[0:00] of council for 2022 and I apologize if I speak
[0:06] um quickly I am not a public speaker I much prefer to be behind the scenes so
[0:12] it's not something up but it's part of my role for today so
[0:15] just bear with me
[0:18] so one of the tasks I get assigned to do as part of the inaugural meetings to
[0:23] give an update on the 2022 municipal election so I'm going to start with that
[0:28] today I'll go through that report and then after that we'll do the formality
[0:32] of swearing in the newly elected council members
[0:36] so I first would like to congratulate and welcome the new Council of the Miss
[0:40] Valley of murmuran Lake as a result of the October 24th 2022 election who will
[0:45] take their oath of office momentarily I would also like to extend my gratitude
[0:50] and thanks to staff of the municipality who are instrumental in running a
[0:55] successful election without the hard work and dedication a
[0:59] successful election would not have been possible
[1:02] from the extra assistance with preparation of the voters list answering
[1:06] questions for electors to preparation and assistance on voting days they have
[1:10] been a tremendous help thank you to Jen Bennett Deputy clerk
[1:14] unfortunately she's unable to be here today because she's ill
[1:18] Kristen McConnell Administration who's sitting at the back of the room here
[1:23] Nancy Sinclair Administration so accept of the aisles of actor Ashley
[1:29] Administration who's sitting on the other side of Christian at Quebec and
[1:34] Steve Japan Treasurer who's sitting over on the other side of the room
[1:38] again thank you for all of your hard work and dedication during the election
[1:43] the 2022 elections saw the continued increase in the adoption of an online
[1:48] voting across Ontario householder cast continues to move to
[1:52] technology-based methods in 2022
[1:56] 217 Municipal governments used internet and or phone
[2:01] combined voting methods which is 42 more than the previous
[2:06] election in 2018. both by mail remain largely the same at
[2:10] 71 municipalities using this method
[2:16] foreign the percentage of voter turnout has not
[2:21] varied greatly the June provincial election hit a record low at 46 percent
[2:25] early numbers from the association of municipalities of Ontario show 36
[2:30] percent turnout across 301 of the 444 municipalities that held elections
[2:39] the total number of elect eligible electors for the municipality of
[2:43] marmoran Lake was 4844 voters of which a total of 1522
[2:50] electors voted by internet method and 272 by telephone for a total number of
[2:56] votes cast at 1794. this represents a voter turnout of 37
[3:02] percent the largest voter turnout was in the
[3:05] with the age ranges of 50 to 70 with the lowest being 20 to 40.
[3:13] the 2022 Municipal budget provided 26 500 for the municipal election the
[3:19] actual cost spent was 11 988.45 resulting in 14 511 below budget
[3:29] actual cost in 2018 totaled fifteen thousand four hundred and three dollars
[3:35] and eighteen thousand nine hundred and forty six dollars in 2014 which was a
[3:39] vote by mail some reasons for the cost savings this
[3:43] year include we saved on iPad rental fees because we utilized Council iPads
[3:48] this year whereas in a previous year we had to rent them
[3:52] um we the Hastings County clerks and treasures Association paid for candidate
[3:56] training as a whole so we weren't bearing the cost solely on our own
[4:01] we hired no election staff everything was done through Municipal staff
[4:07] joint advertising took place with member municipalities for the joint compliance
[4:11] audit committee so savings can be used for future 2026
[4:16] election expenses and a robust advertising campaign
