[6:21] record a unanimous vote. Uh now it is time for the president's message. I did
[6:27] put something together. Um
[6:33] now every every two years. Uh so thank you everyone for attending this
[6:38] evening's meeting. I also want to thank our staff, our mayor, Mayor Lurman, our
[6:43] chief of police, Tom Scott and the Jentown Police Department, Chief Lynch,
[6:48] who unfortunately cannot be with us this evening, and the Jentown Fire
[6:51] Department, our first responders, Foreman Rigggins and the Public Works
[6:56] Department, and our professionals, Pannon Associates, represented by Mark
[7:00] Bickerton, and all offices of Shan K. Kenny represented by Patrick Hitchens
[7:06] who also cannot be in attendance this evening.
[7:10] I want to thank our outgoing counselor for W 3, Eliza Narva. Her dedication to
[7:15] our community along with her loyalty to her constituents in Ward 3 was nothing
[7:20] short of admirable. Her thoughtful input during meetings along with her
[7:24] commitment as our liaison to the school board will no doubt be missed.
[7:29] And it is now a pleasure to welcome our newest elected official to W three, Josh
[7:33] Curtain.
[7:39] I also want to thank my colleagues on council who along with our mayor
[7:44] continue to serve in a volunteer capacity. Our community has placed
[7:47] tremendous trust in us and you have proven to be faithful stewards to the
[7:52] residents you represent. And it is my honor and privilege to work and preside
[7:56] alongside a group of dedicated volunteers that understand, respect, and
[8:00] carry out their oath of office so faithfully. Together, we have made great
[8:04] strides to meet the burden we have taken on. Um, including infrastructure
[8:09] improvements, creating open space, bringing old policies up to date,
[8:14] attracting new business, preventing light bite with new development,
[8:18] partnering with businesses, charity organizations, nonprofits, local
[8:22] churches, etc. Uh none of this could have been
[8:27] accomplished without us working together as a team and being passionate about our
[8:31] vision and future goals for Jenin Town. There have also been tough times we have
[8:36] faced together as a council and I am nothing short of impressed with the
[8:39] passion, guts, and determination you have shown through some very tough
[8:43] times. There is no shortage of political courage among the members of this
[8:46] council. I'm confident that you will take these same qualities into the
[8:51] future. The fire at SPS reminded us of the
[8:56] importance of our first responders and the need to finance them and provide
[9:00] them with the best equipment available. The 100year storms that now occur
[9:04] monthly remind us of the importance importance of our public works
[9:08] department and making sure they are equipped to meet weather challenges
[9:11] headon along with making necessary infrastructure improvements. The rising
[9:17] costs that face our school district remind us of the importance of business
[9:22] development, not only to offset taxes, but to keep our downtown thriving. The
[9:28] current situation in our country regarding immigration reminds us of the
[9:32] important importance of a fair and equitable policy on immigration while at
[9:36] the same time protect protecting our citizens.
[9:40] Inflation and rising costs on things as simple as necessities at the grocery
[9:44] store remind us of our fiscal responsibility and protecting our most
[9:48] vulnerable citizens, the elderly, those living paycheck to paycheck, those
[9:53] living below the poverty line, those with special needs, or those caring for
[9:57] people with special needs. The list goes on, but these are situations that lay
[10:02] the groundwork for the future to meet the needs of our community. Finally, I
[10:06] want to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all of our volunteer boards
[10:10] from the ZHB to the planning commission, from the rec board to the JYA and all
[10:15] who serve in a selfless volunteer capacity to make Jentown what it is and
[10:20] that it that is the best community in Pennsylvania. Thank you.
