[3:24]
All in favor?
[3:26]
Aye. Aye. All opposed. Motion passes. Seven zero.
[3:31]
All right. Our next order of business will be a presentation
[3:33]
for our friends at Gilbert H Should and Deep.
[3:35]
So I'll invite you guys up to get started.
[4:27]
Okay. Hello everyone is Isan.
[4:31]
We wanted to say first of all
[4:33]
before we start, a big thank you to Mr.
[4:35]
Manchester and then also the National Junior Honor Society
[4:39]
children, students, because they're always at our deep
[4:43]
events that we hold helping out.
[4:46]
They even know the Easter Bunny, which is unbelievable.
[4:50]
So that is amazing.
[4:52]
And we really couldn't put on all of our events without Mr.
[4:55]
Manchester and all of his students.
[4:56]
They help us out a great deal.
[4:58]
So we wanted to say thank you before we started
[5:02]
and we made them some posters.
[5:04]
So the children are gonna hand out the posters
[5:05]
to all the students.
[5:09]
Mrs. Kern, can you maybe? There we go. Perfect.
[5:24]
Good.
[6:00]
And
[6:00]
Then I wanted to, I know it's silly,
[6:02]
but I wanted to say thank you.
[6:04]
I've got you some flowers and then I also wanted
[6:06]
to say thank you to Angela Mackey, who is
[6:09]
our deep PTA person that does it all.
[6:12]
And she is Finley Mackey's. Mommy Finn,
[6:16]
Come here.
[6:17]
Do you wanna give these to mommy? I'll give up to mommy.
[6:22]
Thank you for everything. Of course.
[6:24]
That's
[6:30]
So Mr.
[6:31]
Manchester's students put on a little presentation
[6:33]
and put together a slideshow for everyone
[6:35]
to see the collaboration between the two schools.
[6:40]
So at this point I'll invite the N Jha students on over
[6:43]
and get our presentation started.
[6:56]
Thank you for having us tonight.
[6:58]
My name is Ariana
[6:59]
and I'm one of the three members of National
[7:01]
and Junior Honor Society representing Gilbert h Hood.
[7:04]
Here to talk about our time collaborating
[7:06]
with students in the deep early education program
[7:09]
during our time as members of NJHS.
[7:12]
Participating in these events have helped me
[7:14]
as an individual, individual connect
[7:16]
with the students at deep.
[7:17]
It provides the students activities to do outside
[7:19]
of their normal school day.
[7:21]
Over the past year, we've done numerous events combined
[7:23]
with the early EDU very early education program.
[7:26]
Some of these events include their PTA sponsored end
[7:29]
of year celebration, their PT sponsored trunk or treat,
[7:32]
and the NJHS sponsored Easter acom.
[7:35]
The benefit of us working with these students allows us
[7:37]
to not only represent Gilbert h Hood Middle School,
[7:40]
but also to act as role models to this younger age group
[8:02]
A microphone.
[8:04]
Okay.
[8:05]
I'm here with Caleb
[8:09]
And What's your name?
[8:13]
Finley.
[8:15]
First I'm going to talk about the first event
[8:17]
that I participated in as a member of the NJHS.
[8:21]
The end of school year celebration held in late May,
[8:23]
sponsored by the deep PTA was the first major event
[8:26]
for new members of NJHS.
[8:28]
An amazing way to end the year there was pizza,
[8:31]
face painting, a dj, and just loads of fun.
[8:33]
It was an amazing way to connect
[8:34]
with the deep students while they were showing off their
[8:37]
dance moves and having fun outside of the classroom by,
[8:40]
by participating in this event
[8:41]
where impacting students early development stages
[8:44]
by modeling safety, responsibility and fun.
[8:47]
It was an endearing meant to get
[8:48]
to know the kids while I was learning patients.
[8:55]
Yeah. Guys,
[8:59]
Can you show off your best dance move
[9:12]
Finley,
[9:13]
Do you wanna show up your BA Best dance move?
[9:15]
Yeah, show me.
[9:21]
So good.
[9:29]
Hi, my name is Jenny and I am here with
[9:33]
Christopher Hank.
[9:37]
The second event that I will be talking about tonight was
[9:40]
the Trunk or Treat, sponsored by the deep PTA
[9:43]
many NJHS members decorated a trunk
[9:46]
with fun Halloween decorations.
[9:48]
They also handed out candy
[9:49]
and interacted with the students and their families.
[9:52]
The NJHS helpers were also dressed up in fun costumes
[9:56]
showing off their Halloween spirit.
[10:08]
Okay, I'm Ariana and I'm here with Can
[10:15]
I'll Melanie, you're gonna come
[10:19]
Question next.
[10:20]
Thank you. What are your guys' names?
[10:22]
Melanie. Emma.
[10:25]
The next event I'm going
[10:26]
to be talking about was our third event of the year,
[10:28]
taking place right before the holiday B break.
[10:31]
And personally this was one of my favorites
[10:33]
in this activity, approximately six NGHS members went down
[10:37]
to deep over two days visiting both sessions.
[10:40]
During this time we did activities like reading stories,
[10:43]
crafts, and face painting.
[10:45]
Students had a chance to have their face painted
[10:47]
however they wanted with items like butterflies, dinosaurs,
[10:51]
and even tigers being some popular choices.
[10:54]
The storybooks were holiday themed in the holiday.
[10:57]
Craft hats were kind of like this one I have here.
[11:00]
Overall, this event was lots of fun and really helped me
[11:03]
and the students socially.
[11:05]
Now let's see what they think.
[11:07]
Would you guys rather make a hat or get your face painted
[11:11]
Face?
[11:12]
Face paint. Face paint. Okay.
[11:18]
The next activity was the Easter icon,
[11:21]
which was the major community service activity
[11:23]
sponsored by NJHS.
[11:25]
At the Egg Hunt there were crafts for kids
[11:28]
to make like Easter bunny headbands and bags for their eggs.
[11:31]
There was also face painting station and bubbles.
[11:34]
Both of these were a huge hit.
[11:39]
The Easter Bunny was also there
[11:40]
taking pictures with the kids.
[11:42]
And of course there was an egg hunt
[11:43]
where all these kids could find eggs hiding
[11:45]
around our library, each with a fun prize inside, such
[11:49]
as a sticker or a temporary tattoo.
[11:52]
For those students who couldn't attend the Easter Bunny
[11:55]
visit, visited deep classrooms as well.
[12:00]
Do you like Halloween or Easter? Better?
[12:03]
Halloween, Easter.
[12:06]
And would you prefer a sticker or a temporary tattoo?
[12:11]
Tattoo. Tattoo.
[12:16]
Can I have you two guys again?
[12:19]
Thank you. The most recent event we did
[12:22]
was literacy night.
[12:23]
During this event, we first played
[12:25]
with the deep students in their
[12:26]
classroom and did some crafts.
[12:28]
Then everyone sat down on the rug to listen
[12:31]
to the mouse, read the story.
[12:32]
If you give a mouse a cookie.
[12:34]
After the story was read, we all went to,
[12:36]
with the deep students to a table
[12:38]
to help them decorate their very own cookie To eat.
[12:41]
This activity helped us and deep students socialize
[12:44]
and connect While having a good time.
[12:46]
Events like this have also helped me learn patience,
[12:49]
responsibility, and cooperation, while associ myself
[12:53]
with my fellow Gilbert h Hood,
[12:55]
national Junior Honor Society members in the deep community.
[12:59]
Do you guys like chocolate chips in your cookies or no?
[13:03]
No chocolate Chips. You like chocolate
[13:05]
Chips? Me too.
[13:06]
No, Thank you.
[13:11]
Thank you. So in conclusion, I just want to again say that
[13:16]
as the advisor of National Junior Honor Society at Gilbert H
[13:18]
Middle School, this is one
[13:20]
of my favorite groups to work with.
[13:22]
The deep program is absolutely amazing.
[13:24]
It's just a wonderful opportunity to connect with our,
[13:27]
to connect our eighth graders with our,
[13:30]
with our youngest students in the school district.
[13:32]
It's just, just an incredible thing to do.
[13:34]
It's incredible time. These students work incredibly hard on
[13:38]
planning activities, implementing activities,
[13:40]
and again, none of this could be possible without the
[13:42]
support of the Gild Hho administration.
[13:45]
I appreciate Melanie Kern for coming out this evening
[13:47]
to support, along with Tanya Laba, who
[13:51]
runs the Deep Program as a director.
[13:53]
So again, we work together
[13:55]
to make all these great projects possible.
[13:57]
The students do a wonderful job
[13:59]
and again, I love the ability, the opportunity to connect
[14:02]
with the community within our own school building.
[14:05]
So with that, I think we'll open it up
[14:07]
for any questions if there are any questions?
[14:13]
Any questions? Anyone?
[14:19]
I think, you know, we, it's kind
[14:20]
of an unconventional arrangement we have
[14:22]
with our early education program in our middle school,
[14:25]
but we always see how it brings these awesome opportunities
[14:29]
for these kids, these older kids in middle school to
[14:32]
help out down at deep
[14:34]
and you know,
[14:35]
get some experience if maybe you wanna get into education.
[14:38]
Have any of you guys thought about being educators someday?
[14:43]
When I was little
[14:49]
I wasn't really thinking about doing it in like the school
[14:51]
field, but in like teaching people how
[14:53]
to like ride horses and stuff.
[14:57]
I also did when I was younger, but not so much anymore.
[14:59]
But I do have a lot of fun hanging out and helping them.
[15:04]
I have a question. I think I have one question.
[15:06]
Do you think it's relaxing or is it tiring with the littles?
[15:14]
It is relaxing but it can be a lot of fun.
[15:18]
I think it's like a lot of fun working with 'em
[15:20]
because they're so cute and fun to play with.
[15:23]
I think it's a little both, but I have a lot
[15:24]
of fun like working with 'em
[15:26]
and trying, like doing new
[15:28]
activities that they haven't done before.
[15:31]
Good. Christopher, come here. Hey, come here.
[15:36]
Did you like when the Easter bunny came? Yeah. Yeah.
[15:40]
Were you scared at all? No. No. What about you? No. No.
[15:44]
Okay. Awesome. You say thank you to them. Thank you.
[15:48]
Thank you.
[15:54]
Alright. Anybody else? Well,
[15:57]
before we let you go, I, I, a few of us had the opportunity
[16:00]
to go to the, the ceremony
[16:02]
for the National Junior Honor Society last week.
[16:05]
And you know, you've got a bunch of new members
[16:07]
and you know, it's an incredible
[16:08]
program you've got there, Russ.
[16:09]
You know, I mean everything these kids do
[16:11]
around the school and in the community.
[16:13]
Yeah. Keep up the great work.
[16:15]
I'd like second what Michael said, having that opportunity
[16:18]
to be in the same building makes it easy
[16:21]
to just walk over there and and connect.
[16:24]
But they're gonna have the best of the both worlds.
[16:26]
'cause it's like having a big brother,
[16:28]
big sister program right in the school.
[16:29]
So it's pretty. That's amazing.
[16:33]
We appreciate them. All right.
[16:36]
Thank you guys for coming. Thank you
[16:44]
all.
[16:44]
We'll take a five minute recess.
[23:48]
Welcome back everyone.
[23:50]
Our next order of business is delegations
[23:52]
and individuals at this time, residents of Derry, parents
[23:55]
of currently enrolled dairy students
[23:56]
and employees of the district may address the school board
[23:59]
on matters that pertain only to school
[24:00]
and district business for a period of time.
[24:02]
Not to exceed three minutes per person.
[24:04]
As a reminder, the board welcomes input,
[24:06]
however questions are not entertained during the comment.
[24:09]
If you would like to speak, please come up
[24:10]
to the microphone at this time and state your name
[24:12]
and address for the record.
[24:24]
Good evening. I have to talk fast
[24:26]
'cause I didn't know I only had three minutes.
[24:28]
Anyway. My name is Patricia Dowling
[24:31]
and I am from Derry, New Hampshire.
[24:34]
And since 1964 maybe,
[24:37]
and I come here tonight to talk to you
[24:40]
actually about the adult education program.
[24:43]
This past week I've had two encounters, one at Shaw's
[24:48]
and one at church with two people asking me about the adult
[24:52]
education program, which I have had many classes there.
[24:56]
And if I remember the last one was a computer one
[25:00]
and I think I paid 125 or $145.
[25:04]
And I've paid for most of the classes as have other people.
[25:09]
So they're not free adult education classes.
[25:12]
There is a rumor going around that these classes are going
[25:16]
to be halted that when no longer gonna have them.
[25:20]
I want you to know that if that's true,
[25:24]
that we do have people of all ages.
[25:28]
We have citizens, senior citizens, young people,
[25:32]
we offer crafts.
[25:34]
We, last one I took was computer.
[25:36]
Before that it was finance. My daughter-in-law took Italian.
[25:41]
So it's a variety of programs.
[25:44]
I know you could save some money
[25:45]
because I know the flyers
[25:46]
that you send out are very expensive
[25:49]
and it could be some cost measures here,
[25:52]
but I'm just seeing you and talking to you.
[25:56]
I was gonna call Mrs. Willis,
[25:58]
but you know, she has a nonstop
[26:01]
caller from people all over town.
[26:03]
So I then I was gonna call Jane, who shares
[26:07]
Dairy Village membership with me,
[26:09]
and then I figured I'd just come
[26:11]
and see, come to the horse's mouth
[26:13]
and see everybody since I don't know most of you.
[26:16]
And so I have no questions except for the rumor
[26:20]
and I thank you very, very much for listening to me.
[26:25]
Thank you. Pretty
[26:30]
Time.
[26:31]
Keep going. Just
[26:36]
as a background for you young ones,
[26:40]
I was your state legislator in Concord
[26:43]
for 10 terms for 20 years.
[26:45]
And I was also on the town council
[26:47]
and I was on your budget committee for three terms.
[26:51]
And before we had this form of government
[26:54]
and I was on the first charter commission as well.
[26:57]
So I know my way around a little bit.
[27:02]
Thank you for coming up. I had not heard that rumor.
[27:14]
I am not seeing anyone else coming up to the microphone,
[27:16]
so we'll move on with the meeting.
[27:17]
However, the public comment period will remain open
[27:19]
until 7:26 PM If you wish to speak prior to that time,
[27:23]
you can approach the microphone
[27:24]
and I will recognize you with the next break in the agenda.
[27:28]
Mike, did you wanna address the adult ed piece now or
[27:32]
No? I'll, I'll wait.
[27:33]
Wait for your update. Well,
[27:34]
While you're here I'll address it.
[27:35]
So there's the rumor came my way as well.
[27:37]
Actually when I came back from vacation with my family,
[27:40]
Jane had approached me about any discussion around this
[27:43]
and we were trying to confirm it
[27:45]
and couldn't find out that information either.
[27:49]
I there, there has been no discussion about the removal
[27:52]
of adult ed, if anything that would come to this board
[27:54]
as a whole for discussion two meetings ago.
[27:58]
I know Jen, Jenna had brought up question about the,
[28:01]
the finances behind it.
[28:03]
We have a current employee that's considering whether
[28:06]
to continue or not.
[28:08]
I can't discuss that publicly.
[28:10]
So there's all those things that are kind of in the air,
[28:12]
but at no point has the discussion of ending
[28:14]
that program come from anywhere.
[28:17]
Thank You very much. Sure.
[28:20]
All right, thanks Mike. Our next order
[28:23]
of business is student member updates.
[28:24]
So I will turn it over to Anthony
[28:25]
for his Pinkerton Academy update.
[28:28]
Thank you. So I like to consider this time
[28:31]
of the school year celebration season
[28:34]
because a lot's going on
[28:36]
and I think what really kicks celebration season off is
[28:39]
prom, which is this Saturday.
[28:41]
It'll be May 16th at the Hackler gym.
[28:44]
I don't know what time,
[28:46]
but I remember when I helped plan prom last year, we,
[28:49]
we opened it up for a few hours in the late morning,
[28:51]
early afternoon so the public could go see.
[28:54]
So as the meeting goes on, I can try to find that time
[28:57]
for you, but I don't have it right now.
[28:58]
But if you're curious, you can come up to me later.
[29:00]
Hopefully I'll have it. Underclassmen awards are gonna be
[29:05]
Tuesday, May 19th.
[29:06]
I believe it's at 6:00 PM I could be wrong though.
[29:09]
CTE completers night will be Thursday, May 21st.
[29:13]
So this is for anyone that has taken part in a career
[29:16]
and technical education program
[29:18]
that has obtained their CER certificates.
[29:21]
A lot of people don't know, but you can actually get OSHA
[29:24]
certified with PANCREAT and CTE.
[29:26]
You can get a lot of other certifications
[29:29]
for whatever field you want to go to, such as cosmetology,
[29:32]
automotive, things like that.
[29:34]
Excuse me. J-R-O-T-C awards Night will be the next day,
[29:38]
May 22nd and spring instrumental concert
[29:42]
will be May 27th.
[29:43]
I was at the winter one. They're amazing.
[29:45]
They get better every time I see them.
[29:48]
And crazy for me to say this,
[29:50]
but the last day of classes for seniors will be June 1st
[29:54]
exams begin the next day, June 2nd for seniors.
[29:57]
We get them a week early.
[29:59]
Underclassmen begin theirs on June 11th, senior banquet,
[30:03]
which this year is at the DoubleTree Hotel in Manchester.
[30:06]
That'll be June 4th.
[30:08]
Senior sunset will be June 8th at 7 45.
[30:12]
I mentioned that that's a big tradition at Pinkerton,
[30:13]
where first day of the year is Senior Sunrise,
[30:16]
where we all go there at like five in the morning
[30:19]
to watch the sunrise and we end the air with the sunset.
[30:22]
The next day is senior barbecue, June 9th, 3:00 PM
[30:26]
Senior awards night, June 11th, 6:00 PM
[30:31]
and exactly one month from today will be graduation
[30:34]
June 12th, 6:00 PM Memorial Field.
[30:37]
If you want to go, I recommend getting there at least two
[30:40]
hours early if you want something resembling a good spot.
[30:44]
Otherwise, you may have to park at Shaw's and walk.
[30:47]
But yeah, that, that concludes my final update.
[30:52]
This is the last meeting you'll be coming to Anthony. It
[30:54]
Is.
[30:55]
'cause I won't be able to make the next one.
[30:56]
And I just wanna say it's been three years.
[30:59]
I've learned a lot up here.
[31:01]
I've had a great time getting to know three years worth
[31:04]
of board members and administrators
[31:07]
and it's really been a fun experience.
[31:09]
So thank you all for being open to me, for talking
[31:12]
to me about all sorts
[31:14]
of stuff related to the school district.
[31:15]
I I did learn a lot and I'll carry it
[31:18]
with me wherever I may go. So thank you,
[31:21]
Congrat.
[31:22]
Congratulations.
[31:29]
Are you feeling excited or nostalgic at this point?
[31:34]
Well, when I was actually writing this update
[31:37]
and I wrote graduation one month from today,
[31:40]
that's kind of when it hit.
[31:43]
It's a little of both. Like right now we're putting together
[31:46]
the senior slideshow, which is presented at Senior banquet.
[31:50]
All the students get to submit pictures from all four years.
[31:52]
So I've been trying to figure out
[31:55]
what my submissions are gonna be.
[31:57]
Class office puts it together so we have the full pool
[32:00]
that everyone submits.
[32:01]
So that's been interesting to just see how far
[32:04]
everyone I've known some of them
[32:05]
since kindergarten have come.
[32:07]
It's, it's been a little both.
[32:10]
You have your plans land up for next year?
[32:13]
Yeah, a lot
[32:14]
of people have been asking me over the last few school board
[32:16]
meetings, but it's gonna be st a's majoring in poli sci.
[32:20]
I'm gonna do a minor, but I don't know what yet.
[32:23]
End goal is law school. So
[32:26]
Congratulations to you and good luck.
[32:28]
Thank you Anthony.
[32:29]
I, I, I've only known you a short time,
[32:31]
but I, for, in my previous district in Hopton,
[32:35]
I had two student reps for three years.
[32:38]
And I'll say the same thing I said to them, to you,
[32:41]
that's a lot of time that I'm not sure a lot
[32:43]
of your peers understand.
[32:45]
I mean, every other Tuesday for three years
[32:47]
to show up and hang out with adults.
[32:50]
It's pretty impressive. And it shows some dedication
[32:52]
and commitment and it's not always fun here
[32:54]
and it's not always exciting.
[32:56]
But as you dive into this field,
[32:59]
I think this can definitely bring you some experience.
[33:02]
I'm sure you'll be able to share stories at school
[33:04]
that most others won't share at every
[33:06]
other Tuesday night board meeting.
[33:07]
So, nice job. Way to stick out.
[33:09]
When do we hear about the next candidate? Do you know?
[33:11]
I'm, this is new for me. I don't know.
[33:16]
Perfect update. Thank you
[33:22]
For any dedication, commitment, and just shift
[33:25]
because it wasn't for you.
[33:30]
Thank you. All right, we will move on to our next order
[33:35]
of business, which is deliberations.
[33:37]
We have two items tonight, so I will turn it over to Mike
[33:39]
to speak to the school board meeting
[33:41]
schedule for the upcoming year.
[33:42]
Yeah, so it's the first calendar.
[33:44]
I, I mean, last year I drafted it
[33:45]
with Joe without really knowing our
[33:47]
world and what we're living in.
[33:49]
So this year I, I've come with a few recommendations.
[33:53]
Obviously I'm supporting no July meetings.
[33:56]
That's something that I think is a good break for all of us.
[33:59]
Stepping back into, in August,
[34:00]
we rotated one of the meetings.
[34:02]
Instead of having one right after the delivery,
[34:03]
we backed it up to give everyone a week in between.
[34:06]
So just kind of space them out a little bit more calculated.
[34:09]
Any questions certainly can move forward,
[34:11]
but I, it's my recommendation.
[34:13]
So with that, I I would move it forward for recommendation
[34:16]
or com comments or questions.
[34:18]
Yeah, I, I appreciate some
[34:20]
of the adjustments that you're making here.
[34:21]
I think everybody will appreciate the break in July.
[34:24]
I will note the state DOE rules call for boards
[34:26]
to meet at least once every two months.
[34:28]
So we're, you know, right within that window there.
[34:32]
I like the second December meeting.
[34:34]
I, I know it's a tough time.
[34:35]
We get close to the holidays, people get busy,
[34:37]
but you know, that's a busy time of year
[34:38]
with the run up to the budget.
[34:40]
So to not have that month off between, you know,
[34:44]
our last meeting before the public hearing,
[34:46]
I think will be a good thing.
[34:50]
But other than that I also like creating a little bit
[34:52]
of space between deliberative and the next meeting
[34:54]
and not, you know, coming back during the very next Tuesday,
[34:57]
I, I felt there was a little bit
[34:58]
of a time crunch there with fiscal advisory.
[35:00]
Again, it was my first go around.
[35:01]
I'd rather have the meetings booked
[35:02]
and us cancel rather than having to schedule extra ones.
[35:05]
So this has us booked throughout the season all the way
[35:09]
through the reorganization of whatever we do.
[35:11]
Alright, any questions, comments from the board?
[35:15]
All right, so I would accept a motion
[35:17]
to accept the school board meeting schedule for 20 26, 27.
[35:22]
So moved First by Jamie second. Second by Jenna.
[35:28]
Any further discussion? Hearing none. All in favor? Aye.
[35:32]
Aye. Aye. All opposed. Motion carries seven zero.
[35:36]
The second item for tonight is approval of a contract
[35:39]
for the completion of the South Range Roof project.
[35:42]
So I'll again turn it over to Mike. Sure.
[35:44]
Can we also have Jeremy here? We're
[35:45]
Tonight.
[35:46]
Yeah, we're gonna, we're gonna, I'm gonna kick it off.
[35:47]
Jeremy's gonna take the, the meat of the,
[35:49]
the presentation so to speak.
[35:50]
But as we've been trying
[35:52]
to coordinate this throughout the start of the school year,
[35:55]
we really started to, once you started
[35:58]
to open up the projects from the facade to the windows
[36:01]
to the roof, it really became calculated and coordinated.
[36:06]
And we're finally moving into the, we,
[36:08]
the feel good about it stage.
[36:10]
This is the last quote, unquote hurdle
[36:11]
for everything to be a go.
[36:14]
The bids came in, that's why we had a facility,
[36:16]
facilities meeting yesterday to go over the bids.
[36:19]
Jeremy's gonna go over and articulate
[36:20]
the recommendation to the board.
[36:22]
So Jeremy,
[36:26]
So we're recommending, well first of all, we went out
[36:29]
to five different bidders with ARM consulting.
[36:33]
Two bidders came to the walkthrough,
[36:35]
so we ended up getting two numbers at the end of the day.
[36:38]
North Star Roofing came in as the low bidder
[36:42]
at about $334,000 less than Tech.
[36:46]
Tech Roofing is, was has been the lowest bidder in all
[36:49]
of our other roof projects.
[36:50]
So it was a bit of a surprise.
[36:51]
But North Star Roofing is highly recommended
[36:55]
by Arm consulting as a qualified bidder as well.
[36:59]
As you can see, it's in the original bond we did
[37:03]
1.6 million for the new roof.
[37:06]
Over time, that has changed because the scope has changed.
[37:10]
The scope has gotten a little bit bigger in some areas
[37:12]
and smaller in some other areas.
[37:15]
Due to the structural integration,
[37:17]
it became a little bit larger
[37:19]
because originally when we were looking at the HVAC project,
[37:23]
we were only concerned about the structural areas around
[37:26]
the HVAC equipment to satisfy the code requirements
[37:30]
because we're doing the new roof
[37:32]
and we're, we're going through this effort, it makes sense
[37:34]
to attack those other structure
[37:38]
issues now while the roof is open rather than do it again
[37:41]
for potentially a lot more money.
[37:43]
So that increased the cost and also the timeline
[37:48]
because there is asbestos in the roof and
[37:50]
because we're gonna have to have roofers there
[37:52]
for the whole project, it, it adds a lot to it.
[37:55]
We're gonna have to have roofers there
[37:57]
to temporarily close up the building every single day rather
[37:59]
than a normal roofing project where they would come in,
[38:02]
install the roof and go home.
[38:04]
This is, it's gonna be a long summer.
[38:06]
So we anticipate going in two phases as opposed
[38:10]
to the facade portion that will be done this summer.
[38:14]
But because of the nature of how we have to do it
[38:18]
between opening up the classrooms, closing 'em up,
[38:21]
it makes more sense to do it over the summer and next summer
[38:27]
because the facade project came in so much lower
[38:30]
and the window project is part of that facade project,
[38:33]
we were able to, there's a $3.2 million
[38:38]
savings there that we have.
[38:39]
So the overage for the roof is well within the budget.
[38:43]
So any questions?
[38:47]
So as we discussed at finance, the reason, you know, not
[38:50]
to go into the full fi excuse me, the,
[38:53]
the full facilities meeting is,
[38:55]
it's not just the simple take the roof off, put it on right,
[38:57]
because of the asbestos
[38:59]
and the decking, which is between, and the hvac.
[39:04]
We have to, it sounds crazy,
[39:05]
but you're taking it off almost in little chunks throughout
[39:08]
the summer rather than just rip off and put on.
[39:11]
That has to do with also the facade work that's going on.
[39:15]
And so while you see we saved
[39:19]
1.2 million in the brick facade
[39:21]
and 1.9 million in the window replacement,
[39:24]
this overage still puts us under budget for that project
[39:27]
as a whole roughly $830,000.
[39:30]
So even though we might be over in one,
[39:32]
we've been under in the others to, to offset,
[39:35]
And this is not starting this summer.
[39:37]
It is. Oh, it is.
[39:38]
I'm sorry, I thought you just said that.
[39:40]
It just gonna be completed. Oh, it won't
[39:41]
be complete. Got it. Sorry. It's gonna be
[39:42]
A two phase, two summer project. Got it.
[39:45]
When you say that roof won't be completed,
[39:47]
that's just, that's
[39:49]
A section of roof that they will be doing this summer?
[39:51]
Will be completed this summer? Yes.
[39:53]
We will have a roof for school next year. Yeah.
[39:56]
Okay. So when you're removing the sections
[39:59]
of this roof, are you removing the asbestos also?
[40:02]
Or are we covering asbestos?
[40:05]
A lot of it will be covered, but areas where we remove,
[40:08]
it's going it where we remove decking that will be abated.
[40:13]
And, and what would be the life of this new roof?
[40:16]
Like how, how many years it projected for it?
[40:19]
It's a 20 year warranty. Okay.
[40:23]
Have we ever used this company before? North Star?
[40:27]
We have not, but we hired ARM Consulting
[40:32]
and they go to roofers who they've worked for in the past
[40:35]
and have the capacity
[40:36]
to get something like this completed in
[40:38]
the timeframe that we need it.
[40:40]
So, and that went
[40:43]
for all five bidders that they invited
[40:47]
And the opinion from ARM was
[40:49]
that they were a good fit for this project.
[40:51]
Yep, yep.
[40:54]
And we had talked about actually,
[40:55]
because the other bidder was the, I'll call it the, the one
[40:59]
that won the other five Five roofs. Four roofs,
[41:01]
Yeah. Five. And the,
[41:02]
And we debated that at the committee level in regards to
[41:07]
do you pay the extra $300,000 to go with the one
[41:10]
that's done the other roof or was there
[41:12]
value in saving the money?
[41:13]
And the committee had determined through the recommendations
[41:15]
of both Mark and Arm, that saving the $300 was,
[41:19]
was a lot of value for us.
[41:20]
And they felt comfortable with that,
[41:22]
which made me feel good.
[41:24]
Yeah, I think when you think about different projects,
[41:26]
like if you were doing something like controls,
[41:29]
you would want them to be universal across all the schools.
[41:31]
Whereas roofs really seem like we're
[41:34]
of a standalone thing,
[41:36]
It's not as Right.
[41:37]
And, and one good explanation from ARM two is that it's,
[41:40]
it's a two year labor warranty.
[41:41]
So we're tied to these people for two years after that.
[41:45]
The manufacturer's warranty is a,
[41:46]
that's a material warranty, so you'd be going to Carlisle,
[41:50]
whoever the manufacturer is.
[41:53]
But we decided a couple years ago when we started using arm
[41:56]
and so we don't get into this situation again of a bunch
[41:58]
of failed roofs is they'll do an inspection
[42:01]
and a roof track report for us every year.
[42:04]
So we won't get into this.
[42:05]
Oh, that's good to ask in the future. And
[42:08]
That's included in the cost, the inspection or wait,
[42:12]
Which not included in, in this?
[42:14]
No, this is separate
[42:16]
Arm.
[42:17]
Does the inspections not really install
[42:17]
Arm does the inspections, yeah.
[42:18]
As like a preventative maintenance program for us.
[42:22]
Okay. Yep,
[42:23]
That's
[42:28]
All right.
[42:29]
Did we have any further questions, comments? All right.
[42:33]
If there are no further questions,
[42:35]
I would entertain a motion to approve the contract
[42:37]
with North Star Roofing in the amount of $2,776,750
[42:41]
for the completion of the South Range Roof Project.
[42:46]
So moved First by Jamie. Second. Second by David.
[42:52]
All in favor? Aye. Aye. All opposed. Motion carries.
[42:56]
Seven zero Soft range will
[42:59]
Be very, very busy this summer.
[43:02]
So be prepared for a lot of construction
[43:07]
Traffic.
[43:08]
A lot of different trades there. A lot of stuff going on. So
[43:10]
Trailers, dumpsters, everyone in the community,
[43:13]
just be well aware.
[43:14]
Anyone that lives around there, it's going
[43:16]
to be really busy.
[43:18]
Alright Jeremy, great job coordinating this.
[43:20]
I mean that, I know we, I know we, I know,
[43:24]
I know we do this a lot to each other.
[43:25]
However, this is a massive coordination effort
[43:28]
and undertaking in it's all because of what you put in place
[43:33]
and the time and effort you spent with all these people. So
[43:35]
Coming, appreciate it.
[43:36]
I I'm starting to feel better about it.
[43:38]
Yeah, we appreciate seeing these projects get done the
[43:40]
right way knowing that, you know, this is stuff
[43:42]
that's gonna be built to last.
[43:45]
Alright, any other questions for Jeremy
[43:47]
before he gets to go home?
[43:50]
No, everybody loves a Jeremy visit.
[43:54]
Enjoy The rest of the sunshine.
[43:59]
All right. Our next order
[44:00]
of business is administration report.
[44:01]
So I'll turn it over to Jane
[44:03]
for the business administrator update.
[44:07]
Okay. So with all the work
[44:08]
that Geners Jeremy's generating,
[44:10]
our department is generating all the contracts
[44:13]
for those contracts, purchase orders.
[44:15]
So this is a really busy time for us to get all of those
[44:19]
submitted, completed.
[44:20]
We work with attorneys, we work with Primex
[44:22]
to make sure all the language is
[44:25]
correct in order to be issuing those.
[44:28]
We are also going to be opening up
[44:32]
our 26 27 portal in our financial software
[44:37]
so that schools and departments can start placing the,
[44:42]
or putting their orders in for the 26 27 school year.
[44:48]
And currently we are on a, what they call the desktop
[44:53]
software and we're going to be migrating to the cloud.
[44:56]
So we're gonna be doing a lot of training on that coming up.
[44:58]
We'd like to be with Mike coming in.
[45:02]
He's brought in a lot of really great ideas on
[45:05]
going paperless on a lot of, a lot of areas.
[45:07]
So that's what we're transitioning to and,
[45:10]
and we're really excited about that
[45:11]
and think that's gonna be a great change
[45:12]
for our department and for the district.
[45:15]
We also recently,
[45:18]
I I only received one free reduced application
[45:20]
and it was an approved one.
[45:22]
So they're, they're still coming in,
[45:23]
they're slow at this time of the year,
[45:25]
but just wanna remind families
[45:27]
that it's, there's still time.
[45:29]
If they had a change in circumstance, someone in your home,
[45:33]
change of jobs, things like that, please fill out the free
[45:36]
and reduced applications.
[45:38]
And, and since Pat's actually in the audience, I'm a newbie
[45:42]
to joining Dairy Village Rotary.
[45:44]
I just joined in July,
[45:45]
but Pat's a longstanding member, Owen,
[45:48]
who you just saw earlier.
[45:49]
Owen is also a member of Dairy Village Rotary
[45:51]
and it ties nicely with the food service
[45:54]
because there is a nonprofit, 68 hours of Hunger.
[45:57]
And the Dairy Village Rotary does many projects of
[46:01]
food collection, whether they have food
[46:04]
collection at Market Basket.
[46:05]
We recently did a district-wide food collection
[46:09]
and every week,
[46:11]
actually the two members from 68 hours of Hungary just join,
[46:15]
join the Diary Village Rotary.
[46:16]
But every week members of the Diary, village Rotary,
[46:19]
pack up the food, deliver it to the schools so
[46:23]
that kids can take a bag of food home to feed them
[46:27]
for the 68 hours until they return back on Monday.
[46:30]
So great work by everybody
[46:32]
and it's a nice tie in with our students
[46:36]
and our food service to make,
[46:37]
make sure children are still fed over the weekend.
[46:40]
So are there any questions?
[46:46]
Questions for Jane? All right, thank you Jane.
[46:50]
Next step is Mike with the superintendent's update. Yeah.
[46:53]
And Joe is gonna lead in your packet
[46:54]
as kindergarten update and we have some information
[46:56]
that we need to share and Joe's gonna do it.
[47:00]
All right. So you, in your packet,
[47:02]
there was a very small kind of a spreadsheet
[47:05]
that showed you our current kindergarten enrollment numbers,
[47:08]
just to make sure everybody's on the same page.
[47:11]
We, kindergarten is not compulsory in the state
[47:13]
of New Hampshire, so you don't need to send
[47:15]
your children to kindergarten.
[47:16]
So, and it is typically where most
[47:18]
of our children enter the dairy school district,
[47:21]
aside from deep, the vast majority
[47:23]
of our kids enter the district at kindergarten.
[47:25]
So it can be a bit of a challenging thing to predict year
[47:29]
to year how many kids are gonna come in
[47:31]
and which schools they're gonna be in.
[47:33]
So when we kind of established our positions
[47:37]
and projections this year,
[47:39]
we were projecting about the same number
[47:40]
of kindergartens this year, kindergartners this year, sorry,
[47:44]
next year that we currently have.
[47:45]
So we didn't change the number of positions
[47:47]
or the locations of those positions.
[47:49]
So there are 17 kindergarten classrooms currently.
[47:52]
That's what we have budgeted for next year.
[47:55]
Just a few weeks ago, we met with principals,
[47:58]
the elementary principals, Mike and I,
[47:59]
and we looked at our current enrollment trends
[48:01]
and we're noticing that East Dairy was already
[48:06]
at overflow status.
[48:08]
And we had a couple other schools
[48:10]
that had lots of spaces still.
[48:12]
So we moved one position
[48:14]
from Grinnell Elementary School over to East Derry.
[48:17]
And that kind of tracks a little bit from this year.
[48:19]
East RY is actually overflowed.
[48:21]
There, there are a handful of students from the East Derry
[48:25]
part of town that go in overflow status to Barca.
[48:28]
So we made that decision right now that solves that problem.
[48:33]
And, and we're, we're crossing our fingers that,
[48:36]
that this will continue,
[48:37]
this trend will kind of work itself out.
[48:39]
We have kindergarten orientation on Friday,
[48:41]
this, this coming Friday.
[48:42]
So it was really important that we made this decision
[48:45]
sooner than later so that those families and,
[48:48]
and kids who are registered for kindergarten would know
[48:51]
what school they were going to prior
[48:52]
to kindergarten orientation.
[48:54]
Our goal is to have zero students in overflow.
[48:58]
That's really what we'd like to do.
[49:00]
But it is challenging because of the, what I said
[49:03]
before is that you never know where they're gonna pop up.
[49:06]
You know, a few years ago Barca had six
[49:09]
kindergarten classrooms.
[49:10]
This year they have five and they're not full.
[49:13]
And next year, you know, so,
[49:14]
so each year it can change a little bit.
[49:18]
Any questions about kindergarten enrollment?
[49:20]
Anything I missed? I know I
[49:22]
have one more thing to say actually.
[49:23]
I wanted to make sure I got it.
[49:25]
We're gonna continue to watch the numbers as time goes on.
[49:30]
You know, we've gone back, Jane and, and,
[49:32]
and I have had this conversation for years now about trying
[49:35]
to make predictions based on past experience.
[49:38]
We kind of entered into a new era
[49:41]
of student enrollment in the state of New Hampshire.
[49:43]
There are a lot of moving pieces, which lead us to believe
[49:46]
that the previous 20 years
[49:48]
of enrollment history are not necessarily gonna accurately
[49:51]
predict the next 20 years of enrollment history.
[49:55]
So we are doing our very best,
[49:56]
our principals update the spreadsheet on a pretty,
[49:59]
almost a daily basis.
[50:00]
They coordinate with Kathleen.
[50:02]
We're trying to make sure that we get
[50:03]
the word out to families.
[50:04]
Hopefully anybody who's watching today who has not
[50:07]
yet registered their child for kindergarten, please, please,
[50:09]
please, please go register your children for kindergarten.
[50:12]
It's not too late, but the sooner we get you registered,
[50:15]
the sooner we can get you into the right school.
[50:17]
And we'd absolutely love every every child
[50:20]
to have an opportunity to come out
[50:21]
to the orientation on Friday.
[50:24]
Now I'll stop again and see if you have questions.
[50:27]
Any questions about kindergarten enrollment?
[50:30]
Are we, I, if remember correctly last year,
[50:33]
were we talking about going to the, the preschools
[50:37]
or going to the childcare centers to speak
[50:40]
to people to try to get them?
[50:42]
I I have like a vague recollection of us talking about doing
[50:45]
that, but I don't know if we
[50:47]
Yeah, I, I believe we have sent out some information.
[50:51]
I'll con I'll confirm and double check.
[50:52]
I know we did last year where we tried
[50:54]
to send information out more about like the school district
[50:58]
meetings and elections and things like that
[51:00]
because, you know, for people
[51:02]
that may have their first child going to school,
[51:04]
they may not be tapped into these meetings
[51:07]
and know about everything going on.
[51:08]
But I think historically we have sent out some flyers.
[51:12]
I can check on that, make sure
[51:14]
It seems like a one of the easiest routes to try and yeah,
[51:18]
I believe we might have posted some stuff on social media
[51:20]
as well, but I'll double check with Clifton.
[51:22]
Yeah.
[51:24]
Okay. I will say
[51:26]
with the last time we did an enrollment forecast, I know we,
[51:29]
you and I talked a lot about this going back
[51:32]
to when it was done, is that it did kind of show
[51:35]
enrollment going up at Barca and East Area
[51:37]
and enrollment going down at Grinnell and South Range.
[51:40]
And it looks like we're kind of seeing that.
[51:43]
Yeah, yeah. And Mark is an interesting one.
[51:46]
You know, enrollment was down this year.
[51:48]
It was much lower than we thought it would be,
[51:50]
but next year right now it's trending
[51:52]
to be back up higher again.
[51:54]
So yeah, it is difficult to predict.
[51:56]
You know, what we, what we will do is we will come back
[52:00]
to the board and kind of keep you guys updated.
[52:04]
You know, what Mike and I had talked about is,
[52:05]
is there is a potential, if, if there is a, a massive influx
[52:10]
of students enrolling in the, you know, June, July,
[52:14]
we may need to add another kindergarten position.
[52:16]
I think we have done that. I know we have done
[52:18]
that in the past when it has called for it
[52:21]
right now we're trying to make the most out
[52:23]
of the resources that we have.
[52:24]
And again, if, if everything lines up perfectly,
[52:27]
we have still many, many seats open for kindergarten.
[52:30]
They're just the predominantly at South Range
[52:33]
and Grinnell right now.
[52:34]
And now there are more open seats at East Area
[52:36]
because we moved one of those positions.
[52:41]
Alright, thank you. We're under
[52:44]
Babied.
[52:45]
All right, any other questions before I'm
[52:48]
kindergarten last call?
[52:49]
Alright, I'm gonna start off with
[52:52]
Staff Appreciation Week last week.
[52:55]
It was, it's always a fun week for us at our level,
[52:59]
but a a couple specifics.
[53:02]
The PTA always does a phenomenal job
[53:04]
of helping support us throughout that week.
[53:08]
Kathleen, a lot of coordination between as much people
[53:11]
as possible as we're trying to do our things.
[53:14]
PT is trying to do their things,
[53:15]
but this year we had two community businesses really,
[53:21]
really donate and step up and support.
[53:23]
So that was Rigatoni
[53:24]
and Aroma Joes did a phenomenal job of helping us.
[53:28]
So thank you to them. Please stop by
[53:30]
and buy something from them.
[53:32]
That'd be great. They, they were just,
[53:34]
they were just phenomenal.
[53:36]
Mike mentioned it earlier, but I got to spend my first
[53:40]
national junior honor society induction at Hood last week.
[53:44]
Just, I mean, I made a joke during the, during the ceremony,
[53:47]
blown away at how well spoken, as you can tell this evening
[53:51]
and confident they are.
[53:52]
I, I said that if, if I knew I was gonna have
[53:54]
to speak in front of 300
[53:55]
people, I would've skipped the event.
[53:56]
So just a great job by Russ.
[53:59]
Every time I turn around, he's somewhere here.
[54:01]
So he does a phenomenal job for, for us in a lot of ways.
[54:06]
I'd emailed the board earlier last week
[54:08]
and we had started to send out invitations,
[54:11]
but I had said that I'm gonna try
[54:13]
and bring a, a new standard
[54:14]
to the retirement celebration here in dairy.
[54:17]
It's something I launched in Hopton.
[54:18]
It's, it's just an evening to celebrate them.
[54:22]
And we're gonna have that on June 10th.
[54:25]
And what started in my first year in hop kind of was small
[54:29]
and then as people caught on,
[54:31]
more retirees came back year after year.
[54:33]
And we, and we, it grew into a larger celebration.
[54:36]
It's a good evening that families get
[54:38]
to speak about their parents
[54:39]
or maybe colleagues get
[54:41]
to speak about the years they've spent.
[54:43]
So I'm, I'm really looking forward to that. I'm excited.
[54:48]
Number four, sorry, on my list you don't need to know.
[54:51]
On my list is the capital improvement project
[54:53]
or the CIP plan
[54:55]
that we've been working on with UMass Lowell.
[54:56]
They presented last week in their capstone.
[55:00]
They did a phenomenal job.
[55:01]
Jeremy and I now have the documents in place.
[55:04]
We are going to put a little bit of our touch on them pr
[55:10]
presented to the facilities committee.
[55:12]
And then we're gonna go live in June here in a board meeting
[55:15]
and, and show you that we have projections out to 2033 now
[55:19]
with capital improvement projects in every building dollar
[55:21]
amounts anticipated timeline.
[55:24]
So it's gonna show us
[55:26]
specifically at the next meeting when we're gonna
[55:29]
have a public hearing on the first
[55:30]
withdrawals from the CIP fund.
[55:32]
You're gonna see where those, the flooring is gonna reduce
[55:35]
that and you're gonna see the
[55:37]
upgrades that we continue to move.
[55:38]
So I'm excited to, to move that forward here
[55:41]
to the board and then to the community.
[55:42]
It'll be live online. Another thing I believe I mentioned in
[55:46]
September, October-ish was something that Joe
[55:49]
and I saw earlier in the year in regards
[55:50]
to safety maps in mapping them out
[55:53]
and partnering with all of the local authorities,
[55:56]
police, fire, EMS.
[55:58]
We were told to pause at the time
[56:00]
'cause the state as a whole was gonna put out an
[56:02]
entire statewide bid.
[56:03]
And that finally went out and they chose a vendor.
[56:06]
So now we are gonna receive, don't know timelines,
[56:09]
but now all of our buildings
[56:12]
and facilities will be mapped up and be able to share.
[56:15]
We can go into more detail once it gets there,
[56:17]
but it's another avenue that in in which, you know,
[56:20]
it's grant funded that we are
[56:21]
not going to have to spend the money.
[56:23]
So looking forward to that next Friday, Dr.
[56:27]
Sandon is gonna spend some time here
[56:29]
as we begin the transition.
[56:30]
But with with Joe
[56:32]
and Danielle parody,
[56:34]
we are gonna start the five six sports conversation
[56:36]
that was mentioned as a concern at the last meeting,
[56:39]
which we were kind of already dabbling in,
[56:41]
but now we're gonna put some rubber to the road
[56:43]
and see what options we have.
[56:48]
Not sure that Tri county's folding or or transitioning.
[56:51]
That's the stuff that we're gonna try
[56:53]
and figure out those timelines
[56:54]
and what we're able to offer our
[56:56]
students at the five six level.
[56:57]
And then last, I know Mike, we have hiring, as you can tell,
[57:01]
a lot of on and a lot of off
[57:02]
that's pretty typical for the month of May.
[57:05]
The key for us, and I want to commend the, the buildings
[57:08]
and the hiring committees, they're getting ahead
[57:09]
of these candidates when they're, when they're applying
[57:11]
or interviewing, and then when they are selecting
[57:14]
candidates, we're moving forward and trying to turn them
[57:16]
around within three or four days.
[57:18]
You don't wanna be left out to dry in regards to the,
[57:21]
the hiring season, it's becoming harder
[57:24]
and harder to fill roles in our profession.
[57:26]
And one thing I've learned is if if you're ahead
[57:29]
and you're first, then you have a better opportunity
[57:31]
before other people are able to catch people.
[57:33]
So I think we're doing a good job of, of staying hiring
[57:37]
as even no more came in today.
[57:39]
But I just want to thank the, the building levels
[57:42]
for the work they're doing in, in the board in regards
[57:44]
to making sure that we able to, to lock these candidates in.
[57:49]
And then actually adult ed was on mine,
[57:50]
but since we already talked about it, you know, we're,
[57:53]
we're in the process of making sure
[57:56]
that all those discussions come forward
[57:57]
and that it doesn't turn into the rumor wire
[57:59]
and it turns into more of clearly
[58:01]
communicating what's going on.
[58:02]
So we'll move forward. And I think that's it for me.
[58:08]
Questions on anything?
[58:09]
Can I just add to Something? Sure,
[58:11]
Sure.
[58:12]
I just wanna add that all the PTAs go
[58:16]
to the local businesses and get donations.
[58:18]
So we are so fortunate in, in the community that
[58:21]
not only dairy, but London, dairy and Salem, they give
[58:25]
and give and give and we're fortunate for that.
[58:27]
So I don't want anybody to feel slighted. Yeah,
[58:29]
No, and and I would say that, that, I appreciate
[58:32]
that tho those two businesses directly
[58:35]
discounted us on things that we
[58:36]
are doing from the district office.
[58:37]
So what PTA does
[58:39]
and coordinates is, is something I haven't seen
[58:43]
in a level in quite some time.
[58:44]
I can say that in several districts I've been.
[58:46]
So thank you to everyone that's helping us out.
[58:50]
Any more questions for Mike? All right.
[58:54]
Yeah, our PTSA at West Running Brook is actually doing their
[58:57]
teacher appreciation week this week.
[59:00]
So yeah, I mean, I have to say there's never enough
[59:03]
that we can do to thank teachers for
[59:05]
how much they put into their work.
[59:07]
You know, it's one of the most important,
[59:08]
most difficult jobs out there.
[59:09]
You know, I would challenge anyone
[59:11]
to spend one day in a teacher's shoes
[59:14]
and tell me that that is not one
[59:15]
of the hardest jobs that there is.
[59:18]
But it can also be one of the most rewarding.
[59:20]
So, you know, to all of our teachers in this district,
[59:22]
you know, thank you for
[59:23]
everything that you put into your work.
[59:28]
Our next order of business is committee and liaison reports.
[59:32]
We've had one committee meeting since we last met.
[59:34]
We've already discussed the bulk of what was covered
[59:36]
with the South Range roof,
[59:38]
but I'll turn it over to David. Yeah,
[59:40]
Yeah, Michael said, and Jeremy did a great job
[59:42]
of outlining what we discussed the majority of the meeting.
[59:46]
Towards the end of the meeting, mark Bin kind
[59:49]
of gave us an update where we stand on every project
[59:52]
and compare to the whole bond number,
[59:54]
24 point whatever million.
[59:56]
So he's projecting, and he's gotta work
[59:58]
with Jane on the final numbers,
[59:59]
but we're projecting to be under budget
[1:00:01]
by about close to $2 million.
[1:00:05]
So that's, that's good news.
[1:00:06]
The one thing that we still to hash out,
[1:00:08]
and I think Michael, Mike is gonna look into
[1:00:11]
how we move forward with that surplus
[1:00:12]
and what we can do with that money
[1:00:14]
and what's acceptable under the rules of bonding.
[1:00:18]
So more to come on that.
[1:00:20]
But that was good news from that meeting.
[1:00:23]
Yeah, that, I mean, that was about it.
[1:00:24]
Jeremy pretty much covered everything,
[1:00:26]
but that was some good news on that, that we're gonna be
[1:00:29]
under budget overall.
[1:00:33]
All right. Any questions for David?
[1:00:37]
All right, we'll move on.
[1:00:38]
Our next order of business is member
[1:00:39]
updates in any other business.
[1:00:42]
I have several items for tonight.
[1:00:44]
It's been a while since we've been here.
[1:00:46]
So first, Mike quickly mentioned it,
[1:00:48]
but we had one more nomination
[1:00:49]
that didn't make it into the packet in time
[1:00:51]
to make it into the consent agenda.
[1:00:53]
So if we could take a quick vote on it,
[1:00:55]
I would take a motion to accept the following nomination.
[1:00:59]
Habiba Freeman, special Education Teacher District.
[1:01:04]
First by Jen. Second. Second by Jenna. All in favor? Aye.
[1:01:08]
All opposed. Motion carries. Seven zero. All right.
[1:01:12]
That should cover all of the Yes. Thank you for doing that.
[1:01:15]
I appreciate that very much. All of the nominations.
[1:01:19]
All right, A few things.
[1:01:21]
First, the application period
[1:01:22]
for the fiscal advisory committee is now open.
[1:01:25]
This committee is an advisory group of dairy residents.
[1:01:28]
It meets with the board each year
[1:01:29]
to provide input in the budget process.
[1:01:31]
If you're interested in getting more involved
[1:01:33]
with the school board, it's a good place to get started.
[1:01:35]
We had a full contingent of members last year,
[1:01:37]
but I believe we're aware
[1:01:38]
of at least two members now returning.
[1:01:40]
So there will be some vacancies.
[1:01:42]
Our board policy BEDH requires vacancies be announced,
[1:01:45]
each May, and appointments to be made by the end of June.
[1:01:48]
So if you're interested, the application will be going up on
[1:01:51]
the website and could be submitted to the SAU office
[1:01:53]
and those appointments will be made
[1:01:54]
at the June 23rd meeting.
[1:01:58]
We're looking as a board to set a date
[1:02:00]
for our annual goal setting session.
[1:02:02]
Mike's put the idea out there
[1:02:04]
of holding this at 5:00 PM prior to one
[1:02:05]
of the board meetings scheduled in June,
[1:02:06]
either the ninth or the 23rd.
[1:02:09]
So if everybody could take a look at their calendars
[1:02:12]
and get back to us on that date
[1:02:13]
so we could get something on the calendar.
[1:02:16]
Quick update on HB 1331.
[1:02:19]
That's the bill to enable the town council
[1:02:21]
to incorporate the school district as a department.
[1:02:24]
So the Senate election Law
[1:02:25]
and Municipal Affairs Committee held a hearing on this
[1:02:27]
bill on April 28th.
[1:02:29]
Came outta committee with a recommendation of ought to pass.
[1:02:31]
And I would expect that this bill will continue moving
[1:02:33]
along if it becomes law.
[1:02:36]
Charter Amendments could be put on the ballot as soon
[1:02:38]
as next March, either by the Town Council
[1:02:40]
or by citizen petition.
[1:02:42]
So I know Mike and I have already been discussing the
[1:02:45]
implications of this with the district council.
[1:02:47]
So this will be an ongoing topic.
[1:02:52]
Few district events to note.
[1:02:54]
First, congratulations to our young singers from Grinnell
[1:02:57]
and Westbrook, who went up to Concord
[1:02:58]
to participate in the Nhm ME'S Elementary
[1:03:00]
Honors Choir last month.
[1:03:02]
Those kids get to spend the day up in Concord, rehearsing
[1:03:05]
with a guest conductor and
[1:03:06]
other students from all around the state.
[1:03:07]
And then they put on a beautiful
[1:03:08]
performance to cap off the day.
[1:03:10]
It's also spring concert season around our schools.
[1:03:13]
So congratulations to the Bark at Chorus
[1:03:15]
who had their concert a few weeks ago.
[1:03:16]
And good luck to the rest of the chorus
[1:03:18]
and band students on their upcoming concerts.
[1:03:21]
I noted this quickly while Russ was here,
[1:03:24]
but congratulations to all the Gilbert Achu students
[1:03:26]
that were inducted into the National Junior
[1:03:28]
Honor Society last week.
[1:03:30]
The board is always happy to receive an invite
[1:03:32]
to this event, so thank you to Russ for that.
[1:03:34]
And you know, it's a real testament to the caliber
[1:03:36]
of the kids that we have here in Derry.
[1:03:38]
When you see that event, it's entirely student run.
[1:03:42]
There's a, you know, a huge group
[1:03:44]
of kids in the National Junior Honor
[1:03:46]
Society over there at Hood.
[1:03:47]
And as you could see tonight, they do quite a bit
[1:03:49]
around their school and around the community.
[1:03:53]
Finally, we may all remember the West Running Bridge
[1:03:57]
students presenting to us about their mosaic mural
[1:03:59]
project back in March.
[1:04:01]
So they had an event
[1:04:02]
to unveil the finished project last week.
[1:04:04]
The artist was in attendance. There was huge turnout from
[1:04:07]
all the families coming out to see their students work.
[1:04:09]
So if you haven't had a chance to see the completed mural,
[1:04:12]
it's, it's beautiful.
[1:04:14]
You know, it's in the space right there in the center lobby.
[1:04:17]
And I have to put all the thanks out there to our PTSA.
[1:04:20]
They did a ton of fundraising this year to make
[1:04:22]
that project happen, get all the students involved.
[1:04:25]
Every student at West this year did at least one tile
[1:04:29]
that's part of the mosaic,
[1:04:31]
and that's gonna be a part of the
[1:04:32]
school there for years to come.
[1:04:36]
So that's all I have.
[1:04:37]
I'll open it up to the rest of the board for any updates.
[1:04:45]
I just wanted to add, since we, it's already on the books
[1:04:48]
and we'll speak to it next time,
[1:04:50]
but the next charter school graduation is on June 11th
[1:04:55]
at 4:00 PM I was gonna, I mean,
[1:04:57]
I could speak at the next meeting for it,
[1:04:59]
but I figured I'd put it out there
[1:05:00]
for everybody since it's already out there.
[1:05:02]
Thanks, Jen. As usual, every year, you know, the,
[1:05:05]
the board is invited to attend the next graduation.
[1:05:08]
And if you haven't been to a next graduation,
[1:05:09]
they're a pretty cool event.
[1:05:11]
So if you have a chance to,
[1:05:13]
to make it, I would recommend it.
[1:05:17]
I just also wanted to say about the mural
[1:05:21]
that was so mind blowing.
[1:05:24]
I know they came and they did the presentation
[1:05:25]
and we got to see the small piece here.
[1:05:29]
Just a fractal of what is actually up there.
[1:05:32]
I had no idea what it was to that I was expecting,
[1:05:35]
'cause I haven't been in the building in some time.
[1:05:38]
Seeing the trees up there and seeing the leaves
[1:05:41]
and seeing the personality
[1:05:43]
that was put into every single piece.
[1:05:46]
Everything from cat paws to baseballs to musical notes.
[1:05:49]
Like everyone put a little piece
[1:05:51]
of their personality in there.
[1:05:54]
And then when they unveiled the big portion,
[1:05:57]
it was like looking at a Monet
[1:05:59]
and the further you stepped away from it,
[1:06:01]
everything kind of pieced together.
[1:06:02]
It was really moving. And to know that
[1:06:05]
there's just a little, like, you know, the term blood, sweat
[1:06:09]
and tears, but not quite as, you know, strong,
[1:06:11]
but a little bit of everybody in there.
[1:06:15]
I just kudos to all the students, everyone
[1:06:18]
that put their time into it, to the artist,
[1:06:20]
obviously the resident artist that came in to do that.
[1:06:24]
What a beautiful, beautiful piece.
[1:06:26]
And I love that it's going to be there for, for time.
[1:06:30]
And after speaking to Mr. Fox, his hopes is that hopefully
[1:06:33]
the incoming fifth graders down the line will be able
[1:06:36]
to add in some way to this
[1:06:38]
and it will just be an extension of the school.
[1:06:41]
And I just absolutely loved it. It was amazing.
[1:06:45]
Yeah. Yeah. I don't get much more than a two word answer
[1:06:48]
from my sixth grader on what goes on at school these days,
[1:06:51]
but he, he did have a lot to say about the mural.
[1:06:54]
I think, you know, the kids had a lot of fun working on it,
[1:06:57]
you know, working with the artists.
[1:06:58]
So it's a cool opportunity for everybody.
[1:07:02]
There are no other updates.
[1:07:04]
Our upcoming meeting schedule, we will meet next on Tuesday,
[1:07:07]
May 26th, followed by Tuesday, June 9th,
[1:07:09]
both at 6:30 PM here at the Municipal Center.
[1:07:13]
No non-public session tonight.
[1:07:14]
So if there is no further business,
[1:07:16]
I will take a motion to adjourn.
[1:07:17]
So moved first by Jenna. Second. Second by Jamie.
[1:07:22]
All in favor? Aye. Aye. All opposed. Motion carries.
[1:07:25]
Seven zero. Goodnight everybody.
