[2:55]
school year my goodness we're talking 16
[2:58]
17 already and another hour and we
[3:01]
graduated 3,750 students last week so we
[3:08]
saw students walk with diplomas from all
[3:13]
13 of our sites including gun gusty
[3:16]
ovens thank you now thank you
[3:20]
I'm gonna do one recognition report
[3:25]
actually it's a sad one that I have to
[3:26]
make we have a board resolution here for
[3:30]
a former student of the Mobile County
[3:33]
public school system and it's a
[3:37]
resolution for Miss Rosetta gamble Brown
[3:40]
the sad news to report is that Miss
[3:43]
Brown has passed away and we understand
[3:48]
from my facts are correct that they are
[3:50]
bringing her back to mobile for her
[3:52]
funeral but she was a pathfinder for
[3:58]
civil rights in Mobile and was one of
[4:01]
the first African American students to
[4:03]
attend Murphy high school so I'm going
[4:05]
to read this resolution and then I want
[4:07]
to give it to our board member here mr.
[4:11]
battles who's a member of the n-double
[4:12]
a-c-p so you can
[4:16]
whereas rosetta gamble Bram was born on
[4:18]
July the 17th 1947 in Orville Alabama
[4:22]
and graduated from Murphy high schoo
[4:25]
Tuskegee University and Birmingham
[4:28]
Southern College and whereas she was one
[4:31]
of Mobile's first civil rights activists
[4:33]
and a crucial part of the integration of
[4:35]
Murphy high school and whereas her goal
[4:38]
was to help fight for equal education
[4:40]
for all students and whereas she was
[4:43]
loving and a devoted mother
[4:45]
grandmother's sister and friend and now
[4:47]
therefore I'm mr. Don Stringfellow
[4:49]
president of the Mobile Board of school
[4:51]
commissioners along with the
[4:53]
superintendent of the mobile public
[4:55]
school system and the remaining members
[4:56]
of the school do recognize the
[4:59]
outstanding contribution made by Messrs
[5:01]
Rosetta Campbell Brown to the public
[5:04]
school system of Mobile County
[5:06]
authorization this document requested by
[5:08]
mr. Stringfellow and district from
[5:10]
district 2 on this 24th day of May 2016
[5:13]
and Miss to meet one come in she was
[5:20]
born in or via Alabama where my pastor
[5:23]
Reverend Charles Arthur Thompson was
[5:25]
born in Oroville Alabama who I have
[5:28]
attended Stonestreet since I was nine
[5:30]
years old I think I'm about 27 now on
[5:35]
behalf of the family and the
[5:37]
n-double-a-cp in the community we just
[5:39]
thank you for this recognition because
[5:41]
pair founders always need to be
[5:42]
recognized but when they recognize
[5:45]
somebody gonna emulate them and father
[5:47]
so thank you very much I graduated from
[5:49]
the University of South Alabama in the
[5:51]
first craze in nineteen so we were pair
[5:54]
founders at the University in 1966 thank
[5:57]
you that's right
[5:58]
Oh mr. Harwell you have any
[6:00]
announcements or
[6:03]
don't announcer that I have is that on
[6:05]
Thursday night it means middle school
[6:07]
we're gonna have a town meeting to
[6:10]
discuss with the community about some
[6:12]
issues that we feel the very rough and
[6:13]
so that's all I got okay to start at six
[6:16]
o'clock and we inviting the general
[6:18]
probably to come in and just to get some
[6:19]
comments and input thank you
[6:21]
yes sir dr. Crenshaw no dr. Foster
[6:24]
no okay thank you we're going to move on
[6:27]
to citizens requests I have the list
[6:30]
here the first let me read this off to
[6:33]
you the delegates who speak will have
[6:35]
five minutes to make their presentations
[6:38]
the good name and or character of an
[6:40]
individual may not be discussed during
[6:42]
an open board meeting and our
[6:45]
superintendent miss peek will be keeping
[6:47]
the time here is the mic is the is it
[6:50]
right there okay first one I have on the
[6:53]
list here is Miss Kathy batiste miss
[6:56]
biteys if you would please I did
[7:02]
pronounce a correct my name is Kathy
[7:07]
Betty so I'm a representative here from
[7:08]
little B with some high school and I
[7:10]
represent the PTA I stand before you
[7:13]
because of some of the things that we
[7:14]
have been talking about that's been on
[7:16]
the media this morning that's in
[7:17]
reference to make East middle school
[7:19]
merging it with with some high school we
[7:22]
have parents and supporters that are
[7:24]
here today who are against this decision
[7:26]
making due to a lot of several reasons
[7:28]
and I do know that I only have five
[7:29]
minutes to discuss this I just hit on
[7:31]
some of the main topics one of the
[7:33]
topics is it's in reference to teenage
[7:35]
students mixing in with high school
[7:38]
students mixing in with middle school
[7:39]
students we have decreased our pregnancy
[7:42]
rate at Wilson High School we feel that
[7:44]
when you merge this school with some
[7:46]
that will increase we have done
[7:48]
parenting communication in education
[7:51]
with our students and once you emerge at
[7:53]
your middle school students in we're
[7:54]
gonna have issues with that as well
[7:56]
social media is the biggest thing here
[7:58]
we have we're afraid that we may
[8:00]
increase rape cases due to the fact of
[8:02]
older students with younger students
[8:04]
another thing we want to talk about is
[8:06]
in reference to administration we at
[8:08]
this point went through a whole school
[8:10]
year with a principal who had to serve
[8:12]
as a math teacher for the school system
[8:15]
when a school board
[8:16]
not provide us one so he did double
[8:18]
duties which I commend him on that
[8:20]
however if you were to blend middle
[8:23]
school students in with with some high
[8:25]
school there is nothing on your agenda
[8:27]
you have not provided to the public that
[8:29]
you will provide us with the best
[8:31]
administrative staff that we need we
[8:33]
don't get enough teachers we don't get
[8:35]
qualified enough qualified teachers
[8:37]
because I receive a letter every year
[8:40]
stating a teacher has not met
[8:41]
credibility and that you wanted to
[8:43]
inform me but then that destroys our
[8:45]
parents from sending their children to
[8:48]
school and maintaining them in our
[8:50]
school I have a child there myself and
[8:52]
believe we're some high school has
[8:54]
provide all three of my girls with the
[8:56]
best education that they can get and
[8:58]
they're all graduating from college the
[9:00]
other thing that's on the agenda is the
[9:02]
facility with some high school does not
[9:04]
even have a cafeteria that can hold the
[9:06]
students that we already have how are
[9:08]
you gonna merge middle school students
[9:09]
in with with some high and our facility
[9:12]
cannot accommodate them the other thing
[9:14]
is money that was almost millions of
[9:17]
dollars I think 7.6 million dollars that
[9:19]
was allocated to Maine's middle school
[9:22]
to build that establishment there so
[9:24]
when you close down Maine's middle
[9:26]
school will that money be allocated to
[9:28]
with some high school we had a hard
[9:30]
enough time trying to get our sports
[9:31]
facility to be upgraded so that we can
[9:35]
provide better athletes for our
[9:37]
collegiate people who come here to
[9:39]
recruit you
[9:39]
then there's the defibrillated building
[9:42]
that sits across from the school that
[9:45]
we've been fighting with city councilmen
[9:47]
and for you all to stand in that is
[9:49]
rat-infested that has caught on fire
[9:52]
several times you put our children in
[9:54]
danger when you have this building
[9:57]
across the street that has not been torn
[9:59]
down we've signed petitions we've done
[10:01]
everything possible to get you all to
[10:03]
tear that building down then there's a
[10:06]
club mingoes sits right on the corner of
[10:09]
a school system you have George Hall
[10:12]
down the street we can even get you all
[10:14]
to standing to tear that down and get
[10:16]
that move as well for years we are now
[10:20]
embarking on a 100-year celebration a
[10:23]
school that started in a house in
[10:26]
Maysville when blacks were not created
[10:29]
equal
[10:30]
so when we started from there and we
[10:32]
moved to where we are standing now every
[10:35]
year you all come up with a tactic to
[10:37]
destroy the school credibility
[10:39]
number one you rezone the school
[10:42]
district the school district resolved we
[10:45]
feel may be on your agenda differently
[10:47]
was to populate BC rain High School when
[10:52]
you populate the BC rain high school
[10:54]
that took our children from our school
[10:56]
number two not only have you done that
[10:59]
you have you discredit us throughout the
[11:01]
years through media we made the but we
[11:04]
was off the bad school list for four
[11:06]
years three to four years as soon as we
[11:08]
made it back on the list we are over
[11:11]
national news but when Murphy was on a
[11:14]
bad list we heard nothing of it not one
[11:18]
thing so what we are asking fund I do
[11:20]
understand I have one minute what we're
[11:23]
asking for is just what you spoke up
[11:25]
with the N double AC P is equal T we
[11:28]
want the same thing we want the same
[11:30]
extracurricular that every school has
[11:33]
you took away the drama
[11:34]
you took away you start our band dr.
[11:37]
Edison told us we couldn't have a band
[11:39]
on auxiliary until we got a band
[11:41]
director we have all this stuff going on
[11:44]
that's negative towards our school but
[11:46]
you're not giving us enough to fight
[11:47]
with
[11:49]
[Applause]
[11:57]
next I have June Jones Miss Jones hi I'm
[12:05]
June Jones I'm a retired math teacher
[12:08]
from Chicago I've come here as a casual
[12:12]
observer I'm also sit on the Education
[12:15]
Committee of the n-double a-c-p
[12:17]
I'm boring them with a leak low League
[12:20]
of Women Voters and I have some concerns
[12:24]
about the ten failing schools one thing
[12:28]
being a math teacher from Chicago I've
[12:31]
worked with inner-city schools at-risk
[12:33]
schools I have made a coalition plan for
[12:37]
the schools where I will hope I can meet
[12:39]
with some members where we can go over
[12:41]
this plan right now it's about 15 pages
[12:43]
so a little bit too long to go into
[12:46]
right now but some of the main points is
[12:48]
making the board making a school system
[12:50]
transparent have a more information that
[12:53]
is e that is equally accessible to all
[12:57]
people without passwords and
[12:58]
what-have-you
[12:59]
another thing is accountability now what
[13:02]
I'm hearing now some of the things she
[13:04]
was talking about was new to me because
[13:06]
again I'm new to mobile but some of that
[13:09]
is accountability and transparency that
[13:11]
the parents should have a voice in I'm a
[13:15]
parent I represent a lot of mothers we
[13:17]
have the same view you see we're going
[13:20]
to say we're gonna have equal
[13:21]
opportunity for education we should have
[13:23]
that I came in here observing high
[13:25]
schools and I see kids counting on their
[13:27]
fingers I'm a math teacher
[13:29]
I should not see any twelfth grader
[13:32]
counting on their fingers I don't care
[13:34]
how many kids you graduated they're not
[13:36]
qualified
[13:37]
they're simply not qualified another
[13:39]
thing I have the issue with us having
[13:41]
high school people that substitute in
[13:43]
high school when they only have a high
[13:45]
school diploma you're not qualified to
[13:47]
teach so that means when a student have
[13:49]
a substitute in their classroom there is
[13:51]
no education you have a hundred and
[13:54]
eighty days for education every last
[13:56]
mono stage to be used for their
[13:57]
education now one day should be used as
[13:59]
play I do not see eight playgrounds
[14:03]
meaning these soccer fields coming up
[14:05]
when our children are not being educated
[14:08]
you have thousands of kids being
[14:11]
undereducated but you're worrying about
[14:13]
school playgrounds I don't see that so I
[14:17]
really would like to meet with some of
[14:19]
you it's a very detailed plan for
[14:21]
transparency qualified situations and we
[14:25]
have been working on this for a few days
[14:28]
we have not asked for the meeting yet
[14:32]
but I heard about this meeting this
[14:34]
morning on my way to the YMCA so I had
[14:36]
to get here and do what I had to do but
[14:39]
these are things that are needed that
[14:41]
would get your schools to actually
[14:44]
become noppfairy schools it is not
[14:47]
something that you can turn around in a
[14:48]
couple of years from my understanding
[14:50]
was talking with the public that you
[14:52]
have turned principals around in two
[14:55]
three years that is no way in the world
[14:57]
you're going to get a school to pass and
[14:59]
that lose amount of time you have to
[15:01]
change the climate of the school you
[15:02]
have to change the attitude of the
[15:04]
school and let me just say this I'm not
[15:06]
only a high school teacher my bachelor's
[15:10]
was in mathematics I have a master's in
[15:12]
curriculum and instruction and a
[15:14]
master's in educational leadership I've
[15:17]
not a plaything right here I'm very
[15:19]
serious and this is not just to
[15:20]
criticize your system I saw a system not
[15:23]
working I came down here and found more
[15:25]
students being taught in home-school
[15:28]
which kind of opened my eyes to the
[15:30]
situation when I went in on the voter's
[15:32]
18 to get kids to register for school I
[15:35]
could not believe that kids their
[15:37]
children our students was happen asking
[15:40]
for better education they deserved it
[15:43]
and I'm good you know I can talk forever
[15:45]
but I'm good I'm taking this job
[15:51]
next we have mr. James Adams my name is
[16:00]
james adams i'm the mayor of mount
[16:02]
vernon Alabama and I'm standing before
[16:05]
you all today didn't come prepare to to
[16:10]
give a big lengthy speech anything like
[16:13]
that I come on speak from my heart I
[16:15]
really feel like that the school bell
[16:20]
saw ET bell so wasn't represented well
[16:24]
parents did on numerous times a note or
[16:30]
notify people that look the teachers are
[16:35]
not teaching this or did we we don't
[16:37]
have band we they got rid of the
[16:39]
athletic courts and stuff like and
[16:42]
nothing was done about it okay now did
[16:46]
you the kids started numbers started
[16:49]
going down okay
[16:51]
the reason that's why because if it was
[16:54]
your child in school you want your child
[16:57]
to get the best education he can under
[17:00]
the best teachers that they can so after
[17:03]
nothing was done our parents in my
[17:05]
opponent didn't have a choice but to
[17:07]
start moving kids to other schools that
[17:11]
wouldn't be my choice I like to tackle a
[17:13]
problem if you got a problem let's try
[17:15]
to solve the problem but that wasn't
[17:18]
happening because they wasn't getting
[17:19]
the results from from the other stuff
[17:22]
though so the parents started moving
[17:24]
them so when you move kids what happened
[17:27]
to the remainder the numbers go down and
[17:29]
that's that's what you all are howling
[17:32]
about the numbers plus it was a failing
[17:35]
school okay if they don't have qualified
[17:38]
teachers enough and I wasn't not there
[17:40]
one teach me but you won't get qualified
[17:43]
kids and you won't get good results now
[17:46]
they was telling my shutting it down I
[17:51]
am asking that this doesn't happen
[17:54]
I remember when Bell saw was blooming in
[17:58]
Mount Vernon as a school that change over years because of the
[18:05]
problem I'm telling you about different
[18:08]
person and you all know how many
[18:09]
principles have been up there you all
[18:11]
know how many teachers unison up but
[18:13]
that was a problem with Bell so getting
[18:16]
certified or qualified principals and
[18:19]
teachers not saying that they wasn't
[18:21]
qualified because I'm not saying but
[18:23]
they kept going in and out changing out
[18:25]
when you start changing out that's
[18:27]
telling me something so after they
[18:29]
couldn't get athletics the band they had
[18:32]
one of the best bands in mobile counted
[18:35]
eight that elementary school when it was
[18:36]
up there play with the high schools they
[18:39]
played played in my leg row they march
[18:41]
with their dog all kind of parades so
[18:45]
they had a good core of teachers at that
[18:49]
time for some reason we lost them now oh
[18:53]
it's sad that the kids are going suffer
[18:58]
with this obviously I remember him right
[19:02]
out through South :
[19:05]
I saw a groundbreaking service and so I
[19:09]
got curious and went over there they
[19:11]
said this was new middle school I said a
[19:14]
mill school
[19:15]
you got Bell so down why would you need
[19:18]
a but you know things had to happen so
[19:21]
then there was North Mobile years what
[19:26]
about Dennis they were your kids
[19:28]
eventually gonna have to go to North
[19:30]
Mobile I said why we got Bell saw a nice
[19:33]
school he's not run down anything kids can stand with the best you got so
[19:41]
last year they got rid of all the middle
[19:46]
of students and I have a granddaughter
[19:49]
right there was she had the third haiji
[19:52]
PA in eighth grade this year on the
[19:54]
other day she was the top one of the top
[19:57]
honor the students there so you're gonna
[20:03]
find that in our own schools you know
[20:04]
you're gonna find some good with some
[20:06]
bad ones my thing is when you moved all
[20:09]
the middle students to know him mobile
[20:12]
that show enough give way to getting rid
[20:17]
of the elementary now to me because you
[20:22]
built north mobile it like to me it was
[20:25]
a cleverly orchestrated plan um that's
[20:32]
I'm thinking for my heart it it feels
[20:34]
like it was a plan and that plan was
[20:38]
going through when they got no mobile
[20:40]
the students eventually went down then
[20:43]
you moved to middle school all you have
[20:45]
was Elementary not only that they built
[20:49]
and I'm not against anybody getting us
[20:51]
through school I'm not
[20:53]
they built Castle diva a couple of miles
[20:56]
away from so when you building new
[20:59]
schools around another school what do we
[21:01]
expect those kids Thank You mr. Evans
[21:04]
thank you sir next speaker is miss
[21:14]
Carolyn blanks maze
[21:34]
yes I minister caseta Jackson and we
[21:37]
just want to let you all know whatever
[21:40]
you're doing whatever decision you think
[21:44]
you have me this is not the end of it
[21:48]
how do you feel
[21:49]
see it's not any of your children who
[21:53]
you want to merge together how do you
[21:56]
feel if your middle school and your high
[21:59]
school coming together think about it
[22:03]
think about your grand children and
[22:05]
teenagers so we want to let you know
[22:10]
that this is not the end and we are not
[22:17]
gonna stand by and let you do what you
[22:22]
want to do when you get ready put your
[22:26]
money where you want to put it you build
[22:28]
your new center near high school so you
[22:31]
want applause Mays middle school in
[22:33]
order to find that big ol or college but
[22:39]
you can't do that I see y'all in y'all
[22:43]
positions making your money but now it's
[22:49]
time for all the people to wake up and
[22:52]
stop you close I added blacks through
[22:54]
all these schools I will let you join
[22:57]
you don't care about them talk about
[22:59]
your grandchildren think about your
[23:01]
children so you never thought about that
[23:05]
ha put your children in that position so
[23:11]
nice and how many more minutes I got all
[23:13]
sister Pete
[23:16]
two more minutes okay I'm gonna use my
[23:20]
two minutes in the name of Jesus so we
[23:25]
ask God right now see I'm talking to
[23:28]
Jesus and I'm gonna use my two minutes
[23:31]
Lord you know what's going on right here
[23:34]
and God we know in school star back we
[23:38]
demand our new school for Maine's middle
[23:41]
school no I all these yields they've
[23:46]
been shut down I would look blood
[23:48]
children so God you know you made all of
[23:51]
us and you love us our own but God you
[23:54]
don't like that either iniquity where
[23:57]
people are doing and go reacts you right
[24:00]
now in the name of Jesus to move our
[24:03]
maize middle school and move on out of
[24:05]
schools what we need in the name of
[24:07]
Jesus Amy and God you mu you know how to
[24:11]
move see we don't know her but we
[24:13]
petition it all to You Lord right now in
[24:16]
the name of Jesus I understand on one
[24:18]
minute but Jesus's are all minute in the
[24:22]
name of Jesus Amy and we thank you Lord
[24:25]
and love whatever you need to do for the
[24:27]
school board lawyer you know how to shut
[24:29]
it up in the name of Jesus you're right
[24:32]
move it you've not a move on the board
[24:34]
you ride a church right now in the name
[24:37]
of Jesus Amy and lo we want to give you
[24:39]
an honor we want to give you the praise
[24:41]
and a mighty name of Jesus and you fix
[24:43]
the law fix it Betsy
[24:45]
don't let them sleep tonight don't let
[24:47]
no time sleep tonight don't ever sleep
[24:50]
[Applause]
[24:58]
okay we've been told by some of our
[25:03]
black community you don't know me
[25:05]
talking and loud and all that but see we
[25:08]
ain't them
[25:09]
and we're gonna say like just like we
[25:12]
want to say it and if that bothers them
[25:15]
they're just too bad if they say we
[25:17]
ain't no Christian car we talkin what we
[25:19]
talkin well they're just too bad
[25:21]
they told dr. King he was a devil but
[25:23]
they don't mean nothin
[25:25]
okay I do know this and I don't care
[25:28]
what nobody person said the information
[25:30]
that I have and I got this on legal
[25:33]
ground and so don't tell me I don't know
[25:35]
what I'm talking about
[25:36]
all y'all up in communal about we don't
[25:39]
know we talk about the reason they want
[25:42]
to close may ends is because it's the
[25:47]
whole city plan other choice
[25:51]
humility okay the charge community is
[25:56]
the consist of our V Taylor Birds veal
[26:02]
and barking towel well who goes to those
[26:06]
stools the people in the project so they
[26:12]
feel like see if they can push this
[26:14]
choice neighborhood through then they
[26:17]
won't need may ease so that's why the
[26:20]
city Mobile mayor steps and all them got
[26:23]
together with child and I'm proud to me
[26:25]
you know what y'all have on the country
[26:26]
well y'all got together and said well we
[26:29]
gonna close that down so now what you're
[26:34]
trying to do is carry out what y'all
[26:36]
understood but don't depend on that
[26:40]
there Charles community gonna come to
[26:42]
Pam cop I got a little right here from
[26:46]
Washington DC that that the mayor in the
[26:50]
city can't even push that commuter
[26:52]
through unless he gonna get working
[26:54]
approval with the community what they
[26:57]
gonna do they're not gonna just push
[26:59]
this out and be a no snow no no new
[27:02]
streets and and no a new buildings and
[27:05]
gonna push all them for
[27:07]
black folks on the street not this time
[27:10]
you're getting it over and Prichard you
[27:13]
did only happy here
[27:14]
you did it all the orange go and now
[27:17]
you're back to do it over here so that's
[27:19]
what this main instinct is about but I
[27:22]
won't try to know whatever to see you
[27:24]
have me will make that will not be the
[27:28]
end of that if they take every dollar I
[27:32]
got saved up I plan on taking every one
[27:37]
of y'all to court about this because
[27:41]
it's time that the federal government
[27:43]
know how y'all been doing us all these
[27:46]
years
[27:47]
we are told it's no no we're not gonna
[28:07]
do that
[28:08]
not anymore I told you everything on the
[28:11]
earth goes by season and time nothing
[28:14]
happens but by season time you don't
[28:17]
have you don't know nobody don't bling
[28:19]
about it everything happens on a season
[28:21]
he may let some go for seventy year but
[28:24]
after that seven year he'll cut it down
[28:26]
when God said he got tired of just white
[28:29]
folks going in that white house he shot
[28:31]
got me somebody now I don't want just a
[28:33]
wife or gonna be and so when Barack
[28:35]
Obama started running for office
[28:36]
everybody Mobile started get it get it get it and now he done
[28:42]
beating that and now he's ready for the
[28:47]
black community to rise you know when
[28:52]
August coming you know how to keep your
[28:54]
buck cheering at home you know what the
[28:57]
Duke they don't told you what to do when
[29:00]
they die on those streets and they're
[29:02]
six they talk to you what to do stand up
[29:04]
for yourself how we now gonna stand by
[29:07]
y'all can depend on their thank you
[29:17]
next we have mr. Peter Cutler
[29:27]
thank you those of you that don't know
[29:29]
me my name is Peter cup 4mu served
[29:32]
director with the Alabama Alabama
[29:34]
Education Association and we do have
[29:37]
some concerns as it pertains to
[29:39]
transparency I'm not gonna talk any
[29:41]
about that but as it pertains to some
[29:43]
budget and fiduciary concerns we
[29:46]
understand the original intent of the
[29:48]
legislature was to provide for
[29:50]
additional funding was to provide four
[29:53]
percent pay raise for our certified
[29:55]
everybody all or nothing four percent
[29:57]
and also an allocation of increased
[30:00]
teacher units but what we've come to
[30:03]
understand is there's some concern with
[30:05]
teacher certifications there there's the
[30:08]
case that a lot of middle school
[30:10]
teachers with a one through six
[30:12]
certificate are being requested by their
[30:14]
supervisors to go back to elementary
[30:16]
school or obtain a six through 12 or
[30:18]
higher certificate and we certainly
[30:20]
would hope that you would acknowledge
[30:21]
that the state recognizes their one
[30:23]
through six certificate and the fact
[30:25]
that they can teach for up to two years
[30:27]
on emergency status - and have that time
[30:30]
to obtain a higher certificate if they
[30:33]
so chose that's one concern and let it
[30:36]
be known that from the time of ninth
[30:38]
through twelfth grade it is the case
[30:41]
nationally but specifically to mobile
[30:43]
that a student will have over a year of
[30:46]
time with a substitute teacher so there
[30:51]
is a demand for these increased teacher
[30:53]
allocations and we expect that the board
[30:55]
would move to increase teacher
[30:57]
allocation units and we understand that
[30:59]
you do have the authority and discretion
[31:00]
to have some flexibility with that but
[31:03]
we'd like to see increased teachers we'd
[31:05]
like to see more teachers and more
[31:07]
opportunity for teachers to obtain
[31:09]
through the district's pay paying them
[31:12]
to get higher certification if that is
[31:14]
the request but we certainly would not
[31:16]
want to see a mandate come that they get
[31:19]
a higher certificate when it's certainly
[31:21]
it's not incumbent that they do so as
[31:23]
the state recognizes there
[31:24]
certificate so we come to you with those
[31:26]
concerns we'd like to see some increased
[31:28]
communications from the superintendent's
[31:30]
office and the administration and a lot
[31:33]
of the leadership assistant
[31:34]
superintendents have been very good
[31:36]
about communicating with me and I thank
[31:38]
you for that when I've asked a question
[31:40]
it has been responded to mr. HR however
[31:44]
we'd like to see a little more
[31:45]
correspondence in cooperation with the
[31:48]
superintendent's office and some of the
[31:50]
administration as it pertains to
[31:52]
academic affairs thank you thank you
[31:57]
next we have miss Lisa Washington I'm
[32:26]
new here I've only been here a year I
[32:29]
want to say hello to the board miss peek
[32:32]
I understand you're the first female
[32:34]
superintendent here in Mobile and maybe
[32:38]
in the state but mistake of the state
[32:42]
well not in the state not in the
[32:44]
statement okay but to be the first and
[32:47]
to know how important your job is as a
[32:51]
woman as looking in this room and seeing
[32:54]
fellow women there's mostly women in
[32:57]
here speaking on the needs for better
[33:00]
quality education for our kids and it
[33:03]
just seems to me that every time we have
[33:07]
to close down to school even after we've
[33:10]
used that particular school to get a
[33:13]
hundred million dollars to make
[33:15]
improvements I understand that last year
[33:19]
you yourself and the Board of Health
[33:22]
said that may Eames is not to be torn
[33:25]
down that it is a school that is
[33:28]
qualified to be repair and be rebuilt
[33:31]
and resources need to be put into it to
[33:35]
help make it better we lose good
[33:37]
teachers
[33:38]
when we have mold and mildew we lose our
[33:41]
babies when we have dilapidated
[33:43]
bathrooms and we go down the hall and we
[33:46]
can't even walk safely from one class to
[33:49]
the next we start to lose and we start
[33:52]
to disseminate and it makes me wonder is
[33:54]
it something that has to do with real
[33:57]
estate is this something that has to do
[33:59]
with okay in this area
[34:02]
we're under underprivileged we're
[34:05]
underrepresented we are people who can
[34:09]
be looked upon as an infestation of
[34:11]
roaches and so we're gonna stop us out
[34:14]
take the school destroy it and move on
[34:18]
what happens to our babies we have
[34:21]
children who need and deserve that
[34:23]
quality education and I know from mother
[34:26]
to mother grandmother - grandmother we
[34:29]
need to make sure that whatever happens
[34:32]
- may in school whether it's being
[34:35]
destroyed whether it's being refurbished
[34:38]
like I thought it was from a year ago
[34:41]
all of a sudden now it's gonna be
[34:43]
destroyed I don't understand how the
[34:45]
quality went to the point of that is it
[34:48]
cheaper is it a real estate I think it's
[34:50]
a money thing it's cheaper to tear it
[34:53]
down and leave these families which is
[34:56]
wet less than 400 student population now
[35:02]
one child one family has to struggle
[35:06]
with trying to either relocate get a bus
[35:09]
go here go there instead of staying and
[35:12]
dealing with the problem right there at
[35:15]
the site and making it happen
[35:17]
we tear it down and spread everybody out
[35:20]
and divide us and I just feel like it's
[35:24]
the wrong Avenue to take and I'm sorry
[35:27]
we disagree but I just feel like if we
[35:32]
say we're gonna stay stick and stay and
[35:34]
make the problem no longer a problem
[35:36]
let's do that instead of running or
[35:39]
putting the money in a place because it
[35:43]
has a higher value real estate wise and
[35:46]
not consider our babies thank you thank
[35:50]
you
[35:51]
[Applause]
[35:54]
X I have Willie and law a grandmother of
[36:08]
a student that means my grandson is not
[36:15]
emotionally maturely ready to be pushed
[36:21]
in with a bunch of high school students
[36:26]
to be there he will never go to two
[36:32]
Williamson in under these conditions you
[36:36]
know that school is I think as a is it a
[36:42]
good school if we can band together and
[36:45]
bring the programs there that you have
[36:49]
at these other schools have multiple
[36:52]
reading and enrichment math they have
[36:55]
bands they have functioning bathrooms
[36:59]
they have walkways where the seem it's
[37:02]
not falling from the top and a lot of
[37:06]
them are much older you know there was
[37:09]
money allocated for maize for the floor
[37:12]
for a couple other schools and when
[37:16]
Murphy sustained some damage they took
[37:20]
it from everybody to fix Murphy because
[37:24]
they wanted Murphy 50 Murphy fix right
[37:25]
now well Marty could have tear it tear
[37:29]
it down
[37:33]
in our our kids deserve that our kids
[37:40]
are worth more than what you can ever
[37:44]
imagine you get you get people like
[37:48]
dizzy collapse it comes from a school
[37:50]
like that you have there's so much
[37:54]
talent so much knowledge so much that
[37:59]
can happen with those kids if you only
[38:02]
put forth an ounce of effort to cure the
[38:08]
problem instead of stop with them
[38:10]
killing them throwing them to the
[38:12]
wayside
[38:14]
[Applause]
[38:17]
next Jesse McDaniel good afternoon
[38:31]
as always it's an honor and privilege to
[38:34]
be here today to represent teachers and
[38:36]
support staff in the Mobile County
[38:38]
public school system my name is Jesse
[38:40]
McDaniel and I work with Alabama
[38:42]
Education Association I rise today to
[38:47]
speak about an issue that is probably
[38:51]
going to be overlooked and I didn't want
[38:54]
it to be because it's very important if
[38:56]
you'll if you have an agenda it's item G
[38:58]
5 the plant which is the what they call
[39:02]
the fund balance plan if you look at
[39:06]
that plan and you look down to the fifth
[39:10]
bullet point on that plan there's
[39:14]
something that's really alarming to me
[39:16]
as a professional association leader
[39:19]
here in this county and that is the
[39:21]
proposal that this school board adopt a
[39:23]
plan to actually endorse increasing
[39:28]
class sizes and you would be increasing
[39:31]
class sizes by reducing the number of
[39:34]
locally funded units beginning this year
[39:38]
by 13 teachers this is being proposed in
[39:44]
an effort to save a million dollars a
[39:46]
year
[39:47]
with the promise of more reductions in
[39:50]
locally funded units in years to come
[39:54]
now you can ask any mother in this room
[39:58]
whether or not they think their child's
[40:00]
classroom needs to be larger but I know
[40:03]
the answer to that question you can ask
[40:04]
any educator in this room if class sizes
[40:07]
need to be larger and I know the answer is not to enlarge your class
[40:14]
sizes and to lay off teachers the answer
[40:17]
is to reduce class sizes which is
[40:19]
exactly what the Alabama Legislature put
[40:23]
in their budget this year for the first
[40:25]
time in a long time
[40:27]
425 additional teachers across this
[40:29]
state many of those will be coming to
[40:32]
Mobile County and so what this fund
[40:35]
balance plan is proposing is to just say
[40:38]
okay well the legislature is going to
[40:40]
give us some more teachers so we're just
[40:41]
going to get rid of some of our local
[40:42]
units so that we can save a million
[40:44]
dollars a year with more with the
[40:47]
promise of more to come in subsequent
[40:49]
years this is absolutely the wrong way
[40:52]
to go and I couldn't just sit here and
[40:55]
let that go unchallenged I mean somebody
[40:57]
needs to be speaking up for these
[40:59]
teachers I'm proud of these community
[41:01]
members speaking up for themselves but
[41:03]
the teachers need somebody up here
[41:05]
speaking for them and the answer is not
[41:10]
to increase class size by cutting
[41:13]
teacher units you need to be going in
[41:15]
the opposite direction reducing the
[41:17]
class size we care about education it is
[41:20]
without dispute that a lower number of
[41:23]
students in a classroom is is important
[41:27]
one final thing if you look down board
[41:31]
members to where it says other
[41:32]
suggestions one of those suggestions is
[41:35]
that this board consider outsourcing
[41:39]
special education paraprofessional
[41:41]
positions to companies like Appleton and
[41:44]
other quote unquote talent management
[41:47]
companies I would urge the greatest
[41:51]
caution in that consideration because
[41:54]
there are a lot of unanswered questions
[41:56]
when you want to talk about outsourcing
[41:59]
your special ed jobs for kids who are the least of these
[42:03]
in this world what kind of background
[42:07]
checks are these people going to have
[42:09]
what kind of training will these
[42:11]
employees be given what kind of chain of
[42:14]
command is going to be in place when you
[42:15]
have contractors working alongside
[42:17]
district employees
[42:19]
how will you recruit and retain quality
[42:21]
employees who have no job rights no
[42:24]
security no benefits and no opportunity
[42:26]
for representation I would urge the
[42:30]
greatest possible caution board members
[42:32]
in these considerations thank you very
[42:34]
much next speaker is Miss Betty Mac shin
[43:12]
machine just asked me to speak on her
[43:14]
behalf my name is ty burton and i do not
[43:19]
have children and the Mobile County
[43:20]
public school system can y'all help me
[43:24]
now okay I do not have children and the
[43:28]
Mobile County public school system I was
[43:32]
actually not even a student of the
[43:33]
Mobile County public school system
[43:35]
although I am for mobile but I live on
[43:38]
DeSoto Drive directly behind Maine's
[43:42]
middle school and currently I manage one
[43:50]
of the largest law firms in Mobile and I
[43:53]
want you to know that if I feel like the
[43:56]
children who live on my block are in
[43:58]
jeopardy we are going to seriously suit
[44:02]
you there's going to be some real
[44:04]
problems our community is tired of it
[44:08]
and we're not going to take it anymore
[44:11]
if we have to start a mobile city school
[44:15]
system that is what we will do whatever
[44:18]
it is to protect those children and
[44:20]
every little tyke he should just like me
[44:24]
that's what we're going to do so we are
[44:28]
here to listen I would love to hear the
[44:31]
conversation about why it's a good idea
[44:33]
because currently you have not cuz you
[44:36]
have not given any type of notice to our
[44:39]
community about it you do not have the
[44:42]
authority to just purge on and do what
[44:45]
you want to do without being accountable
[44:47]
to us and we are hereby holding you
[44:51]
accountable and that's it
[44:55]
[Applause]
[45:00]
next up miss Donna Kay Buckley miss
[45:05]
Buckley
[45:08]
okay
[45:10]
last is miss Quinn pew-pew
[45:18]
thank you I'm Councilwoman Gwen Pugh
[45:20]
from Mount Vernon did you say I was
[45:22]
laughs yes ma'am
[45:23]
I'd like to share my minutes with a
[45:24]
couple of parents here from bill somehow
[45:26]
I will share five minutes say something
[45:30]
I'll share my minutes with you all I
[45:32]
wrote down what I had to say so it won't
[45:34]
take but a minute
[45:35]
again I'm Councilwoman Pugh from Mount
[45:37]
Vernon and I'm here to give a plea I
[45:41]
want to give a plea to you all to give
[45:44]
our current principal a chance
[45:48]
there is no elected office that has one
[45:51]
year to get things done
[45:53]
there's no elected office that has one
[45:56]
year to make any real changes but since
[45:59]
she has been there we Belle saw Mount
[46:03]
Vernon sits between two multi-million
[46:05]
dollar steel plants and she has gotten
[46:08]
them involved they have donated funds
[46:10]
they have donated their time she told me
[46:13]
just yesterday there are probably 40
[46:16]
employees of these plants a week that
[46:19]
comes and reads with our children they
[46:22]
want to be a part of our community our
[46:25]
new principal wants to be a part of our
[46:27]
community but she has not had a chance
[46:29]
to become a part of the community and
[46:31]
when these students back now we've been
[46:34]
here before about six years ago and I
[46:36]
won't go into the past but I do want to
[46:38]
allow this parent to speak someone that
[46:40]
actually has a child there now but we've
[46:43]
been here before and when we were there
[46:45]
before we had more students then we lost
[46:48]
our band teacher first we lost him
[46:50]
part-time and then we lost him full-time
[46:52]
as one of the other speakers said who
[46:55]
wants their children to go to a school
[46:57]
where there is no extracurricular
[47:00]
activities and it's unfair it's kind of
[47:05]
I don't want to say we were set up to
[47:07]
fail
[47:09]
I don't I don't want to say that because
[47:13]
I'd like to think I mean I see doctor superintendent Commissioner I'd
[47:17]
like to think that we were not set up to
[47:19]
fail but we everything was taken away
[47:22]
from us and the parents did what parents
[47:24]
do
[47:25]
I want the best for my child so it's
[47:27]
just 15 miles away I'm gonna go to South
[47:30]
Co roll where there is band teachers and
[47:32]
there are issu curricular activities and
[47:34]
our school is on a solid foundation that
[47:38]
school as someone else stayed it looks
[47:40]
better than any new school that you have
[47:42]
we have no issues with that I know of
[47:45]
any running down of the school other
[47:49]
than our numbers and I feel like that
[47:52]
our numbers is a reaction to the
[47:55]
curriculum that has left
[47:57]
thank you for my name is Linda chest
[48:10]
pain my son attends to be a Mount Vernon
[48:13]
I would like to express to you that I
[48:15]
have seen great improvement with
[48:17]
BellSouth since miss corner walker has
[48:20]
been there I would like you all to
[48:23]
reconsider closing the school giving her
[48:25]
opportunity to do what she has set out
[48:27]
to do she's building the children up
[48:30]
they are more enthused to learn even
[48:33]
though it's just the five down the feels
[48:35]
great down yet and still they are
[48:38]
willing my son comes home every day mama
[48:43]
I did this I made this grade he's very
[48:46]
informed about what he need to do she's
[48:49]
there to help I made a phone call to her
[48:52]
about his grades she jumped on it right
[48:55]
dance and make sure it was you know what
[48:57]
it was so and then she and she
[49:00]
encouraged him that he was doing his
[49:02]
best because of the college it was set
[49:04]
up but anyway as a parent I've been in
[49:08]
situations myself where my
[49:10]
transportation was broken I could call a
[49:12]
neighbor and say go pick up my child if
[49:15]
they're sick or or
[49:21]
but anyway please reconsider closing the
[49:23]
school we need our school right there in
[49:26]
Mount Vernon thank you excuse me I know
[49:33]
that my name was not called however I do
[49:35]
have a question there some of us out
[49:39]
here seated that were here at 12:45
[49:42]
11:45 excuse me and several of us some
[49:47]
of us took off from our jobs to have the
[49:51]
opportunity to come and address the
[49:52]
board on the matings Williamson High
[49:54]
School issue and I'm just needing to ask
[49:57]
the question we want to know you know
[49:59]
how did you select your speakers did you
[50:01]
choose from a list of people what was
[50:05]
the rationale for the speakers you call
[50:06]
because there's several of us out here
[50:08]
about six or eight to be exact who've
[50:11]
not had an opportunity to speak our
[50:13]
being one of them and my name is Linda
[50:15]
Wilson I am a 1969 graduate of
[50:18]
Williamson High School a lifelong member
[50:20]
of the Maysville community and I have
[50:24]
some essential questions about this
[50:26]
proposed merger regarding matings and
[50:29]
Williamson high school very essential
[50:31]
questions why was the decision made we
[50:36]
were traumatized on Sunday afternoon at
[50:38]
an Alumni Association meeting when we
[50:40]
heard the news several of us just went
[50:43]
into shock didn't know what to do when
[50:45]
was the decision made who was informed
[50:48]
why weren't the citizens of the
[50:50]
Maysville community informed these are
[50:53]
very essential questions that I've not
[50:54]
heard an answer to you know out of all
[50:57]
the rhetoric that's been passed around
[50:59]
no one can answer these questions I also
[51:02]
would like to call your attention to the
[51:04]
National Historic Preservation Act of
[51:06]
1966 which authorizes the Secretary of
[51:10]
the Interior to maintain a National
[51:12]
Register of district's sights buildings
[51:16]
structures and objects significant in
[51:19]
American history architecture
[51:22]
archaeology engineering and culture
[51:26]
Williamson High School will celebrate
[51:28]
the 100th year of its founding that's
[51:31]
you and I would say that it represents
[51:33]
the
[51:34]
of the culture in the Maysville
[51:36]
community that is all that some of the
[51:38]
people in the community has to look up
[51:40]
to football games athletic events
[51:43]
community meetings meeting places you
[51:47]
know so we need to be reminded of this
[51:51]
Authorization Act that if we interfere
[51:53]
with buildings and structures that have
[51:57]
been the whole Maysville community by
[51:59]
the way is on the National Historic
[52:02]
Register of Historic Places so we're not
[52:05]
gonna stand by and let you merge
[52:09]
Williamson high school
[52:11]
we're not gonna let you stand by and
[52:13]
close it this is all we have to hold on
[52:15]
to this is our pride and joy and it will
[52:18]
be our pride and joy you approved the
[52:35]
recommendation to close burning school
[52:39]
we discussed yesterday that there has
[52:42]
been a continuing decline in enrollment
[52:44]
since 2007 it's 82% under capacity at
[52:50]
this time
[52:50]
Somu time we have a motion and a second
[52:56]
to uphold the superintendent's
[52:58]
recommendation for the closing of the
[53:01]
belt Bell saw Mount Vernon school any
[53:03]
discussion
[53:07]
no discussion all in favor say aye aye
[53:10]
those opposed no motion carries action
[53:16]
item G 2 I'd ask that you approved the
[53:20]
addendum to the continuous improvement
[53:22]
plan that was approved on March the 29th
[53:27]
to address the academic needs of 12
[53:30]
schools identified as failing schools by
[53:33]
the Alabama Accountability Act of 2013
[53:37]
in this addendum due to the incline a
[53:42]
declining enrollment at Maine's middle
[53:45]
school and in an
[53:47]
effort to provide a comprehensive
[53:49]
program which will include additional
[53:52]
classes and electives at Williamson high
[53:56]
school we I'm asking that you approve
[54:00]
relocating the ins middle school
[54:03]
students to Williamson high school and
[54:10]
it's out g2g to on your computer to
[54:32]
establish the program for the middle
[54:34]
school students as the Williamson middle
[54:37]
grades up middle grades Preparatory
[54:41]
Academy with the combined enrollment
[54:45]
there'll be eight hundred and thirty
[54:47]
seven students Williamson High School
[54:51]
has a capacity of eleven hundred there
[54:56]
will be a dedicated wing for the middle
[54:59]
school Academy and schedules that will
[55:03]
accommodate both sets of students there
[55:06]
is and I want to repeat there is no plan
[55:10]
to close Williamson high school excuse
[55:15]
me
[55:15]
Williamson high school will remain as
[55:17]
Williamson high school and will contain
[55:20]
middle school grades I would ask that
[55:23]
you approve that do I hear motion
[55:27]
so moved there's a there was a motion
[55:31]
and a second to approve the
[55:32]
superintendent's recommendation I'm
[55:34]
moving Maine's middle school to
[55:36]
Williamson High School to establish the
[55:38]
middle grades Preparatory Academy any
[55:41]
discussion yes that's some discussion
[55:43]
you know I've had comments about this
[55:46]
not only doing this do Surrey that y'all
[55:50]
put in today but only to because I was
[55:54]
only notified about the plans at a
[55:58]
meeting on Friday at Murphy High School
[56:01]
I think it's disrespectful to me as a
[56:03]
commissioner I think it's disrespect for
[56:06]
me as a commissioner because I really
[56:08]
believe that as a redacted official duly
[56:11]
elected official that is my
[56:13]
responsibility to turn talk to it and
[56:16]
work with my constituency to inform them
[56:19]
about issues that affect or impact the
[56:21]
quality of life for them and for their
[56:23]
education I already knew what y'all
[56:26]
we're gonna do today because I already
[56:27]
know the man said but like today to say
[56:30]
it earlier this is not the end this is
[56:32]
not the end and so on Thursday night at
[56:35]
Maine's middle school we're gonna
[56:37]
convene the Town Meeting and we're gonna
[56:39]
get together and we're gonna put
[56:41]
together a plan because while there are
[56:43]
responsibilities for you too as a board
[56:46]
member I think y'all have disrespected
[56:48]
me as a board member because when you
[56:51]
have when you hate the problem at Denton
[56:54]
middle school
[56:55]
y'all had town meetings with your
[56:56]
community so you could discuss the
[56:58]
possibilities of what was happening when
[57:01]
you're handed a brazier you had town
[57:04]
meetings to deal with that but I have
[57:06]
not been afforded the opportunity of the
[57:08]
Commission to exercise my duly elected
[57:10]
four responsibilities and like I said I
[57:13]
came here today with the understanding
[57:15]
of what position I was in and I'm not
[57:17]
prepared to talk anymore because I know
[57:19]
that talking ain't gonna do no good the
[57:22]
superintendent has been on a one-way
[57:24]
road to close means ever since I've been
[57:26]
on the board
[57:27]
she's been on a road to close it because
[57:29]
the several million dollars that was
[57:32]
allocated for means and the 2012 budget
[57:35]
has been taken away there has to be some
[57:38]
lord
[57:39]
that equal opportunities and education
[57:41]
should be for all students we got this
[57:44]
old slogan out here but it starts with
[57:46]
us where does it start with us when we
[57:48]
see the impact of the Hat on the
[57:51]
african-american student in the Mobile
[57:52]
County public school system you could do
[57:54]
what you want to do today and I think
[57:56]
it's the same and disrespectful to me as
[57:59]
a commissioner and I applaud my
[58:00]
colleagues but more importantly though
[58:03]
I'd like to just conclude by saying that
[58:06]
I didn't even come here to talk today
[58:08]
because I already knew what the deal was
[58:10]
I know what I was going to do just like
[58:12]
you know what you're gonna do but at the
[58:14]
st. and old we need to change that was
[58:17]
slowly about this starts with us and
[58:19]
stay that it stopped it who will be wont
[58:21]
to because african-american era commits
[58:26]
african-americans african-americans are
[58:29]
disproportionately represented in this misrepresent so what I have done
[58:35]
I've also made a Conte in anticipation
[58:39]
of what you were going to do today I do
[58:41]
have a chi met with Loretta Lynch last
[58:44]
week when she was in town the United
[58:46]
States Attorney's are turning and then I
[58:50]
have a direct contact to the Department
[58:52]
of Education and we will be filed in the
[58:55]
federal complaint alleging that African
[58:57]
American students because of their race
[59:00]
or via disproportionate impacts about
[59:03]
closing schools and that they have been
[59:05]
denied participation in programs and
[59:09]
school activities as related to federal
[59:12]
funding being involved and see I've been
[59:14]
on this board almost two years now
[59:16]
and miss Peake has always been on a
[59:18]
one-way road to railroad everything I've
[59:21]
done and I've read it on camera
[59:24]
and I'm mad you did but I know about
[59:27]
raising hell they ain't gonna get
[59:28]
nothing done today but I do know one
[59:31]
thing though this is not the end and I'm
[59:33]
not going to fail I think this is
[59:35]
classic racism it's fast
[59:39]
any any further discussion
[59:42]
[Applause]
[59:53]
I will add it's a balance I would like
[59:59]
to add that miss peak is an honorable
[1:00:01]
person I'm making my statement balance I
[1:00:10]
listen to you and you spoke I would like
[1:00:13]
to say though that miss peak and her
[1:00:15]
staff are honorable people and they're
[1:00:17]
trying to do what's best for the
[1:00:19]
students in this particular situation
[1:00:22]
they've all worked hard to do that I
[1:00:25]
think it's unfair to categorize them in
[1:00:29]
a certain manner as you have done but
[1:00:31]
that's my feelings about it any other
[1:00:34]
any further although you have a right to
[1:00:38]
express your opinion I as an elected
[1:00:41]
official have a duty authorized right to
[1:00:43]
express mine too
[1:00:44]
and I am so dissatisfied today because I
[1:00:47]
really feel that the process of in the
[1:00:51]
vertebrae Davis case that were found in
[1:00:53]
1960 streets specifically outlined that
[1:00:57]
the reason why it was far because the
[1:00:59]
African Americans were disproportion
[1:01:01]
they're not getting the equal
[1:01:02]
educational opportunities in the school
[1:01:04]
system you could take means and the
[1:01:07]
reason why I mean is failing because 10
[1:01:10]
years in a row they did nothing to a
[1:01:13]
bird didn't yield you prepare principals
[1:01:17]
and teachers who came to that school
[1:01:19]
system and all set up here come on
[1:01:21]
nobody honorable ain't no honor in this
[1:01:23]
why did he uh if dr. Foster plastic
[1:01:36]
graces that's what the question is you
[1:01:42]
referring to this board that's right
[1:01:47]
all right that's great thank you all
[1:01:50]
right we've had a we've had a motion and
[1:01:55]
a second and discussion all in favor say
[1:01:58]

[1:01:58]

[1:02:20]

[1:02:26]

[1:02:30]
zone transfers are bound to the school
[1:02:33]

[1:02:36]
two semesters chairman sir
[1:02:39]
off emotion every three items 3 through
[1:02:44]
34 second we have a motion and a second
[1:02:50]

[1:02:54]

[1:03:05]

[1:03:11]

[1:03:17]
now and those are the leader in me
[1:03:20]
number 17 and 18 we need to do some more
[1:03:25]
work on that so if we could 17 18 17 and
[1:03:29]
18 okay let my motion exclude item 17
[1:03:32]

[1:06:24]
with the parents rather - these are
[1:06:26]
student explosions and the the inability
[1:06:29]
for them to respond I thought that was
[1:06:32]
just real sad given the magnitude of
[1:06:34]
decisions of the infraction I know
[1:06:38]
something I think we're not doing but it
[1:06:40]
just just really sad to say that many of
[1:06:44]
them that's just not respond to our
[1:06:46]
letter for hearing dr. Crenshaw glad you
[1:06:49]
brought that up because I've noticed
[1:06:50]
that at every meeting that we have these
[1:06:52]
that what there's always seems to be a
[1:06:55]
number of them like that and and and it
[1:06:58]
saddens me to see that they're not
[1:07:00]
involved in that so thank you for
[1:07:01]
bringing that up
[1:07:02]
all right we we have a motion to approve
[1:07:04]
action items I mean student explosions I
[1:07:08]
one through eight and we had do we have
[1:07:12]
a second second okay any further
[1:07:15]
discussion all in favor say aye those opposed motion carries
[1:07:21]
it speak information information ones the usual monthly
[1:07:30]
financial statement to is the mystery
[1:07:34]
science K through five trial that is
[1:07:38]
cost-free and then purchase orders of
[1:07:42]
five thousand dollars in over I am so
[1:07:44]
happy I know now what mystery signs k5
[1:07:46]
trial exactly it's a free pilot force to
[1:07:50]
use in that area so it's good to know
[1:07:53]
that there's no next we'll move to any
[1:07:57]
questions about that gentlemen all right
[1:08:00]
next we'll move to item to any item
[1:08:01]
discussion any old business any board
[1:08:06]
superintendent requests I just wanna
[1:08:09]
remind us super tuna to look into that
[1:08:12]
library situation and mr. Sheffield has
[1:08:19]
and can share information weekend on the
[1:08:22]
condition of the transportation facility
[1:08:25]
I have a opportunity to go over there
[1:08:27]
and see those de lapin
[1:08:28]
buildings and it should be something who
[1:08:30]
I'll be to do to tear those down that's
[1:08:32]
a horrible
[1:08:33]
dr. Crenshaw which ones with those in
[1:08:35]
Whistler okay any other superintendent
[1:08:41]
requests any pending matters mister
[1:08:47]
attorney-client privileges I sent the
[1:08:50]
board for emails a 17th May 18th do I
[1:08:58]
hear a motion in this move that we
[1:09:00]
accept the recommendations of our
[1:09:02]
attorneys second we have a motion in a
[1:09:05]
second to approve the recommendation of
[1:09:07]
our attorneys in these particular cases
[1:09:09]
any further discussion all in favor say
[1:09:12]
aye
[1:09:12]
hi those opposed motion carries mr. peek
[1:09:18]
scheduling of meetings I think I
[1:09:21]
understand from yesterday all of them
[1:09:23]
thank thank you Miss chambers for
[1:09:26]
getting us up-to-date
[1:09:27]
mr. Hecht you've got some information
[1:09:29]
for us that was the and while we're on
[1:09:45]
that I have noticed that many bring this
[1:09:53]
up last time it didn't get a chance to
[1:09:54]
but many of the hearings that we have
[1:09:57]
scheduled and have planned to have mr.
[1:10:02]
hack and his department have efficiently
[1:10:07]
and effectively worked out solutions to
[1:10:10]
those so that those hearings were
[1:10:14]
solutions that were acceptable to both
[1:10:16]
the board and to the employees and that
[1:10:20]
those hearings were not necessary in
[1:10:24]
addition to that I'd want to say that
[1:10:26]
the HR is rounding the corner on doing
[1:10:33]
the kinds of things that when
[1:10:35]
I wish that HR had done and I have in
[1:10:41]
the past criticized HR right things no
[1:10:49]
job in that respect as in the respect of
[1:10:54]
settling the kinds of cases that do not
[1:10:57]
really need to come to the board we
[1:10:59]
appreciate that mistake it will not be a
[1:11:01]
raised mister and I'd also like to
[1:11:06]
concur miss AK it seems like we're
[1:11:08]
moving along in a timely manner now and
[1:11:10]
I appreciate your you and your
[1:11:12]
department's efforts in this comes as
[1:11:17]
close to your making okay all right
