[1:03] okay with this being the month of may we certainly want to offer our police

[1:09] officers who were slain in the line of duty unfortunately

[1:14] the city of cresthill in our 62-year history have have lost two

[1:20] police officers who were killed in the line of duty behind me you'll see the

[1:24] black and the blue wreaths on each side of the city council chambers which was

[1:28] made by officer o'malley of the crestville police department they will

[1:32] hang here from may 1st until may 31st in honor of our slain police officers and

[1:37] all the police officers who've been slain throughout the country and the

[1:40] state of illinois for all these years so i i certainly want to make mention of

[1:46] our two officers our first officer officer james w nink

[1:52] was killed on september 16 1967. he was actually in pursuit of an armed

[1:57] robbery victim back then most of the streets around

[2:01] here were gravel he was heading westbound on caton farm road about where

[2:07] essington road is now veered off the road and struck a utility

[2:11] pole and was killed instantly in the vehicle vehicle crash

[2:16] sergeant timothy a simonson was killed on september 28 1994

[2:23] about four blocks from from this site he who was

[2:29] investigating an armed robbery subject was hiding in the trunk of the

[2:34] car when the truck was open sergeant simonson was

[2:39] shot and killed immediately on the scene so we certainly want to

[2:43] offer our condolences to both the nink family and to the simons and family

[2:48] we ask that you keep them in our prayers and your prayers

[2:53] we certainly want to thank both both officer nate and

[2:56] sergeant simonson for the sacrifices they made

[3:01] throughout their career with with the city of cresthill they did certainly

[3:06] improve the quality of life for all of our residents so i would ask for a

[3:10] moment of silence of silent prayer for officer james link

[3:14] and sergeant timothy simonson of the crestville police department

[10:48] for the proclamation for national police week from may 15th to may 21st 2022

[10:56] that proclamation will be read by uh the other men and women in wards one and two

[11:06] you mayor proclamation whereas the city of crest hill is faithfully served by

[11:10] the officers of its police department men and women who diligently perform

[14:01] commitment and dedication they have to the city of prestill and for all the

[14:05] sacrifices not only that they make but all the sacrifices that their family

[14:09] makes for sometimes the odd shifts the long

[14:12] shifts and everything else that goes along with being a police department

[14:16] as mayor i'm very proud of all the police officers in the city of cresthill

[14:21] for their professionalism the way they handle

[14:24] all of the incidences that they have to deal with so i certainly want to thank

[14:28] them publicly again for the service that they provide to every one of our

[14:33] citizens and every one of our visitors to pass through this city on a daily

[14:37] basis and uh for improving the quality of life

[14:41] in the city of cresthill with that i'll turn it over to our police chief ed

[14:44] clark if you'd like to make any comments no i just uh mayor and council thank you

[14:48] so much for this proclamation uh this is truly an honor for our police department

[14:53] um and again during the month of may we do

[14:55] remember uh both officers that one died in line of duty and one was murdered in

[15:00] the line of duty and uh we have to remember them and the sacrifices that

[15:04] their families continue to make to this day so thank you and uh between the 15th

[15:09] and the 21st we'll be wearing our morning badges in honor of the officers

[15:13] that died in the line of duty so thank you

[15:16] and we certainly don't want to forget all the police officers

[15:19] throughout our country that have been killed in the line of duty it

[15:23] happens way too frequently and so we certainly want to offer our

[15:28] condolences to every one of those families to who

[15:32] mourn the loss of their loved one i'll open it up for any comments from city

[19:07] sight unseen with heavy snowstorms that usually occur

[19:12] a lot of times it seems like at night where they're out plowing for maybe 16

[19:16] hours and then go home and sleep for eight hours and the major snowstorms

[19:20] have to come back for another eight hours

[19:23] we don't a lot of people don't see them unless the water main break is near

[19:27] their residence and a lot of times those happen

[19:31] when it's below zero temperatures and it's very

[19:34] cold outside and they're out in the middle of the

[19:37] night dealing with the traffic and the and the water main breaks that have to

[19:40] be um

[19:42] fixed so people can have um drinking water

[19:46] uh in their homes so again i want to thank them all the

[19:49] men and women for their commitment their dedication to the city of crest hill and

[19:54] the sacrifices that not only they make with being called out after hours under

[19:59] some extreme conditions to keep the city operating and i also

[20:04] want to offer my gratitude to their families for the sacrifices that the

[20:08] families make for probably a lot of missed parties and everything else that

[20:12] goes along with being a parent by serving the city of crest hill but

[20:16] they too the men and women of our public works department has improved the

[20:20] quality of life for every one of our residents and for our visitors who pass

[20:23] through this city every day so i i want to extend as the mayor

[20:28] their professionalism that they show on the streets also to our residents and

[20:32] for the work that they do for uh for the city of cresthill

[20:37] so i would now ask if uh our director of public works mark seifert would like to

[20:41] make any comments in regards to this also thank you mayor and council for the

[20:45] proclamation um i will take this back to our staff

[20:49] it's it's sometimes a thankless job but we do it because we love doing it

[20:54] everybody in the public works department has a passion for either water the

[20:57] streets the wastewater and uh we wouldn't be doing it if we didn't have a

[21:01] passion for this and it's very nice to uh the first time

[21:05] that i've been in public works to share

[21:09] this week with the police department who we've had a great working relationship

[21:12] we couldn't do a lot of things that we do

[21:15] in terms of the main breaks uh and fixing things overnight without their

[21:18] help uh and their cooperation helping us shut down roads and things like that so

[21:23] it's truly honored to share the week with them this this year in 2022 but

[21:28] thank you and also to the men and women of our

[21:30] water department also for all their hard work and you know with lake michigan

[21:34] coming on here by 2030 there's a lot of work to do

[21:38] to bring lake michigan water to the city of cresthill

[21:41] so you know again they go sight unseen a

[21:45] lot of times too making sure of the quality of the water uh for all of our

[21:49] residents to drink also so thank you very much to them also

[21:53] anybody else comments from city council well mark since you're talking about

[21:57] public work can you give a little bit about your event

[22:02] yeah so real quick sorry um may 14th uh we'll be having a touch truck and

[22:07] open house down the public works building from 11 to 2 we have quiet

[22:11] hours from 10 to 11. um the great event we have we just got a

[22:16] couple more confirmations on some bigger vehicles

[22:19] that are coming that are not usually seen on the roads so a great opportunity

[22:23] for kids to climb all over some very interesting

[22:26] vehicles uh we have some demonstrations about how to put a hydrant together how

[22:31] to you know what's inside of event what's inside the hydrant uh what's the

[22:34] water main look like coming to your house what's the service line looking

[22:37] like we've got some pretty interesting games

[22:39] that the staff has created for the kids uh we'll leave those as surprises for

[22:44] any kids who do show up so yeah it's

[22:47] 11-2 on saturday may 14th at public works

[24:09] that mr budzikowski comes highly recommended uh his

[24:15] his resume uh

[24:18] shows the wealth of experience that he has in economic development

[24:23] most recently his last two places the village of lyle where he worked for 17

[24:28] years and the village of oakbrook where he

[24:31] worked for the last four years i will tell you that

[24:35] i was impressed by the knowledge that he had of the city of prestill during

[24:40] his interview process with the city council it was evident that he has done

[24:44] his homework in regards to this city i believe that he will be a tremendous

[24:48] asset to the city of cresthill as our new economic and community development

[24:53] director with that being said

[24:57] i would recommend mr anthony budzikowski be appointed as community and economic

[25:02] development director for the city of crestel effective may 9th

[28:18] we will have musical entertainment by the frankfurt brass band they will have

[28:23] a pre-concert starting at 1 40 with the program to begin at 2 p.m

[28:28] we will certainly honor our two slain police officers and all of

[28:33] the veterans who have passed away um

[28:37] we will certainly honor them we have about

[28:40] 1175 names on the memorial gardens outside of cresthill residents who

[28:45] served this country and made this country and this community a better

[28:49] place to live our two guest speakers this year

[28:54] are two world war ii veterans who live in the city of cresthill one is the name

[28:59] of don lawler and the other one is mr chester bozek

[29:03] so their words of wisdom will be something for everyone to hear on

[29:07] memorial day and again they are

[29:11] in their mid-90s and they are one of the the dying breed of the world war ii

[29:17] veterans who serve this country um so we can enjoy the freedoms that we

[29:22] have today there will be light refreshments that

[29:25] will be served after the ceremony it usually takes 45 minutes to an hour

[29:30] everyone is welcome please bring your lawn chairs we will have we will have

[29:34] chairs and everything available to you also but a lot of people do bring their

[29:38] lawn chairs and again join us this will be our 34th annual memorial day ceremony

[32:47] see that as on the agenda in that report or whether

[32:52] uh whether not needing action whether you

[32:55] prefer not to see it i'd like to see it i'd like to see it
