice little

[31:41] intro videos for our meetings, but they we have to work with them constantly um

[31:46] to get things back up and running or adding things or trying to make things

[31:51] better. They do a great job. So, I want to thank them for their quick work on

[31:54] this to especially get our concession stands operating where they could take

[31:58] cards and and things in a quick turnaround.

[32:03] Um the maintenance staff's also we're going

[32:06] to shut down a couple of fields for maintenance purposes. Fields 12 and

[32:11] field two. Field two we're doing a total infield renovation and then field 12

[32:16] we're installing irrigation in the outfield. So that'll make a big

[32:20] difference on both those baseball softball fields.

[32:29] » Thank you. Uh, Rex Soccer started up their season this past Saturday and um,

[32:34] Tennessee United will be hosting their Labor Day tournament next weekend and

[32:38] then their big annual fall tournament in about one month from now. Adult soccer

[32:43] registration has begun and they'll start playing in September. Rugby practices

[32:48] uh, started up last week. Um, tackle football held their first games of the

[32:52] season this past Saturday here in Drake's Creek and they'll host again

[32:56] this coming Saturday. And flag football is still um working on getting started.

[33:00] They're hoping to start practice up later this week or beginning of next

[33:14] practicing. Games will start in September. The Fast Pitch League added a

[33:18] high school open division this fall. I think they have four teams. So, that's a

[33:22] that's a good thing that we haven't had in a while. Um, senior men's softball,

[33:27] the league that never ends, is ongoing and their fall league is now started.

[33:31] Their spring league ended last week and their fall league started this week. Uh,

[33:36] senior women's softball, new new league, uh, well, an old league that's come

[33:41] back, has six teams, I believe, and they have had a first three good weeks to

[33:47] start out with. Uh the hockey league is in process of drafting teams and then

[33:52] we'll start practices. Full count, fall baseball, high school league is in the

[33:56] second week of games. Um we we've had to do a lot of shifting around due to the

[34:01] heat as some of you all may have noticed. Uh we had to reschedule a few

[34:06] things. The Nashville Predators Iron Man hockey event is this weekend at

[34:10] Volunteer Park. You all approved that a few weeks ago.

[34:13] uh UTSA baseball which uh came to us earlier this summer is having their

[34:18] first tournament as a tournament director and they will be this weekend.

[34:22] They have about 30 teams coming in from all over. And the senior men's uh Twitty

[34:28] tournament earlier this month went well according to uh all reports on Mr.

[34:33] Perry's AI generated social media page. >> Very nice. Thank you, sir.

[34:41] » That's [snorts] all for Mr. Bruce. >> Thank you, sir.

[34:45] » Uh, director, do you have your report? Mr.

[34:47] » I'll be brief, Mr. Chairman. >> Just to let everybody know, we will be

[34:51] breaking ground at Heritage Park within the next couple of weeks as soon as we

[34:56] have an exact date and a groundbreaking event. We will let you all know that,

[35:00] but that is um they was the construction company was sent the notice to proceed

[35:05] today. So, we've got to clean out some stuff from the house and then we will

[35:09] get started out there on that new park. Um you probably have seen paving um

[35:15] going on at the rugby fields. They're still working on that and they will

[35:20] begin paving the lot between the baseball and soccer fields this week

[35:25] also. So that should you should start see that to start take place tomorrow.

[35:30] Uh maintenance shop we've gone back and forth public works working with Rogers

[35:34] Group to get us down to a a number. I want to thank the public works

[35:37] department who took a second, third, and fourth look at the plans and got it down

[35:43] to where we saved a couple hundred,000 off of what the engineers had drawn up.

[35:48] So, after Rogers Group sends us some updated numbers, we'll begin moving dirt

[35:52] on our maintenance shop finally. So, that's a good thing. Um, and then also

[35:57] just a reminder at this point all the all of the ticketed events for upcoming

[36:03] Pigfest are on sale and a live Saturday of of the Pigfest is free to everyone

[36:10] Thursday and Friday night. You got to have a ticket. That's all I have. Sir,

[36:19] Bruce me? >> Name's familiar.

[36:23] » Remember him? He was in one of the first Twitty tournaments.
