[8:48]
Are we ready, Sandy? I'm
[8:49]
listening.
[8:50]
Okay, we're getting started.
[8:52]
Good.
[8:53]
Yes.
[9:00]
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Danvers
[9:02]
Accessibility Commission meeting
[9:03]
. It is Thursday, September 24,
[9:08]
2026. Present are myself, JD,
[9:11]
I am the president. There's Christie.
[9:14]
There's Amy. Matt's there. Gardner is
[9:16]
virtual. Karen should arrive a little
[9:20]
later. We're not counting on Bond today.
[9:23]
And Ellie.
[9:24]
yes, is she on the way?
[9:26]
He said it's on its way.
[9:27]
Oh, Ellie. Ellie.
[9:29]
I'm on my way. I've been working virtually since...
[9:32]
Okay, yes, don't worry. No
[9:33]
problem. And we also have Ellie
[9:35]
here. Very good. So, the next step
[9:39]
is just the approval of the
[9:41]
meeting minutes. Okay, we'll postpone that.
[9:51]
We will postpone the approval of the
[9:52]
minutes until the next meeting. There is no
[9:55]
one from the public here now,
[9:57]
so there are no public comments.
[9:59]
Incident reports: there are no reports
[10:02]
, so that's great news. Okay,
[10:06]
this is something quick. Next
[10:09]
Wednesday morning I will be attending
[10:12]
the Danvers Traffic Advisory Committee meeting
[10:14]
. Just to talk
[10:18]
about our connection with them and for them to
[10:21]
raise issues where they're
[10:25]
unsure what to prioritize. So,
[10:28]
basically strengthening that
[10:29]
relationship. I'll talk to them about the hike
[10:33]
and potentially about what
[10:35]
the next one would be like and where it could be. That
[10:39]
kind of thing, and see what they propose.
[10:43]
That's how it is.
[10:44]
Regarding that, Aaron contacted me and
[10:46]
asked us to do it.
[10:48]
Fantastic.
[10:50]
JD will do it.
[10:52]
Yes, and we also have a consultant
[10:53]
there. I'll try to get, you know...
[10:59]
the associated meetings. So that's
[11:01]
all that's going on. If
[11:03]
anyone wants me to mention anything at that
[11:06]
meeting, feel free to
[11:08]
email me or anything,
[11:10]
but we can move on to the
[11:12]
planning phase. So, at
[11:20]
this point, we're focusing on advertising,
[11:24]
promotion, and details of what will be
[11:28]
at the event. I asked Von to
[11:32]
look up prices for
[11:35]
easel-style signs. They seem to be annoyingly
[11:39]
expensive. Most likely we'll spend
[11:43]
the rest of the budget on just two
[11:46]
signs. Hmm. And I know we need
[11:50]
part of that budget for
[11:52]
snacks and water.
[11:54]
Although I am also completely
[11:57]
willing to donate the snacks and
[11:59]
water. Alright
[12:01]
.
[12:01]
Yes, we've been... I feel the same way
[12:03]
. I feel like I do. Get
[12:06]
some posters.
[12:06]
Costco snacks, water, and all that.
[12:08]
Yes. I do
[12:09]
n't want to spend too much.
[12:11]
Uh, but...I think I have something to
[12:14]
add. Well, it's not really the
[12:21]
votes, it's because of...it's something dark. Uh...Uh,
[12:29]
she sent me the thing about the posters. Um,
[12:33]
I'm wondering if, you know, if we did
[12:35]
something like that, if we made one that was
[12:38]
reusable.
[12:40]
TRUE. I think they're all like...
[12:42]
basically sliding into the poster.
[12:45]
Oh, but I mean...ah, you mean the
[12:47]
plastic ones. Uh, I was even
[12:50]
thinking about the poster too. and set
[12:53]
only a schedule and a
[12:55]
temporary location on the outside.
[12:58]
Ah, I see.
[13:01]
But the sign itself costs about
[13:05]
$20. at home.
[13:09]
Oh, okay.
[13:10]
The sign, and then...
[13:11]
Oh, the sign, yes.
[13:13]
Um...I got my laptop because I thought I might be able to
[13:16]
use it and...I couldn't
[13:20]
connect it to anything at all. Uh, the
[13:22]
...Easel.
[13:26]
Yes, the sandwich-style easel sign
[13:27]
. It
[13:28]
costs 38.
[13:30]
oh.
[13:32]
So it's not as prohibitively
[13:34]
expensive as the one across the street.
[13:37]
Hey, the one across the street.
[13:40]
The only thing I was thinking is that
[13:43]
we could also opt for a whiteboard and
[13:45]
write on it, so we don't have to
[13:47]
deal with printing posters. I don't know if
[13:51]
anyone has artistic skills and
[13:54]
would like to draw on the blackboard. I mean
[13:57]
, absolutely. Yes. Okay.
[14:00]
Uh, I don't have those skills. I
[14:03]
would have to find out how much a
[14:05]
whiteboard costs.
[14:07]
Yes, I can look that up too. We'll
[14:09]
take care of ordering it. Um... Just to
[14:12]
be clear, are these for
[14:15]
promotional purposes? Would you put them indoors
[14:17]
or outdoors?
[14:20]
I think one in front. Out here
[14:21]
or something so
[14:23]
people know they're in the
[14:24]
right place. I didn't know if it was in
[14:26]
anticipation of the fact that, sometimes, you know,
[14:29]
theater productions have those
[14:32]
posters and things like that. Uh, to spread
[14:35]
the word instead of using the banner.
[14:39]
Funny and, you know, it says we'd think we'd
[14:40]
need two.
[14:43]
Uh...It's not in this
[14:46]
email, but I think the idea was to
[14:48]
have one at the town hall.
[14:49]
Mhm.
[14:50]
uh, before the event and then have one
[14:53]
here so people know that, oops,
[14:56]
sorry. Just so people know,
[14:59]
I physically own three of
[15:01]
those white A-frames, so don't
[15:03]
buy them. They're, ah, they're from, if you can
[15:06]
send me the size of the sign,
[15:08]
I'll check it tomorrow, but they're about 4
[15:10]
feet tall, or 3 feet, I guess. But
[15:13]
they're the plastic A-frames you
[15:15]
see all over town when you look at things
[15:16]
on the sidewalk. I have three of them.
[15:18]
They can borrow them if they want.
[15:20]
That's great.
[15:21]
Then that's perfect.
[15:22]
The poster measures 24 by 36.
[15:25]
Okay. Then these will do the trick. They're
[15:27]
fine. I use them for Trask Stock, so
[15:28]
...
[15:30]
Amazing. Good.
[15:31]
Thanks, Arnie.
[15:32]
That's fantastic. You are
[15:33]
welcome.
[15:34]
Because with three, we could put one
[15:37]
at the front, one at the end of Stone Street
[15:39]
to entice people to turn. And then
[15:42]
, yes, one at the town hall or something like that
[15:44]
.
[15:44]
We could also move them. And before
[15:47]
, for example, with
[15:49]
theatrical productions, we obviously need
[15:51]
permission from the library. So, the
[15:55]
typical thing to do is put them in front of the
[15:58]
high school because that attracts a lot of people...
[16:00]
that really works.
[16:02]
Yes, we could put the one I'm proposing
[16:04]
at the end of the street somewhere
[16:06]
visible, or move it...
[16:07]
And then we could move it there.
[16:09]
I like that idea.
[16:12]
Okay, then all that's left is to place the
[16:13]
order. Uh, and I don't mind taking care
[16:16]
of that. Um.
[16:18]
Let me do it, since I have the check
[16:20]
.
[16:20]
Ah, that's right.
[16:21]
So, I can pay directly with
[16:22]
my credit card. And that will cover it,
[16:26]
yes, I'll take care of printing
[16:28]
the posters. I did three things so that
[16:30]
we can enlarge them.
[16:32]
Beautiful.
[16:32]
Very good, Jen. And those QR codes
[16:37]
work very well.
[16:38]
Yes.
[16:38]
Great. I
[16:40]
know I've been testing it, I don't want to
[16:42]
do it too many times, but just in case
[16:44]
, it does work.
[16:45]
I think the test we did is still
[16:48]
triggering an email we
[16:51]
received in...
[16:53]
Oh no.
[16:53]
The accessibility commission's account is checked
[16:55]
every day, as if
[16:57]
someone were trying...where are
[16:58]
people coming from? And I thought, wait, I get an
[17:01]
email every day about this.
[17:02]
Yes, no, it goes directly to the
[17:04]
Facebook group.
[17:04]
Perfect. Okay. Brilliant. And then, that
[17:09]
's fantastic. That covers the signs.
[17:15]
Shelby also printed some of
[17:17]
these and took them to various locations around
[17:18]
the city.
[17:20]
Ah, okay.
[17:20]
And I left, I left one of the ones I
[17:23]
have. I have 10 more here. Uh, I'm going to
[17:26]
make some this weekend if there isn't too
[17:28]
much of a storm.
[17:30]
Oh yes, the northeast storm.
[17:33]
So it's a trip for the
[17:34]
cake tour.
[17:35]
Oh, man.
[17:36]
We can get it cancelled.
[17:37]
Mike, do you have a digital copy of...
[17:39]
Yes.
[17:40]
That?
[17:40]
Yes.
[17:41]
Send it to me.
[17:41]
Yes.
[17:41]
Ah, you have it. Alright. Yes,
[17:43]
I was going to let you send it to me, but
[17:45]
yes, just send it. All of this. But, uh
[17:49]
, no, I don't know if you saw that I added a
[17:51]
lot of things to the to-do list. I did it
[17:54]
. Thank you.
[17:55]
Those were mostly with my name next to them
[17:56]
, just so people would know
[17:58]
who to contact. Uh, so we're
[18:01]
with the superintendent of Granby and the
[18:03]
high school principal.
[18:05]
Yes.
[18:06]
Uh, I also have all these
[18:09]
emails ready to send. I just
[18:11]
wanted to wait until now, about 3
[18:13]
weeks before the event, to send them so that it's
[18:15]
more present and closer to the
[18:17]
date. So yes, the superintendent
[18:20]
, the high school principal, uh,
[18:22]
Danvers Cares, who covers a lot of people.
[18:24]
Uh...HRIC, but should I contact them
[18:31]
or have you already notified them?
[18:34]
We were at the meeting.
[18:36]
Oh, yes.
[18:37]
so I gave them an update
[18:40]
about the library and Amy talked about
[18:43]
the connection between...suicide and
[18:48]
disabilities, and the importance of
[18:49]
talking about National
[18:51]
Suicide Prevention Month. And we
[18:53]
gave everyone copies of this. And that's
[18:56]
where Lieutenant Silva
[18:58]
told them.
[18:58]
Yes, yes. Oh, that's great.
[19:00]
Lieutenant Silva believes it's going to be a
[19:01]
problem.
[19:04]
So we, oh, and then it was just
[19:06]
that we were, we had already talked to
[19:08]
...
[19:10]
I, yeah, and they have a new liaison at
[19:12]
HRIC from the high school, so
[19:14]
...
[19:15]
Oh, that's fine.
[19:17]
And I told her...
[19:18]
Yes, she took one of the flyers and I
[19:20]
also emailed it to her
[19:22]
. Oh, also, something
[19:24]
totally unexpected, but I
[19:26]
sent it to my son's English teacher
[19:27]
too, because I had to
[19:29]
explain to him why I wasn't going to be at
[19:31]
today's parents' meeting. And
[19:33]
she shared it; He is finding out
[19:35]
if the school will publish it in St.
[19:36]
John's.
[19:36]
Oh, that's great. Thank you. Okay, so
[19:39]
yeah, can we quickly review the list of
[19:41]
people
[19:43]
who were added? So, the
[19:45]
superintendent, oh yes, the
[19:49]
Peabody Essex Street Library.
[19:51]
Yes.
[19:52]
Should I do it myself or just
[19:54]
send it to the, uh, the trustees?
[19:57]
Uh, I can bring one myself. Um, I think
[20:00]
you'd want to send it to the
[20:03]
principal. I don't think so, the trustees are
[20:06]
n't going to publish it. I mean, you could
[20:07]
send it to the trustees. Um. I
[20:09]
simply didn't know how
[20:10]
the hierarchy worked there, I sent.
[20:11]
Them.
[20:13]
To the president, I think Noel is the
[20:15]
president.
[20:15]
Yes.
[20:16]
And the trustees right now?
[20:17]
Oh, good. Noel is definitely the
[20:19]
president. Um, we're
[20:24]
Danvers' account, they agreed to share it. Um. Oh,
[20:30]
yes. And then Pastor Pam at
[20:33]
Maple Street Church, oh. Um, her. Um,
[20:39]
I can contact her, unless someone
[20:40]
else has a close relationship with
[20:42]
her. I do
[20:44]
n't. In fact, I had, uh, a
[20:48]
relationship, at least a professional one, with
[20:52]
Pastor Borges at Gillette.
[20:57]
Who was Pastor Borges?
[20:58]
Yes.
[20:58]
Who were Gillette and Borges?
[20:59]
They were, but a good guy.
[21:02]
In fact, I know him.
[21:03]
I like how you thought about that.
[21:04]
Yes.
[21:08]
Um, and Side contacted him to see if he'd be
[21:10]
willing to be a contact. And I'm just finding out now
[21:13]
. Um, I haven't spoken
[21:16]
to anyone since English Stream.
[21:18]
Okay, so we can mark H R I C
[21:21]
, man.
[21:23]
Yes.
[21:24]
And then I'll pass them on to you for
[21:25]
all those other people. I'll send
[21:28]
that to them.
[21:28]
And if you want to take care of any of
[21:30]
them,
[21:31]
it's easy. It's the easiest thing for me to
[21:32]
send. I'll probably do it on Monday
[21:36]
, because Friday could get lost in the
[21:38]
whole weekend. Alright
[21:39]
.
[21:40]
So we'll send them on Monday. Um.
[21:45]
This high school town hall
[21:46]
and library are
[21:47]
somewhere. Either Join Rivers or Birch Ridge.
[21:53]
Okay, and then the Facebook event,
[21:55]
where we left off is that we haven't
[21:56]
created it. We really can't figure out
[21:59]
how to, um, add them as partners. Yes.
[22:03]
Um, and I'll just send them an
[22:05]
email. Yes that's fine. Know.
[22:07]
Um, I should have done it already, but I
[22:09]
completely forgot. I
[22:10]
understand. It's really difficult
[22:13]
to know which rules are flexible and
[22:15]
which ones are, well, firm.
[22:17]
Yes, I think we're
[22:20]
fine. We are making progress with our
[22:21]
event. We will do it no matter what.
[22:23]
You know, after this, I think
[22:25]
we're ready. It's more of a formality
[22:26]
at this point.
[22:27]
Yes, I don't think they'll appear at the
[22:28]
hearing. TRUE. Yes, well. Our
[22:31]
clients
[22:32]
, and I had my, uh, book club
[22:35]
with them.
[22:36]
Oh.
[22:37]
So that was very interesting.
[22:38]
Yes.
[22:39]
Uh, it was like a room, uh, you know, a
[22:41]
Zoom room full of, I don't know,
[22:43]
I'd say about 40 people.
[22:44]
Wow. We
[22:45]
all had our
[22:46]
book titles. Uh, and they were people who were
[22:49]
instructors, people who have
[22:51]
upcoming events and things like that. And then they
[22:54]
put us in small groups
[22:56]
after the initial welcome. And I
[23:00]
was with our instructor, who was a
[23:04]
woman with autism from Colorado. I was
[23:07]
with a woman with schizophrenia from
[23:09]
London and then another woman who was born
[23:13]
in Ecuador, lived in Switzerland for 25
[23:15]
years and now lives in Scotland and is a
[23:18]
medium. So it was a
[23:22]
really interesting conversation and there were a lot of
[23:24]
interesting connections. And what
[23:26]
we were talking about, especially between the
[23:29]
girl who experiences schizophrenia and
[23:31]
the woman with the gift of mediumship, is that
[23:34]
both of them hear voices. They talked a lot
[23:38]
about it, and what happened to the girl
[23:40]
with schizophrenia was that she had a
[23:42]
really, really intense depression.
[23:45]
One time she was so desperate
[23:46]
that she booked a trip to South America
[23:48]
for an ayahuasca retreat. And the
[23:50]
woman from Ecuador said, "Oh, no." And
[23:55]
then he did the ayahuasca retreat. And
[23:58]
apparently, according to her, it cured her of
[24:00]
depression, but she developed
[24:01]
schizophrenia. And she does have, or had,
[24:06]
schizophrenia or something similar in some
[24:09]
way. So, perhaps it was some
[24:12]
kind of predisposition, but it was very
[24:14]
interesting to hear them talk. So
[24:17]
, I definitely recommend
[24:19]
anyone check out the
[24:20]
free reading or something like that, because it was
[24:22]
great. Hi Karen, welcome.
[24:26]
Thank you. Thank you.
[24:28]
What is it?
[24:29]
Thank you, I'm so sorry. Do
[24:31]
n't worry. So, we were
[24:34]
talking about how Gardner has some
[24:36]
of those billboards that we can use to
[24:38]
put up our ads.
[24:41]
Understood.
[24:41]
Uh, and we were talking about who
[24:43]
we're contacting. That is, the
[24:45]
schools, the town hall, the
[24:47]
library. Uh, we're Danvers, uh, one
[24:52]
of the churches. So if you have
[24:54]
any ideas for that,
[24:56]
oh, what? Perhaps also the
[24:58]
cafe, like Cafe Nero, the
[24:59]
cafe on High Street. Sorry? I
[25:03]
doubt they aren't there.
[25:04]
Oh, excellent.
[25:06]
And Joni in Chi Kimello, she's great.
[25:08]
She would do it.
[25:15]
Absolutely. Of course. That's
[25:17]
where I met her. She is open and
[25:18]
I met her in the cafeteria.
[25:19]
What? In Chi Kimello?
[25:20]
yes. Yes, go ahead. You can
[25:23]
go back to the electrical part.
[25:23]
Hello. Do you remember me?
[25:26]
But she has some of my old
[25:27]
comics that we started with.
[25:28]
Oh, incredible.
[25:30]
Um, okay, so what else? Oh,
[25:33]
we were just talking about...
[25:40]
Uh, your open mic night.
[25:42]
Oh, you're at
[25:43]
open mic night.
[25:43]
That's right, yes.
[25:45]
open, um, like the
[25:47]
book training to which the
[25:48]
human library invited us.
[25:50]
Yes, yes, yes.
[25:51]
I think it was really interesting.
[25:52]
Oh, wow.
[25:53]
So, there was me, our
[25:55]
instructor who was a woman with
[25:56]
autism, then a woman with
[25:58]
schizophrenia from London and a woman from
[25:59]
Ecuador, those were the three of them.
[26:03]
What about the women of Ecuador? I'm sorry.
[26:05]
The spiritual medium. Uh-huh
[26:06]
. It
[26:07]
was really interesting. So, if you
[26:10]
have the opportunity to do one,
[26:11]
go for it. It's pretty cool.
[26:13]
So, was the purpose of the
[26:15]
books to have practical applications?
[26:17]
For practice, they told us we
[26:19]
shouldn't get involved. She told me
[26:21]
to just reduce mine a little, and
[26:23]
then told me I should do it
[26:25]
instead of quadriplegic wheelchair user
[26:27]
, which was between those
[26:29]
two anyway. I was like, he
[26:31]
kept insisting it was really
[26:33]
bad, so I went with the vaguest thing I
[26:34]
could think of, which is that he's a
[26:36]
wheelchair user. But I think it's good
[26:39]
that the title does a little more
[26:41]
work than that, so no, I'm going to
[26:43]
do five or six photos for my
[26:45]
title. Um, and we have another
[26:49]
addition. Thanks to HRIC, um, a
[26:52]
new site coordinator,
[26:54]
Lieutenant Sullivan, whom everyone
[26:55]
met at the walk audit
[26:57]
. He too will be a book.
[26:59]
Oh, good.
[27:01]
So, that will be great. Um.
[27:05]
We talked about the Facebook event. I'm
[27:06]
going to contact them about partnering up. Um,
[27:09]
oh, yes, the lobby television.
[27:12]
So, that's a, it's a widescreen
[27:15]
like this, right? It's not like a
[27:18]
rotation or anything like that.
[27:19]
It's like, it's horizontal like this.
[27:21]
Horizontal, okay. So, I can
[27:23]
prepare something using elements from
[27:25]
Ellie's steering wheel or something for the
[27:27]
screen right there. But what kind
[27:30]
of information do we think would be most
[27:32]
beneficial? Like
[27:36]
book titles or...?
[27:38]
I'm thinking that the
[27:39]
librarian training they had, was a
[27:41]
bit low-tech, some of
[27:43]
the. They took, uh, there was like a
[27:48]
voiceover over a video of a real event
[27:50]
, and it was very low-tech, with, you
[27:53]
know, the title of the book that you could
[27:55]
, it was like a kind of
[27:57]
in-and-out action.
[28:00]
Yes. I do
[28:00]
n't know, which, actually, I kind of liked
[28:03]
.
[28:04]
Yes.
[28:05]
Uh, I liked the low-
[28:06]
tech part of that.
[28:07]
Yes.
[28:08]
To be totally honest.
[28:09]
Less disappointing.
[28:11]
Yes. And then, literally just
[28:13]
handle it, pick one up and check it.
[28:16]
Oh yes, no, that's what I meant, in
[28:17]
terms of whether you just have them all up there
[28:19]
. Not necessarily what
[28:22]
is available or not, just what books
[28:24]
we have in general. I was thinking of
[28:26]
the screen more as a
[28:28]
useful accessory. There's no need.
[28:30]
Oh, okay. So, a
[28:32]
simpler version of this.
[28:33]
Yes, something like that. Just like,
[28:35]
just with the title text? Just the
[28:37]
title of the book we're making? It
[28:39]
could just be the book we're
[28:40]
making. Yes.
[28:42]
Maybe like with this.
[28:44]
Really like an ice cream shop menu or
[28:45]
something.
[28:46]
Yes. Yes.
[28:48]
Okay. This rolls. So,
[28:50]
we could also
[28:51]
use this if you want, well, it
[28:53]
's on wheels. So, this
[28:56]
can be used just as much as the one
[28:58]
on the wall. This one is bigger.
[29:02]
Actually, it's a "You can show more and it
[29:05]
can be seen more easily" option. The other one
[29:08]
is like a 60-inch flat screen
[29:10]
.
[29:10]
That's very good. I think at one
[29:13]
point we talked about maybe using one of
[29:15]
those very short introductory videos
[29:17]
and playing it.
[29:18]
Oh, yes. Yes. Yes.
[29:21]
Um, about the training sessions, uh, just so
[29:23]
people have an idea,
[29:24]
especially if they're waiting, like, if they
[29:26]
arrive here and everyone's already
[29:27]
checked in. Uh, that sounds weird. Uh, and
[29:31]
then I got completely distracted. Yeah,
[29:34]
so there's something to see.
[29:37]
Yes, we could keep it. Well, I was going to
[29:41]
say we could keep it
[29:43]
silent with subtitles, but if
[29:45]
someone has low vision and wants to be able to
[29:46]
hear it, because I was just trying to
[29:48]
reduce the noise in the lobby, but I do
[29:50]
n't know. What do you think?
[29:53]
I think the sound is fine.
[29:54]
yes. Okay,
[29:56]
yes.
[29:56]
If you don't have that sound, they're just going to
[29:58]
talk.
[29:59]
Yes, exactly.
[29:59]
TRUE.
[30:00]
So at least it keeps them
[30:02]
interested
[30:03]
. Yes,
[30:03]
in what they can expect.
[30:05]
Yes, especially if you have to stand in an
[30:06]
uncomfortable line.
[30:07]
Yes, they could listen without having to
[30:09]
look, right?
[30:11]
But I think two televisions in the
[30:13]
lobby, one above the fireplace,
[30:15]
isn't that obvious. That's right
[30:16]
. Those are for entering.
[30:18]
That would be better.
[30:20]
Me too. But, someone I
[30:21]
mentioned earlier, or this person, is sitting at the
[30:24]
front of the line.
[30:25]
This can go anywhere.
[30:28]
Welcome. Uh, but, yes. That guy,
[30:31]
one of the guys looks at the kids and
[30:32]
you think, we probably all had to see that
[30:34]
at least.
[30:35]
Thank you. Yes, I was, I was at every
[30:37]
training session.
[30:39]
And that will have subtitles, so
[30:40]
I can either ask for them or extract and
[30:41]
download it. Or I guess we can just
[30:45]
go.
[30:46]
Oh, that's true. Just click
[30:48]
Yes, play it.
[30:50]
What do you think would be easier, Matt
[30:51]
? Playing a USB drive with the
[30:55]
file or accessing it via the web?
[30:59]
If it's a smart TV, it's
[31:00]
probably a physical copy.
[31:01]
Yes, that's it. Not relying on Wi-Fi is
[31:04]
probably better. Alright
[31:05]
. I think so, no problem.
[31:06]
And just in I'm going to
[31:08]
download the
[31:10]
intro video, put it on a
[31:11]
USB drive, and then you can connect it directly
[31:13]
to the TV.
[31:14]
Yes. Because I'm trying to find...
[31:17]
Let me guess, you can't access it.
[31:18]
No, I mean, I wanted to see what he
[31:20]
had already posted as well. If they had
[31:23]
one of those on YouTube as an intro. Um,
[31:26]
instead of going through that weird website
[31:29]
.
[31:29]
TRUE.
[31:31]
You are using your browser, you are not entering
[31:32]
the live stream now. Just go to the live stream.
[31:35]
That's it, that's where the live stream is.
[31:43]
Um, we also have, oh, we have D-CAT
[31:45]
. I was going to contact D-CAT as well. Let them
[31:48]
come and maybe take pictures of the event
[31:50]
.
[31:51]
Um, Chris, the guy who won the
[31:53]
504 Film Festival, is very
[31:55]
interested. He wants to come and film here
[31:57]
. He works with D-CAT. So I
[32:00]
said to him, "Yes, come on." Then I'll
[32:03]
contact him.
[32:05]
One thing for both of you, I think it's
[32:07]
important to let you know that you can film
[32:10]
in the lobby, but you shouldn't film
[32:13]
the stories.
[32:17]
Yes, that's what I figured. I thought someone
[32:19]
would come with a camera to
[32:21]
immortalize it a bit and show what
[32:23]
we did.
[32:24]
Yes.
[32:26]
And then, yeah, it was like, yeah, Chris
[32:27]
can bring the camera, but it's not like you
[32:29]
can film while I'm
[32:30]
sitting next to me. You can get
[32:33]
pictures of all of us when we get
[32:35]
together, all the books.
[32:36]
Yes, absolutely. And I would say that
[32:38]
those of you who are books
[32:40]
here, if you are comfortable with
[32:42]
the conversation being recorded, then it
[32:44]
is a possibility. I simply wouldn't
[32:46]
feel comfortable looking at the rest of
[32:48]
them like, "Hey, we're already
[32:49]
asking you to be vulnerable. Do you
[32:51]
like being filmed?"
[32:54]
I also thought they could film it
[32:56]
in progress, but silently or something
[33:00]
. Yeah,
[33:00]
add a voiceover or something like that.
[33:03]
Um, because I think capturing it at full
[33:06]
speed would be a good idea. But
[33:10]
I agree with you, you know, the
[33:13]
conversations and not just us
[33:15]
being vulnerable, but some of
[33:17]
those people asking questions that they don't
[33:20]
feel comfortable asking in the
[33:22]
outside world. So if we take that away
[33:24]
, it's like, yes, being aware of
[33:26]
a camera changes
[33:27]
someone's behavior.
[33:28]
Yes, absolutely. I do
[33:29]
n't think I want to do that. I
[33:31]
just went by and kind of did an
[33:34]
aerial view and then just to get, like I
[33:37]
said, the whole process.
[33:42]
As Mel said, it's like we're
[33:45]
following the readers as they enter the
[33:48]
room and something like that.
[33:50]
I wonder if we could even—this
[33:52]
might be too complicated—have
[33:55]
like a message on the screen or something
[33:57]
that just says, you know, you might see
[33:59]
someone filming, no audio will be recorded
[34:01]
or anything like that.
[34:03]
Yes.
[34:05]
The books would know it beforehand,
[34:06]
but only for the people who arrive.
[34:09]
Yes, okay, like a legal notice
[34:11]
saying that we will not record any
[34:13]
of the conversations, only obtaining
[34:15]
general images of the event.
[34:17]
Mhm.
[34:18]
Brilliant. I like that idea. Um, we talked
[34:22]
about sandwiches and water. Um,
[34:26]
we talked about that last time.
[34:29]
And then, the images from the event. Um, I
[34:33]
was just kind of
[34:34]
diving right into it. I don't
[34:36]
know what else we have on our
[34:38]
checklist that we need to
[34:40]
take care of, because we do assign things from
[34:42]
the list, right?
[34:43]
Please, so I would like to
[34:44]
try to find it. It's in the
[34:47]
spreadsheet with the books we
[34:49]
had.
[34:50]
I'm terrible at "Is It in the Docs?"
[34:54]
Yes, yes, and I do. Yes,
[34:55]
there are tabs at the bottom
[34:56]
of the Google document.
[34:57]
Yes. Um, I might always need to
[35:00]
learn, but I haven't the slightest
[35:03]
idea about it. They
[35:06]
also have some
[35:07]
good accessibility tools available.
[35:10]
So, I think it sometimes requires a
[35:12]
lot of research to find what's
[35:14]
useful.
[35:16]
But yes, I have it in the human
[35:18]
library's book tracking file
[35:20]
, the draft file. It's on
[35:23]
the second tab, which says "
[35:25]
pending 2026". So. We need
[35:33]
brochures and evaluation surveys
[35:35]
. I think...has it
[35:38]
already been shared?
[35:40]
Okay, I can share it with you.
[35:44]
Perhaps not at this time.
[35:45]
Yes of
[35:45]
course. I work very closely with a
[35:48]
woman with low vision and we both provide
[35:50]
accessibility training. I
[35:53]
could always contact her if you're
[35:55]
curious about this, like how to get in
[35:58]
touch with her and get...
[36:00]
I'm like...
[36:01]
screen assistive technology. It
[36:02]
definitely falls behind.
[36:03]
Yes, because
[36:05]
screen reader technology isn't
[36:06]
my strong suit, but it definitely is
[36:08]
yours.
[36:09]
Yes, I'm aware of that. I can
[36:12]
manage. I don't even know
[36:14]
how to do anything with it. How to open and
[36:18]
edit, and simply how all that...
[36:22]
It's really...
[36:23]
its functionality, regardless of
[36:24]
the vision behind the technology.
[36:28]
Yes, you also need...
[36:28]
I'd like to say it's because of your
[36:30]
vision. I'll be honest. I have
[36:34]
spreadsheets.
[36:35]
Yes.
[36:35]
I need a little tutorial on
[36:38]
how...at this point I sometimes forget
[36:40]
that not everything is intuitive. Alright
[36:43]
. It's your business, but it's not what
[36:46]
...you don't use technology daily. It's
[36:49]
like there's no need for it, so to
[36:52]
speak. And that's why I haven't
[36:55]
learned it. So I can also
[36:58]
copy and paste the list into the
[37:00]
email I send. I'm sending it to
[37:03]
everyone with a blind carbon copy. Just don't
[37:04]
reply to everyone, but you don't have...the
[37:08]
information about the environment. Yes. But
[37:12]
going back to... But yes, if we need
[37:14]
signs for the space, like
[37:16]
directional signage or something,
[37:19]
how do we do that? We need
[37:22]
name tags. I think
[37:25]
ordinary labels are
[37:28]
fine. And I'll use permanent markers,
[37:31]
but I can bring... Only for roles
[37:34]
like librarian and things like that. It's
[37:37]
also for those of us on
[37:39]
the committee who have our
[37:41]
names there, and any reader who wants to
[37:43]
have their name there too. And then
[37:46]
for the books, so I'll have that
[37:48]
available. So.
[37:50]
I can ask for that with our money
[37:52]
too.
[37:53]
Yes.
[37:54]
I'll order the name tags.
[37:56]
OK. Um, the colored chips,
[38:00]
that's an idea from, um, the
[38:03]
Norwood Human Library event where they
[38:06]
had three different colors. One
[38:09]
meant the book was ready
[38:11]
for someone new, another said they
[38:13]
needed help, and another said they
[38:14]
needed a break. Mhm. Alright
[38:17]
. So
[38:17]
that they can exchange.
[38:19]
Oh, does she have one? I think I
[38:21]
have them.
[38:21]
Oh, okay. That would be great. She
[38:24]
said she believes she has all her
[38:26]
chips at home.
[38:27]
Yes, so maybe we need
[38:28]
some.
[38:33]
Um. I do
[38:34]
n't know what I am...
[38:35]
So this is it, this is your thing. It does
[38:39]
n't really matter what colors
[38:41]
we have because we'll be writing the text
[38:43]
on all of them. Get rid of them.
[38:48]
No, that's perfect, because you know, as long as
[38:49]
you have, what? Three for each
[38:50]
book, then we're good.
[38:53]
This way, librarians will know who
[38:55]
is ready and who is taking a
[38:57]
break. Keeping them out.
[38:59]
Yes.
[38:59]
Keeping the files together.
[39:03]
I know you've been...very well, so
[39:05]
the things we're ordering so far
[39:07]
are, um, posters for the
[39:09]
signs and the...
[39:11]
name tags.
[39:11]
that's fine.
[39:13]
Um, oh yes, and I was saying that, uh, the
[39:16]
evaluation surveys for both
[39:18]
readers and books. In the end,
[39:22]
you just need to print them. I think they're
[39:24]
in the, um...
[39:27]
Yes, in the Dropbox folder.
[39:29]
It's like a, it's a couple of pages. Yes
[39:31]
, I remember we were talking about trying to
[39:33]
condense them. And it just seems
[39:35]
easier to send them back, print them out,
[39:36]
and all that. I was going
[39:39]
to say send them to me, and
[39:41]
thank you.
[39:42]
I think it's a PDF right now.
[39:45]
So, I think it really is, yes,
[39:46]
you know, it's, you know, what's really
[39:48]
needed. Yes. Let's... I mean
[39:52]
... I wouldn't mind transcribing it
[39:56]
into a form and then, if people
[39:58]
wanted to, I suppose if you could make
[40:00]
a QR code that links to the form,
[40:02]
people could scan it and fill it out.
[40:05]
That's what I was thinking.
[40:08]
If people want to be able to do it
[40:09]
digitally instead of sitting down to
[40:11]
write it by hand.
[40:12]
Oh, I, I can convert a PDF into
[40:14]
something editable. That was the problem.
[40:18]
I was thinking of transcribing it into,
[40:20]
like, Google...
[40:22]
Okay.
[40:23]
And then, it would automatically create a
[40:25]
spreadsheet where you could track
[40:27]
all the comments in one place.
[40:29]
So, that's probably more
[40:30]
valuable.
[40:31]
Yes. Because otherwise we're,
[40:35]
like, manually...
[40:36]
Yes.
[40:36]
Scanning in an archaic way.
[40:43]
That's true.
[40:43]
As you know. I mean
[40:44]
, I think it would be valuable to
[40:46]
have printed copies.
[40:47]
Yes.
[40:47]
Oh, that's great. Although we
[40:49]
will have it.
[40:49]
Likely. The other good thing about that is
[40:53]
that people wouldn't have to do it on
[40:55]
the spot and hand it in. They could
[40:56]
do it at home, for example. They could
[40:58]
start it and then realize it, you know
[40:59]
what? I really want to think about this and
[41:01]
send it the next day.
[41:03]
Yes.
[41:04]
I think we should encourage...I think that's it
[41:06]
...
[41:08]
Who else is there?
[41:08]
Yes.
[41:09]
But we should encourage people to
[41:10]
do it so they don't
[41:11]
forget.
[41:12]
Yes.
[41:12]
sure. You're
[41:14]
not getting away from here.
[41:15]
Clear. Now, what... I mean, for
[41:18]
lack of a better term, how do we track
[41:19]
the people who have come? Do they leave
[41:22]
their email address so we can
[41:24]
follow up somehow? For
[41:26]
example, perhaps to get
[41:28]
feedback?
[41:29]
They are using a record sheet.
[41:32]
Yes.
[41:34]
I think there should be some kind of
[41:36]
closure or something final. Well, you don't have to
[41:41]
tell us who you spoke to, but you can
[41:43]
give us their
[41:45]
contact information.
[41:46]
And about your event.
[41:47]
Yes, absolutely. Yes. I'm doing this because I
[41:55]
really can't add anything right now
[41:56]
. Alright
[41:57]
. She has a very pleasant aura
[42:04]
.
[42:05]
It's true. I mean
[42:07]
, I love this. I'm
[42:09]
sure you'll love it. I'm
[42:10]
sure I'll take this with me everywhere
[42:11]
. This isn't the king of the
[42:13]
bathroom.
[42:13]
There he is. I mean
[42:14]
, I can. I
[42:15]
'm not blaming her at all.
[42:18]
This is the...This is the to-do list I
[42:20]
put in the spreadsheet. I
[42:22]
simply ran out of space here
[42:24]
, so I'm going to put this here and
[42:25]
then you'll get "
[42:27]
You have plans".
[42:28]
Yes, I trust you.
[42:30]
Okay, we need to distribute leaflets
[42:33]
around the city and put posters on every
[42:36]
table.
[42:38]
signs, uh title.
[42:40]
So each...Oh, yes. TRUE.
[42:43]
Each table, whether table number or
[42:45]
title. Um, we have titles for
[42:49]
most people. Um, but I want to
[42:55]
give people space to
[42:58]
change it on the same day if they want, or once they
[43:00]
finish their training.
[43:02]
Like, what if they...? I was going
[43:03]
to say that we'll leave them outside
[43:04]
with permanent markers and they
[43:06]
can write their
[43:06]
Yes, yes, yes. things. But I also
[43:10]
think that having a sign on the table that
[43:12]
says the table number so that when
[43:14]
the librarians...when we are
[43:16]
guiding people...none of the
[43:18]
words work. Um
[43:21]
the function We have the purpose.
[43:24]
When, you know, we bring people into
[43:26]
the room and say, "Oh, you want to talk
[43:29]
to the project collegiate, he's at
[43:31]
this table."
[43:32]
Yes. We have table numbers. Oh
[43:35]
really? Well,
[43:37]
only as metal.
[43:38]
Yes, perfect.
[43:39]
A little eh
[43:41]
Oh, like at a wedding.
[43:42]
Yes, practically.
[43:43]
For events.
[43:44]
That would be your identifier. Okay,
[43:45]
great.
[43:47]
That's it. So, I can take, I'll take
[43:53]
your table numbers.
[43:59]
I love using existing resources
[44:01]
. Yes. Um, I have the
[44:06]
magnetic board. Um, all I'll do is
[44:09]
use magnets on the whiteboard and simply
[44:11]
have a section for available,
[44:13]
unavailable, or check-in and check-
[44:15]
out, and then put the names on it and
[44:18]
just move them around like in the video. I
[44:20]
feel like I'm missing things, but at the same
[44:26]
time I feel like we're doing
[44:28]
well. Why? Why? I ca
[44:31]
n't.
[44:34]
Just to clarify, on the board,
[44:36]
where are you? Is that...?
[44:40]
We can easily place it against the
[44:42]
...we can easily.
[44:43]
Oh, that would be truly wonderful. I
[44:46]
need to measure. Is
[44:48]
that responsible for the numbers?
[44:52]
Like a magnetic crystal.
[44:55]
Would it be beneficial for me to print
[44:57]
only the QR code so that we have it
[44:59]
in certain places? To go. I don't know if
[45:03]
we have something like on the whiteboard or something like that
[45:04]
. I don't know. We can just
[45:06]
stick it there.
[45:06]
Where does the QR code go? Linking.
[45:09]
Oh, it's for Facebook. Oh, I guess so
[45:10]
, what's the point of that?
[45:12]
Yes, we did it here.
[45:13]
Well, maybe for the
[45:15]
subsequent survey.
[45:16]
Yes, once we have the form
[45:18]
ready and the link, I'll send it to you.
[45:20]
That would be good, and then
[45:24]
, OK, I'll generate a QR code for
[45:25]
the survey once I have it.
[45:26]
Yes.
[45:39]
Wait, did I type control or
[45:40]
barcode?
[45:44]
Um, a lot of this is marketing and I think we're
[45:47]
doing pretty well
[45:49]
there. Um, and then signage for
[45:54]
the day of the event. I think I already have
[45:56]
those things. And I think we talked about all of
[45:59]
this.
[46:01]
Yes. Oh. Oh, yes. It already says to share that
[46:09]
with the new Jersey. We saw it. Mine
[46:12]
is already redundant. Alright
[46:13]
.
[46:14]
Um, are there any other churches like
[46:16]
Maple Street Congregational or any
[46:19]
other religious groups you think I should
[46:22]
contact? I
[46:23]
know someone there.
[46:24]
Um
[46:24]
Maple Street um
[46:26]
Right.
[46:26]
Congregational Church. That's where
[46:28]
my grandson goes to school.
[46:30]
Yes.
[46:30]
Preschool. So, I can say
[46:32]
Pamela is really great there. She
[46:33]
is the pastor. Do you want to
[46:36]
let them know about that?
[46:37]
Yes, maybe I can just get my
[46:40]
husband to bring one of these.
[46:42]
Yes.
[46:44]
He picks it up. Our neighbor goes to
[46:48]
church.
[46:50]
Brilliant.
[46:51]
Yes, her. She is,
[46:52]
and I can simply pull up the
[46:54]
email, like the
[46:56]
virtual post she made.
[46:57]
Yes.
[46:59]
Great. Very well, then we're making
[47:01]
good progress.
[47:02]
Yes. Where are we at with the, um
[47:05]
...for the town's social events
[47:08]
?
[47:10]
Oh, yes. It's the same thing, exactly the same. So we
[47:13]
should have a good
[47:14]
relationship there to post things
[47:16]
for each other. So I was going to
[47:17]
send it to her along with all the
[47:19]
other people I was going to
[47:20]
contact on Monday. Um, regarding the
[47:24]
publication, who's going to publish?
[47:29]
here in town
[47:30]
? Um, probably separate the
[47:35]
QR code into its own slide. No, that wouldn't make
[47:38]
sense. Just have a link,
[47:41]
because you can't scan a code
[47:42]
from a phone.
[47:43]
I mean, people do it all the time and
[47:45]
then you're like, "I know, yeah, I'm on my
[47:47]
phone." Yes.
[47:48]
so I'll just take a look
[47:50]
so they can interact; You can't really;
[47:52]
you can share the link,
[47:54]
but it can't be clicked on
[47:55]
Instagram unless it's a purchase.
[47:57]
I think it's more.
[47:59]
This information is the most important
[48:01]
.
[48:01]
Yes, but they're getting more of that
[48:03]
, including email addresses
[48:04]
, yes, because that way
[48:06]
we can always direct people to Facebook.
[48:08]
OK. So it's probably
[48:11]
mostly the title and subtitle
[48:13]
of the little guide, the little bit of
[48:15]
information. It will probably take up
[48:18]
most of, um, it will take up almost
[48:20]
all of the space in the
[48:22]
Instagram post.
[48:23]
Yes.
[48:23]
So great. Ellie, can you
[48:28]
share the Canva project with me?
[48:31]
She used, she created, she used Adobe Spark
[48:34]
.
[48:34]
OK. I
[48:36]
only got fancy because I couldn't
[48:38]
import their fonts into our
[48:39]
app.
[48:41]
Oh, okay.
[48:42]
So, but that's it
[48:42]
, do you know what type of file it is
[48:45]
? Okay, but
[48:46]
I can send it to you. You can do whatever you
[48:48]
want.
[48:49]
Yes, send me an
[48:52]
email too, but I'll say it right now just so it's on
[48:54]
record
[48:55]
, that might help you remember. But I'll
[48:57]
email you just
[48:59]
to see if you can send me something with
[49:02]
layers so I can extract all the
[49:04]
elements.
[49:05]
That's fine thanks.
[49:05]
Thank you. A TIF, you
[49:07]
know, a TIF file or something like that. Alright
[49:08]
. I
[49:09]
think it's perfect. So, if I think
[49:13]
, it's like you take the, um, relationship and
[49:16]
change it. So if you can change it,
[49:19]
create something that is already square. So
[49:25]
make this square. OK. Clear.
[49:28]
Because that's the relationship, that's the relationship
[49:30]
for Instagram.
[49:31]
Oh.
[49:32]
Yes.
[49:33]
one by one.
[49:35]
Yes, yes. Um, yes. TRUE.
[49:39]
If not, you can send me the bottles. I
[49:41]
, I can put something together. Um, yeah, just
[49:43]
something that fits in that square space
[49:46]
for that. Um, do you know if Procreate is
[49:50]
pixel-based or vector-based, or is it like
[49:52]
infinitely scalable? Does
[49:55]
that make sense? Like, forget it. I'm sorry. You
[50:00]
've lost me. I'll send you all
[50:03]
four bottles right now.
[50:12]
Yes, you lost me. I'm sorry
[50:15]
.
[50:16]
Again, so that's where you have it
[50:18]
, oh my God! Are you talking about
[50:21]
vectors?
[50:21]
Miracle, I didn't realize you could
[50:24]
upload fonts to Procreate.
[50:25]
Okay. That's why I didn't do it
[50:26]
.
[50:28]
I said, "Well, I can't." It's
[50:30]
on my iPad. It is, I think it is.
[50:34]
Yes, it's an Apple product. That's
[50:36]
quite a lot.
[50:36]
As an artist. As if.
[50:39]
I have an iPad Pro.
[50:41]
No, against this it is, this is mine. Yes,
[50:45]
you have a lot of iPads. I have many things
[50:49]
. Yes.
[50:55]
Any input I receive from
[50:56]
anyone, I can send it for
[50:58]
review. Um. Anything else we can think of
[51:05]
for the event? This is
[51:06]
our last meeting before the
[51:08]
event, so.
[51:09]
OK. In other words
[51:11]
, I think we're on the right track. I
[51:12]
think we're doing great.
[51:13]
I think we have everything.
[51:15]
I think if we're, you know, on the same
[51:17]
day, and we say, "Oh my God, we didn't
[51:18]
do that bonfire thing!" "We are
[51:21]
here."
[51:24]
Yes.
[51:24]
I'm very.
[51:25]
Close by, so you forgot or whatever
[51:26]
. How early?
[51:29]
Can we get here?
[51:30]
How early do you want to start
[51:31]
work on Saturday?
[51:33]
As soon as you allow me.
[51:35]
Can we come in here?
[51:36]
Oh, yes.
[51:38]
Um, I asked that the books arrive by
[51:41]
... and if they can.
[51:42]
Have.
[51:43]
Um, like that.
[51:44]
Mhm.
[51:44]
We can talk about logistics.
[51:46]
Um.
[51:47]
and.
[51:49]
Yes.
[51:50]
Especially if someone didn't complete their
[51:51]
training. Have conversations
[51:54]
about things like, what do you want your
[51:55]
presentation to be? Do you have any concerns
[51:59]
or Google Voice? On
[52:01]
the third day we will do that type of
[52:02]
question and answer with everyone.
[52:04]
Mhm. Also, by asking everyone to
[52:08]
arrive at 9:00, if they're like
[52:10]
my family, they'll at least be here by
[52:13]
9:30 or 9:45. So. They will
[52:15]
definitely be here by
[52:16]
9:00.
[52:16]
Exact.
[52:18]
Brilliant. Um,
[52:23]
I just want to make sure everything is
[52:24]
okay.
[52:25]
No, let me know if it's already been dealt with or
[52:28]
everything's been prepared. We're like, where's
[52:32]
everything going to be? How many people? Are we going to
[52:35]
be in the big room?
[52:36]
In the large room. All the books
[52:37]
will be on the tables.
[52:38]
OK. There is so much space that there will
[52:40]
be room between the tables.
[52:42]
OK.
[52:43]
So, I don't think that's it. It's just that
[52:45]
in some photos from other
[52:47]
events, they're standing next to each
[52:49]
other.
[52:51]
Like four people sitting at a
[52:53]
table with no space between them. And we don't have to
[52:55]
do that here.
[52:56]
There is plenty of space.
[52:58]
And if you want, we can put the
[53:00]
snacks and other things in the
[53:01]
classroom.
[53:02]
Oh, great. That's
[53:02]
a good idea. And then we'll
[53:05]
eat outside.
[53:06]
Yes, that would be good. And that also
[53:08]
gives the people at the top a place to
[53:10]
go and take a breather. Yes.
[53:14]
Perhaps I should prepare another room.
[53:15]
Can we prepare it here so
[53:17]
you have a place for snacks and
[53:19]
other things? We
[53:20]
're not using
[53:21]
Yes. You have the whole building.
[53:23]
Oh, but what about the people in
[53:24]
books?
[53:25]
Yes, anyone.
[53:27]
So, we have two with the
[53:29]
large hall and then we will have two
[53:30]
classrooms.
[53:31]
OK.
[53:31]
Yes, but these halls are right
[53:33]
there.
[53:33]
OK.
[53:34]
I like having something there just in case, I
[53:36]
guess. That's easier than
[53:40]
my plan, I know the organization
[53:44]
says 30 minutes. My plan is actually to
[53:47]
schedule people for 25 minutes
[53:50]
so that everyone gets at least five
[53:52]
minutes of break time.
[53:53]
Yes.
[53:54]
Take a break. Drink some water
[53:57]
. Do what you need to do before
[53:59]
someone else comes back in. And I just
[54:03]
sent you a lot of timers
[54:04]
on my phone.
[54:05]
Yes.
[54:06]
I have, well, there are three.
[54:08]
We should
[54:08]
just get the
[54:09]
traditional kitchen timer, shouldn't we?
[54:10]
Yes.
[54:12]
I could have some of those. Do
[54:13]
you have the budget? Do
[54:14]
you have those? We have it. I think I have
[54:18]
one. I know you feel it. They are very
[54:22]
useful.
[54:23]
Yes.
[54:27]
Okay, I'm ready.
[54:28]
Well, there are some ways, I mean
[54:30]
, we can set up our phones.
[54:32]
Yes, they also have phones. I'm sorry
[54:35]
. I'm going to set a timer
[54:37]
so we don't go over the time limit.
[54:38]
That's
[54:39]
right.
[54:39]
That way we give others a chance. I know you
[54:41]
will. I was
[54:43]
n't going to do it, but now
[54:44]
you know how to do that. Yes. Karen
[54:47]
doesn't need you to ask her for a
[54:49]
timer. I
[54:52]
usually set the alarm. But
[54:54]
we have a budget for timers
[54:56]
. no.
[54:58]
Then we have them forever.
[54:59]
The truth is, I like this. This
[55:01]
works better because it goes like this.
[55:03]
Hey.
[55:04]
I try to be
[55:05]
everything at once. They do everything at the same time.
[55:07]
Repeat it. They do
[55:08]
everything at the same time.
[55:10]
For the visuals. Do
[55:12]
n't know.
[55:13]
Bring some because that way, if there are
[55:15]
people who are into books and don't feel
[55:18]
comfortable holding them, or it's simply a question of
[55:21]
how much you can read.
[55:23]
Brilliant. Okay, are we all right?
[55:26]
Yes. Does
[55:27]
everyone feel okay? Brilliant. Um, very
[55:29]
good. Anyway, we're in the
[55:31]
last 9 minutes of the meeting. Do
[55:32]
we have any new matters we
[55:34]
would like to discuss or present?
[55:37]
Um, I do. Um, as Kristy mentioned
[55:43]
earlier in this meeting, you had
[55:46]
been at the HRIC. You had been at the
[55:52]
HRIC earlier this week. Let's
[55:54]
see. Last night was a weekly live stream.
[55:59]
Um, okay. And so obviously
[56:03]
we had shared information about
[56:05]
the library and then, um, in their agenda
[56:07]
they specifically talked about several
[56:09]
different events. One of the events they were
[56:13]
talking about is that they have an
[56:16]
event on October 14th. So it's the
[56:20]
same week as our event. I
[56:21]
'm not sure. Do you have any
[56:23]
information?
[56:24]
Oh no, I don't have it.
[56:25]
Um, I'm just going to look at this, honey, and I'll walk it over
[56:28]
. Um, so
[56:30]
they have an upcoming event. It's
[56:32]
called Celebration. It will take place,
[56:35]
um, in the Doraville library. If
[56:39]
you can take it to the library. Um, it's
[56:42]
in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
[56:48]
Uh, the recognition event that
[56:51]
begins on September 15 and lasts for a
[56:54]
month, um, and is in honor of the
[56:57]
contributions of Latinos, um, uh,
[57:00]
to the United States. Um, I encourage
[57:05]
people to take a look at the
[57:07]
comments on each receipt, because they
[57:10]
really went into detail about, um
[57:12]
, you know, like the
[57:14]
independence movements in many of the
[57:17]
Central and South American countries that
[57:19]
happened during this time, which is
[57:21]
why it happens during this time and
[57:24]
; There are striking parallels between
[57:26]
our quest for independence as the
[57:29]
United States, and there are so many
[57:30]
parallels. I really want to honor
[57:34]
everyone's contributions, right?
[57:38]
Especially from Latinos. Your event
[57:41]
will feature food. They will screen a
[57:45]
film, there will be speakers, and it will be a
[57:48]
collaborative event, just like
[57:52]
last year. There is a project that deals with
[57:58]
the experience of the Day of the Dead. It will
[58:04]
be a community-based and collaborative project
[58:06]
that will be in the library
[58:08]
throughout the month of October. Furthermore,
[58:10]
we will also highlight that during the
[58:12]
event. So people will have the
[58:13]
opportunity to participate. It will be a
[58:17]
great night, on the 14th, from 5:30 to 8:00.
[58:24]
That's what's coming. So mark your calendars
[58:28]
. Another thing I mentioned and
[58:33]
shared with them, which they also
[58:36]
shared, was about
[58:39]
suicide prevention month, which is
[58:42]
September. And we're highlighting that. I
[58:47]
just wanted to share information with
[58:49]
HRIC from a
[58:51]
disability perspective. And to share some
[58:56]
statistics related to
[59:00]
mental health in general and
[59:04]
suicide prevention. Some statistics
[59:07]
specifically indicate that 40% of
[59:10]
people with
[59:11]
intellectual and developmental disabilities have
[59:16]
concurrent mental health conditions. And people with
[59:18]
disabilities report three times more
[59:21]
suicidal thoughts compared to
[59:24]
people without disabilities. In addition,
[59:28]
adults with disabilities are
[59:30]
two and a half times more likely
[59:32]
to suffer from mental distress. Overall,
[59:36]
we wanted to highlight the coexistence of
[59:38]
these situations. So I shared
[59:41]
that with you and the team.
[59:43]
I also highlighted that here in the
[59:46]
city we have a free resource from
[59:50]
a local organization that, after
[59:53]
receiving a grant in partnership
[59:57]
with Arc of the United States and My
[1:00:00]
Healthcare, offers
[1:00:03]
free mental health first aid training
[1:00:07]
. They have been doing them
[1:00:09]
for quite some time. They are usually carried out
[1:00:11]
once a month. It's a
[1:00:12]
one-day commitment. And they have some
[1:00:18]
upcoming training sessions. There is one on
[1:00:20]
October 16th, which is a Friday,
[1:00:23]
Wednesday November 11th and Friday
[1:00:26]
December 11th. It's a
[1:00:29]
full-day training course. It's free.
[1:00:32]
We emphasize the importance of mental well-being
[1:00:34]
and supporting our community.
[1:00:36]
It is the responsibility of all of us.
[1:00:40]
I mean, something they posted today on
[1:00:42]
their own social media talking about
[1:00:44]
the importance of, you know, this would
[1:00:46]
simply impact the world as we
[1:00:48]
know it in five minutes,
[1:00:50]
I'd say, but they really pushed
[1:00:52]
that message. So, I really
[1:00:54]
appreciate its importance and just wanted to
[1:00:56]
share that resource. It's right
[1:00:57]
here in the city. Up the street from
[1:01:00]
training.
[1:01:02]
And where are they on the map?
[1:01:04]
Um, well, the training sessions are
[1:01:06]
held at Southside Park, which is
[1:01:07]
just off Center Street. Um, and
[1:01:10]
it's just up the street from here in
[1:01:12]
Danvers. One of their offices. What are
[1:01:16]
they doing? They've been doing this,
[1:01:17]
as I said, for a while now. Um, the
[1:01:19]
response has been very positive. Um,
[1:01:22]
we in the city have also had
[1:01:24]
other opportunities that have
[1:01:26]
arisen because this organization is not
[1:01:29]
the only one that does
[1:01:31]
mental health first aid, but rather, you know,
[1:01:33]
these resources that are available
[1:01:35]
to the city. But we would love to
[1:01:38]
see a collaboration from the different
[1:01:40]
health departments that have done
[1:01:41]
this. Last year, the
[1:01:44]
Danvers Police Department hosted one at
[1:01:46]
its facilities in collaboration with
[1:01:48]
the health department. And they were
[1:01:51]
trying to understand...we're not
[1:01:53]
sure, it's as important as
[1:01:56]
regular
[1:01:58]
CPR first aid training. And you know,
[1:02:00]
unfortunately it might be used
[1:02:03]
more often than CPR, since, um,
[1:02:05]
a human being gets hurt more than they
[1:02:07]
die. I just wanted to point that out. I took
[1:02:11]
the
[1:02:12]
youth mental health first aid training a couple of
[1:02:14]
years ago. It's fantastic. So yes, they do have it
[1:02:17]
organized for youth mental health
[1:02:18]
. Um, and I think Danvers Cares may have
[1:02:21]
spoken, discussed, or done
[1:02:24]
something in the past. There are...so, I think it's
[1:02:27]
very important that, you know,
[1:02:30]
organizations in general are
[1:02:32]
doing this, but I think, you know,
[1:02:35]
thinking from our perspective as
[1:02:37]
commissioner, how does that impact the
[1:02:40]
population we were looking to support, um,
[1:02:42]
all the residents of Amherst, but?
[1:02:49]
Thank you, Anne.
[1:02:50]
I have something quick.
[1:02:51]
Yes, go ahead.
[1:02:53]
Uh, this Saturday, um, the
[1:02:56]
Swampscott Disability Commission will be holding a
[1:02:58]
disability resource fair
[1:03:00]
from 2:00 to 4:00, um, in the
[1:03:02]
Swampscott Elementary School cafeteria. Um,
[1:03:07]
I posted this in the
[1:03:09]
City of Amherst Equity and Inclusion Facebook group
[1:03:11]
and originally wasn't going to be able to
[1:03:13]
make it, but the event I was supposed to
[1:03:14]
attend this Saturday was canceled, so I'm
[1:03:16]
hoping I can go. Um, but if
[1:03:19]
anyone wants detailed information,
[1:03:21]
let me know. I will share it. I'll look into it,
[1:03:24]
especially as a type of resource they
[1:03:26]
offer to the community; it could be
[1:03:29]
something to consider in the future. Although
[1:03:32]
he said it was for all peoples.
[1:03:34]
Mhm.
[1:03:34]
Very inclusive. Well, there will be many
[1:03:37]
sellers and I'm not sure, has it been
[1:03:39]
cancelled yet? I have not seen anything. I've been staying
[1:03:41]
inside, so I'm
[1:03:43]
hoping to go to
[1:03:44]
some places that are even
[1:03:46]
indoors.
[1:03:46]
Yes it's true.
[1:03:47]
because of the trips they
[1:03:49]
took, yes. So, it could be
[1:03:50]
postponed, but
[1:03:54]
thank you.
[1:03:55]
And that's what's happening,
[1:03:57]
I think it's the Disabled Resource Center that's
[1:04:00]
organizing it. I think they are the
[1:04:03]
organizers. Yes, I don't think it's
[1:04:05]
the Disability Commission.
[1:04:06]
Oh.
[1:04:07]
yes.
[1:04:07]
I hadn't realized that.
[1:04:09]
Perhaps, um,
[1:04:10]
your email address is
[1:04:11]
no longer there.
[1:04:11]
That's "sweet scoop" in MA.
[1:04:14]
Okay, so we sound like a
[1:04:17]
fish.
[1:04:17]
Yes.
[1:04:18]
He is God. Yes.
[1:04:19]
Very good.
[1:04:19]
That's great.
[1:04:21]
Yes, frog is god. The
[1:04:22]
frog is the fish.
[1:04:23]
Frog over god.
[1:04:27]
Um, also, I won't actually be able to go right
[1:04:30]
now, but I hope that at some
[1:04:31]
point I will do the advanced
[1:04:33]
community access monitor training
[1:04:35]
through the Massachusetts Office for the
[1:04:37]
Disabled. Um, and
[1:04:40]
once I can do that, I'll
[1:04:42]
share it with them.
[1:04:43]
Oh, incredible. Thank you, Kristen.
[1:04:46]
And I'm registered for the day I have to
[1:04:48]
go for a follow-up with, uh, I do
[1:04:50]
n't know what to say. But if. Yes.
[1:04:58]
Very good. So, just to reiterate,
[1:05:01]
the Celebration is on October 14th at
[1:05:03]
5:30 p.m. And the following Saturday is
[1:05:05]
the Human Library event on
[1:05:08]
October 17th starting at 10:00 a.m. right here
[1:05:10]
at the
[1:05:12]
Danvers Senior Center, at 25 Stone
[1:05:14]
Street. So, you know, don't miss it.
[1:05:19]
Um, can we have a motion to
[1:05:21]
adjourn unless someone
[1:05:22]
wants to share something else? Alright.
[1:05:25]
Motion to adjourn the session.
[1:05:27]
I second that.
[1:05:30]
Okay, everyone in favor of adjourning our
[1:05:32]
meeting, say yes.
[1:05:34]
That's all. Thank you all.
[1:05:38]
Good evening everyone. They
[1:05:39]
are much more entertaining.
[1:05:40]
Good night. A
[1:05:41]
lot of what? Our meetings?
[1:05:42]
Where? Where's the food?
[1:06:59]
Mhm.
