[0:03] Okay, it's time to call a meeting in the order. All our members are present. Nobody is missing, except Michael.
[0:15] Is there any request to address the board for close decision items? Nobody wants to talk?
[0:21] I think that's a little.
[0:22] Is that a no?
[0:23] Oh, here comes Mike.
[0:24] You may want to.
[0:25] Oh, he may want to.
[0:26] He wants you to have support.
[0:27] Hey,
[0:29] with that, with that, we'll adjourn the meeting.
[0:32] You're going $4.00 fine for me.
[0:38] I'll entertain a motion to enter into closed session.
[0:42] All right.
[0:43] Well, Penny and I, our computer says three o'clock.
[0:46] So you're really, really.
[0:48] All right.
[0:49] All in favor?
[0:50] So moved.
[0:55] Hi.
[0:58] Well, we'll return to regular session.
[1:06] First, we'll have the Pledge of Allegiance.
[1:08] Mr. Crosby, since your birthday, we're celebrating.
[1:11] Would you like to leave us?
[1:15] He's almost told us to touch the
[1:22] United States of America, and it's just going to put in it for which he stands, one nation, and I got into this world with liberty and justice or all.
[1:35] No, no, no.
[1:37] Good job.
[1:38] Now I do have to say something since Mr. Larson brought it up.
[1:42] The way we currently say the pledge, they changed it till, when I was born, that's not the way the pledge was said.
[1:49] So it's changed, so those of you who over 72, you know what I'm talking about.
[1:56] I should go and read the resume.
[1:58] We have two items to report out of a closed session.
[2:06] The first one is in closed session, the Board of Education took action on pay as a compromise
[2:11] and settlement in the 7th to exceed $14,600 to professional tutors of America for 100
[2:18] of educational services, which can be for reading or math instruction, academic tutoring, or related
[2:25] services. The 7 not to exceed $10,500 to Dr. Veronica Olvera for two independent educational
[2:34] evaluations I.E.E. in the areas of the psycho education and functional behavior and the
[2:43] of $13,566 to hope for families law LLP for attorney's fees and the due process settlement agreement for student SSID
[2:57] 3646771558 OAHK's number 2026041219. Motion was made by Mr. Larson, seconded by Mr.
[3:06] burials, the vote was five eyes, no knees, and no extensions.
[3:13] The second item, in close session, the Board of Education took action on approval to
[3:17] place Darius Robinson is the principal of Victoria Valley High School.
[3:22] The motion was made by Miss Edmiston, seconded by Mr. Larson, the vote was five, yes, no eyes,
[3:30] no abs, abs, abs, abs, abs, abs, abs, abs, abs, abs, abs,
[3:38] abs.
[3:38] You know, I'm really pleased as Mr. Robinson starts to make his way up to the podium here. I'll say a few words here.
[3:46] You know, that I really, really pleased in that, you know, Darius is going to be leading at the helm for Victor high school.
[3:55] You know, it was a big panel that went through this process of over 20 people.
[4:00] Two separate rounds, one interpersonal, one technical, you know, panel and farbie came out through that.
[4:06] Then he ended up with executive cabinet for probably about three hours or so wrestling to that.
[4:13] And if that wasn't enough, then we decided to have breakfast, which then turned from breakfast into lunch time.
[4:20] And without a doubt, in my mind, you know, he has the right skill and the right heart to lead this school.
[4:26] And Derek, I look forward to the great things to come. So welcome and congratulations.
[4:38] And then real quick, too, you know, Darious's family was on his way up here, too, too, to
[4:43] be with him, and they're stuck in traffic as they learn that.
[4:47] So it's being recorded here, we're going to make sure we're going to get you a clip of this
[4:51] so that you can send us to your family and your friends, Darious.
[4:55] Thank you.
[4:56] President and members of the Board of Education, Superintendent Coles, Executive Cabinet,
[5:01] colleagues, family, and members of the Victor Valley High School community. I am truly honored
[5:08] and humbled to accept the opportunity to service principal at Victor Valley High School.
[5:13] First, I want to thank the Board of Education in the superintendent and the executive cabinet
[5:18] for entrusting me with this responsibility. I'm grateful for your confidence in me and I do not
[5:25] take this lightly at all.
[5:29] To the Victor Valley High School community, thank you.
[5:33] When I arrived last year as an assistant principal,
[5:37] I was new not only to Victor Valley High School,
[5:40] but to California.
[5:42] I moved here to be closer to my family.
[5:46] And what I did not expect was I would
[5:49] inherit an entirely new family at Victor Valley High School.
[5:58] For our students and staff, to our parents and community members, you welcomed me, supported me, challenged me,
[6:08] and gave me the opportunity to be part of something very special, I am incredibly grateful.
[6:16] I also want to thank my family, especially my son, for their unwavering support.
[6:21] Leadership acts a great deal not only of a person serving, but also of the people who stand beside them.
[6:28] I would not be here without their encouragement, patience, and love.
[6:35] Although I am relative new to this district and this community,
[6:39] the significant of this role and the significance of Victor Valley High School
[6:43] is not lost to me.
[6:47] Victor Valley High School has a history and legacy
[6:49] unlike any other school in our district.
[6:53] As the oldest high school in the high desert,
[6:56] generations of families have walked its halls.
[7:00] This school has helped shake this community and with that history comes both tremendous pride and tremendous responsibility.
[7:10] As a principal, I want to honor that legacy while working alongside our students, staff, families, district leadership and community to build an even stronger future.
[7:22] Our students deserve a school where they are known, supported, challenged and giving every opportunity to succeed.
[7:30] Our staff deserve leadership that listens to them, supports them, and believes in the work they do every day.
[7:38] And our community deserves a big-developed high school that it can continue to be a proud of.
[7:43] I'm excited about what lies ahead.
[7:47] I am grateful for the opportunity to serve, and I'm proud to call Victor Valley High School my home.
[7:53] Thank you for your trust, your support, and this is incredible honor. Go Jack Roberts.
[8:05] Thank you, Mr. Robinson.
[8:07] You're right. Go jackrabbits.
[8:11] Any comments from the board members?
[8:15] You don't have to wear a green, but it's not a good idea.
[8:18] But it is preferred areas, okay?
[8:22] But anyway, I figured I would make this offer,
[8:26] and I don't intend to ever speak for all of us,
[8:28] but I would say between all of us and you're talking about the community,
[8:34] If there's somebody in the community, you don't know how to get a connection to
[8:39] between all of us, even though Rosie's been here longer than any of us, but they're still
[8:45] the newbies, you know, and communities evolved with the elementary district.
[8:50] It crawls me top for a long time, a Victor and wasn't an administrator.
[8:54] And Mr. Larson, he's been on the board here before. He's been in the community, so
[9:00] I think any of us could help get you in contact with anybody that maybe you can't get to, okay, because we're all behind it
[9:07] And you know me and Crowley and definitely Mr. Noes, we still bleed kind of green, okay?
[9:15] We support you. We're so happy that you're leading our flagship school. Thank you
[9:21] Yeah, we're excited to have you in the morning board and
[9:24] Like what's that? I said anything I need give us a buzz
[9:28] We're glad to have you here.
[9:29] We look forward to a great career with Victoria High School.
[9:35] And just thank you and welcome.
[9:39] And we know you're up to the challenge.
[9:43] It's okay.
[9:45] Moving on.
[9:46] We have a motion to approve the agenda.
[9:48] Some moves.
[9:50] Any discussion?
[9:52] All in favor?
[9:53] All right.
[9:54] Some move.
[9:56] We have a presentation.
[10:01] We have two ceremonial swearing in, and this is a second go around for, you know, one of our favorite officers, and that is our can and officer.
[10:16] So we're going to bring, ask her up here and see if you want some valley rubs.
[10:21] And, you know, and Crystal administer the the oath of office, and if that's missed Edmison,
[10:26] and she wants to put the badge on, on aster, so we'll put the, but there's no guarantee
[10:33] he's going to stand all fours as he wants his belly rubbed.
[10:38] He absolutely stole the show the other day.
[10:43] Thank you, Superintendent.
[10:46] You know, we shared this honor with the school staff and our kickoff event, we want to make
[10:50] that we shared this with our community.
[10:53] Well, tonight's ceremony carries a bit of fun and tradition.
[10:56] It also represents something much bigger.
[10:59] Asters a state certified detection canine,
[11:01] partnered with Officer Cow Woods,
[11:03] and together they will help protect our students,
[11:05] staff, and campuses through the detection of firearms,
[11:09] ammunition, and our colleagues.
[11:11] Asters are friendly, approachable, and ambassador for our department.
[11:14] But when it's time to work, he is an exceptional professional.
[11:18] The oath you are about to hear is symbolic, but the commitment behind it is very real.
[11:22] It represents the trust to our community and the trust to be placed in every member of the department,
[11:29] whether they walk on two legs or four.
[11:32] It is my honor to officially welcome Canada to ask her in the service with the Victor Valley Unisable District Police Department,
[11:37] and ask her if you are ready, we will take your oath.
[11:39] It's
[11:56] always where the faithfully served, the capability of your household, districts,
[12:01] apartments with wealthy, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting our students,
[12:06] staff, and community.
[12:07] I use my nose with purpose, my training with discipline, and my instincts with confidence,
[12:12] detect fire, transition, and controls up to whatever I'm called, sir.
[12:18] The faithfully standing side by side, working as one team, and never leaving aside.
[12:23] Whether the day brings long searches to the campuses or new adventures.
[12:28] To remember that every student deserves a friendly tailway.
[12:32] Every teammate deserves my best effort and every search deserves my complete adventure.
[12:38] To carry myself with the professionalism, courage and integrity,
[12:43] knowing the racing awards are a job well done.
[12:45] My partner's phrase and maybe a treat or two.
[12:48] So this, I pledge my notes, my thoughts, and my thoughts.
[12:54] We're in 10 to give you a proper.
[12:58] I don't know if I can get there.
[13:02] Do you want to do it?
[13:03] I don't know if I can get there.
[13:06] You're a permanent Indian.
[13:08] We're going to try to get this proper.
[13:09] Here we go.
[13:21] Here we go.
[13:24] Thank you.
[13:36] Thank you.
[13:40] Congratulations.
[13:58] And then you can.
[14:00] Oh.
[14:08] Just for me to ask for the rest.
[14:10] I'll give you one.
[14:11] There we go.
[14:17] Okay.
[14:19] All right.
[14:33] The next we have is, as you know, Officer Mata was a border proof last time and so today is the ceremonial
[14:40] as well as swearing in of Office of Modo, so Chiefsville.
[14:45] And I should start over, good evening, Board President, Board Member, Superintendent
[14:50] Coles, Cabinet and Community.
[14:53] Tonight is my honor to introduce an officially swearing our newest police officer, Jennifer
[14:58] Modo.
[14:59] Officer Modo.
[15:00] Audit, joins the victim of the United States Police Department with seven years of law enforcement experience, serving both school and municipal communities.
[15:11] Throughout her career, she has demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a genuine commitment to serving others.
[15:17] Quality is at a line perfectly with admissions and values of our department.
[15:22] Joining us this evening are Jennifer's parents, Rudy and Debbie, and her children,
[15:28] Vanessa and Benjamin.
[15:35] While her husband, Adrian, was unfortunately unable to be with us tonight, we know he
[15:38] has been an important source of support throughout your career.
[15:42] To all Jennifer's family, thank you for the sacrifices that you have made and continue
[15:47] to make and support of her service to now our community.
[15:51] Jennifer, we are excited to welcome you to our team.
[15:54] We are confident that your experience,
[15:56] character, and dedication will make a lasting impact on our students, staff, families,
[16:02] and we are privileged to serve.
[16:04] At this time, I'd like to invite Officer Jennifer Mata Ford for the administration of
[16:08] our oath office, followed by her ceremonial badge,
[16:58] and the Constitution of the State of California.
[17:01] And I take this obligation to breathe.
[17:03] That I take this obligation to breathe.
[17:04] About any mental recovery.
[17:06] Without any mental reservations.
[17:09] Or for facilitation.
[17:10] And that I will well.
[17:11] And that I will well.
[17:12] And breathe.
[17:13] And thankfully.
[17:14] This start to do this.
[17:15] Distart to duty.
[17:16] Which of those men?
[17:18] So, on which of about to enter.
[17:28] Thank you.
[17:29] Thank you.
[17:38] Thank you.
[17:39] Good to see you.
[17:43] Thank you, Chief.
[17:45] And Officer Madder, congratulations to you and your family.
[17:50] We're glad to have you as part of our school district police department.

[18:23] It.
[18:24] The President will recognize those who desire to speak either during the public comment section

[19:11] The Board values constructive community comments and suggestions.
[19:14] It welcomes your participation in the democratic process.
[19:17] Thank you. First up is Christine Sondine, Principal of Options for Youth.
[19:34] Good evening. I'm Christine Sondine with Options for Youth Charter School.
[19:39] Good evening, Board members, Superintendent Coles, and Executive Cabinet.
[19:45] It's great to be here with you tonight. We are looking forward to a great year.
[19:49] As I'm sure all of you are, I've seen some great videos and pictures on your website,
[19:53] taking off that energy for our students.
[19:56] I'm here tonight to submit our options for youth charter school renewal petition.
[20:02] We are looking forward to this journey with you all.
[20:05] And our grateful for the partnership we've established over the years.
[20:09] Thank you for giving me this opportunity to submit our charter petition for renewal.
[20:13] And I hope you all have a wonderful evening.
[20:20] So this is the first step in the process board where we have 90 days to review this.
[20:25] And so this is the very first step in the process, so we'll have more conversations over
[20:30] this.
[20:30] But this is the first step over the next really three months in the petition process.
[20:35] All right.
[20:35] Thanks for seeing.
[20:39] Next is Angela Powers from Sims.
[20:47] Good evening, everyone.
[20:48] Real quick, is anybody seen Brooklyn, 99?
[20:51] There's like that episode where Boyle gets to be awarded the same time as the horse.
[20:56] I'm sorry, officer.
[20:59] Sorry.
[20:59] Good evening board members and district personnel first and foremost, I would like to thank you all for the time that you dedicate to making sure students receive the best education possible.
[21:11] I would also like to take the time to say dad says hi.
[21:15] He misses you but not the long hours being on the board that only applies to like three or four of you now.
[21:20] I rise to speak to you this evening as an educator, a woman of faith, and a parent deeply committed to the democratic values of inclusivity, secularism, and scientific integrity.
[21:33] The very principles I teach my students to uphold daily is with a sense of moral and professional urgency that I address the district's selection of the High Desert Church as the venue for our annual kickoff.
[21:46] While I understand political necessity of securing space for our growing staff, we must not ignore the profound constitutional and ethical implications of using public funds to support religious institutions.
[22:02] The separation of church and state is not merely illegal doctrine.
[22:06] It is a foundational pillar of our pluralistic society that ensures public institutions remain accessible to all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof.
[22:17] Furthermore, this venue choice stands in direct contradiction to our commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
[22:24] For many members of our staff, the imposition of our religious environment creates a significant barrier to professional life.
[22:30] I wonder a staff would have an issue if we were to hold a district event at a mosque or a Jewish community center instead of a Christian church building.
[22:38] We have an obligation to ensure that our district events are neutral spaces where every educator feels respected, rather than alienated by the environment in which they are required to congregate.
[22:50] Perhaps most troubling is a district's financial affiliation with an entity that sponsors the Stanton Mobile.
[22:56] This organization promotes abortion pill reversals, a procedure that the American College of
[23:03] obstetricians and gynecologists categorically states, lacks scientific evidence and poses
[23:08] significant safety risks.
[23:10] By directing public funds to an institution that propagates these claims, the district's inadvertently
[23:16] aligns itself with, and implicitly endorses medical misinformation that contradicts the
[23:21] very evidence-based practices we strive to model for our students.
[23:24] I respectfully urge the Board to model the critical thinking and ethical stewardship we demand
[23:30] of our students.
[23:31] Please reconsider this venue and prioritize secular locations such as Vector Valley College
[23:36] or the Fairgrounds for future events.
[23:39] This transition would not only honor our commitment to inclusive practices but also ensure
[23:43] that our district's resources and partnerships are rooted in evidence-based integrity.
[23:48] Thank you for your time and consideration.
[23:56] Thank you, Angela.
[23:58] Moving on, item number six, our bargaining unit reports, VVTA first.
[24:15] Hello.
[24:16] My name is Mike Mayo.
[24:17] I'm president of the Vitality Teachers Association.
[24:20] This is my fifth year now.
[24:22] Yeah, I'm on my fifth year.
[24:24] Well, time flies.
[24:26] All right, so first things, I want to say thank you to the members that have made it
[24:31] out tonight.
[24:32] I know the first weeks are very difficult.
[24:35] That's going to include, like, as far as facilities.
[24:38] We also have some big changes that took place here in the district, so to make sure
[24:43] everybody is on the same page.
[24:45] We know that we took back county students, and I liked the idea of us being able to house
[24:50] our students and take care of them and bring them back into the fold.
[24:54] Just understand also the difficulties of doing that and the infrastructure and making sure
[24:58] that everything is going to be all right.
[24:59] Because those are some of the concerns that the members are speaking of.
[25:03] And it's great to see a lot of the stuff that has come to the campuses in preparation and in support of that.
[25:11] So we're kind of going to have to kind of just watch along the way to make sure everything's moving all right.
[25:17] And if it looks like there are problems, don't worry, our members will speak up.
[25:21] We'll definitely hear about that.
[25:23] And then we can take the conversations into hopefully a place where we can actually make progress.
[25:32] Oh, I just heard this, some of you whispered over my shoulder before I came over here, so before I forget, happy birthday, can't cross me, I guess, 97, 97 doesn't look at that, it's almost there, 10 more years, triple digits, all right,
[25:52] so VVTA, we've been focusing on different things different years and so now we're kind of making a conglomeration of everything and we're keeping with some of the stuff that we've been moving forward, it doesn't mean that we're doing everything correct.
[26:04] There's constantly adjusting, re-adjusting, assessing, and I'm glad to see that oftentimes
[26:09] it's happening with the District 2.
[26:13] So again, our focus is going to be on member empowerment to try to take care of things
[26:16] at site levels, as closely as you possibly can, because honestly, our site reps who are at
[26:22] those sites no better than I do, if I'm not actually working at that site as to what those
[26:27] issues are and how best to tackle those with the administration, too.
[26:30] Clear communication that means with our members, for transparency purposes, and also clear communication with our site admin,
[26:38] our classified staff, and trying to make sure that we're understanding what our other issues are on the classified side.
[26:44] Because so often we rely on classified staff to help us just get through our regular everyday kind of business.
[26:53] We have shared leadership. There's no one person in our association who makes all the decisions. Nobody does.
[27:01] I get to be a spokesperson, but that's only because they elect me to be a spokesperson.
[27:05] Otherwise, we rely heavily upon leaders and some of those leaders are here tonight too.
[27:11] And then accountability. We need to hold ourselves accountable to what we say we're going to do.
[27:16] And like I said, we've had some successes and we've had some things that have been quite successful.
[27:21] and so we continue to work on that as we go and you'll see more of that hopefully this year.
[27:28] Okay, we have some important things that are happening this year and so I'll be up front with this.
[27:32] I also put this in my welcoming letter to our members.
[27:36] But a focus on prop 3. Last year, you would have heard me speaking up on the extension of prop 55,
[27:43] our rep council quite a while ago. Over a year ago, voted in unanimously that they would move
[27:51] with pushing for an extension of Pothet-5, the extension of Pothet-5 is now known as Pothet-3.
[27:58] And so we're going to be moving, checking along, we're really fast on this.
[28:02] The good news is that we're going to be able to partner with CTA itself and possibly even save our association members so many.
[28:09] As far as their dues go, we can stretch it out by working in hand and hand with CTA who's moving on Pothet-3.
[28:16] And they're also going to be helping us get our local endorses elected.
[28:22] And so, I can bring those endorses up now.
[28:24] We have Kent Crossby, Penny Emmiston, and Rosie Hennohos.
[28:28] And so, we will continue to move in that direction.
[28:33] And we also have a bargaining of a successor contract.
[28:36] Now, what exactly our members are going to say that they want,
[28:39] we have some ideas, but we have to do the usual stuff like surveying.
[28:42] As we look forward to working with Mike Willofürt and the rest of the negotiating team from the district.
[28:49] And then, oh, I think that's about it.
[28:53] Oh, one more thing.
[28:58] I want to wish everybody an excellent year, and we look forward to working with the district
[29:03] and working with CSEA.
[29:05] Thank you.
[29:11] Thanks, Mike.
[29:12] And that was an excellent letter to your members.
[29:16] The welcome letter.
[29:17] That was awesome.
[29:19] Next, CSEA report.
[29:36] good evening board members board president members of the I'm sorry superintendent
[29:45] because I usually all write to stuff down right I usually just say it off the
[29:48] top of my head but I'm getting older and I forget things so I want it to make sure
[29:53] I had all of my thoughts collectively organized so you guys follow a little bit
[29:59] better than you
[30:00] Unusual Cabinet and Community. I'd like to begin on a solemn note tonight. On behalf of CSEA, we want to recognize the heart-breaking loss of one of our dedicated campus security officers from Silverado High School, Elvin Moment Jr., Elvin served our district with heart and dedication since 2006, where he started as an instructional aid. His loss is deeply felt across our district and our thoughts.
[30:30] and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues.
[30:34] On a brighter note, I want to thank Superintendent Cole's for a very informative leadership
[30:38] retreat in Long Beach, hearing about our district ranked number four in San Bernardino
[30:44] County and number five in Riverside County, driven by our 75% A to A through G course
[30:51] work completion, is something we should all be proud of.
[30:56] Superintendent Coles spoke about shifting from minor league mindset to a major league district.
[31:03] And baseball earning a spot on the 40-man roster means you are trusted, valued, and ready to perform at the highest level.
[31:12] From the unions perspective, our classified staff are an essential part of that 40-man roster.
[31:18] When the district invests in supports and values classified employees, it directly translates
[31:25] to better outcomes, safer schools, and a winning environment for our students.
[31:32] This summer, our CSEA chapter attended the historic 100th Annual CSEA Conference at the
[31:37] Paras Hotel in Las Vegas.
[31:43] Thanks to our growing membership, we were able to send an additional delegate this year,
[31:47] So a total of seven went.
[31:49] It was a week of hard work with some business
[31:52] and stretching past 1130 p.m.
[31:56] But it was equally rewarding.
[31:58] We networked with brothers and sisters
[32:00] across California, celebrated our Centennial
[32:03] at the Gallaudenir, and even got it to show off
[32:06] a few of our moves on the dance floor.
[32:09] We also had an incredible welcome back kick off this week.
[32:14] The energy was high.
[32:15] And it was great to get pumped up for the new school year alongside the employee of the year honorees.
[32:23] Next week is our first steering committee meeting for community schools.
[32:28] I am genuinely excited to see how we can expand services for local families who rely on these centers.
[32:36] My wish though this school year is to see even greater.
[32:43] He supported that, that's right.
[32:49] My wish this year is to see even greater engagement from our principles and management team.
[32:55] There are so many families in our schools who would benefit from these resources when we all
[33:00] work together.
[33:02] I also want to highlight a major win from Monday.
[33:05] I had a pleasure of attending the first route bidding process of the year in the transportation department and it was the smoothest running operation I have seen yet.
[33:18] Tina and Kia have created an environment that is truly cohesive to the goals of our district.
[33:24] As bus driver Nicole Lane said so well while I was there, let's leave everything behind and start fresh.
[33:31] Thank you, Tina, and Kia, for keeping the environment healthy and positive.
[33:43] This month marks almost exactly one year since I stepped into the role of CSCA chapter
[33:48] president.
[33:50] It has been both challenging and deeply fulfilling.
[33:53] Over this past year, our CSCA leadership team has worked diligently to address long-standing
[33:58] member concerns, managers have largely collaborated with us to resolve issues before they
[34:06] grievances, helping to ensure fair compensation for higher classification duties and healthier
[34:12] work environments. While we still have ongoing challenges to overcome with some district leadership,
[34:19] I am confident that we can resolve them with the least resistance possible and if we all
[34:35] stole. That's the prize you did my.
[34:41] I'd like to thank Chief stole. Doing a check-in
[34:44] meeting that he and I had also our first vice president, Stephanie Felix was there.
[34:54] He gave
[34:54] of fantastic idea to possibly take on the challenge coin for CSEA. And tonight I am proud
[35:06] to announce that CSEA now has its very own challenge recognition coin.
[35:14] So I would like
[35:15] to kick off this new tradition by presenting our first two challenge coins tonight. The
[35:21] First goes to Chas Chow, classified employee of the year.
[35:30] He's not here.
[35:31] He didn't know I was still in this.
[35:33] I'll give it to him tomorrow.
[35:37] Chas, you and body, unyielding service, humility, and dedication.
[35:42] Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
[35:45] And we are so proud of you.
[35:47] And our second coin, Mike Mayo and the VVTA leadership.
[35:56] Mike, you have been an invaluable labor resource collaborator and you are my friend.
[36:05] Anybody knows whenever we get together we cut up.
[36:09] All laughs.
[36:12] Yes, please.
[36:16] Thank you for being my labor cousin.
[36:19] And for everything you do that everything that you and your team does to support us.
[36:26] So this is our challenge corner.
[36:35] Thank you.
[36:36] Thank
[36:40] you.
[36:41] Thank you.
[36:42] The challenge corner.
[36:50] So in closing, I want to remind us all
[36:53] that underneath the titles that we hold or the money,
[36:59] we make, we are all equal.
[37:02] For leadership and management,
[37:04] Scripture reminds us and Colossians for to provide
[37:07] what is right and fair and in Ephesians 6
[37:10] to lead without threats.
[37:13] And for us as workers,
[37:14] Colossians 3 encourages us to work
[37:16] with all our hearts as working for the Lord,
[37:20] while Titus 2 calls us to patients,
[37:23] honesty, and trustworthiness.
[37:25] I look forward to serving our membership
[37:27] for another great year.
[37:29] Thank you.
[37:30] Thank you to my leadership team, Stephanie Felix, First Vice President, Selena A. Derr, Second Vice President, Selena Greg, Chief Union Stewart, Latanya Myers, Treasurer, Stephen Losano, Secretary, Jasmine Crawford, Sergeant at Arms, and Jocelyn and Carson, and I want to say in Carnation, in Carnation, as our site rep coordinator.
[37:56] I am honored, I am honored and blessed to serve alongside you all.
[38:02] Have a good night, everyone.
[38:08] Thank you, Danica.
[38:11] I have an under seven approval of minutes from previous board meeting.
[38:14] First up, is minutes of June 23, 2026.
[38:18] So most of the second, any discussion, all in favor?
[38:25] Aye.
[38:25] Any opposed?
[38:26] Any abstentions?
[38:29] minutes of the June 25th, 2026 meeting. Motion to approve. Second. Second, we'll give
[38:37] those that that one. Any discussion? All in favour?
[38:41] All in favour? All in favour?
[38:45] Some move. I don't number eight, consent agenda. Motion to approve
[38:49] item. 8.1.1. 2.8.3.5.
[38:55] Motion to the second. Any discussion? All in favour? Any
[39:00] We've posed, so moved.
[39:14] Item number nine, Mr. President, we're just real quick.
[39:16] I just want to point something out and just thank you.
[39:19] For what was just approved into the classified personnel report is tonight.
[39:24] We are fully staffed now with our police department.
[39:27] And in the audience today is our newest hire, Mr. Gregory Bachman, is our newest police
[39:33] officer.
[39:34] So welcome.
[39:40] I'm Mr. Smith.
[39:41] Gregory.
[39:41] Gregory Bachman.
[39:42] And so he'll be back next board meeting, and we'll do his swearing in, his ceremonial swearing in as we did tonight, but that's a nice he'll be officially sworn in, and he'll start immediately, and we provide all the support for about eight minutes, and then he's on his own.
[40:01] All right. So it's classic, but anyways, welcome.
[40:04] Yeah, welcome, Greg.
[40:12] All right.
[40:13] First up, 9.1 Business Services, I don't number 1.1, 9.1, 1.1, A.B. 1200 B.B. T.A. C.S.C.A.
[40:23] 202627. We discussed that earlier. Do I hear a motion to approve?
[40:28] So moved.
[40:29] Second.
[40:32] All in favor?
[40:35] Any opposed?
[40:37] So moved.
[40:39] Item number 9.2 Superintendent Mr. Cole, would you like to speak on this first?
[40:46] I do.
[40:48] And what ended up happening is that the governor changed the structure in which boards can be paid.
[40:56] And I know I've individually had conversations with you guys, and I absolutely know your humbled hearts.
[41:02] And the work that you do on behalf of this district.
[41:06] But what this allows is for school districts with our ADA, you know, 10,000 up to 15,000
[41:14] allows for the board to take a position in a vote, and I know it's always a very,
[41:19] very awkward place to be as important members where you have to vote for your own
[41:24] increases, but it allows for a maximum of $2,000 a month versus what you're currently
[41:29] getting, you know, which is a lot less than that, you know, roughly about $500.
[41:33] You know, I'll never forget when I first started in this district and I happened to be at Atlanteau and I thought I had about five minutes, you know, a
[41:42] Ken from an LA County district to get over to Lakeview. And what I discovered is I need a passport and I happened to have a Tesla and I had to stop to charge and there wasn't many places to even charge to get that far.
[41:56] And I know how much time and energy you all spend in the school sites that you visit and the conferences that you go to
[42:04] You know even more important than that. I would encourage the board to vote for the maximum of the $2,000 because I know how much time and dedication you spend
[42:12] How much money you put into your tanks of gas and even the time you spend with the staff here and it is still far beyond for those who've coached before and you get those stipends
[42:23] It never comes out to the amount of time.
[42:26] And I know that that is the thing with this board as well.
[42:29] And I know you also don't do it for the money.
[42:31] But I also want to encourage you for this purpose too.
[42:35] You know, all of us were in our roles.
[42:37] And we want to stay here for as long as we can.
[42:39] But the truth is, it's not a thing that's ever permanent in our entire lives.
[42:42] And so you're not only voting for yourself,
[42:44] but you're voting for future board members
[42:46] to knowing how much time and dedication that one day somebody else is going
[42:51] spend in these seats and to be able to do this. So you're looking at it even
[42:55] a much bigger picture. You're creating a legacy that says, hey, the
[42:58] commitment to be a board member and the time and energy you should also be
[43:02] at least somewhat fairly compensated. So I would encourage you to do this.
[43:05] And again, I want to urge this, I know your hearts. I know voting on things like
[43:10] this is extremely awkward for you, but unfortunately under law, you're the only
[43:15] ones you can vote on. It's because if I could do it myself, then it would be
[43:20] I want to, you know, at least open it up for discussion.
[43:22] And first of all, to say thank you.
[43:24] Thank you for the time that you spend out here.
[43:31] Thank you.
[43:32] And how you can unicate, and you know, people on that very,
[43:35] on the first name basis, and you're able to even bridge gaps
[43:39] between management and even CSEA and VVTA,
[43:42] and you're like, hey, I'm here in this.
[43:43] Maybe we need to work on this, and you're invaluable
[43:46] to that work, we're not always people or comfortable coming to one group and those who are
[43:53] comfortable coming to you, it really helps our district out. So whatever you guys vote
[43:56] on tonight, I would encourage you to vote yes for the $2,000, but I also want to just
[44:01] say thank you for the work that you do.
[44:03] Thanks, Carl, without a last-for-motion to approve, there's any discussion and just so that
[44:12] folks know we've been discussing this assembly bill 1390 since it was approved for the
[44:21] last two or three months and so we don't we don't we don't go around it lightly but we
[44:31] appreciate it and with that I'll ask for the vote all in favor and you oppose some of
[44:47] you.
[44:47] Thank you.
[44:50] Okay, 9.3 legal public people, personal issues, number one,
[44:57] Expulsion Case, number 2026.
[45:00] 1, 2, 1, 9, 8, 5, 9, 3, these were discussed during closed session.
[45:07] I'll ask for approval.
[45:09] So moved.
[45:10] There's second. All in favor?
[45:23] So moved.
[45:26] Stipulation stipulated exposed in case number 2026-218-760.
[45:32] Motion to approve.
[45:33] Second.
[45:35] All in favor? Aye.
[45:37] Any opposed?
[45:40] So moved.
[45:45] Estimulated expulsion, case number 2026-224709, motion to approve, so moved, all in favour?
[45:55] All right.
[45:56] Any opposed?
[45:59] So moved.
[46:02] Readmission, case number 2026-49718-4745-518, and case number 2025-2239-222.
[46:14] Motion to approve.
[46:15] So moved.
[46:20] All the favor?
[46:22] Any opposed?
[46:26] So moved.
[46:38] Okay.
[46:39] Item number five.
[46:40] Clean for damages.
[46:40] BSD 2605.
[46:43] We discuss these during closed session.
[46:46] Motion to approve.
[46:48] Second.
[46:51] Any second?
[46:55] Any discussion?
[46:57] All the favor?
[47:04] So moved.
[47:06] Clean for damages.
[47:07] It's BSD-20701, motion to approve.
[47:11] So moved.
[47:12] Second, all in favor?
[47:13] All right.
[47:15] Any opposed?
[47:20] One, eight.
[47:23] Motion is approved.
[47:26] I don't know every 10 informational items.
[47:28] Conference request.
[47:30] We've all received information on these.
[47:35] Any discussion on these?
[47:37] If not item number two, educational study, trip requests.
[47:41] Any discussion?
[47:45] We'll move on to item number 11.
[47:47] Staff reports.
[47:48] This is Services Division.
[47:51] Yes, thank you.
[47:53] First, I'd like to congratulate all of our new employees tonight.
[47:58] Congratulations, Mr. Robinson.
[48:00] Congratulations, Officer Bachman.
[48:02] Congratulations, Officer Mata, honor swearing in.
[48:05] And of course, to ask her the K9.
[48:09] I'd also like to thank all of my business services staff who have been working tirelessly through
[48:17] this summer.
[48:18] A lot of people have come back and they're very refreshed and welcome back to everyone,
[48:23] but a lot of us have been here all summer and not just business services, but I want to
[48:27] think all the staff who have been working very hard to prepare for this school year.
[48:32] We've had a great start to the school year so far and I'm really excited to see what's
[48:37] We've had a really busy couple of past weeks, great leadership retreat, district kickoff meeting,
[48:43] great first day of school, so I'm just looking forward to the rest of the year.
[48:48] On tonight's agenda, you guys also approved approved two items for our district office gym.
[48:55] You approved a new cable machine that will be delivered, hopefully soon,
[48:59] and you also approved the contract for our wellness coordinator, George Mangam,
[49:03] so that he can continue the work that he's been doing throughout the district,
[49:06] to law for classes in the gym, trained people on the equipment,
[49:11] and tomorrow for the district office complex staff, there will be a grand opening of the
[49:17] gym at 1130 after Mr. Cole's district office complex meeting,
[49:22] so whoever can join us, please do so. Thank you.
[49:24] And where is this?
[49:26] It's right across the way in the service management.
[49:39] All right.
[49:40] All right.
[49:43] Good evening, everyone.
[49:45] Welcome back.
[49:47] And as we enter into a new year, I want to provide a definition of continuous improvement.
[49:52] Continuous improvement is the ongoing systemic effort to enhance product services or processes
[49:57] through small incremental changes or major breakthroughs.
[50:01] And it is only through continuous improvement that we can say that we are progressing as an organization
[50:06] and that we are actually moving the needle for our students.
[50:10] So, in June, in our June board meeting June 23rd,
[50:15] I had shared that we had over 300 teachers and classified staff that signed up for the summer professional development.
[50:21] and out of those 300-plus teachers and class likes staff on the first day, we had 291 show up.
[50:30] That being the largest number of attendees that we've had in all the years that we've had summer PD.
[50:37] So I just want to thank VVTACSDA for everyone who actually came, and we also took a survey, and we had 122 respondees and out of 122
[50:51] We had an overall rating of 4.69 out of a rating scale of 5.
[50:57] That basically said that they felt that the sessions were practical, that they were applicable,
[51:04] and that the model lessons that were demonstrated by our own teachers and staff was well received,
[51:10] and they felt that this year's PD was the best that they have seen so far.
[51:15] So, I just wanted to just shout out that to everyone in here that was involved from even our CTE or special education student.
[51:23] Everyone was involved in it and I just want to thank our team, especially RC and I folks who took care of that.
[51:31] Yesterday also I was able to visit sites as it was the first day of school and I only got to six and I got to the two today and then one tomorrow.
[51:38] But I especially visited our ESNI program so these were the county take that programs and I'm going to tell you there is a different feel in those classrooms when you walk in when you truly know that these are your teachers
[51:52] These are your instructional assistants and these are absolutely our students
[51:57] So it gave me such joy and I want to thank and also shout out to our special education leaders Larry
[52:04] Thank you so much for the leadership that you provided in taking back our county program.
[52:10] It was absolutely needed and now we get to impact 145 more lives.
[52:17] So thank you on your team for that.
[52:19] And also I want to share a text that I received yesterday from a parent of a student in the program.
[52:26] The text reads,
[52:27] Hey, Dr. Ye, I just wanted to give you...
[52:30] Some positive feedback. My son is in the special education program at Lake View, and it's his first day and had a great day.
[52:37] And I know you guys are putting that program together to take all the county kids and for it to go as well as it did, you guys did an awesome job.
[52:46] I can't say enough just these are not our words, these are our parents of students that we are now serving and I'm so proud.
[52:55] So thank you everyone for that. Thank you for both VVT and CSCA because it was a lot of meetings.
[53:01] It was a lot of unknowns and it was a lot of just like we're going to figure it out along the way and they're still kings, but we'll figure it out.
[53:08] Also I want to congratulate Mr. Robinson. Congratulations for being the principal.
[53:16] You're going to do great and I also want to welcome our new SRO and Officer Mata and also a K9 Officer Astor.
[53:23] I remember when we saw that I was like,
[53:25] gee, do we typically do this, you know?
[53:28] And he's like, yeah, sometimes, you know,
[53:31] I'm not up, but we do.
[53:32] So I look forward to also swearing our new foster in,
[53:35] and I just want to wish everyone a wonderful year.
[53:37] So here's it.
[53:38] I mean, it's going to be a great year,
[53:40] and I look forward to getting even more results.
[53:43] So thank you, everyone.
[53:44] I exactly, he would resource his division, Mr. Willoughford.
[53:49] Thank you, Board President.
[53:50] I'd like to welcome everyone back from summer.
[53:52] I'd like to thank VVTA for their continued support with our new teacher orientation and providing lunch for them.
[53:58] It was a great event, welcoming through nine brand new teachers to our district.
[54:02] I also like to thank the Hispanic Williams for her continued work as you can present to ensure that her members are heard and the district has her members interested in their decisions.
[54:10] Big shout out to the HR team for all their work with the summer, with hiring, set up staffing, orientations, onboarding, and the list just goes on.
[54:18] I just can't thank them enough for making sure that we've gotten everything executed to start
[54:21] our first day of school.
[54:23] I want to congratulate all of our principals, staff, students, teachers, and support staff
[54:26] on successful start to the school year.
[54:29] I just hope everyone has a great Friday and enjoy their first weekend of the school year.
[54:37] Thank you.
[54:38] Board member comments, Mr. Barrios.
[54:43] I've got to remember the push the button.
[54:45] Okay, first, like to welcome everybody back and the first day of school, when great, I know
[54:51] I was at hook in the morning, helping out over there with a little munchkin, and I heard
[54:56] all the other sites, everything went smooth, you know, they got the kids in, into the
[55:00] class, they were right away without a hitch, that was super.
[55:04] And secondly, I'd like to, again, welcome to areas, okay?
[55:09] Yeah, and you were right about the family thing, you know, sometimes we're a little dysfunctional,
[55:13] but the rabbit family, the rabbit family is alive and well, okay, trust me, okay?
[55:20] And on Monday, Mr. Inohos and I were at Lorea helping feed their staff. So it was a pretty
[55:29] good deal. I'd like to thank Mr. Williams and Mr. Manley for putting the thing on and inviting
[55:36] us. And I talked about the new teacher workshop. I did attend that. And it was great to see
[55:44] all these new teachers, not just, I call them baby teachers,
[55:48] you have to excuse me, but not just the brand new newbies,
[55:52] but other people that came from other districts
[55:54] to work for us and with us.
[55:57] So that's encouraging, all right?
[56:00] And again, the kickoff, the kickoff was great.
[56:04] The speakers were wonderful, all right?
[56:07] You know, the young lady from Adalanto, okay?
[56:11] And from Silverado, and Mr. Cole's too, he did a great job, and it was, I'm using the same
[56:20] word over and over again.
[56:21] Michael, I have to give me a thosaurus to use different words, all right?
[56:24] But anyway, that was a great, a great kickoff.
[56:28] And lastly,
[56:31] welcome to another school year, and if people don't know it by now, Mr. Cole said
[56:38] this, I don't take credit for it.
[56:39] So we're in the big leagues now, all right?
[56:42] But now everybody knows defending a title is tough, but we can't just defend it,
[56:49] because there's still a lot more room for improvement.
[56:52] So the more we can do and like he said, and one of his presentations,
[56:56] if everybody just gets one student to improve, that'll bump us up 20%.
[57:02] Give it to me.
[57:03] So anyway, that's our target, all right?
[57:08] So anyway, that's all I have to say, and you guys all have a great school year.
[57:15] Thank you.
[57:16] I birthday, boy, Mr. Crosby.
[57:20] Thank you.
[57:22] Numbers, thanks first of all.
[57:24] Mike, thanks for having us fully staffed for,
[57:27] because this second year in the world that we've been staffed
[57:29] began to school year and been in the district now since 1980.
[57:36] That's very unusual and we appreciate it.
[57:38] Thank you, because it means so much to the students,
[57:40] because when you have somebody who's not gonna be there
[57:42] more than the first three, four days
[57:44] or made the first couple of weeks,
[57:46] and then getting the real estate,
[57:47] it just destroys the educational things.
[57:49] So thank you very much for that, appreciate that.
[57:51] Ramoni, thanks for the cake.
[57:52] I appreciate that.
[57:54] And also for all the educational improvements
[57:55] we've made over last couple of years.
[57:57] That's your department.
[57:58] We really appreciate that.
[58:00] Chante, as always, thanks for keeping our district
[58:04] financially stable.
[58:05] We appreciate that tremendously.
[58:08] Are you doing awesome job?
[58:10] Carl, thanks for creating such positive environment and district.
[58:14] And all of you, some of us that are old timers,
[58:19] you know, we remember this room used to be just filled.
[58:24] But it was with protesters.
[58:26] And so we're grateful.
[58:29] You mean we were the one protesting, but anyhow,
[58:33] But we appreciate the positive environment that this district now has and that comes from your leadership and from all the leadership's there.
[58:42] Mike mail.
[58:44] You're a great leader.
[58:47] And he was a wonderful student of mine.
[58:51] But you're better leader now.
[58:54] And I appreciate your leadership.
[58:57] But remember, I was an English teacher.
[58:59] And so he's a bad Ms. Math. I'm not 97 years old. Okay, so not quite.
[59:06] Not by one year.
[59:10] And Danica, thank you. I want you to know your leadership is appreciated and everything.
[59:15] And I want you to know yesterday and today, I want to every site.
[59:18] And the only ones I talked to, because I won't go into teacher's classroom in the first couple days,
[59:23] first week because that's they need to establish their classroom and when somebody from outside
[59:29] walks in I don't care if it's an administrator whoever it is that's disrupted so I always hated
[59:35] it as a teacher I won't do that now that I'm sitting up here but I want to class fight and just talk
[59:40] class fight and told the principals you know I told I think I told there is to get two cups of coffee
[59:46] for a couple of the ladies out front because they were just frazzled but I didn't really talk
[59:52] Minister, I just talk CSA and they shared things with me and I really appreciate it and it's all gone to the boss man over here
[59:58] but they're very
[1:00:00] Anyone there very open? They're very kind to me, and I really appreciate. So be sure to pass that on to them. I'd appreciate that. Other than that, to the board, welcome back. I'm excited about continuing work with you all. I think we've made some great progress, but we have a long way to go. And so while we've made great increases and stuff like that, we need to make more and our superintendents aware of that, we're all aware of it, and hopefully we're all aware of it.
[1:00:30] we can do that, so thank you all.
[1:00:33] Thank you.
[1:00:34] Is that Mr.son?
[1:00:36] Good evening.
[1:00:37] Thank you everyone that's here.
[1:00:38] I appreciate your participation.
[1:00:40] Each one of you play a major role in the lives of so many students.
[1:00:45] Whether it's a thrive program, whether it's teaching a gendered class, a special ed class,
[1:00:51] getting the kids to school, feeding them, Jason, making sure that they have what they need
[1:00:55] that their facilities are safe, Rebecca making sure that all of our programs are funded, Christine
[1:01:01] making sure everyone has a credentials they need. Thank you everyone that's here. I appreciate
[1:01:05] that because our students deserve the very best and they have it. We all learned that so much
[1:01:11] from our welcome back that we had this week. Everyone left with the charge of go get one more and I think
[1:01:17] everyone's fired up to do that. It's going to be a wonderful year. We have great leadership. We have
[1:01:23] great intentions for all of our students and staff and we are so lucky and so are our students.
[1:01:28] We are blessed.
[1:01:30] I wanted to share that it was so sweet to see Danica and Mike to associations that really
[1:01:36] work together.
[1:01:37] When you say that that's your cousin in labor, that's true.
[1:01:40] Your brothers and sisters, whether it's the blue shirt, the red shirt, we've got the green
[1:01:44] shirts over here.
[1:01:45] Two of them, we've got the pattern, polka dot, and the plaid, it's an amazing district
[1:01:50] to work in, to teach in, to learn in, we are so fortunate.
[1:01:56] Chief Stole is not here.
[1:01:57] Oh, there you are.
[1:01:58] Chief, thank you so much for all you've put on Instagram.
[1:02:01] It's a wonderful message to our communities to see what great things our students are doing.
[1:02:06] When I'm scrolling along, I just am so proud to see everyone working for the benefits of
[1:02:11] students.
[1:02:12] And if you saw the post from yesterday, the kids on their first day, every single school went
[1:02:17] way above and beyond to recognize the kids to make them feel welcome to give them a huge
[1:02:23] welcome back. So they're going to get one more, maybe two or three, so good job.
[1:02:30] The next couple of things are on a personal level. I want to share two people in this room.
[1:02:36] I want to give my endorsements to and my great wish of hard work and congratulations for Rosie
[1:02:43] for doing such a great job as the president of our board and continue on the board. Of course,
[1:02:49] can't as well, but also for Fran, you helped me to become a better board member. So I wish
[1:02:55] you a great luck in your run in hysteria.
[1:03:00] And as we are really the big leagues now, you can carry
[1:03:03] that over there. And so they will be fortunate. I'm very thankful. Also, Stephanie, I'd like to
[1:03:09] Stephanie Sister Heather Garcia will be honored tomorrow in the Victor Elementary School District as our teacher of the year.
[1:03:18] So a great honor.
[1:03:20] A wonderful family and Stephanie, I know that you and she are very close and I can't wait to see you get her that that you get to see her get that honor.
[1:03:29] So thank you all for being here and starting the new year whether it's working in any department but whatever you do it benefits all of our students.
[1:03:38] thank you very much.
[1:03:43] Mr. Lars first I know everybody said it and by the time you get to
[1:03:48] me it's like everybody said it like five times. Welcome back everyone. I mean I've been back
[1:03:54] since July 1 but welcome back. We love to have you here. I'd like to congratulate Mr. Robinson
[1:04:01] on becoming principal.
[1:04:05] It's a great opportunity. It's a great privilege and
[1:04:07] And if you look at it right, you'll enjoy the daylight
[1:04:11] out of it, you're really well.
[1:04:14] I'd like to welcome Officer Amada.
[1:04:16] I unfortunately, they're gone.
[1:04:18] And Esther, I felt bad for Esther,
[1:04:21] they offered him that little toy, to get him to pose.
[1:04:24] And then they wouldn't give it to him.
[1:04:26] That is, wow.
[1:04:28] I have a little note on the side here.
[1:04:30] I want to help with Kent's math.
[1:04:32] He's not 97, he's 98.
[1:04:37] We'd also like to welcome Gregory, Mr. Bachman, as our new police officer, and we look
[1:04:42] forward to seeing him next month.
[1:04:46] I want to extend a huge, huge thank you to both of the unions.
[1:04:55] Last time I sat on the board and you can ask Kent, because he was on the other side yelling
[1:04:58] at me.
[1:05:01] Last time I was in the board there was such an adversarial relationship. And I know Carl
[1:05:08] has done a lot and the admin has done a lot to get rid of that. But without you guys
[1:05:14] stepping up and helping and working, it wouldn't happen. It just wouldn't happen to see agreements
[1:05:22] on contracts to see people working together, I'm telling you,
[1:05:30] I don't know how to express
[1:05:31] my gratitude.
[1:05:32] You guys, you did it and it took you, it took you coming forward and doing this and I want
[1:05:40] to just personally thank you because I have been on the side that gets screamed at for an
[1:05:44] hour and a half and it turns out they were right, I find out years later, yeah, he's smiling
[1:05:52] because he was in yelling at me that he was right, but I want you to know how much I truly
[1:05:56] do appreciate you. I really really do because you guys had to take steps the hour away in
[1:06:03] order for us to go your way to. So thank you very very much. And I'd like to thank the admin team
[1:06:10] for taking the steps forward and offering me all the beliefs and making it work. The district
[1:06:16] kickoff was great. I enjoyed it. It went long, but I enjoyed it. The energy that I saw there,
[1:06:26] I had the ability to go to Lurea. The important one I had council was able to go to Lurea.
[1:06:31] What was that? Two nights ago? For last night. It was last night. And it was really fun to see
[1:06:37] the interaction between the teachers, the parents and the students. It was kids were excited to
[1:06:43] go back to school.
[1:06:45] The parents were even more excited to see them go back to school,
[1:06:48] but it was a great environment.
[1:06:50] They were having a good time and they were loving it.
[1:06:57] Something I've always believed, something that I've preached
[1:07:01] to all my life that I preached to my staff,
[1:07:04] that I preached to people that I know,
[1:07:08] is if you can reach out and improve one person's life,
[1:07:14] You have personally made the world a better place.
[1:07:17] I have said this since I was a teenager and I'm not as old as some,
[1:07:23] but I'm getting there.
[1:07:25] And I truly believe that if we can change one child's life.
[1:07:30] One child's life, we've made the world a better place, and everybody taking the district, taking on the challenge of just recovering one student is amazing to me.
[1:07:44] What you guys may not know and may not have caught in the news feeds is there was this really interesting little 19-year-old girl. She graduated high school early because of a teacher.
[1:07:57] She finished her bachelor's at 19, 19 years old.
[1:08:02] She is now credited with coming up with the first way to use no energy to propel
[1:08:08] vehicles through space.
[1:08:09] And we're talking, it's been very viewed by 12 universities.
[1:08:13] Although they can't build the vessel to do it,
[1:08:16] because we're not far enough in out of space yet.
[1:08:19] In theory, this little 19 year old girl,
[1:08:22] because one teacher believed in her.
[1:08:25] Finished her bachelor's degree and came up with an idea that could create interstellar travel.
[1:08:32] One kid, who knows, maybe that child who's going to cure all world cancer is going to come
[1:08:37] from this district, from a class.
[1:08:41] And it's all because somebody wants to save that one.
[1:08:44] And maybe that child that you saved.
[1:08:46] And by the way, I was that child that was saved.
[1:08:49] I'm not going to go into my history because some of you may call the police and say,
[1:08:52] as a statute of limitations expired, but there's always that one.
[1:08:58] And I appreciate you guys saving it.
[1:08:59] I can't tell you how much that means to me
[1:09:02] what it does for my heart to know we're doing that.
[1:09:04] I don't want to thank you for that.
[1:09:07] And I appreciate you all.
[1:09:08] Thank you.
[1:09:09] Thank you very much.
[1:09:13] Thank you.
[1:09:14] Danica, I'm going to follow your lead.
[1:09:15] See, I always have a list.
[1:09:18] I want to make sure I don't miss anything.
[1:09:20] Because like you said, as you get older, you kind of.
[1:09:23] But anyway, first of all, thank you all for being here tonight and sticking around, and especially
[1:09:28] those folks watching on YouTube. We know you're out there. I want to congratulate again at
[1:09:34] Officer Mata, I'm joining our team. We wish you're a long and very successful career with our
[1:09:40] district. Congratulations, Mr. Robinson.
[1:09:45] I hope that you're experienced in your background.
[1:09:48] We'll help you lead our team at Victor Valley High School to make it a great place for our students to learn as well as a great place for our staff to work.
[1:09:59] And next time I come to you at the office, I'd like to have a pair of those socks.
[1:10:09] Thanks to Jonas Cabrera Polo and the rest of the staff involved in the feedback pack, give away at Hook Junior High last Monday.
[1:10:16] It was a rising success.
[1:10:20] They had more requests for backpacks and unfortunately they had to turn some folks away
[1:10:25] but the promise next year it'll be even better.
[1:10:29] I had a great time at Larea on Monday morning helping Joe cook breakfast for his staff
[1:10:33] to welcome him back for the new school year.
[1:10:36] I had the easy stuff.
[1:10:37] I had the potatoes and eggs, poor Paul Conkel.
[1:10:44] He had the bacon and the sausage, and all I kept hearing from his side of the grill is
[1:10:50] Ouch, Ouch, because he kept burning his arms with the flying grease, poor guy.
[1:10:58] I want to thank Mr. Cole and his staff for putting on such a great kickoff on Tuesday.
[1:11:04] Congratulations to our three employees of the year, Heather Conkel, Jared Nichols, and
[1:11:10] as a child. Very well deserved recognition, I'm sure.
[1:11:17] Congratulations to police officer
[1:11:19] K9 Aster on being newly stored into our district police department by Chief of Police
[1:11:24] Chief Stow. Officer K9 Aster and his handler officer Kai Wood, they recently completed
[1:11:30] the California Post certification in our colleagues in Fireman's Detection, so they
[1:11:35] will keep our school site safe. We look forward to seeing them both of them out and around
[1:11:41] our school sites. I'm a member of our California Healthy Patrol Senior Volunteer Group, and I attended
[1:11:48] National Night Out this past Tuesday at Mojavevista Park. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised
[1:11:54] to see a very own district police department set up right next to our CHP spot. That was awesome.
[1:12:01] It was nice to see all of our officers, reserve officer, and explorers participate in this public
[1:12:08] event. But of course, K9 officer, Asher, was the main draw. Everywhere he and officer went,
[1:12:19] they drew a crowd both the Dalton kids. It was awesome to see.
[1:12:28] I'd like to recognize
[1:12:29] our street past staff members that we lost this past year. And Alie, our teachers, so we're
[1:12:35] our high school, Elba Mama Jr., our security guard at Silverado High School, and Ms. Nancy Noble,
[1:12:43] our teacher at Hook Jr. High School. Unfortunately, I didn't get an opportunity to get
[1:12:48] to know Anna or Elvin, but I'm grateful that I had the chance to get to know Ms. Noble at
[1:12:55] her service, a principal, certain I gave you a memorial card that one of Ms. Noble's
[1:13:00] co-workers that it made up for her. I'd like to share it with you because I think it truly
[1:13:05] describes who she was. I said the honor and memory of Nancy Noble, 25 years as an
[1:13:12] English word history teacher and department chair. This was not only a job, but
[1:13:18] her God-given gift. She dedicated herself to children and it showed in and out of
[1:13:24] the classroom. Thank you for your dedication, kindness, and the lasting
[1:13:30] impact you made on so many students and colleagues. Always in our hearts forever
[1:13:36] wrangler. What an awesome memorial card.
[1:13:44] I want to wish this building a good
[1:13:47] lack of an Arab coming surgery. I hope that's wishes for a speedy recovery. We
[1:13:52] don't want you gone too long. We'll miss you and a good luck. I hope you enjoyed
[1:13:58] your summer break. You had a great year. And then as we go forward, we continue to make this
[1:14:06] a great place to learn, as well as a great place to work. Thank you all again for attending
[1:14:11] today and safe travels home. Mr. Polls.
[1:14:19] I always have the great gifts of going last.
[1:14:22] So I did owe to everybody, but you know this has been at this for a minute, you know,
[1:14:28] and leadership and education, and this was by far the best opening of every scene in my entire career.
[1:14:38] You know, there's always that expectation you walk on a campus, and you're going to see kids out there,
[1:14:41] still trying to figure out schedules and trying to...
[1:14:44] I mean, I get to almost every single school site, and there wasn't a single kid.
[1:14:48] They already had their schedules, and so, you know, when I look back on what really kind of prompted that is a couple of things,
[1:14:55] but it's taking the registration back to the school sites
[1:14:58] and then just getting better and better at the registration.
[1:15:00] But I also just want to give a shout-out to our nurses, you know, being able to, you know, take the shots out to them, and say, we don't need a wait for this, you know, let's, let's get the permission slips, let's just get this, this kids going, you know, and if everything continues to play out, as it should, as it is, and we keep getting the word out there, this is a great place for our kids to come to, to school to learn. This is a great place to come to work. You know, we're going to see an increase of probably over 200 students this year in our
[1:15:30] enrollment. And I think we're just going to continue to see that grow. And so without a doubt,
[1:15:34] you know, when we know this, and we have to just keep getting the word out. If you come to this district,
[1:15:39] you're going to graduate. You're going to cross that stage. You're going to have the ability to go to college.
[1:15:43] If you so choose to. And you've got an entire team, you know, a 1500 employees that have every students back.
[1:15:49] And so this is absolutely heart felt. And I just, I feel so lucky and blessed to work in this district
[1:15:58] work along some of the finest educators and I can't even kid you not and I know all of us
[1:16:05] you know feel the same way and it's just fitting and it's blue and red just happens to be
[1:16:10] the shirt colors but just to see this model of the two unions saying look we worked together
[1:16:17] and we're all in this together and the benefit of this is to have kids in this thing and you just
[1:16:25] look at this and it's like, Matt, so many people can take a lesson from this moment in time and
[1:16:30] just authentically watch this play out. It really melts my heart because, you know, when
[1:16:36] we're all connected and stronger together, that the sky's the limit. And I think this is going
[1:16:42] to be a banner year for us as a district. And so, you know, won't go without challenges. Nothing
[1:16:47] ever does. But it certainly makes it more palatable and manageable to do it together. You know,
[1:16:54] with one common goal in place.
[1:16:56] So thank you, everybody in this district.
[1:16:58] So I look forward to this being another great banner year
[1:17:01] and another one for the books.
[1:17:03] So we're almost there.
[1:17:05] We only have 177 days to go.
[1:17:07] There you go.
[1:17:08] We're almost there.
[1:17:09] Thank you.
[1:17:10] Is there any reasons to return to closed session?
[1:17:13] Not with that interchained emotion to adjourn.
[1:17:15] So moved.
[1:17:16] Home and favorite.
[1:17:18] Any opposed?
[1:17:19] So moved.
[1:17:20] Thanks again for coming.
[1:17:21] Say travel to home.
