[2:30]
of Public Works and Safety.
[2:34]
New business.
[2:43]
» Rob Miller, building department.
Um
[2:47]
associated with that rainstorm that we
had Saturday, we had a partial roof
[2:51]
failure down at 63
East Washington Street. And I would like
[2:57]
to get an order to appear for the owner
to come and talk about what his plans
[3:02]
are at this point for the building
because we've had discussions with him
[3:06]
about doing some work on the facade and,
you know, he says things and, you know,
[3:13]
not a whole lot happens and so maybe you
all can get some more concrete answers
[3:20]
out of him than what I've been able to
do at this point. Um he's got a couple
[3:24]
of tenants that, you know,
I I don't know what they're going to do,
[3:29]
but they can't work out of that space at
this point. Uh
[3:32]
and so,
you know, we need to figure out in a
[3:35]
fairly short order, you know, what we're
going to be doing down there.
[3:40]
» What did you say his name was?
>> Uh John Oliver, I believe his name is.
[3:47]
» Have you Have you deemed the I mean, the
the tenants down below there, have you
[3:52]
told them they can't work here because
it the building's unsafe? Have you
[3:55]
declared that building to be unsafe?
>> Uh
[3:58]
yeah, I mean it's kind of one of those I
think they understand this. You know
[4:02]
what I mean? But I I spoke with both of
them personally
[4:06]
in person yesterday on site and you know
they just
[4:11]
you know, that's their livelihood and
they do not know what they're going to
[4:15]
do.
>> Is it Is it safe enough for them to get
[4:18]
their equipment out of there if they
need to?
[4:20]
» Yeah, it's it's safe enough for that.
You know what I mean? The roof fell, but
[4:24]
there you know, the second floor
in my opinion is not at risk of falling
[4:28]
down onto the first floor.
>> Okay.
[4:31]
» You know, but obviously as we stand here
right now, another significant rainstorm
[4:35]
would be
not very good.
[4:38]
The power's shut off, so you know,
that's a
[4:41]
small, you know, safety
measure that's been taken, but uh
[4:47]
» Has the gas been shut off?
Do you know if the gas has been shut
[4:50]
off?
>> I do not know that.
[4:53]
» It probably should be, I would think.
Just in in the
[4:57]
don't want a gas leak down there on top
everything else.
[5:00]
» Mhm.
[5:03]
But
>> I'll make a motion motion for the the
[5:06]
owner [clears throat] of 63 East
Washington Street to appear before the
[5:09]
board.
>> I second that.
[5:12]
» Motion second. Is there any further
discussion?
[5:16]
Anyone in the public wish to speak?
Brandy, come on.
[5:22]
» [clears throat]
>> Thank you, Rod.
[5:25]
» Good morning. Brandy Combs, executive
director of Main Street Shelbyville. Um
[5:29]
63 East Washington was a grant recipient
um
[5:34]
I believe 2023
uh
[5:37]
and how our process works that you have
1 year from
[5:41]
the time the grant starts to complete
work. If not, then you have to get an
[5:44]
extension through our board of
directors.
[5:46]
Um that project went on and on and he
like he tore it off and then never went
[5:51]
back and put the facade back. So, after
a period of time I reached out, reached
[5:56]
out, really got no reply.
Um,
[5:59]
informed my board of directors that we
were um,
[6:03]
you know, uh, voiding the uh, grant and
what we do in that case. If they don't
[6:07]
get the work done, we just roll the
money over and put it in another
[6:10]
project. So, that's no problem. I mean,
they were never awarded any funds.
[6:14]
But, um,
I uh,
[6:16]
you know, lost communication with him. I
got no replies, no replies. Um, John
[6:20]
Oliver. And uh,
then uh,
[6:24]
Tom, your uh, Reeves had to ask some
questions and so we've kind of went back
[6:29]
and forth for now what, 3 years?
>> Probably.
[6:31]
» No responses.
Um,
[6:34]
I had heard that uh,
building and planning were inspect-
[6:38]
inspecting it and working with him,
trying to get some answers. So, just on
[6:41]
our part it's um,
it's disappointing to one, not get the
[6:45]
grant work completed and two, to ruin a
building like that. Um,
[6:50]
so, um, we would appreciate any efforts
you can do to back that up because we
[6:54]
have no, you know, we know we have no
jurisdiction. We're just there as a
[6:57]
non-profit, but um, we would love to see
that building saved and brought back to
[7:01]
what it was.
>> Okay.
[7:04]
Thank you.
Any further public comment?
[7:08]
Hearing none, all in favor say I.
>> I.
[7:09]
» I. Motion carries 3-0.
Any further new business?
[7:16]
Entertain a motion to adjourn. So moved.
We're adjourned. Thank you all.
[7:20]
