[10:55] science adventure school as well as the entire sixth grade team and teachers at East Fairmont

[11:01] generally that this was a great experience and we have seen a lot of growth and excellence from

[11:10] these students. So we're very happy to share them with you. And what I asked for them to do is each

[11:17] them are going to tell you their name and they're going to share something fun about science

[11:22] adventure school. Brooklyn would you like to start off?

[11:32] Hello, my name is Brooklyn Barber. I'm in the sixth grade at East Fairmont Middle School.

[11:36] I'm here to tell you about my experience at science adventure school. We did some really fun things

[11:42] but also learned a lot. We learned about friction when we rock climbed. We learned about

[11:48] center of gravity in both rock climbing and BMX biking and we talked about last

[11:53] yesterday in archery. We sampled pond water and looked at it under a variety of

[12:00] microscopes. That was really cool. The food was great also. Thanks for your time.

[12:12] My name is Yisana Foo. I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to

[12:17] attend science camp, especially the counselors that worked in respect to this.

[12:21] My favorite activity was rock climbing because we were taught how to maneuver our way up the wall.

[12:28] They also used techniques that were beneficial.

[12:31] I really like the food.

[12:32] They were options for students with allergies.

[12:35] The cabins were comfortable and well maintained.

[12:37] They can't fire was very memorable, especially marshmallow roasting,

[12:42] sing-alongs, and comedy acts to keep us entertained.

[12:50] to explain and encourage others to attend scientific school.

[13:06] What I love the most about it is that they let us test our ideas and we learn things that we can learn in real world.

[13:32] Hi my name is Brooklyn Myers and one of my favorite

[13:34] things that science fenced school was probably the Sasso Olympics. We got to

[13:38] redo some of the fun activities we got to do during the week and learn things

[13:44] again. We got to meet all kinds of wonderful guides that helped us all in the way.

[13:52] The activities were awesome and they taught us a ton of things about the

[13:58] different activities, rock climbing was one of my favorites because I've always loved rock climbing

[14:06] and I've never done our trade but they taught us how to shoot, they taught us how to shoot a bow and arrow

[14:13] and how the science behind it.

[14:17] My opinion science adventure scores awesome.

[14:31] was how we had it hands-on science learning.

[14:57] My most favorite activity was the VMX bike riding course.

My most memorable thing was getting to meet a teenager named CC because she was very kind caring and she helped me through the time that I got sick while being there. It was very nice to see that to have the camp sponsored and it would be nice, very nice to sponsor again.

[18:53] and how to use your legs to push up and set it always using your arms saves energy.

[19:00] I loved to, I liked about a bike at my house, so I was excited to try a BMX biking.

[19:05] It was very interesting that they taught us to lean forward going uphill and back going downhill,

[19:13] would help keep our center of gravity balanced between the two wheels and keep us stable.

[19:19] Archery was a lot of fun. Also, they taught us to use arm guards so it wouldn't scratch

[19:26] your inner elbow and finger tabs so the arrow would shoot faster. Overall, I think that getting

[19:33] to have this experience with my friends and teachers outside the school was really fun.

[24:04] such a tremendous pleasure. So getting to bond with them at this adventure science adventure school

[24:10] was awesome and also got to know some my co-workers a little bit better, which made things

[30:49] The first page is all of the things that the public library offers to the community and some specific things that are for teachers.

[30:59] And now these are also available to like to homeschool families, general public, but some of them I think are teachers can benefit more from and I don't think they know about them.

[31:19] There's a lot of digital resources that's on this public library's website.

[31:23] All you need is a library card number, which individuals can get,

[32:33] So they're great for if you don't have a copy of the book or you need a time filler or a substitute activity real quick.

[32:42] But I love bookfix and I was so excited when I saw that it was approved and I'm like, yes, because I can't afford that myself.

[32:50] So the public library helped us out with that.

[32:52] Okay, the next page is some new things that are coming out from the West Virginia Library Commission.

[33:36] it's like a Zoom, you face time with them, or you can upload a paper you've written, and someone

[33:43] and we'll edit it and send it back to you within 24 hours.

[33:46] Now, that does mean students need to get done before the 24 hours.

[33:51] So you can't be typing it 11 o'clock at night and say I need to turn this in at 7am.

[33:57] But I think, as when I think of what I could have used in high school, that'd be a real big help

[1:06:15] Just a couple of quick things we are proud to announce that Principal Rodriguez will serve as a representative of American schools.

[1:06:22] At the West Virginia School Board Association's Winter Conference,

[1:06:25] If you will be talking about successful leadership and what it looks like and driving students

[1:06:33] and staff achievement, of course, the number one performing middle school in the state of

[1:06:38] West Virginia academically, J.N. and Mr. Morris, Principal Morris and his staff will be recognized

[1:06:44] next week in Washington DC as a national blue ribbon school, only 53 public and non-public schools

[1:06:52] throughout the entire nation.

[1:06:54] Receive this distinction only three in West Virginia

[1:06:57] and very proud because J.N. is a Title I school

[1:07:00] receiving that designation and a public school,

[1:07:03] very proud of that.

[1:07:05] A couple of things related to the maintenance department

[1:07:07] and Mr. Skarsensky, the security numbers

[1:07:10] that are reflective that we have been working with,

[1:07:13] Director McIntyre and Sheriff Rifle.

[1:07:16] The numbers have been installed on all of our buildings

[1:07:20] with the exception of Mannington Middle and Fairmont Senior High School and because of the size of those buildings.

[1:07:30] Equipment to get those on some of those windows, as well as Barnes Learning Center because we are replacing

[1:07:35] some of those windows. So, very thankful for the work of the maintenance department the last

[1:07:41] couple of weeks. They have been covering some ground to get those numbers, reflective numbers

[1:07:46] installed. We do receive visits from retired state trooper Lance from the Western Department of Education

[1:07:53] who visits our facilities and does safety checks in addition to Mr. Neal that does it for

[1:07:59] to what Director McIntyre and Sheriff Riffle do.

[1:08:03] So, very excited about that.

[1:08:05] Marion County Schools is the place to be the big-ten sheer competition.

[1:08:10] On Thursday is hosted at North Marion High School.

[1:08:13] And so that is exciting.

[1:08:15] We have three first-round playoff games hosted in Marion County on Friday night,

[1:08:20] as well as Saturday evening.

[1:08:22] So, it is that is wonderful that each of our teams will be able to share

[1:08:26] in that celebration of first-round playoffs.

[1:08:28] I do have because we are required to talk about student achievement at each board meeting to meet requirements of the State Board of Education, Mr. Dragot, as you know.

[1:08:40] I do have a little bit of data to share with you related to student achievement in grades kindergarten through eight.

[1:08:49] This is our I-Ready diagnostic information and what I like about this snapshot is you have

[1:08:57] the I-Ready benchmark from the fall of 2122 to this current fall by grade level and it is showing you how the student growth is with

[1:09:09] those cohorts of students in the areas of reading and math. This is done by grade level, not by school.

[1:09:15] notice that as we've talked about before, yellow is not bad. Yellow means that they are tested

[1:09:22] on the standards of that grade level before they finished that grade level. So looking at

[1:09:29] the trend data over the years for each grade level, you have on the back of each one of

[1:09:34] those pages for six seven and eight in our middle school. So one grade level, one grade level

[1:09:41] below yellow means that they haven't been issued that content yet and that's what

[1:09:46] they're tested up on. So we're very excited to see green, blue, and yellow. Anything

[1:09:53] below that we want to work to reduce that and you've seen that across the years

[1:09:58] in Mary and County Schools.

[1:10:02] When it's also called to your attention, Fairview Elementary School has invited you to

[1:10:07] their Veterans Day celebration at Fairview Fire Hall. This Thursday, November 9th,

[1:10:12] at 130, the RSVP information is there.

[1:10:15] We're in kind of school's directory is in your folder as well as a current copy.

[1:10:20] We've given this to you before, but the CEP to take a look at as we make these decisions

[1:10:27] in establishing the bond committee as well as future projects for that.

[1:11:43] it and work with these folks and I just, great opportunity that I wish more communities

[1:11:51] would take advantage of that, but it was a nice, sure there's numbers there.

[1:11:57] Yeah, we have 13 schools that participate alone in that grant that Terry Athe and Marlene

[1:12:02] Efall went after for the backpack program, but Ease Park is one of the schools that is supported

[1:12:09] by faith-based as well as grant donations for backpack, and I know that principal

[1:12:15] hold works with her PTO as well to provide those. But yeah, there are 13 of our schools that

[1:12:21] actively participate in sitting backpacks of food home for children in the evening as well as

[1:12:34] When you're talking about this security, if you told us before, I do not remember, did Senator

[1:12:42] mansion and there was a grant that we applied for?

[1:12:46] We made it to the first round.

[1:12:49] We did not make it further.

[1:12:50] Director McIntyre and Sheriff's Riffle Grant did make it further.
