So the very first thing that we're going to do is I'm going to display our meeting agenda for today. You'll notice that there is not a lot on our meeting agenda. Just to approve the notes from our previous meeting on

[0:46] to our new DSHS representative, Shannon, and then I'll go ahead and review with you the

[0:55] the presentation that I'll make to the school board later this summer that I do

[1:02] annually okay so I'm unable to hook up to our can monitor right now so I'm just

[1:10] gonna turn that's our agenda that we're working on today let's go over our

[1:17] meeting norm so we assume the best we start on time what and prepare not so much

[1:23] today, but we'll get by. We bring ideas, resources, and an open mind. We have a sense of humor.

[1:31] We participate, interact, and say what we think. We display respect by treating each other as

[1:37] professionals. Disagree with respect. We manage our time. We accept our differences in opinions.

[1:43] We are inclusive. We lift each other up. And this is a safe group. So what stays in our group,

[3:31] and then we introduced Mr. Peterson, who was our DSHS representative at the time.

[3:37] And then we discussed our wellness plan.

[3:41] We said our next meeting would be after spring break but we didn't put an official day down,

[3:46] and then we had a motion to end the meeting.

[6:40] Again, my name is Shannon Monroe.

[6:41] In years, I work for the 6th Department of State Health Services

[6:45] as the public health educator for the perfect county.

[6:49] So as we call the DSHS for short,

[6:52] we offer several programs to schools,

[6:54] clinical hospitals, clinics, hospitals, and other business partners to help make community

[7:01] a history of communities.

[7:03] So some of our services that we offer, we offer, for example, for schools, we do presentations

[7:10] in these presentations.

[7:11] We do them for building resiliency, for youth, mental health, 98, which is our suicide prevention.

[7:18] And we also do programs for health and nutrition and things like that.

[7:23] And outside of schools, we work with clinics, such as the WIC,

[7:27] housing authorities, every life to do car seat events,

[7:32] providing car seats for low income families.

[7:35] We also do safe sleep for mothers and caregivers

[7:38] to make sure that our infants are not suffering from seeds.

[7:43] We also, again, those same mental health resources,

[7:48] we give those to adults as well.

[7:49] We can train staff.

[7:50] We can also do teams and young adults. All of our prison stages are geared to where we can modify them for any audience.

[8:27] presentation that is the Shaq annual report that the school board will receive during their

[8:35] June meeting and as we're working through this and if you see something that isn't correct because

[8:44] this is adapted from a previous report, please just let me know and we'll, you know, we'll

[8:51] get that fixed right away.

[8:56] Most of this information stays the same from year to year.

[9:01] It's just there is a slide a little bit later that talks about in particular world.

[9:07] We have done as a chat committee this year and so most of this stays the same because it's

[9:14] not it hasn't changed all right so our school health advisory council is is

[9:23] required by every independent school district it must consist of a majority

[9:28] of members be parents who are not employed by the school district we

[9:33] annually appoint we are annually appointed by the board of trustees our

[9:41] Our individuals represent segments of the community in the school district and provide advice

[9:46] on the district coordinated health or CSH programming and its impact on student health

[9:53] and learning.

[9:54] So this does go into PE programs or fitness programs in other areas where students might

[10:01] get PE credit like in band.

[10:06] Our coordinated school health council is that all Texas schools are required by law to

[10:12] implement a coordinated school health program in grades K-8.

[10:18] And what is it?

[10:20] It's a systematic approach to advancing academic performance by promoting practicing and coordinating

[10:25] school health education and services for the benefit and well-being of our students and

[10:30] establishing healthy behaviors designated to last a lifetime.

[10:34] And

[10:37] this just is a graphic that is encompassing of our whole school,

[10:43] whole community, whole child's reach within the SHAC committee.

[10:53] So here's some components.

[10:55] We talk about health education, nutrition, employee wellness,

[10:59] social and emotional school climate, the physical climate, health services,

[11:06] counseling and psychological and social services,

[11:08] community involvement, parent engagement, and physical education and physical activity.

[11:18] So our goals for our districts and campuses is to increase the percentage of students

[11:23] who are able to achieve healthy fitness zone standards, develop and implement goals and objectives

[11:29] for physical education and activity programs, incorporate the CSH coordinated school health

[11:37] as a part of our campus improvement plans

[11:40] or a district improvement plans.

[11:42] Strengthen and utilize SHAC to support the implementation

[11:45] of all school health policies and practices.

[11:50] So our national health standards that in HES

[11:55] are written expectations for what students should know

[11:58] or be able to do by grades two, five, eight, and 12.

[12:02] Those are considered capstone grades

[12:06] to promote personal, family, and community health.

[12:10] And these provide a framework for curriculum and development

[12:13] in selection, instruction, and student assessment

[12:16] and health education.

[12:20] This is just going over the standard.

[12:24] So, health, promotion, and disease prevention.

[12:27] The influence of family, peers, media, and culture

[12:31] on health behaviors.

[12:33] The ability to access valid information.

[12:35] and interpersonal communication skills.

[12:40] So how one is able to communicate with peers,

[12:43] but it's also intra-personal skills,

[12:46] meaning how can they talk about themselves.

[12:51] Decision-making skills, goal-setting skills, practicing healthy,

[12:56] health-enhancing behaviors, and the ability to advocate for self.

[13:01] You also see those talked about as far as executive function skills within students.

[13:10] So these are the legislative requirements that are committee related.

[13:16] We must have someone serve as a coach here.

[13:18] Our coach here is Selena Newcombe this year.

[13:20] You must have a minimum of five members.

[13:24] The majority must be parents who are not employees.

[13:28] We must meet at least four times a year.

[13:30] This happens to be our fourth meeting.

[13:32] The there's an annual report to the Board of Trustees, which you are now witness to and we open we operate under the open meeting guidelines set forth by the Texas legislature.

[13:47] We provide oversight for the following activities required at local campuses.

[13:53] Notice upload course content by the district web page to obtain parent consent prior to the delivery of any sexuality education.

[14:03] that we have partnered with Grace House ministries in the past, and so they will come and present at the first meeting of next school year.

[14:15] Since we had some voting members who were interested in being the people to vote on that curriculum every year.

[14:26] since we have members who will be moving off this school year, and new members who will be joining us next year that seems like a wish that we should uphold.

[14:38] Ensure that full day pre-K participate in at least 30 minutes of vigorous activity, include goals for objectives for coordinated school health, administer physical fitness assessments to all students in third through 12th grade.

[14:55] She's an Evidence-based Alcohol Awareness Instructional Program.

[15:00] Use the Papa Program PA in high school or middle school health classes can apply with revised graduation requirements as needed.

[15:15] So this is the Senate Bill 530 is required at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. And it talks about the fitness Graham being the physical fitness assessment that we use.

[15:32] in order to ensure that our students are growing in their physical capabilities from year to year.

[15:40] This is just a little bit more about the fitness

[15:43] grant and the the zone from which students are achieving those physical fitness goals.

[15:57] Fitness grant does not place an emphasis on skill but rather measures a student with their ability

[16:03] for either individual performance.

[16:10] There is a significant relationship between physical health

[16:14] and physical fitness and academic achievement as well.

[16:21] So this year we represented parents, community,

[16:25] members, staff, and administrators of NELSEF ISD.

[16:28] We maintained a catalog of services in both Parker

[16:31] and Pelopino counties, which is available on our website.

[16:36] We updated information and posted on MISD's website, including our

[16:41] minutes, agendas, recordings, and all meetings were held in compliance with

[16:46] Texas Open Records Act. And we continued to vet and vote on establishing

[16:51] programs at each campus level, meeting the needs and students in conjunction with

[16:57] student needs in our community standards.

[17:01] We've reviewed and voted on implementing

[17:04] the following. We recommended a continued partnership with Pure Truth, which is

[17:10] run through Grace House Ministries for our eighth graders through the Health

[17:16] Curriculum. Our committee recommended MISD offer stop the bleed for students to

[17:24] become annually certified in that. Our committee continued to recommend our

[17:32] our partnership with Department of Family and Protective Services.

[17:38] We ensured compliance with all TEA and national standards.

[17:43] And we ensured that each campus health program had previously met the aforementioned state

[17:49] goals.

[17:51] These are just a list of useful websites that go along with this presentation.

[17:58] and then this presentation was originally created in 2015 and has been updated through June 2024 to reflect any changes in state requirements, curriculum and local needs and assessments.

[18:26] meeting.
