[1:24:57] director of the Tesco Superintendent

[1:24:59] Association. So, first of all, I bring

[1:25:01] greetings from our officers and our

[1:25:02] association. And we want to thank you

[1:25:04] for for your hard work and dedication.

[1:25:07] Things like what you just recognized

[1:25:09] don't happen unless a board is willing

[1:25:12] to take those chances and explore those

[1:25:15] opportunities so that students can have

[1:25:17] great experiences. Um at our summer

[1:25:20] conference every year we recognize our superintendents. We have um a

[1:25:24] recognition for first year

[1:25:25] superintendent as well as other

[1:25:28] longevity. And at this summer's

[1:25:30] conference we um were not able to

[1:25:33] recognize superintendent because she was

[1:25:35] not able to be at our dinner. I think

[1:25:36] she might have had a board meeting. I'm

[1:25:38] not 100% sure. But we do um a challenge

[1:25:42] coin for our first year superintendent

[1:25:44] to welcome them to our association to

[1:25:46] let them know how much we appreciate

[1:25:47] them. And we really do appreciate

[1:25:49] Superintendent Huntsman. She has joined

[1:25:52] our association.

[1:25:54] She has just gotten to know everybody.

[1:25:56] Um she's willing to help. She's willing

[1:25:58] to participate if somebody needs

[1:26:00] anything. She asks, you know, what can I

[1:26:02] do? She's always willing to share the

[1:26:04] great things that are going on up here

[1:26:05] in Park City and have others um learn

[1:26:09] from her. So, we are just so thankful

[1:26:12] that she is part of our association. I

[1:26:14] know that she's a year and a half in

[1:26:15] now, but we [clears throat] did want to

[1:26:17] give her her USASA year 1 challenge

[1:26:22] much we appreciate having her in our

[1:27:17] cages installation, turf and netting are

[1:27:22] get to see, but that's ongoing right

[1:27:24] now. Landscape's going on the back side

[1:27:26] of the baseball and softball fields. Um,

[1:27:30] the parking lot has been uh paved.

[1:27:34] >> Um, partially striped but not completely

[1:27:37] striped. We've still got to get the bus

[1:27:38] lane arrows in and some other stuff over

[1:27:40] there, but that's happening this week as

[1:27:42] well. Um, and then, uh, they are also

[1:27:47] doing the landscape in the parking lot

[1:27:49] and the planters and all the islands

[1:27:51] there and everything that's going on,

[1:27:53] uh, as far as irrigation goes and that

[1:27:55] kind of stuff that goes with the

[1:27:56] landscape there. Um, the trail has been

[1:27:59] paved all the way from the tunnel all

[1:28:01] the way over the do. I walked over here

[1:28:03] from there tonight. That's uh, how I got

[1:28:06] here. Uh, so that's pretty nice. Um, the

[1:28:09] team rooms are just being finished being

[1:28:12] painted. All of the soft and fascia on

[1:28:14] there. Um, that's the support room down

[1:28:16] there's the team rooms for the softball

[1:28:18] and baseball. Um, that's done. The

[1:28:21] concessions building, they're doing all

[1:28:23] the finishing touches in there. All the

[1:28:24] tiles going in, all the ceilings are

[1:28:26] getting done. All the fixtures are being

[1:28:28] put on. Um,

[1:28:31] the turf on the baseball field is done.

[1:28:34] Um they are going to be doing infill for

[1:28:36] the next two days. Um which is all the

[1:28:38] sand and the rubber and everything else.

[1:28:40] But they're the home plate. Um and I

[1:28:43] left there oh I don't know four but they

[1:28:46] should have had the rest of it. They had

[1:28:47] it down. They were just cutting the

[1:28:48] other pieces in. So uh their plan is to

[1:28:51] move to the south soccer field on

[1:28:55] Monday.

[1:28:56] The north soccerfield has to remain open

[1:28:58] right now because we where those two

[1:29:00] crest boxes are in the bleachers in the

[1:29:02] middle in the center. There's a press

[1:29:04] box that goes there and the footing has

[1:29:06] to be poured for it. So, uh, the south

[1:29:10] is the one the one that's ready right

[1:29:12] now. So, that's why they're going to

[1:29:13] move there. They do tell me that those

[1:29:15] go pretty fast because they're basically

[1:29:16] a box, right? They roll them out where

[1:29:19] they have a little bit more to deal with

[1:29:20] in the other fields. So, um, so they'll

[1:29:24] move there. They said the turf will go

[1:29:26] down fast. Then they got another week or

[1:29:27] two, you know, uh, cutting everything in

[1:29:29] and doing all that stuff. So, within two

[1:29:31] weeks, I would say we probably see both

[1:29:33] of those fields. The south one for sure

[1:29:36] done. North one's going to take a little

[1:29:37] bit longer because of the pad, but that

[1:29:40] should go fairly quick, too. So, um, the

[1:29:42] support building is uh, in roughin, so

[1:29:46] we've got the roof on it. Um, all the

[1:29:49] mechanical equipment's up there. They're

[1:29:51] inside plumbing all everything, putting

[1:29:52] in the HVC, HVAC, and everything else.

[1:29:56] And then the big stuff is the site

[1:29:58] concrete. I'd say we're about 90% done

[1:30:00] with the sight concrete. Mostly what's

[1:30:02] the plaza's done. There's a couple

[1:30:04] tie-in spots around the baseball field.

[1:30:07] Uh, and then on the far north end of the

[1:30:08] baseball field. Um, and then we the

[1:30:13] what's lacking right now is the tennis

[1:30:14] courts, right? We have a lot of stuff

[1:30:16] stored over where the tennis courts go.

[1:30:18] Um, but within the next week, probably

[1:30:20] next week, you'll start to see all that

[1:30:22] move. Our last soils pile we have over

[1:30:24] there is actually going into the tennis

[1:30:26] courts. That's been tested and then

[1:30:28] that's getting graded out there where

[1:30:30] the tennis courts are. All the sight

[1:30:32] lighting's up. They're doing the parking

[1:30:33] lot this week. They're sitting the holes

[1:30:35] in the parking lot. Um,

[1:30:38] let's see what else I have there. Uh,

[1:30:42] the utilities are all in except for the

[1:30:44] power. So, we have the gas, the sewer,

[1:30:46] the water in. The power is going in

[1:30:48] Saturday. Uh I don't know you guys are

[1:30:51] this is you know Rocky Mountain Power

[1:30:54] will notify you guys but the power will

[1:30:55] be out here Saturday. So why they're

[1:30:57] doing this right? So on campus from all

[1:31:00] the way over to McFolan it'll all be

[1:31:02] out. So they said they'll be done by the

[1:31:04] end of the day. So but that'll be power

[1:31:06] and they should be sending you guys a

[1:31:08] notice you know. So and I told Joe so he

[1:31:10] knows it's aware of that. So, um, and

[1:31:14] that's really kind of it over there at,

[1:31:17] uh, Treasure. There's still tracking for

[1:31:20] the end of October. The tennis court

[1:31:22] guys are are ready to go to work. They

[1:31:24] just need that graded out. So, uh, there

[1:31:27] should be a delay with getting the

[1:31:29] tennis courts in. The time will be in

[1:31:31] the tearing of the concrete, right, and

[1:31:32] the coating. So, that'll probably be the

[1:31:34] last thing done that you'll see down

[1:31:36] over there. But I would say overall

[1:31:40] probably about 85% there without the

[1:31:42] turf on the two soccer fields. But all

[1:31:44] of it's there. We do still have some

[1:31:46] other stuff coming.

[1:31:47] >> If we have snow, keep fingers crossed

[1:31:50] before October. How will that delay

[1:31:52] this? Will it?

[1:31:54] >> It shouldn't. It shouldn't delay too

[1:31:56] much, especially the concrete. I mean,

[1:31:57] they can blank the concrete and stuff

[1:31:59] like that if they have to, but it' have

[1:32:01] to be sustaining like freezing

[1:32:02] temperatures. You know what I mean? We

[1:32:04] could weather a storm or two. Clearly,

[1:32:06] we have with these rainstorms as well,

[1:32:08] too. That's been causing us a little bit

[1:32:10] of grief on some of the finish of the

[1:32:12] track and the finish on the bleachers.

[1:32:14] Uh, but if you wait 15 minutes, they

[1:32:17] tend to blow over, but they do cause

[1:32:19] some a little bit of problem, but I

[1:32:21] think it'll be fine. So, I I would

[1:32:23] anticipate by the middle of September,

[1:32:25] most of the turf would be down. So, it

[1:32:27] would just be the concrete of that. So,

[1:32:30] >> power you said will be out. That's just

[1:32:33] not neighborhoods. No neighborhoods,

[1:32:35] just uh the campus from the DO to

[1:32:39] probably the other side of McFoland. I

[1:32:40] don't think it'll affect the high school

[1:32:42] at all, but it' be the learning center

[1:32:44] as well. That'll all be out until they

[1:32:46] get it in. So,

[1:32:47] >> how confident are we are are we that it

[1:32:50] won't impact the high school?

[1:32:51] >> I checked with them today before I came

[1:32:53] over here and they said no at the high

[1:32:55] school. So, it's all on a different

[1:32:58] separate

[1:32:58] >> problem just to plan to not have that

[1:33:00] hour on Saturday.

[1:33:02] Is it going to be the whole day?

[1:33:07] >> When we built Mcullins, we upgraded the

[1:33:08] power there. Would have known we were

[1:33:10] doing this. We could have done all that

[1:33:11] at the same time, but we didn't, right?

[1:33:14] So, they have to upgrade all that power.

[1:33:20] >> go ahead. I was just going to say it's

[1:33:21] kind of it's kind of interesting because

[1:33:23] everything's LED over there, right? And

[1:33:25] even these big the the tall sight lights

[1:33:27] don't draw that much power. I asked him

[1:33:29] that, but they had to. They're taking

[1:33:31] the chance. I don't know if you know, we

[1:33:32] hit when we hit the transformer there

[1:33:34] that's in the first corner there where

[1:33:36] you turn into the parking lot. That was

[1:33:38] that has to be moved as well. And then

[1:33:40] the one that's in front of Mc Pole has

[1:33:42] to be redone because it's so old. And so

[1:33:44] they're taking the time to kind of

[1:33:45] upgrade their little stuff while they're

[1:33:46] do. So

[1:33:49] >> my quick question is just about the burm

[1:33:52] that kind of runs along.

[1:33:54] >> Yes. About the shape of it.

[1:33:56] >> Yes. Right here. Right there. They're

[1:33:58] going to cut a saddle in that as they're

[1:34:00] doing it. So, we we keep having weekly

[1:34:02] inspections from DEEQ and

[1:34:06] >> despite my differing of opinions that we

[1:34:08] need to cover everything, then it's been

[1:34:09] tested and it's passed its tests and

[1:34:11] we're we still have to maintain the

[1:34:13] cover on that. So, it's difficult unless

[1:34:15] you're going to do it all in one shot to

[1:34:16] kind of shape it and then cover it and

[1:34:18] everything else. And the landscapers are

[1:34:20] working their way that way. So I would

[1:34:22] say two weeks you might start to see

[1:34:24] that saddle cut in there and we're going

[1:34:26] to kind of bowl it out at the bottom. So

[1:34:28] we have more snow put place to push some

[1:34:31] >> and be sed.

[1:34:33] >> It gets sold. Yes. Yeah. And there'll be

[1:34:35] a few trees and some plants along the

[1:34:36] back there. But they're they're going

[1:34:38] hot heavy on the irrigation now and and

[1:34:40] then they'll start spreading that top

[1:34:41] soil. So they're trying to c play

[1:34:44] catchup in the parking lot too. Like I

[1:34:46] said, getting all the planters in there

[1:34:47] because they don't want to box

[1:34:49] themselves out. So

[1:34:52] that's pretty much it for treasure. So I

[1:34:54] don't have much more there. Um they're

[1:34:57] still like I said they're still tracking

[1:34:58] end of October. I do think that the

[1:35:00] tennis courts will bleed into November

[1:35:02] depending on how quickly they get

[1:35:04] imported and how quickly they get they

[1:35:06] cure up and then and then the coating

[1:35:08] obviously. Um Doure is in great shape.

[1:35:13] Uh the entrance gateway buildings on the

[1:35:15] east side there are all completed.

[1:35:17] File's done, partitions are in, power's

[1:35:20] on, everything's done there. Um the uh m

[1:35:24] the steel for the canopy is on site. Um

[1:35:29] it got there this morning, so they're

[1:35:31] going to try to start erecting the

[1:35:32] columns and getting part of that

[1:35:33] partially in place uh this week and then

[1:35:36] next week. The visitors bleachers are

[1:35:38] coming this week. So you'll start seeing

[1:35:40] that. They are coating the track.

[1:35:43] They've got first coat on in they're

[1:35:45] doing it in sections which I don't

[1:35:46] understand but that's that's their deal.

[1:35:48] Uh but you if you ever go over there

[1:35:50] you'll see that that first coat on

[1:35:51] there. It's kind of black. I think I

[1:35:53] have some pictures uh here that kind of

[1:35:56] Oops.

[1:35:58] There's the baseball field.

[1:36:01] So, and that was from yesterday, not

[1:36:02] today. So, that they've got they're past

[1:36:05] home plate now in into the back. So, and

[1:36:08] then that's the soccer fields. They're

[1:36:10] just finishing the fine grading on

[1:36:12] those. So they're ready to go and then

[1:36:14] that's them coding the track and then

[1:36:17] build.

[1:36:18] So they also this is from yesterday but

[1:36:21] they now have set the upper section of

[1:36:23] pre-cast. So that's something you know

[1:36:25] this isn't isn't current to what's

[1:36:26] happened today but where that still

[1:36:28] comes up. So there's another level of

[1:36:30] seating that goes up and then you have

[1:36:32] the press box there in the middle. I

[1:36:34] know it's kind of hard to to understand

[1:36:35] or see that picture there, but they

[1:36:37] they're setting all of that upper

[1:36:39] pre-cast this week. And then they put

[1:36:42] the stairs in, too. So, all that's going

[1:36:44] and they've coated they're coating on

[1:36:46] the north side of the bleachers. Uh that

[1:36:49] side's done. So, um he's working his way

[1:36:52] across that lower section of seating.

[1:36:54] Then he'll move up to the upper section

[1:36:56] of seating. Um he's affected by the rain

[1:36:59] a lot, right? So, like he pulled off a

[1:37:02] little bit this afternoon because of the

[1:37:03] rain. Uh, and it affects the track and

[1:37:06] those guys pulled off for a little

[1:37:07] while, too. But they when they're

[1:37:09] putting stuff down, if it's a little bit

[1:37:11] tacky, they're okay. But if they're just

[1:37:12] started, then they got to stop. But I

[1:37:14] think we're we'll work our way through

[1:37:16] that. So, um, but the ramp on the on the

[1:37:20] south end is done up to the bleachers.

[1:37:22] They got a little section there to do.

[1:37:24] The planters in the back are done. All

[1:37:26] the garden level bathrooms, that

[1:37:27] building's all done in the back. They'll

[1:37:29] put the roof on that next week. The

[1:37:31] concessions, the uh flex space on the

[1:37:34] north and south sides of the stadium on

[1:37:36] the second level, those are all framed

[1:37:38] in. They're putting the finishes in

[1:37:40] there now. They're going to start some

[1:37:41] of the drywall in there. Uh they're just

[1:37:44] finishing up that MEP in there. Inside

[1:37:46] the bleachers themselves um is all of

[1:37:50] the mechanical and electrical and all

[1:37:51] the roughing going inside there. That's

[1:37:54] it. It's quite a space in there and

[1:37:56] there's a lot going on inside there. You

[1:37:58] don't see them obviously because they're

[1:37:59] inside there, but that's that's ongoing.

[1:38:02] Um, all of the utilities here are done

[1:38:06] as well except on this west side. The

[1:38:09] gas is at the property line. If you

[1:38:11] remember, we were going to take it out

[1:38:13] of Lucky Jump, but we're not. So, they

[1:38:15] won't connect onto it until the

[1:38:17] bleachers are close to being done

[1:38:19] because they don't want their meter

[1:38:20] getting hit and having problems. So,

[1:38:22] that's that'll have to wait a little

[1:38:23] bit. And then we're making the final

[1:38:25] water connection that's on that north

[1:38:26] end. Again, that was coming out of Lucky

[1:38:29] John. They hot tapped it today and

[1:38:31] that's coming across that uh north end

[1:38:35] uh from uh west to east. So, or from

[1:38:38] east to west. So, they started that

[1:38:40] today. That that ends the utilities

[1:38:42] there. We have power uh on at everything

[1:38:45] and even at the uh home bleachers. So

[1:38:49] they built they partially built the

[1:38:51] electrical room up there on the second

[1:38:52] level. This is in in for the game,

[1:38:55] right? So we have lights, everything

[1:38:56] else. They'll be going through the

[1:38:59] scoreboard and the upgraded sound system

[1:39:01] this week as well and the next week.

[1:39:03] Giving that a couple trial runs. So you

[1:39:05] may hear some loud music coming from

[1:39:07] over there. But that uh that's ongoing.

[1:39:10] A lot of this stuff is in preparation.

[1:39:12] and they're pouring the rest of the

[1:39:14] concrete uh up against the track there

[1:39:17] on the east side or that entrance. The

[1:39:20] entrance way is done going into the uh

[1:39:23] through the canopy into the field now.

[1:39:25] There's couple seat walls in there. Um

[1:39:28] they'll pour they'll get those columns

[1:39:29] up and then pour the rest of that around

[1:39:31] the columns, but they poured along all

[1:39:32] those buildings today and down to the

[1:39:35] visitor bleachers pad. So um those are

[1:39:38] in pretty good shape. So, I don't

[1:39:41] believe the upper section of the home

[1:39:44] bleachers would be available for the

[1:39:45] game, but the lower section will be

[1:39:47] available. So,

[1:39:51] and they're tracking end of October as

[1:39:53] well. So,

[1:39:57] um obviously at this point timeline has

[1:40:01] become an issue.

[1:40:02] >> Uh you said October for both of them,

[1:40:05] but that's three months behind where it

[1:40:07] should have been. What are our risks in

[1:40:09] hitting North?

[1:40:11] >> Um I the weather's obviously the big

[1:40:14] one, right? If we get into we don't get

[1:40:16] lucky and have a weird or whichever way

[1:40:19] you prefer to look at that. But if we if

[1:40:22] we have winter, you guys know as well as

[1:40:24] I do it snow in September, October,

[1:40:26] November, right? So that's probably the

[1:40:28] biggest thing I would say is the

[1:40:29] weather, right? Getting all the things

[1:40:31] done that need to need to happen before

[1:40:33] it starts to sustain cold temperatures,

[1:40:35] right? So, I don't see how they wouldn't

[1:40:37] have the track done. Um, they've they've

[1:40:40] really put an effort in on getting that

[1:40:41] coated uh once that first coat starts.

[1:40:44] It's just I mean it they really are

[1:40:46] making pretty good progress on that.

[1:40:47] Same with the bleachers other than he's

[1:40:50] a little more sensitive to the rain. So,

[1:40:52] uh but I can't see where they wouldn't

[1:40:54] be done with those out of most of the

[1:40:56] weather rain window anyways. So,

[1:41:01] that's probably the biggest thing. So,

[1:41:06] I can tell you JD's pushing him not to

[1:41:08] get in his personal life, but he was he had to vacate from his own during

[1:41:14] a fire. Went back in. I'll tell you, he

[1:41:16] didn't miss a beat. He was here every

[1:41:18] day. He was working on it every day. Uh

[1:41:20] we thought he'd be gone for four or five

[1:41:22] days and maybe now he wishes he would

[1:41:24] have been, but

[1:41:26] he was he

[1:41:28] >> Well, there was my marriage and then

[1:41:29] there was this.

[1:41:31] >> Yeah. True lie isn't on any

[1:41:36] >> my wife's dog doesn't like me. So being

[1:41:38] pulled up with a dog for five days.

[1:41:41] >> No, it was it was it was uh it was a

[1:41:45] challenge. I will tell you that. But

[1:41:46] it's very it was disruptive is what it

[1:41:48] was most.

[1:41:51] >> What about schools having to move?

[1:41:52] >> What's that?

[1:41:53] >> Was your house okay?

[1:41:54] >> Yeah, it's probably about a mile and a

[1:41:56] half. I show pulled some pictures

[1:41:57] earlier. You know, I the heel I live on

[1:42:00] West Center Road, so the heel right

[1:42:01] behind me is what was on fire. And

[1:42:03] >> because it's so steep, I can only see

[1:42:05] kind of out of my driveway. In fact, I

[1:42:06] sent Randy a picture that the other day

[1:42:08] and I don't think I sent it to you, but

[1:42:10] all I could see was what was directly

[1:42:12] behind me. And so it was just all the

[1:42:13] smoke and I thought, you know, I mean,

[1:42:15] it looked right was right on top of me,

[1:42:17] right? But then you drive down the road

[1:42:19] and it's quite a ways away, but it's

[1:42:21] just enough to, you know, it scares

[1:42:23] everybody in the family and all that

[1:42:25] stuff. So, it's just a challenge. So

[1:42:27] >> I think our biggest impact to answer

[1:42:29] your question is football girls soccer

[1:42:31] is playing out at Queens.

[1:42:33] >> Oh yeah.

[1:42:33] >> Currently. So football has the biggest

[1:42:36] impact with the delay.

[1:42:39] >> But you reference seating where I mean

[1:42:41] are we

[1:42:42] >> Yeah. I think I mean the plan is to have

[1:42:43] the September 11th game there. The

[1:42:45] seating will be there. I don't know. You

[1:42:55] going to try to get over there, but the

[1:42:56] coating has to go down first before the

[1:43:01] little bit of a change there just so

[1:43:02] that you know we beefed up the

[1:43:04] waterproofing of that. So all of your

[1:43:06] rooms are underneath that, right? Your

[1:43:07] team rooms, all your meeting rooms, the

[1:43:09] bathrooms and everything. And so it had

[1:43:12] kind of had a subroof system before that

[1:43:14] was going to catch that if there was

[1:43:15] anything coming through. And we decided

[1:43:17] to beef that up so we didn't have that

[1:43:19] subroof and all that under structure

[1:43:21] underneath it. And so that's take that's

[1:43:23] the coating, right? That's what's taking

[1:43:25] a little bit of time. That goes down and

[1:43:27] then they put the the aluminum bleachers

[1:43:29] on top of that. So you'd be setting on

[1:43:31] the concrete most likely, but the

[1:43:33] visitor bleachers would be in this. The

[1:43:35] power was the big one. The power we'd

[1:43:37] have powered all the lights and the

[1:43:38] sound system and everything else. Um,

[1:43:41] and then I think we've worked out uh the

[1:43:44] media press stuff and the play calling

[1:43:46] and all that stuff. So I think we're I

[1:43:48] think we're pretty solid. So what date

[1:43:50] were we playing?

[1:43:52] September 11th.

[1:43:55] Summit High School, neutral sight. We

[1:43:57] are playing against Morgan High School

[1:43:58] and then the next home game is scheduled

[1:44:26] back a couple times, but the field's

[1:44:27] available.

[1:45:39] front of the buildings there where it's

[1:45:41] fenced off, but the other parking lots

[1:45:48] there. Most of them are handicapped

[1:46:13] field, that's all done as well. We do

[1:46:15] have the north end to for the for the uh

[1:46:18] water line right now, but everything

[1:46:20] else is done in there. All the planners,

[1:47:41] Good evening. My name is Phoebe Buyers.

[1:47:43] I want to share some thoughts on open

[1:47:44] space and why it belongs in front of a

[1:47:46] schoolboard. Open space is scenery but

[1:47:49] also infrastructure. It is where

[1:47:51] neighbors meet, where families spend

[1:47:53] their weekends, and where children learn

[1:47:55] to be outside on their own. For

[1:47:56] children, the effect is measurable. Two

[1:47:59] studies in the proceedings of the

[1:48:01] National Academy of Sciences make the

[1:48:03] point. The first tracked primary school

[1:48:05] children over a full year and found that

[1:48:07] greater exposure to green space was

[1:48:09] associated with gains in working memory

[1:48:11] and reductions in inattentiveness.

[1:48:13] I see this in my own children and I

[1:48:15] suspect most parents in this room do

[1:48:17] too. The second followed more than

[1:48:19] 900,000 people and felt that children

[1:48:22] who grew up with the least green space

[1:48:24] around them carried up to a 55% higher

[1:48:26] risk of developing the psychiatric

[1:48:28] disorder later in life. The health

[1:48:30] picture is simpler than the research

[1:48:32] makes it sound. Children who live near

[1:48:34] open land move more, spend more time

[1:48:36] outside, and encounter wildlife as an

[1:48:39] ordinary part of growing up. That land

[1:48:41] is also somebody's home. Children who

[1:48:43] grow up alongside elk, deer, and the

[1:48:45] moose learn something the classroom

[1:48:47] cannot teach them, which is that they

[1:48:49] live inside a web of life rather than

[1:48:51] above it. A developed site can be made

[1:48:53] green again. It cannot be made wild

[1:48:55] again. Importantly, this research was

[1:48:58] not measuring how much open space

[1:48:59] existed somewhere in the region. It

[1:49:02] looked at the nature children

[1:49:03] encountered around their homes, their

[1:49:04] schools, and their daily lives. That

[1:49:06] matters here. Summit County has an

[1:49:09] abundance of open space and it is here

[1:49:11] because residents value it and have

[1:49:13] worked for years to protect it. That is

[1:49:15] not a reason to assume we can afford to

[1:49:17] lose some. It is a reason to recognize

[1:49:19] what that work built. Communities rarely

[1:49:22] lose open space all at once. They lose

[1:49:24] it one reasonable sounding parcel at a

[1:49:26] time with each individual decision

[1:49:28] defensible on its own. Some of the land

[1:49:31] this district owns sits right at the

[1:49:33] edge of that landscape where the trails

[1:49:35] meet the neighborhoods. Students,

[1:49:37] teachers, and families run, bike, ski,

[1:49:39] and walk there. They reach it on foot

[1:49:41] without getting into a car. Most

[1:49:43] decisions like this one arrive too late.

[1:49:46] This one has not. The land is

[1:49:47] undeveloped, and almost,00 residents,

[1:49:50] nearly 96 96% of them in Sim County,

[1:49:53] have already asked that it stayed that

[1:49:55] way. Preservation belongs on the table

[1:49:58] alongside every other option. Show the

[1:50:00] community the district's other land

[1:50:01] buildings. Ask whether a site is right

[1:50:04] before entertaining work can be built on

[1:50:05] it. Round Valley was once slated to

[1:50:08] become a 690 acre golf course community

[1:50:10] with the commercial center, a boutique

[1:50:12] hotel, and 600 homes. It is open today

[1:50:15] because an earlier generation had the

[1:50:17] foresight to protect it before it was

[1:50:18] too late. The 55 acres this district

[1:50:21] owns at the Highland Drive trail head

[1:50:23] sits at its edge gave that decision the

[1:50:25] same care. Thank you.

[1:51:29] My name is Michael Santa Rosa. I'm the

[1:51:31] line coordinator here at Park City

[1:51:32] School District. With me today, I have

[1:51:34] Mr. David Fasler, who is a current

[1:51:36] assistant athletic director over at the

[1:51:38] high school. Uh Mr. Sheets, our athletic

[1:51:41] director, is actually finishing up a

[1:51:43] walk throughout South Summit to help

[1:51:45] host our first home game against a

[1:51:48] Morgan, otherwise he'd be here, so he

[1:51:50] sent me instead. Um uh I'm here uh today

[1:51:54] because of Utah law 53G-6-101

[1:51:58] entitled report action plan which was a

[1:52:01] law enacted in Utah 3 years ago that

[1:52:04] requires at the beginning of each

[1:52:05] academic year the athletic director or

[1:52:08] another administrator of each school

[1:52:10] shall report to our local school uh

[1:52:12] governing board uh a number of things

[1:52:14] and they're listed here on our report.

[1:52:17] Um typically uh specifically the number

[1:52:20] and type of intercolastic sports

[1:52:22] available at our school categorized by

[1:52:25] gender designation.

[1:52:27] The number of students competing in a

[1:52:28] gender designated intercolastic sport at

[1:52:31] the school also categorized by gender.

[1:52:34] The amount of spending that the school

[1:52:35] devotes to each gender designated

[1:52:37] intercolastic sport at the school

[1:52:39] categorized by gender. a comparison and

[1:52:42] evaluation of our designated practice

[1:52:43] and game locations for each of the uh

[1:52:46] gender designated interclastic sports

[1:52:48] and any information regarding the

[1:52:50] school's efforts in compliance with

[1:52:51] title 63G chapter 31 part two

[1:52:55] distinctions on the basis of set sex

[1:52:57] sets which is codified as title 9 and if

[1:53:00] there is any discrepancy between the

[1:53:02] [clears throat] male designated and

[1:53:03] female designated sports of 10% or

[1:53:06] greater an action plan that the school

[1:53:08] develops to uh address the discrepancy

[1:53:11] Well, uh much similar to last year,

[1:53:13] these numbers are consistent with last

[1:53:15] year's data and proportions.

[1:53:18] Uh to note, our coaches pay was

[1:53:20] increased over these last uh past two

[1:53:23] years. We did have some coaching

[1:53:25] positions that weren't filled

[1:53:26] completely, but as you know, Park City

[1:53:28] can be a difficult place to find coaches

[1:53:30] from time to time. Um and please note

[1:53:34] that our male and female teams have the

[1:53:35] same number of coaching positions for

[1:53:37] each sport. Um, as mentioned earlier,

[1:53:41] you can see the progress here for our

[1:53:42] softball and baseball facilities. Uh,

[1:53:45] this will provide more opportunities for

[1:53:47] our home games and practices with less

[1:53:49] travel time for our student athletes.

[1:53:52] Um, to note also women's flag football

[1:53:55] was added at the high school this last

[1:53:56] year, but it's a club level sport uh and

[1:53:59] not part of this reporting requirement.

[1:54:02] Also, esports uh was added as a co-ed

[1:54:05] offering as well. Uh sports have been

[1:54:08] also offered at Eker Hill Middle School

[1:54:09] starting last year uh to include

[1:54:11] basketball and handball and cross

[1:54:13] country and soccer will be added this

[1:54:15] particular school year. Um so our

[1:54:18] discrepancy between male designated

[1:54:20] sports is at 47.6%

[1:54:23] and female designated at 52.4%

[1:54:26] sports currently shows that we have just

[1:54:29] a 4.8% in favor of female sports here at

[1:54:33] Park City School District. Any

[1:54:35] questions?

[1:55:17] available for athletes.

[1:56:28] afternoon. I was supposed to be here in

[1:56:31] June. I did not have a fire, but we had

[1:56:33] a flood and so that's why I was not

[1:56:35] here. Also needed to be vacated. A lot

[1:56:38] of house vacations this year, not good

[1:56:41] ones. Um really appreciate our

[1:56:43] partnership and just wanted to report to

[1:56:45] you all on our work from last school

[1:56:47] year and a little bit about the work

[1:56:49] that we'll be doing this year.

[1:56:55] I think most of you know who we are, but

[1:56:57] just um for those who don't, uh we're an

[1:56:59] independent nonprofit organization. We

[1:57:02] exist to fund and support

[1:57:03] educatorpowered initiatives that inspire

[1:57:05] all brick city students to reach their

[1:57:07] academic and lifelong potential. And on

[1:57:10] an exciting note, we've been doing this

[1:57:11] work for 40 years. This is our 40th

[1:57:13] anniversary uh as an organization. We

[1:57:16] were founded back in 1986 by a group of

[1:57:18] parents and educators who wanted to

[1:57:21] infuse incredible funds into our

[1:57:23] schools. And so we're excited to

[1:57:25] celebrate that milestone this year.

[1:57:29] During our last strategic planning

[1:57:32] process back in 2024 2025 school year,

[1:57:35] uh we refined our funding priorities to

[1:57:38] four areas that if you notice closely

[1:57:41] align with the school district's

[1:57:43] priorities and portrait of a graduate.

[1:57:45] Um these are four current funding

[1:57:48] priorities. So closing the opportunity

[1:57:50] gap, elevating educators, um

[1:57:52] personalized learning and real world

[1:57:54] learning. And so every program that we

[1:57:56] fund needs to support at least one or

[1:57:59] more of these uh focus areas. And we'll

[1:58:02] talk a little bit more about those

[1:58:03] specific programs in a couple minutes.

[1:58:08] Um we make uh our funds we how we fund

[1:58:12] uh is through grants and we have four

[1:58:14] different categories of grants. So

[1:58:16] express classroom grants uh classroom

[1:58:19] grants, innovation grants and sustaining

[1:58:20] grants. So, our express classroom grants

[1:58:23] and our classroom grants go directly to

[1:58:25] support classroom teachers and those um

[1:58:29] vary in size. So, our express classroom

[1:58:32] grants are up to $2,000 per award and

[1:58:35] teachers can start asking for those

[1:58:37] funds from the very first day they're

[1:58:39] back on contract all the way till the

[1:58:41] end of the school year. Our classroom

[1:58:43] grants are a little bit larger in size,

[1:58:45] but we have those on an annual basis. So

[1:58:47] teachers request those funds in the

[1:58:50] spring for funding the following school

[1:58:52] year. Um and uh that is an amazing

[1:58:56] process we Lindsay used to um spearhead

[1:58:58] as classroom grant chair and um it's all

[1:59:02] educators and students uh who sit on

[1:59:04] that committee and make the decisions

[1:59:06] about where funding gets awarded. And

[1:59:10] then our innovation grants and

[1:59:11] sustaining grants um are available at a

[1:59:14] school level or a district level um for

[1:59:16] larger scale programs. Um innovation

[1:59:19] grants are are new for us. This also

[1:59:21] came out of our strategic planning

[1:59:23] process. We saw a need to be more

[1:59:26] flexible and responsive to larger scale

[1:59:28] requests from the district. And so we

[1:59:32] have uh allocated this year $225,000

[1:59:35] to award throughout the year. as

[1:59:37] requests come in. Our board will be

[1:59:39] considering the first request um this

[1:59:42] Thursday at our first board meeting of

[1:59:43] the year. Um and then sustaining grants

[1:59:46] are multi-year. So we have a lot of you

[1:59:49] know programs that we've been funding

[1:59:51] for a number of years that are I would

[1:59:53] say integral to the the work that's

[1:59:55] going on in the school district and work

[1:59:56] that we care about as an organization.

[1:59:59] And so um we uh award these on a

[2:00:02] recurring basis. Um this is an example

[2:00:04] of this is the after school program to

[2:00:06] support in a meaningful way.

[2:00:11] Okay. Um so going back to kind of our four areas and where programs that

[2:00:16] we fund fit into each one. I wanted to

[2:00:20] um call out a couple of ones in bold.

[2:00:22] It's a little hard to bold but uh that

[2:00:24] are either new or evolved. This year

[2:00:26] we're starting an educator task force

[2:00:28] and this is a group of about 12 teachers

[2:00:30] from every school u represented that

[2:00:33] will um you know infuse educator voice

[2:00:36] into the work we do. We have a hard time

[2:00:39] having educators in our board given when

[2:00:41] we meet it's during the school day. We

[2:00:42] don't want to take teachers out of

[2:00:43] classes and we still need a lot of their

[2:00:46] feedback on what we're doing and how to

[2:00:47] improve um personalized learning. So

[2:00:50] this year we're supporting with the

[2:00:52] elementary LS sorry LCSSW position um so

[2:00:57] that every elementary school has its own

[2:01:00] LCSSW and the district is also uh

[2:01:03] supporting that. So thank you. That's

[2:01:04] incredibly important. The freshman

[2:01:07] success coordinator is a new role this

[2:01:09] year that's supporting with that

[2:01:11] transition from 8th grade to 9th grade

[2:01:13] which we know is a tricky one for

[2:01:14] students.

[2:01:16] And then we've been funding the

[2:01:18] elementary visual arts program for a

[2:01:20] really long time. And this year, for the

[2:01:22] first time, the district's taking that

[2:01:24] kind of over and integrating that into

[2:01:26] the academic day in a more meaningful

[2:01:28] way um than we've been able to do in the

[2:01:30] past. And we're really excited about

[2:01:32] that um that change and that integration

[2:01:35] into the academics at every elementary

[2:01:38] school, which is also a shift. Um this

[2:01:40] is going to be at every single

[2:01:41] elementary school for the first time.

[2:01:44] So, thank you for that change.

[2:01:48] >> Oh, no. I don't know what happened to

[2:01:52] Um, last year we invested $1.8 million

[2:01:56] into uh the district. I don't know. I

[2:01:59] don't not sure what that is. Um and uh

[2:02:03] we also supported our PTO's PTAs um

[2:02:06] through $41,000 that went back to the

[2:02:09] schools uh through you know different

[2:02:11] awards and and fundraisers and their

[2:02:13] support there. So um appreciate that

[2:02:16] partnership very much with OPTO's.

[2:02:20] [clears throat]

[2:02:21] And then this year as we think about um

[2:02:24] I'm sorry last year as we think about

[2:02:26] where we supported uh early and out of

[2:02:29] school learning opportunities. So

[2:02:31] significant amount of our support um

[2:02:33] goes to sport preschool as well as the

[2:02:34] afterchool program. Really thrilled to

[2:02:36] see the expansion uh of both programs by

[2:02:39] offering full day to three both three

[2:02:42] and four-year-olds and then the

[2:02:43] afterchool program for preschoolers. I

[2:02:45] think that really supported the

[2:02:47] enrollment expansion that we saw. Um and

[2:02:50] it's it's exciting to see how many

[2:02:52] students 288 um enrolled for preschool,

[2:02:55] 600 um uh for after school last year,

[2:02:59] which was um I think the largest

[2:03:02] class of students I've started in the

[2:03:04] program.

[2:03:07] Um last year was also the first year of

[2:03:09] our expanded Bright Futures program um

[2:03:12] from the high school. So, we fully

[2:03:13] funded a position, the Bright Futures

[2:03:16] Counselor position, which embedded that

[2:03:17] first generation support directly into

[2:03:20] the counseling team at the high school.

[2:03:22] Um, and it also expanded access to every

[2:03:25] firstgen student starting in freshman

[2:03:27] year. Um, so we really saw kind of the

[2:03:30] power of the partnership and the belief

[2:03:31] in every student's potential in this

[2:03:34] expansion. uh the firstgen students

[2:03:36] within this um most recent senior year

[2:03:39] class had a 36% increase in college

[2:03:42] metriculation as compared to the class

[2:03:45] of 2025 and every graduate had a plan.

[2:03:48] So whether that was you know college

[2:03:51] workforce military our um Pepper Elliot

[2:03:54] who's incredible really ensured that

[2:03:56] every student knew what they were doing

[2:03:58] post high school and had that

[2:04:00] intentional plan. uh we supported 233

[2:04:04] students last year which was 133% growth

[2:04:07] in that program's participation and I

[2:04:10] just want to call out the um again

[2:04:13] partnership with Pepper the dream big

[2:04:15] program at the high school all of the

[2:04:17] high school teachers this cannot happen

[2:04:18] without all of those people working

[2:04:20] together toward this goal so really

[2:04:23] appreciative of of all the work going on

[2:04:25] at the high school.

[2:04:29] We also uh want to talk about our

[2:04:31] classroom grant program. It's a huge uh

[2:04:33] program for us and how we got started.

[2:04:35] Um we awarded $270,000 last year in

[2:04:39] classroom grants for educator projects.

[2:04:42] Uh just a few of those pull and

[2:04:44] [clears throat] musical Finding Nemo.

[2:04:45] Such a fun uh joyful experience for so

[2:04:48] many kids. Um the RC league and EV

[2:04:52] showcase that happened at our elementary

[2:04:54] schools. Music programs at Eer and High

[2:04:56] School are a big part of our funding.

[2:04:58] special ed support. um the technology

[2:05:01] student association aquaponics project

[2:05:03] at the high school and then a hill's uh

[2:05:06] one book one school program last year

[2:05:08] were just a few of those um funded and

[2:05:12] then we also have supported CTE and PC

[2:05:14] caps since 2012 um including a

[2:05:18] significant investment of funding

[2:05:19] $350,000

[2:05:21] uh to equip the high school and eer CTE

[2:05:24] wings over the last two years and this

[2:05:27] has been an amazing uh facility in

[2:05:29] space. Um, we frequently try to take

[2:05:31] people over to see it. You know, parents

[2:05:33] don't get inside too often. And we also

[2:05:36] had a partnership this year with Auff

[2:05:38] Laboratories. We were able to bring them

[2:05:39] to see the space, which has led to

[2:05:41] student internships and and some

[2:05:43] partnership opportunities with them,

[2:05:44] which is wonderful. So, it's a great

[2:05:46] space.

[2:05:48] And then finally, we work to support

[2:05:51] wellness and honor our amazing

[2:05:53] educators. Um, so last year we provided

[2:05:57] positive behavior interventions. uh

[2:05:59] support sorry intervention and support

[2:06:02] funding at all of our school sites. Um

[2:06:04] we also funded a multi-tered systems of

[2:06:07] support coordinator at the high school

[2:06:09] which again focused on that 9th grade

[2:06:11] cohort. Um really generous funding from

[2:06:14] the Alnova Lewis family foundation to

[2:06:16] make that possible. And then we also

[2:06:18] last year funded all those yonder

[2:06:20] pouches all the students love uh at Neer

[2:06:23] High School. Um yes, you're welcome. Uh,

[2:06:27] and you know, one of the the I think

[2:06:30] most cherished parts of our work is

[2:06:32] celebrating our educators. And so we

[2:06:34] continued our excellent educator awards

[2:06:36] program. Those are peer nominated

[2:06:38] teachers at every school. And then a

[2:06:40] student nominated educator at the high

[2:06:42] school. One of our favorite days of year

[2:06:43] to to honor the work that they do. So

[2:06:46] thank you all for your partnership and

[2:06:47] your support and we're excited for

[2:06:49] another great school ahead.

[2:07:12] partners. Uh the Ed Foundation typically

[2:07:14] hosted the Red Apple Gala. Um,

[2:07:17] traditionally it's been in October, but

[2:07:19] due to constraints with availability of

[2:07:22] their site, it's been pushed into

[2:07:24] November. And to maximize the impact of

[2:07:27] that event, uh, we would recommend that

[2:07:29] we move our PB days because their site

[2:07:33] does not have availability on certain

[2:07:36] Saturdays. They're already booked out.

[2:07:38] So, we would move um November 12th, 2027

[2:07:43] to Monday, November 1st, 2027. That

[2:07:46] would be the day after Halloween.

[2:07:48] Teachers may or may not be appreciative

[2:07:50] of that.

[2:07:55] >> And then November 10th, 2028, we would

[2:07:59] propose that that get moved to Monday,

[2:08:01] November 6. This allows the Ed

[2:08:04] Foundation to host their gala on a

[2:08:06] Saturday without it being backed to a

[2:08:08] Friday PD day where many of our families

[2:08:11] will leave town. So that is a decision

[2:08:14] item later on the agenda. But that is

[2:08:16] the rationale uh for why we're proposing

[2:08:19] that change. Uh we've also considered

[2:08:22] this with live give and not hosting a PD

[2:08:25] day on that Friday. We did that by the

[2:08:28] state last year. Um there's some belief

[2:08:31] that it had an impact on the giving that

[2:08:33] day. So we're trying to avoid those days

[2:08:36] so that those uh nonprofits can maximize

[2:08:39] their impact.

[2:10:49] tropical. And the first 100 people there

[2:10:52] do get a special shirt. So, if you're

[2:10:54] coming, that's something to look forward

[2:10:56] to. Um, club day is the 2nd and the 3rd

[2:11:00] this year. Our back to school assembly

[2:11:03] has been moved to the 9th of September

[2:11:05] instead of this week. Um, also hosted by

[2:11:09] Bright Futures on the 10th is their

[2:11:12] first gen student parent dinner. Um,

[2:11:15] unfortunately, the PCT is on the 15th

[2:11:18] for all students.

[2:11:25] homecoming football game is the 25th.

[2:11:28] The following night um is the dance.

[2:11:31] We're thinking glow in the garden, night

[2:11:40] fun. And then um the smart watches and

[2:11:44] the phones this year, I think it's going

[2:11:46] great. Mr. friend was telling me

[2:11:48] yesterday he was trying to find someone

[2:11:50] to get in trouble during lunch, but

[2:11:52] there was no one. Everyone's

[2:11:58] >> he couldn't find anyone during lunch.

[2:12:00] So, that's a win. And then I haven't

[2:12:02] heard one complaint about the smart

[2:12:03] watches. I think people are kind of like

[2:12:07] it is what it is now. Um, and then this

[2:12:10] year we do have colorcoded IDs for the

[2:12:13] freshman are neon yellow, which I know

[2:12:17] um, the people checking the doors are

[2:12:18] loving, so they can't sneak out as well.

[2:12:22] And then it is a bummer we can't do home

[2:12:25] games on Doer quite yet, but we are

[2:12:27] thankful to South Summit for sharing

[2:12:28] their home field with us. And then Mr.

[2:12:32] fine was also talking to me the other

[2:12:34] day about kind of thinking about some

[2:12:37] affordable upgrades we could maybe make

[2:12:39] for those indoor sports students. So

[2:12:42] possibly maybe some teens rooms um two

[2:12:45] for girls, two for boys, but that's in

[2:12:47] the early stages and then just

[2:12:48] brainstorming. But that's maybe

[2:12:50] something to think about. And then um as

[2:12:55] always, the PTO does need more people.

[2:12:58] So if there's anybody watching or the

[2:13:01] message can be spread spread more

[2:13:04] volunteers are always needed. And then I

[2:13:07] also wanted to talk about our class

[2:13:11] inclass meetings that we usually do

[2:13:13] since we're now in a semester system. Is

[2:14:07] really matter because it was a stampede

[2:14:10] once the teacher showed up. Um

[2:14:15] about doing more of a lottery system

[2:14:18] with a potential attendance component.

[2:14:23] Um, the parking situation and exiting

[2:14:26] the parking lot is not the best. I don't

[2:14:33] trying to leave all at once, it's going

[2:15:12] it's annoying and everyone is just

[2:15:15] there was a parking monitor at the end

[2:15:17] of the day, that would be helpful. But I

[2:15:20] haven't parked there yet

[2:16:49] Um, I think most of you know me, but for

[2:16:51] those of you that don't, I'm Mary

[2:16:52] Morgan. I am now again the co-president

[2:16:56] along with Jennifer Riggs uh of the Park

[2:16:59] City Education Association. I teach

[2:17:01] music at Charlesside and am going into

[2:17:03] my 31st year of teaching overall. Uh Jen

[2:17:07] is a fourth grade teacher at Jeremy

[2:17:08] Ranch and has also been in Park City and

[2:17:10] a teacher for a number of years. PCA is

[2:17:12] truly appreciates the collaborative

[2:17:14] relationships with all of you and we

[2:17:16] look forward to more positive work

[2:17:17] together in the coming year. It was

[2:17:20] great to see our district office

[2:17:21] personnel in the buildings on the first

[2:17:22] day of school. Visiting the schools in

[2:17:24] person shows all staff and students that

[2:17:27] you care and that you show up. Um, so

[2:17:30] thank you for that. The two

[2:17:31] teacherdirected days on Monday and

[2:17:33] Tuesday of last week were truly a gift

[2:17:36] and we appreciate all of you for

[2:17:38] supporting that. Thank you. Um, we also

[2:17:42] highly encourage and invite all of our

[2:17:43] board members to come and visit our

[2:17:45] schools anytime as we come into

[2:17:47] negotiations again this year on the

[2:17:49] licensed professional agreement and

[2:17:50] salary conversation. Um, there is one

[2:17:53] thing that we would like for you to

[2:17:54] consider as we move forward. Oftentimes

[2:17:56] decisions are made at many levels by

[2:17:59] those who do not work in a particular

[2:18:01] job. We see that happen every day by

[2:18:03] members of the legislature making

[2:18:05] decisions on education without ever

[2:18:07] really stepping foot into a school or

[2:18:09] better yet working in lean. So I would

[2:18:12] encourage we would encourage all of us

[2:18:14] sitting in this room to substitute teach

[2:18:16] at least a few days a year. Recently, my

[2:18:19] hometown of El Paso, Texas, where I

[2:18:21] first started teaching in the El Paso

[2:18:23] Independent School District, implemented

[2:18:25] a program where all district office

[2:18:27] staff are to sub in the classroom a

[2:18:29] minimum of eight days during the school

[2:18:31] year. I would take that even a step

[2:18:33] further and ask the board members to

[2:18:35] also come into the schools and sub maybe

[2:18:38] not eight days, but maybe a few days in

[2:18:40] order to truly understand the challenges

[2:18:42] in the schools that teachers and staff

[2:18:44] face daily. Come and talk to the

[2:18:46] teachers and staff and learn the true

[2:18:48] ins and outs of what happens on a daily

[2:18:50] basis and why decision certain decisions

[2:18:53] are made at the site level the way that

[2:18:55] they are. We would love to see you.

[2:18:57] Thanks again for a great start to a new

[2:18:59] school year. Teachers have been

[2:19:01] preparing for students long before they

[2:19:02] were actually on contract and it shows.

[2:19:05] We have some of the best teachers and

[2:19:07] staff in the state and we tr truly

[2:19:09] appreciate the opportunity to work

[2:19:10] together to ensure they are well cared

[2:19:12] for and fully funded to continue the

[2:19:14] absolute best education for our sweets.

[2:19:31] » All right, we're back. Believe it or

[2:19:33] not, I joked with our staff during

[2:19:35] convocation that I think somebody

[2:19:36] transposed the numbers in July and there

[2:19:38] are 13 days instead of 31 as it flew by.

[2:19:42] But uh we're back. We're excited. We're

[2:19:45] thrilled to have our kids the hallways

[2:19:46] and classrooms filled empty when they're

[2:19:48] not here with us. On Friday, August 7th,

[2:19:52] we welcomed our new licensed staff,

[2:19:55] approximately 25 new teachers to the

[2:19:58] Park City School District. Uh we spent a

[2:20:00] day at Utah Olympic Park. Oop, we took

[2:20:03] the chairlift up and gave them a glimpse

[2:20:07] of what Park City entails and embodies.

[2:20:10] So, in that picture, you see all of our

[2:20:12] new staff along with our instructional

[2:20:14] coaches, executive leadership, our

[2:20:17] principles,

[2:20:19] um, and other staff that supported that

[2:20:21] day. Uh each of our new educators gets a

[2:20:24] mentor, oftentimes their instructional

[2:20:27] coach to ensure that they are not left

[2:20:30] to figure out things on their own. And

[2:20:33] as you well know, we they get a

[2:20:34] competitive start. Our starting salaries

[2:20:36] for new teachers exceed $76,000 with a

[2:20:40] bachelor's degree and $83,000 with a

[2:20:42] master's degree. and we give them their

[2:20:44] years of all of their years of

[2:20:46] experience which is something unique uh

[2:20:49] to Park City that we started a couple of

[2:20:51] years ago. It used to be that you only

[2:20:53] got up to seven years and we expanded

[2:20:55] that to attract and retain high quality

[2:20:58] professionals.

[2:21:00] AP exam results. Um this is one piece of

[2:21:05] data that gets released in July um and

[2:21:08] not in the middle of a school year. So

[2:21:10] this is the data from 2021 up until July

[2:21:14] of 2026. And you can see there's been a

[2:21:17] steady increase in the pass rate. I

[2:21:20] joked with principal fine when he took

[2:21:22] over for retiring principal R about you

[2:21:25] that good luck. I don't know how you're

[2:21:26] going to increase from 87 to 88%.

[2:21:30] uh with more kids taking an exam because

[2:21:33] typically when more kids participate you

[2:21:36] see a drop in the pass rate and we did

[2:21:38] not see that. So 61% of all students in

[2:21:41] grades 9 through 12 took an AP exam and

[2:21:45] 2526 which is an increase of 41% from

[2:21:49] school year 2021.

[2:21:51] 88% of our AP exam takers passed at

[2:21:54] least one exam in 2526

[2:21:57] which was an increase from 76%

[2:22:01] uh in school year 2021 and then 79% of

[2:22:05] our seniors so class of 2026 that

[2:22:08] graduated in June passed at least one of

[2:22:10] their AP exams at some point in their

[2:22:13] high school experience. Uh we're still

[2:22:16] awaiting our AP coursework participation

[2:22:19] that comes from USB in September. Last

[2:22:22] year we were at 8%.

[2:22:24] Our hope is that we will increase that

[2:22:27] percentage. You likely saw the US News

[2:22:30] and Rankings report come out last week.

[2:22:33] That data is two years old. Um so the

[2:22:37] joke is that we are going to catch

[2:22:39] Skyline. We're just two years away from

[2:22:41] catching them. um because they

[2:22:44] consistently are the only public high

[2:22:46] school that ranks above us. We did

[2:22:49] increase um from the number five spot to

[2:22:52] the number three spot. Um but we were

[2:22:55] still number one in Utah in terms of

[2:22:58] college readiness.

[2:23:00] So much to be celebrated there with AP

[2:23:03] and the high school.

[2:23:05] After convocation, we always send out a survey just to say what did you like?

[2:23:10] We changed the format last year. We

[2:23:13] refined it even further this year. We

[2:23:15] did not post it on the first day back

[2:23:17] for our employees. We delayed it by two

[2:23:19] days to allow our staff to acclimate and

[2:23:22] also be inclusive of all staff. Um some

[2:23:25] of our ESPs don't return on that first

[2:23:27] contract day back. So we waited until

[2:23:30] all of them were back. And uh we

[2:23:33] recognize that we only got 142

[2:23:35] responses. We have approximately you

[2:23:37] know 650 employees. The survey is still

[2:23:40] open. Um, but so far we have received

[2:23:43] positive reception of the new format.

[2:23:46] Uh, they praised the short and sweet.

[2:23:48] We're in and out is about 45 minutes

[2:23:50] because we recognize our staff needs

[2:23:52] time. Um, it's very hard for them to be

[2:23:55] engaged when all they can thinking about

[2:23:57] is the lesson plan, getting their

[2:23:59] classroom set up, getting Canvas ready

[2:24:02] for the first day of school. Um, they

[2:24:05] also appreciated those meeting

[2:24:06] pre-preparation days. So, as Mary

[2:24:08] mentioned, last Monday and Tuesday, we

[2:24:11] directed our principles to have no

[2:24:13] meetings for licensed staff. So, they

[2:24:14] got two full work days in their

[2:24:16] classroom and we heard lots of positive

[2:24:19] feedback, but I don't know why I feel

[2:24:22] less stressed. I don't feel like I have

[2:24:24] to work this weekend because I'm

[2:24:26] prepared not only for the first day of

[2:24:28] school, but next week as well. So, those

[2:24:30] were wellreceived. There were some

[2:24:32] logistical concerns. The high school had

[2:24:34] scheduled senior parking passes as well

[2:24:37] as laptop distribution on the same day

[2:24:39] as convertation. So that created some

[2:24:41] congestion on Hearns Boulevard as if we

[2:24:44] didn't already have enough in the

[2:24:46] morning. Uh so we will pay attention to

[2:24:48] that. Um many appreciate the celebration

[2:24:52] of staff. Uh but there was a suggestion

[2:24:54] that we recognize those staff that are

[2:24:56] starting their 30th year um because it's

[2:24:59] highly likely they may retire at the

[2:25:02] conclusion of that year. and then they

[2:25:03] wouldn't be recognized that following

[2:25:06] school year. We did shift to a new

[2:25:10] training platform for all of policy

[2:25:13] review and all the state and district

[2:25:15] mandated training. It is called Vector.

[2:25:18] Uh we have had some growing pains, but

[2:25:21] uh we have gotten the coursework down to

[2:25:23] about 11 and a half hours for our staff

[2:25:25] to complete that. They have until

[2:25:26] September 30th to do so. Our goal for

[2:25:29] next year is to get that to eight hours

[2:25:32] while also providing a test out option

[2:25:34] if they are proficient with the content

[2:25:36] that they're to be trained on.

[2:25:40] Honoring years of service. So these are

[2:25:43] different groups of staff. So we had

[2:25:45] five years of service, 10 years of

[2:25:47] service, and 20 years of service. And

[2:25:50] then believe it or not, we had three

[2:25:52] staff members. And the way in which we

[2:25:55] recognize this, it has to be consecutive

[2:25:57] years of service in the Park City School

[2:25:59] District. So George Murphy who is an

[2:26:02] assistant principal at the high school,

[2:26:04] Laura RDE who's a librarian at Eert

[2:26:06] Hill, and then Annie Wallace who serves

[2:26:07] as our DLI and world language

[2:26:09] specialist. All three of them have

[2:26:11] served 30 years of consecutive service

[2:26:14] here in Park City School District. So we

[2:26:16] recognize them on stage during

[2:26:17] promotation.

[2:26:21] Again, we talked about the US News and

[2:26:22] World Report. You're up two spots u from

[2:26:26] five to three, second highest ranked

[2:26:29] traditional public high school. Uh and

[2:26:31] the ranking reflects strong AP

[2:26:33] participation and pass rates alongside

[2:26:36] our graduation and college readiness

[2:26:38] data.

[2:26:40] Enrollment numbers. So this was as of

[2:26:43] today

[2:26:45] um because they fluctuate and they

[2:26:47] change based on kids showing up, kids

[2:26:50] not showing up. So, we currently sit at

[2:26:52] 4,177.

[2:26:54] That is preschool to 12th grade. Um,

[2:26:57] we're down approximately 87 students

[2:27:00] from this time last year. Recognizing

[2:27:02] that, we will do our warm body count on

[2:27:05] October 1, and that's the number we will

[2:27:08] report out on. So you can see by schools

[2:27:11] we have 1538 at Park City High School,

[2:27:14] 944 at Eer Hill, 394 at Poland, 382 at

[2:27:19] Jeremy Trailside 348, and Paris Park is

[2:27:22] 358 and at the bottom you can see our

[2:27:25] preschool numbers. Um to speak

[2:27:28] specifically to open enrollment, we had

[2:27:30] 365 applications. We approved 197,

[2:27:36] 20 declined, and as of today, a handful

[2:27:39] that just haven't shown up yet. We do

[2:27:42] recognize some of our families won't

[2:27:43] show up until after Labor Day. Uh that's

[2:27:46] why this number is constantly changing.

[2:27:49] Um when you look at our enrollment, K12,

[2:27:53] we have 234 kindergarteners, but we have

[2:27:56] 390 seniors. Um, so that bubble still

[2:28:00] exists in our secondary schools. All of

[2:28:06] and we have seen some larger class sizes

[2:28:09] in our secondary core classes. We're

[2:28:12] keeping a close eye on those in the

[2:28:14] event that we do need to split some of

[2:28:16] those sections. We've held back some of

[2:28:18] our FTE just for those unforeseen

[2:28:21] enrollments that we sometimes can't plan

[2:28:23] for.

[2:28:26] and around the district. This was the

[2:28:28] first day of school. So, we took the

[2:28:29] whole executive leadership team. Yes, we

[2:28:31] made Randy show for us all around to

[2:28:34] every single school site. Uh we visited

[2:28:37] classrooms, we interacted with kids, we

[2:28:40] met with staff, we met with principles.

[2:28:43] Um you can see Principal Fine on stage.

[2:28:45] That's the freshman first. So, that's

[2:28:47] all of our freshman and the Eckles

[2:28:49] getting their first introduction uh to

[2:28:52] the high school. You can see some of our

[2:28:54] preschool rooms, some of our

[2:28:59] » So, he's one of our preschoolers. We

[2:29:01] told Cole, "You have to get a picture of

[2:29:03] him."

[2:29:17] lot of fun to go and visit all the sites

[2:29:19] and just be inside of schools with our

[2:29:22] kids on that first day.

[2:29:25] And then here is our theme. Um you

[2:29:27] likely read this in our welcome back

[2:29:29] letter to families. Uh we started with

[2:29:32] one PC last year. We will continue with

[2:29:34] one PC. Uh together we're on one path

[2:29:37] building one community. We know that

[2:29:39] inherently we are better together. Uh

[2:29:42] delivering one standard of elite

[2:29:44] instruction. Every kid deserves our very

[2:29:46] best every single day. Um, I explained

[2:29:49] to our staff, you cannot pour into our

[2:29:51] students from an empty cup. So, you must

[2:29:53] first take care of yourself to ensure

[2:29:55] you're very best when you're in front of

[2:29:57] our kids. And then moving at one pace

[2:30:00] that allows us to thrive for the long

[2:30:02] haul. We need to set a rhythm that we

[2:30:04] can sustain and move with intention

[2:30:06] throughout the school year. So, that's a

[2:30:09] brief highle overview as the start of 26

[2:30:12] 27 school year is underway.
