at 5:45 p.m. Uh, public notice has been
[1:17]
issued with respect to the special
[1:18]
meeting and has been published as
[1:20]
required under the Municipal Government
[1:22]
Act. Uh, I'm looking it for
[1:25]
administration to see if there's any
[1:27]
additions or deletions to the agenda.

have one uh one item on the agenda 4.1

an RFD for the 2025 municipal election
[1:59]
advanced voting and uh Miss Tingley this
[2:03]
is yours

mayor but council I feel like I'm going
[2:07]
to stand up because it's a full crowd
[2:08]
and I can my contact here. Okay. So the
[2:11]
purpose of this RFD is to um have the
[2:13]
addition of an advanced polling date for
[2:15]
the upcoming municipal election. Uh so
[2:17]
council or sorry administration's
[2:19]
recommendations that council move that
[2:21]
we provide an advanced vote date for the
[2:23]
election uh just some context uh for the
[2:26]
2021 election we had an advanced vote on
[2:29]
October 16th from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
[2:31]
2 days ahead of the election on October
[2:33]
18th. Uh so there's no date set as of
[2:36]
yet for the 2025 election. But uh
[2:38]
following this meeting um Ron and myself
[2:41]
will look into uh dates based on staff
[2:43]
availability if um it sounds direction
[2:45]
that we can have an advanced vote. Um
[2:47]
I've included the section um of the
[2:49]
local authorities election act that uh
[2:51]
relates to the advanced vote and um what
[2:53]
is required of us to have that um and if
[2:57]
there's no uh further questions that
[2:59]
concludes my RFD.

the council provides an advanced vote

for the 2025.

for clarity, in the 2021 election, that
[3:32]
is what was held. But that doesn't mean
[3:35]
this election that staff will be able to
[3:37]
do that. Our only role here at the table
[3:40]
is to provide whether or not there is
[3:42]
going to be an advanced poll. If there
[3:44]
is, that's up to administration and the
[3:47]
uh chief elector
[3:52]
organizer.

just add some some clarity and context

as to why we do it this way. So, as we

know, council has um the requirement to
[4:06]
do this as as outlined in the report.

What we want to do and what is best
[4:12]
practice is to protect council from
[4:14]
setting the date to favor themselves in
[4:18]
in any election. So what happens is
[4:20]
council just authorizes the returning
[4:22]
officer to have a date then we'll set it
[4:25]
and we'll let the public and council
[4:27]
know what time and the date is of the
[4:30]
advanced poll right after this. So this
[4:33]
will be coming out
[4:35]
looking at at the returning office it's
[4:38]
not tomorrow it's by Thursday we'll have
[4:41]
that that date and time set
[4:45]
» For some timing as well. So uh we need
[4:48]
to uh advertise one week prior to the
[4:50]
earliest date. So with a cuto off for um
[4:53]
the paper of the 29th of September. Uh
[4:56]
the earliest advanced vote date would be
[4:57]
u Monday October 6th. That's not the
[4:59]
date that um we will be picking. That's
[5:01]
just kind of give you some reference. So
[5:02]
it'll be anywhere from the 6th to 2 days
[5:05]
prior to the election. So the 18th
[5:08]
will be announcing council.
