I always joke that whenever I'm in a
[27:02]
situation where I don't know what to do
I often think to myself what would I do
[27:07]
that normally dies be in the most
ethical and right decision today to
[27:14]
Councilwoman myself and Justin life so
I'm very grateful for friendships as
[27:19]

it's week I recommend well first of all
thank you for having me here give me a
[28:54]
few minutes and happy New Year to
everyone it's my honor and pleasure of
[28:58]
course my friend to swear you in as
mayor River Ridge is an amazing town I'm
[29:06]
right next door in Paramus and it is a
wonderful family-friendly community with
[29:16]
amazing people I've happened to knock on
pretty much every door in River Edge so
[29:22]
I met everyone who lives here but it's
it's a wonderful town and you know and I
[29:28]
I'm very privileged in representing
River Edge as a as a state senator and
[29:34]
of course beforehand and the assembly
I was also councilman parameter so I
[29:39]
know how difficult it could be serving
on a local level but how rewarding it
[29:43]
can be in the legislature I have to
convince a lot of people that I'm right
[29:47]
which pretty much never happens
here on a local level you're able to let
[29:52]
the county clerk said just the you know
kind of reach out and touch the
[29:55]
residents and and let them know that
you're there for them and they can come
[29:59]
here do the same and voice their
concerns and and just just a you know
[30:02]
just a few of you up here can act on on
pretty much anything for the borough and
[30:07]
you have I know I've worked very
extensively with with everyone here and
[30:12]
this on this on this council and you
really care about the residents
[30:17]
it's it's a great town because of the
because of the people who live here and
[30:21]
because they happen to elect great
people who really care and get back and
[30:26]
again you know I'm honored that it's in
my district we're here a lot and just
[30:32]
know that you always have district 30 a
team behind you I know freeholder
[30:37]
Jermaine Ortiz who's going to come next
I think I you know you always have of
[30:43]
course you know the the strengths of the
county and and and our congressional
[30:49]
district is always behind you so every
layer of government matters and we're
[30:53]
all here to serve each other kind of you
know one spoke in the wheel that makes
[30:56]
up government but I just wanted to again
say thank you wish you luck as mayor I
[31:02]
know you're going to do a wonderful job
you're an amazing person you've opened
[31:06]
up your home to me your wife Marie just

[31:11]
shout out to the NJEA and Abby CEA that
are here my my my favorite people in the
[31:16]
world sitting behind me but I just want
to thank all of you for being great
[31:21]
people and I know you're going to do
wonderful things at this town
[31:25]
I brought some joint legislative
resolution just recognizing your
[31:31]
accomplishment becoming mayor Lisa and
Ellen for your serving attorney or an
[31:37]
accountant and being new to the council
good luck we're here for you and you
[31:45]

safe year for everybody so god bless and
[32:00]

[32:10]
silicon lagana Assemblyman Tully and

[32:17]
phenomenal job for Bertie County for
legislative district 38 we are grateful
[32:21]
for their service and we are grateful
that they were able to come and Thank
[32:25]
You senator I really appreciate it
[32:34]

done great things together and achieve
great things together
[34:16]
so on behalf of the county executive for
$23 commendations congratulating entry
[34:23]
or extend their service
[34:40]
[Music]
[34:48]
[Applause]
the quirky County freeholder is under
[34:57]
the leadership of Jermaine and the
others have done a wonderful job for the
[35:02]
borough of River edge and for the county
they have brought in zero budgets two
[35:06]
years in a row they have removed
homeless veterans from our streets and
[35:11]
found services and support for them they
continue to do phenomenal things we are
[35:18]
we are honored and proud to have you
here and for all the work that you and
[35:23]
the other freeholders do for us and
again the county executive thank you we
[35:34]
have one or two honored guests that we
I'd like to just give them an
[35:38]
opportunity to say a few words we have
with us the president of the New Jersey
[35:43]
Education Association Murray Liston
Murray if you'd like to come forward
[35:48]
really appreciate it
she is my president you can do it a
[35:52]
phenomenal job for educators and
students and we have sue McBride who is
[35:57]
the president of the burden County
Education Association
[36:00]
she also they're friends they've been
doing great things for our schools and
[36:05]
we're so honored that you came and
joined us tonight thank you thank you I
[36:10]
should say there thank you to everyone
on the Town Council thank you we are
[36:17]
very honored to be here ladies and
gentlemen I am most privileged and
[36:21]
honored to be here I was here when Tom
was first sworn in as Town Council many
[36:28]
years ago he asked me I was not
president but I was an officer than JEA
[36:32]
and I can tell you that you have done
very well I'm not surprised that Tom
[36:39]
Papa Leo is now your mayor you see I
knew Tom as a mayor as a man as a family
[36:45]
man actually I knew Murray papillae oh
he was the guy married to Murray
[36:51]
I know him as a family and analyst
that's right but I also knew him as a
[36:58]
teacher as an educator and as a leader
in his work and that's why I'm so very
[37:04]
confident of the job that he's going to
continue to do here in leadership as
[37:08]
mayor as teachers and as educators I
often say that over my 35 years as a
[37:15]
classroom teacher I had many many
students and children come in front of
[37:19]
me but I never saw in front of me what
was right there I looked at my students
[37:25]
as other educators do on what can be and
what will be and I know that tom is
[37:31]
going to take those very same traits and
apply it as he is there in this very
[37:37]
great town our public schools are rated
number one in the United States for the
[37:43]
best quality public schools and when I
look here at River Edge you are rated
[37:52]
into one of the two top 2/3 of the top
towns to live in the state of New Jersey
[37:59]
that is also not hard to believe you
have one of the highly prestigious Blue
[38:05]
Ribbon schools that are nationally
ranked in the United States you are a
[38:11]
town that is very much worthy of people
looking to and for as a model in this
[38:18]
state Tom's character and his integrity
is beyond reproach he has demonstrated
[38:25]
at that time and time again and I know
that as an elected official he will do
[38:30]
right by you
but I also want to take the opportunity
[38:33]
to thank all of you for the time that
you give to support anyone who is
[38:38]
elected into office it is really a very
solemn occasion for anyone who
[38:44]
volunteers including our legislators and
our freeholders because they give not
[38:50]
only their time and their dedication
they have given their promise to do
[38:54]
right by you but they found what their
families have done the same because it
[38:58]
is a lot of time behind the scenes that
people don't realize
[39:04]
I want to again thank you for the work
in the collaboration that this town has
[39:09]
given with elected officials in their
public school systems because that is
[39:13]
what I do they you could not get the
rankings in your public school system
[39:18]
here in this town if you did not have
the sincere collaboration between the
[39:24]
school board between Town Council
between the parents and of course the
[39:29]
wonderful educators and as I look around
this room I see many of us in this room
[39:34]
so I want to thank you again for having
me it is a privilege and an honor and
[39:39]
thank you Tom and thank all of you for
serving in these prestigious positions
[39:46]
[Applause]
Tom and I have known each other over 15
[39:54]
years now we started out as local
presidents in Bergen County and when I
[40:01]
think of one of the one of the most
trustworthy decent kind good-hearted
[40:09]
people Tom Papa Leo comes to mind every
single time and you are well well it
[40:19]
well thought out too well election as
you know and as a president of the BCA
[40:24]
we are so proud of you Tom and we look
forward to great things for you as you
[40:30]
grow a new role as mayor of the bridge
the enormous congratulations on behalf
[40:34]

[59:48]
to thank the voters 2019 did bring a
number of changes to the borough and I
[59:55]
would like to personally thank my
council colleagues for their incredible
[1:00:01]

levity was required for us to get all
[1:00:07]
get through the changes we had to adapt
- I'd like to thank our borough attorney
[1:00:13]
for really being a wonderful council to
me as I kind of stepped into a role I
[1:00:17]
was unfamiliar with and - our borough
administrator rape Orio for his
[1:00:23]
professionalism and leadership and kind
of really holding helping us through
[1:00:29]
this without having a seated mayor I'd
like to thank the entire girl staff for
[1:00:35]
doing that as well you were asked to do
a lot more than you may have been asked

[1:00:44]
warm thank you for that I'd like to

aboard I'd also like to thank all the
[1:01:18]
volunteers who have accepted
appointments this evening we could not
[1:01:22]
do what we do with the borough without
the help of volunteers so thank you all
[1:01:28]
for for stepping up I'd also like to
recognize two commissioners who will not
[1:01:34]
be returning to Recreation this year
Chris Lau had to leave prematurely we
[1:01:41]
want to thank Chris for all of his years
of service to the Recreation Commission
[1:01:44]
and I also want to recognize Pete Smith
a longtime Commissioner on for
[1:01:50]
recreation who has decided not to seek
reappointment mayor we would like to ask
[1:01:56]
both of them to come up to a meeting in
the future we recognize for their years
[1:02:00]
of service so we'll work on that
outstanding idea I think all our
[1:02:04]
professionals for being for joining us
again for another year
[1:02:08]
I want to pledge that this council will
work steadfastly to enhance our
[1:02:15]
communication with the residents of
River Edge I know all of us up here feel
[1:02:20]
that we have ways that we can improve
and you have our commitment of the body
[1:02:24]
to do that so that's one of the things
