[6:42] youth city council. >> So, this is unfortunately our last

[6:47] meeting because our next two meetings land on h um on holidays. So, we will be

[6:54] at home celebrating with our families and not here because holidays. Um, so I

[7:01] just this will probably be my last time on the council just because I'm getting

[7:04] so busy with school and stuff, but um I did really enjoy this year. Um, I know

[7:09] it we didn't do like too terribly many things, but with the time that we did

[7:13] have here and doing stuff, I feel like we did do quite a bit and that I'm just

[7:17] so thankful for this opportunity and being able to be here today and talk to

[7:22] the council and be here with these lovely ladies. So, I'm just so thankful

[7:26] for the opportunity. Yeah, this year has been very fun with

[7:33] the city council. We haven't done as much as the other years, but that's

[7:37] because of we've been having troubles because of the weather and other things

[7:42] that are going on. So, I've had a lot of fun. I think my favorite part was

[7:48] definitely the cow creek cleanup. We found a lot of stuff that I thought was

[7:53] kind of funny. [laughter]

[7:56] Oh, yeah. I just want to give a big thank you to everyone who has supported

[8:00] us throughout the year. It's been a really great opportunity and I'm really

[8:04] grateful for my time here on the council with all these people. Um, and I feel

[8:10] like we did a lot to help improve our community and the city council and push

[8:14] our name out there even further. And although next year it's not going to be

[8:18] the same people, I think it's just going to continue to get better and better.

[8:23] I would also like to add on to all what they said. I've had a lot of fun even

[8:28] though we haven't had much like events and stuff to do. Uh, my favorite

[8:36] part has been the Cal Creek because we've had a lot of recogni reg oh my

[8:42] gosh recognition from our community and um even though we

[8:50] didn't have um a lot of events, we still had um things to talk about and it was

[8:57] really fun to spend time with these lovely ladies as KK said. Um yeah, I'm

[9:04] just like really thankful for this year and some of my favorite parts were even

[9:09] behind the council meetings and like you know when we have to have our little

[9:12] private moments talking about stuff for the council. It's just so fun to hear

[9:15] the funny things people say and just what we come up with together. So that

[9:21] would probably have to be my favorite part. But if I were to have to pick an

[9:23] event, I would pick the little meet and greet we did. The hot dogs were really

[9:27] good and [laughter] um I it was great. I love that.

[9:34] Yeah, all the uh meetings that we've had, I've had a lot of fun, especially

[9:40] uh planning different events and stuff, we have a lot of good laughs. I've made

[9:45] a lot of good connections with different people in the community and it's helped

[9:51] me open my eyes more to different communities like inside

[9:58] our community kind of, you know. So yeah. Yeah. Stepping into our

[10:05] leadership role has opened um me up to a lot of opportunities.

[10:09] And my favorite part was definitely um the Cow Creek cleanup. I think we picked

[10:15] up not as much trash as I heard they did last year, but that's a good thing. Um I

[10:20] think it was just really fun like meeting all these people. They're very

[10:23] welcoming and I'm just really grateful. Any further comments?

[10:37] » Business item 3B. Future projects you'd like to see from the city council.

[10:42] » Um, so I know we didn't have we've had this in previous years, but um what was

[10:48] it called? The youth fair. >> Yep. I want to see that come back next

[10:51] year. I know we couldn't do it this year due to complications, but um last the

[10:55] year before la this year. So last year, um I really like that event and I was

[11:01] kind of sad when we didn't get to do it, but um I can't wait for the next council

[11:05] to hopefully be able to do it. I would love to see that back again cuz that was

[11:09] really fun and I saw a lot of people that I didn't know of and like just got

[11:14] to know more about them through that. So it was really fun. So I hope to see that

[11:18] next year. I would also like to add on um when we did the youth fair, we got to

[11:24] connect with different um small like organizations in our community that we

[11:31] didn't really know of. Um Little Hawks, I didn't I didn't know what they were,

[11:37] but I got to bond with them when we were there, and we got to have a lot of

[11:43] connections with different people. Um, I would also like to see uh the obviously

[11:52] the um cowrete cleanup. I just said it. Um and

[12:00] the unhouse drives, those are really helpful in the community. And uh this

[12:06] year since we didn't have a lot to pick up for the Cow Creek cleanup, that's a

[12:11] good thing cuz we improved. Um, yeah. I'd like to I was gonna say,

[12:17] I'd like to see um like she said um the Cow Creek cleanup again and the um

[12:24] unhouse drives. I think those did a lot of good for the community. And I think

[12:29] just next year planning more events, just getting to meet with nonprofits or

[12:35] different organizations like whether it's a meet and greet or not, just

[12:38] pushing our name further out there no matter what the event is for. I think it

[12:43] can help us connect with a lot of people in the community and I think just seeing

[12:46] more of that would be um really fun. Uh

[12:51] yeah, the Cow Creek cleanup I think we should do. It should be like an annual

[12:56] thing, you know, like every year we do a cleanup of the of Cow Creek. I would

[13:03] also like to see like

[13:08] the youth city council go to different schools because I know uh we

[13:16] we went to the eighth grade I think and talk to them and it seemed like it it

[13:21] was really fun getting to see how they reacted and stuff seeing us there. I

[13:28] think it would be nice to go to the sixth grade school, like go to the

[13:34] elementary schools and talk to the sixth graders. Also, the seventh grade would

[13:38] be a good idea. Maybe the high school and talk to leadership classes.

[13:46] I know that we have a few there.

[13:51] I'd like to add on to what she said. um going to the elementary schools and um

[13:57] like in the future going to like the other schools. It was really helpful

[14:03] going to eighth grade because um being in the eighth grade, it was kind of

[14:08] helpful because they would come up and they would ask questions about how

[14:13] things were ran and that would be like be like the next step going to the

[14:20] elementary schools because um no they can't do it that year but they can do it

[14:25] the upcoming year so they can think about their decisions and stuff and how

[14:30] they can build their confidence or they can uh encourage other people to do it

[14:36] also. >> Yeah, I definitely love those ideas of

[14:39] going to other schools. Um, another thing I just can't wait for to see next

[14:43] year is just like to see what the next council comes up with cuz I always think

[14:47] that's interesting to think see what like other people want to see and like

[14:52] the events they come up with. So, I think it would be really cool to see

[14:55] what the other council comes up with, and I hope that next year they make at

[14:59] least one more new event to add to an annual thing. That'd be really fun to

[15:03] see, and hopefully I can attend it. Uh, yeah. And whether that uh I agree

[15:09] whether that new um council does um repeat some of the things that we have

[15:17] done or the things that they come up with. I just wanted to note how

[15:21] important I think it would be going to the elementary schools specifically

[15:26] because yes the especially the sixth graders because even though they cannot

[15:30] do it that year I think giving them time would be super helpful they can take the

[15:35] time to figure out if they want to do something like this and again it's

[15:39] something to push our name out there and raise awareness about the youth city

[15:42] council and just getting others involved no matter who it is.

[15:53] » Business item 3C, how to distribute you city council applications.

[15:59] » Okay, so my I Last year what we did is another council member ended up printing

[16:06] out a bunch of flyers. And I mean like a bunch of flyers. Like everywhere I

[16:09] looked there was a flyer. Um >> they're still up. [laughter]

[16:12] » Are they? >> Yeah,

[16:14] » that's funny. Okay. Well, last year she put them like all around the school and

[16:19] again anywhere I went I saw them. So putting up flyers in schools was a

[16:23] really good idea because like when I walked up the stairs last year I would

[16:26] look at and read all the flyers. So I I think that was a good idea but to

[16:32] distribute them. Um social media was a good way to do them. Uh and just maybe

[16:38] just posting flyers again. Um not even only in schools. We can also do it in

[16:43] like places where they will allow us to put up flyers.

[16:46] » Yeah. >> Yeah. I agree. I think the main two um

[16:50] things that that I came up with uh were the same things as last year using our

[16:55] um social media just our presence on there to spread um the applications and

[17:01] the school flyers because that's how I found out about how like when the

[17:05] applications were due and all the um different information that I needed to

[17:09] know. So,

[17:13] another way that we could distribute them is um I don't know about high

[17:18] school, but we have like I'm going to say a meeting in uh the gym every

[17:25] morning. And uh we have like at least 5 to 10 minutes to talk and um I think

[17:33] that that would be a good way to distribute it to the um seventh and

[17:37] eighth grade. um is we could bring flyers and anybody that would um want to

[17:43] attend or be in the uh you city council uh they could come

[17:50] and get flyers from us. I don't know. I feel like so I know that certain clubs

[17:56] they have these they have it to where like in the mornings they get called

[18:02] down and they have they get to listen to what the club is about and what you're

[18:07] going to be doing. Maybe we could do something like that at the schools to

[18:13] get kids involved. Have some kids come down there, see what it's if they want

[18:18] to join or not. I think that would be a pretty good

[18:21] idea. Yeah, definitely. And um I know that we

[18:26] can also be a big help and just like spreading the word and like you know

[18:29] talk starting with friends and then have our friends spread it and just kind of

[18:33] start like that chain reaction of doing it. But I definitely think these are a

[18:36] bunch of great ideas. I mean just the more that people that know and with the

[18:40] more people that talk about it, I feel like we'll be get it out there. Um I

[18:44] definitely do I have some contacts with u my old elementary school so I can you

[18:49] know get some flyers to them start talking to their sixth graders about it.

[18:53] So I definitely think going to schools and we also have morning announcements

[18:58] that I can also talk to the teacher that runs those and see if she can you know

[19:02] put put our thing out there for us. So yeah those were a bunch of good ideas.

[19:09] uh at the eighth grade. I know we do broadcasting uh in the drama department.

[19:14] Um it's kind of weird saying it because I'm in it, but um uh we do broadcasting

[19:21] every week. Uh it goes between the fifth and 7th um hour, but you guys didn't

[19:27] need to know that, but here we are saying it. Um but we broadcast and every

[19:33] Friday it's uh sent out to all the teachers. we watch it and uh maybe we

[19:39] could um I could ask my drama teacher if we can put um a clip in there um saying

[19:45] if you want to join the Houston council then talk to Miss Norris or whatever.

[19:52] » That's definitely a great idea. I love that. Um I just love how we do have

[19:57] these opportunities at our school to, you know, get them out there and stuff.

[20:32] Um, it's it seems like it's hard, but it's it's actually more fun than like

[20:45] to it. So, >> I know it's really nerve-wracking the

[20:48] first year, like the first meeting that you have when you just go and introduce

[20:54] yourself to the whole council. uh like in a private meeting. I know

[21:00] that's really nerve-wracking for a lot of people. I I have really bad anxiety

[21:07] about talking to people. So, getting do that, it helped me a lot overcome public

[21:14] speaking and talking to others.

[21:19] » Sorry, were you about to say something? >> Oh, um yeah. I just wanted to say that

[21:24] since even though we might not have any upcoming events, just the opportunity is

[21:28] so great and like she said, I know my first meeting I had clammy hands. I was

[21:32] sweating. You can see [laughter] it in my face. I was very scared, but it's a

[21:36] great speaking opportunity and it's just gave me a lot of confidence when I'm

[21:40] speaking to people or groups. So, it's just a great way to get involved. So, if

[21:45] you're in the at rooms, like they said, you should definitely sign up.

[21:49] Yeah, the first meeting is always the worst, but after that it's just

[21:53] good from there. I don't know how else to explain it. Um, [clears throat] yeah,

[21:57] this is a really >> how to swim.

[22:00] » This was a really good opportunity to improve public speaking and like if you

[22:04] have a fear of speaking, which I say this almost every meeting, but I didn't.

[22:08] So, I didn't really have that problem. I I almost talk too much sometimes, but

[22:13] it's okay. At least I have something to say. But, um, it definitely helps a lot.

[22:17] And even like I'll go watch back to my very first meeting ever and I laugh at

[22:23] myself, but after that it I can see how much I've improved from that first

[22:27] meeting. So sign up. [laughter]

[24:50] Kier, which is a festival that we go to every year. And we just do a bunch of

[24:55] different songs with schools. So, we're going to be singing a few songs from
