[5:06] I'm here tonight speaking on behalf of the modernized an entire tune to urge

[5:10] your approval of the contract at the White Bear Lake YMCA without we can hold

[5:15] our practices and meet there next year I've been immersed in seventh grade and

[5:19] I love the coaches and girls a struggle for being among 17 is the practice

[5:25] location and the practice times if you practice that balloon pool which is

[5:28] about a 25-minute bus ride you try to practice I leave my house about 6:15 to

[5:36] carpool and arrive at the high school for the bus to leave at 6:45 we arrive

[5:41] at Oakland at 7:15 and practice until 9:15 after practice we pull warm clothes

[5:46] over what swimsuits we need to be out of the pool area with an advisor next pub

[5:51] at the end of practice because we don't have enough time to shower then we

[5:55] quickly get back on the bus to ride back to the high school after we meet our

[6:00] carpool and we usually arrive home about ten then we need to shower and eat

[6:05] something studying and get ready for fast I usually get to bed around 11:00

[6:08] p.m. and asked to come to the team over the past year I know the girls the

[6:14] school bird has been morgana sleep study I know that the girls don't get enough

[6:18] sleep during the summer season if you weren't able to practice at the YMCA

[6:22] pool the commute I would be dramatically reduced even if the practice times were

[6:26] similar the commute time for the team would be so much less due to closer

[6:30] location we wouldn't either practice bus since the YMCA is so much

[6:34] high school I know I would be a varsity I can concentrate better in my classes

[6:39] we could also perform physically and mentally better at school as put the

[6:43] other teammates thinking for a consideration of our request thank you

[6:52] thank you madam chairperson school board members and dr. Larson my name is Josiah

[6:57] and I'm excited to be a captain for Miami Vice and and dive deeper

[7:01] initiative I'm seriously wicked as a seventh grader I'm also a sophomore at

[7:06] Waianae high school for my Derrick recipe on the swim team is connected

[7:11] with the other girls and seeing how they grow throughout the services in this

[7:14] past fall and mr. Christiansen English class viewers had to do a persuasive

[7:18] essay I wrote about the need for a pool that better makes me lead involve our

[7:22] swimmers I agree with Gators in the effort to location for our seniors I

[7:29] also research the process of having did you realize that our 35 to schools

[7:35] not having sidewalks this means that even that practice exam is five bucks

[7:40] until you consummate before each meet the summers practice three practice

[7:44] starts that's rather than warm-up we never get to practice relay starts other

[7:48] than when you are currently participating listen to me this is a

[7:52] huge disadvantage for us hey if our team was able to practice who single - sorry

[7:57] max I know it can be even more competitive a great start continue off

[8:34] captain of the Montana girls swim and dive for the 2018 season I may be

[8:38] captain next year but I will also be senior this comes with the

[8:41] responsibility to leave the school and more specifically my swim family with a

[8:45] better community and environment for classes to come well unfortunately there

[8:49] are financial issues were looking at to prove the facility for the girls swim

[8:53] and dive team which should not be forgotten is the safety of these student

[8:56] athletes who located so far away from high school puts unnecessary

[9:01] responsibilities on classmen were often expected to drive

[9:05] younger someday younger swimmers to and from not only the high schools but also

[9:09] to the pool our team only has a practice bus for 10 out of the 15 weeks of the

[9:14] swim season for those remaining five weeks of our class you know families

[9:17] must provide this transportation to and from the goal the practices are late and

[9:22] Ed well after sundown at the end of our fall season in November it is both dark

[9:27] when we arrived and when we leave the pool for practice furthermore we often

[9:30] see deer and other animals on County roads located around Oakland junior high

[9:34] with only months or maybe a year of driving experience and younger soldiers

[9:38] in the car my first concern is their safety I believe this should be the top

[9:43] concern to breed as well this next season there are 84 upperclassman girls

[9:47] were old enough to drive I genuinely think it is dangerous to drive so far

[9:51] back and forth through practices but responsible for my fellow athletes I'm

[9:55] extremely exhausted after a practice in addition to a long day of classes and

[9:59] studying if we could practice at a closer location I know girls would get

[10:03] home earlier and more safely the roads near the YMCA are not as remote they're

[10:08] far better lit with more traffic regulations I hope you consider every

[10:11] factor when making this decision that greatly impacts a group of your student

[10:14] athletes thank you very much

[10:38] I know that thank you for giving me a moment to speak with you on behalf of

[10:44] the girls swimming and diving team my name is Mike Goldman and I've worked for

[10:49] media school district as a coach and I want to discuss several reasons why it

[10:55] makes sense to move our practices slowly to the white bear YMCA and first of all

[11:00] was mentioned the lack of starting blocks not only this is too shallow to

[11:07] have starting blocks but another issue that we have is we can't even do starts

[11:12] off with the death without blocks because it's three and a half feet deep

[11:16] that needs to be startled feet deep before that so occurred so we can't even

[11:20] simulate that part of it secondly most other teams have the opportunity to

[11:26] start multiple times a week and we only have a few opportunities during the

[11:30] season to do that and it's very limited and there are a lot of safety aspects in

[11:36] regards to starts if you go too deep there is a possibility summit but at the

[11:41] bottom of acceptor human is water that's five six feet deep so we don't get the

[11:45] opportunity to work on those things and secondly the thing that a lot of people

[11:48] don't think about it relay students you have an incoming

[11:51] swimmer that the outgoing swimwear hasn't had an opportunity to practice

[11:55] starts there is always a possibility that they could act

[12:00] so we don't get those opportunities like other schools spectively

[12:06] when we look at swimming events at the high school level a double-date 11

[12:11] swimming events are conservative sprint events and we never get the opportunity

[12:15] to speed which makes speed work effectively made you starts off watch

[12:20] these threads like blocks where you're going to get a higher speed so that's

[12:25] something that we lacked in that something that would be very beneficial

[12:28] for this program in regards to taking it to the next level

[12:31] lastly I mentioned the pool is very shallow one issue we deal with also with

[12:36] taller an individual sis of because it's only three and a half feet deep it makes

[12:40] it a lot more difficult to do turns over turn flip shirts and a new style turn

[12:45] that they do in the individual medley a bit called a box turn where the

[12:49] individual opens up a little bit more on their turn and there is much greater

[12:52] possibility of getting bottoming but we tend to observe is these swimmers

[12:57] sometimes are inhibited with their currency competition and as fast as they

[13:05] the second thing I want to address is issue with the dining facility down that

[13:09] hopefully the middle school going into the season we were you know pretty much

[13:16] aware that the diet important needed to be refurbished it is up losing most of

[13:21] the abrasive surface on it and the retaining bolts are coming loose but we

[13:26] just recently found out also that the pool is actually not deep enough to meet

[13:30] high school safety guidelines and that's a big issue for us the third thing I

[13:39] want address is some of the benefits of moving to a facility like the White Bear

[13:44] YMCA first of all it's a much bigger

[13:52] yeah okay well I just want to say say that's one of the most important things

[13:58] about moving to this only way when I see a we can call that a facility at our

[14:02] home it would be a base for us we'd be able to host meet sir versus having the

[14:07] host meets at other facilities or even at the opposing teams facilities so I'm

[14:11] one thank you for your consideration of this matter

[15:22] the majority but also we need to respect the voice of minority and they also go a

[15:29] long ways in teaching their children to like democracy thank you

[17:50] this body and other school boards how to get around the citizen and how to shut

[17:55] down public comments you don't want to hear the things that we're here to
