[11:35] » Um so, I'm Shannon Holt. Um grew up in Elizabethtown. We've come back home.

[11:40] Been home almost 20 years now. And um period poverty, I had patients in

[11:46] the office that could not afford period supplies and

[11:50] were having to choose between medications and food for their family

[11:55] versus their own comfort and just hygiene in general.

[12:00] So, the more I learned about it, um the more frustrated it what I became. One in

[12:04] four students do not have access or funding for their own supplies and they

[12:10] don't go to school. And two in five women throughout their

[12:13] lifetime also cannot afford supplies. They don't go to work. They lose their

[12:17] jobs. They bleed through their clothing. They reach for socks. They reach for

[12:22] newspapers. They reach for whatever they can make do with.

[12:26] Um I've met women that have stolen products because they didn't have any

[12:30] other option. So, the average cost, um the most recent

[12:36] data is $3 to $35,000 per woman in her lifetime. Um the

[12:42] products are increasingly expensive. Kentucky remains one of 18 states that

[12:47] taxes them as luxury items, so they're subject to sales tax and frankly, we

[12:54] feel that they are so essential that that's one of the things we would like

[12:58] to see go away, but in the short term, how can we get these into the hands of

[13:02] women that need them and keep them in school and keep their educations going

[13:06] and get women working and providing for their family and not worry about

[13:10] struggling with period supplies. This would not have been possible

[13:13] without Heels Together. Um

[13:16] the conversation was at a cup of coffee and talking about menopause and then I

[13:21] said, "What I really want to fix is is period poverty." Um and that it is right

[13:25] here in Hardin County. This is not You hear poverty and and period products and

[13:30] you think, "Oh, that's in Africa. That's somewhere really far away." And it's

[13:33] it's not. It's right here in town. So, we've done three distributions. We

[13:38] are working with 20 to 22 nonprofit organizations.

[13:43] And we have given away with on average about $7,000 per distribution.

[13:50] Um and we have gotten donations. We do several drives with

[13:56] different businesses that want to do collection drives. And we just want to

[14:01] keep it going. Um we'd like to start with some education on reusable products

[14:07] so that instead of just fixing a month we need, we actually can help women have

[14:12] supplies for 3 to 5 years. There are products that will do that for women.

[14:16] Um which I think is is very helpful in the longer term.

[14:20] » Got you. >> So, yes.

[14:21] » It's all very good. Well, thank you. I mean, I'm so glad to have you guys come

[14:25] by and and support and and uh be able to recognize what you guys

[14:29] are trying to do for our community. So, uh

[14:32] I turned over to the voice of the proclamations, Mr. Pike.

[14:35] Um if you wouldn't mind, sir.

[14:40] » This is a proclamation of the City of Radcliff. Whereas National Period

[14:43] Poverty Week is May 11th through 17th. And whereas two in five women struggle

[14:48] to afford period products. And whereas on average one in four girls miss school

[14:51] because they don't have access to menstrual supplies.

[14:54] And whereas the average woman will spend as much as $22,000 on period products in

[14:58] their lifetime. And whereas safety net benefits such as WIC and SNAP cannot be

[15:03] used to purchase period products. And whereas Hardin County's own Dr. Shannon

[15:06] Holt discovered many of her patients were struggling with period poverty

[15:10] right here in our community. And whereas Dr. Holt sought the support of the

[15:14] Central Kentucky Community Foundation's Heels Together Women's Fund to launch

[15:18] the Pink Dot Pink Dot Project. And whereas the Pink

[15:21] Dot Project aims to end period poverty in Hardin County through a coordinated

[15:25] effort of public and private partnerships, as no woman or girl should

[15:28] have to go without these essential products. Now, therefore, I James S.

[15:31] Duvall Jr., mayor of the city of Radcliff, Kentucky, by virtue of the

[15:34] authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim May 11th through May 17th,

[15:38] 2026, National Period Poverty Awareness Week. And in doing so, express

[15:43] uh our support for the work of Pink Dot to end period poverty in Radcliff and

[29:14] the governor also recognized this week officially for the state of Kentucky to

[29:20] be recognized as a period period poverty to advocate and to make aware. I don't

[29:25] think most people think about it because it's just a product you go to the store

[29:28] and get if you have, you know, women in your family. But when

[29:33] it's not affordable cuz it is expensive and when students decide to stay home

[29:39] because they can't make it through the day, then we start to have problems with

[29:43] truancy and just self-doubt and things like that. And so, it was great that we

[29:48] had a box in Corbin cuz I made sure we put it there because we didn't. And

[29:52] constantly I try to keep it filled and take photos and make sure people know

[29:55] that it's there and that people are contributing. So, kind of like a

[29:59] Mother's Day thing. You want to appreciate the people who are here and

[30:02] the people who are gone. That's a product that you want to appreciate to

[30:05] make sure it stays here so young ladies and older ladies, particularly young,

[30:10] can go on and have these supplies and still be able to carry on their lives.

[30:14] So, I think anybody that wants to contribute in whatever way or donate,

[30:19] Our Heels Together organization truly truly truly appreciate it. Thank you.

[31:06] we went out to Kansas uh played in the national tournament,

[31:09] went three and 0 the first day against 10 teams across the across the eastern

[31:14] part of the country, went three and 0 and then um

[31:17] we lost in the semi-final round to the team that we beat the day before by one

[31:22] point. We lost to them in overtime by one point. But the only thing that was

[31:26] great about that was it was Jason Altidore's son's team, which if you knew

[31:30] Jason Altidore from North uh it was just randomly I ran into him out there. He

[31:34] lives in Wichita now. And so it was just nice at least lose to a Racliffe kid

[31:38] instead of some random

[31:40] So it was just ironic we ran into each other.

[31:43] And then uh they won their championship finals that they had in Bowling Green

[31:48] this weekend. And so um they went four and one, but won the championship

[31:54] overall. So um it was good to see that and the kids

[31:58] the reason I'm mentioning it is all the kids are from North Middle, um JTA and

[32:03] then we have one one kid from Meade County. So they're all local. So it was

[32:06] nice to see them be successful in this and it's nice that I can stay home for a

[32:10] little while and not travel every weekend as Bob and I talked about how

[32:13] expensive that can get. So Um but other than that everything else

[32:16] is good. Um we will see you all. That's all we have. So we'll see you all.

[32:42] were phenomenal. They're doing the Lion King Jr. Um, and they're going to be at

[32:47] the PAC on May 23rd. You can probably go on her page. I'm not sure of the time,

[32:52] but it's Saturday, May 23rd. Um, I highly recommend. They're local

[32:57] students, a lot of them. Some are from here. They were third grade all the way

[33:00] up to >> they mentioned every school they were

[33:02] from. >> Every school they were from. And the the

[33:04] third grade was uh New Holland Elementary School all the way up, local

[33:08] schools. A few were out out and about, but they were phenomenal.

[33:12] Um, so I really uh if you don't have any plans for Saturday the 23rd, put that on

[33:15] your calendar to go to the PAC and watch those

[33:18] uh young talented students cuz her studio is in Radcliffe. And so that

[33:23] would be very supportive of the students and of

[33:26] um Ms. Carol. >> Yep. And
