Welcome to Des Plaines Community Connection. I'm mayor Andrew Goczkowski, your host. In this program, we highlight accomplishments, milestones, happenings and any other good news that's happening throughout the City of Des Plains. First up, Rand Red Hots is officially the top dog. The Des Plaines staple was recently crowned the winner of WGN Radio's Chicagoland Best Hot Dog Tournament.

More than 45,000 listeners cast their votes over three weeks in the March Madness style competition, and when the final votes were tallied, Rand Red Hots came in on top. That's a pretty big honor for Des Plaines institution that's been serving up hot dogs and other favorites in the community for decades.

Congratulations to the entire Rand Red Hot team, and to all of our residents who helped put another Des Plaines favorite at the top of the bracket. Rand Red Hots isn't the only business making news, By Your Side Autism Therapy Center recently held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a new facility at 1350 East Touhy Avenue.

This new center was designed to create a friendly, welcoming environment where children can feel comfortable while working towards their therapy goals. This facility includes dedicated therapy rooms for structured learning, open place spaces for motor development and quiet areas where children can take sensory breaks. It's another great addition to our community. Welcome to Des Plaines By Your Side.

Football Fridays at Maine West are getting a new look. The Main West Warriors recently renovated their football field, and the new blue turf puts one of the school's signature colors right there on the field.

Colorful football fields have become something of a tradition at the college level, with Boise State University famously making its blue turf a part of its identity. Now, Maine must has its own version right here in Des Plaines. We're looking forward to seeing the Warriors take the field this season. That's it for this month's Community Connection.
